"I was trying to play a long innings and I suppose I was successful in that" : Fakhar Zaman

Fakhar Zaman speaking after end of first ODI

"Yes the winds were very strong and whilst we have been in NZ for the last 7-10 days and we prepared really well but unfortunately our top order was not in full touch today"

"Tim Southee and Trent Boult were bowling really well so they got our top order out for less runs"

"I was trying to play a long innings and I suppose I was successful in that"

"I have played in Karachi where it is windy where you hit with the wind but here, it was windy and cold and not like Karachi but we will adjust Inshallah"

"New Zealand have good fast-bowlers and a good spin attack too so you cannot relax against any of their bowlers"

"You have to play your natural game and you have to come hard against them at the start also"

"I hope we will do better in Nelson as we have played there before - it was a bit windy there but not as much as Wellington"

"NZ had a good start to their innings and Kane Williamson is a world-class player and he played to the end and its because of him, in my view, that they scored over 300"

The only player in the entire batting department who plays for the team and according to the situation.

I would like to hear views from some who think his batting is a 'fluke'

He was never out of form like people made him out to be, some people take T20 leagues too seriously.

Fakhar has something which is very rare in Pakistani crickets and that is match awareness. He plays according to the situation with calculated risk and he has shown it through his career.

If there is a man from Pakistan who can score a 200 in One Day cricket that man is Fakhar Zaman.

Saeed Anwar in the making.

The only player in the entire batting department who plays for the team and according to the situation.

Yes unlike a 40 year old who played odis not so long ago and used to tuk tuk his way as wickets fell.

Take a look at Fakhar's SR.This is how you play modern cricket
The scorecard in a similar situation was 120 for 6 after 30 overs chasing 300 plus against another strong opponent back in 2014.

Very good knock by him. He needs to keep this up as we don't have another player other than Faheem who can bat at the strike rate he is capable of.

Fakhar, Shadab and Faheem batted very well!! Good lower order, just the too order needs to click. Azhar looked good 2nd ball four!! I hope Azhar, Babar, Malik and Hafeez can click. Not too keen on Hafeez but when he clicks he xan olay a good game. Wickets and mire aggression and Sarfraz needs to bloody bat

He played exactly the way we wanted to see and according to the situation. He took his time and assessed the situation. Unfortunately he didn't have much support.

Thought New Zealand worked him out quite well, but he hung in there and didn't give his wicket away. He seems to look like someone who's always thinking at the crease.

But expect a slump at some point with criticism being fired out, looks to be the only positive in our batting with Babar with a promising lower order.

I would like this promising gentleman to cement his place firmly in the team and become the vice captain in future. Already Lahore Qalanders has announced him VC hope he learns alot from there. :)

I like him. Only batsman in the team who can think on his feet and quick to improvise to the situation. The other duds just play the same way regardless of opposition/conditions.
