Former Pakistan players commenting on TV on Umar Akmal's allegations of Mickey Arthur abusing him:

Ramiz Raja

"Arthur belongs to a Western Culture and they say things sometimes and our man takes it personally although we are Punjabis where we start with a galli"

Shoaib Akhtar

"You should know how I was treated - when no one would talk to me"

"When I once went to Australia on tour, we got out of the bus and the media wanted to talk to me; when I went to the dressing room some 4-5 team members wanted to beat me up saying why are you talking to the media"

"The way I would handle this would be to go to matches and put in match winning performances"

"With UA, he isnt winning games and then is complaining so no one will listen to him"

Mohammad Yousuf

"UA said that MA abused him in front of the Chief Selector so only Inzi can make a call on whether this happened or not"

"Coaches/Teachers sometimes use swear words but its upto people to take that as a positive thing and use to improve themselves"

Wasim Akram

"UA is such a good player but I wish that some elder would tell him to shut-up"

"For 2 weeks be quiet and don't say anything, if you wish to say something use your cricket bat"

"Don't know why they allow him on TV? His family or he should stop himself from doing that"

"If you have been sent back on fitness issues twice, do you expect the coach to sit you in his lap and sing you a lullaby?"

"The repercussions for this could be tough for UA as he may not be able to come back in the team and he is not realising that"

"Regardless of how talented he is, I don't think there is anything worse than to fail 2 fitness tests in today's day and age"

"Is this some movie or drama? Man the awam wants you to be fit and play"

"Ramiz and I only recommended MA because he is tough on discipline and has a system he follows"

"These things happen and to say that I am going to tell the 'awam' about this sounds like he has been watching too much TV"

"What can the PCB do? They will probably fine him but that will still not fix him. He will continue to damage himself"

"This is so embarrassing that Pakistan just won the CT; You [UA] came back just before the CT; You got picked and then dropped due to fitness; and now you [UA] are saying that about the winning coach; Has someone not told him that 'awam' don't want to know that all?"

the awkward moment when akhtar, yousuf and wasim are lecturing others on discipline :)))

Perhaps this is all because his elder brother is no less of a joke.

Wasim summed this whole situation up, if you wish to say something say it with your cricket bat.

:))) and yet akhtar tries to steal the limelight telling his own lame story

Hopefully someone does says these words to him.

I don't mean no ill will but I genuinely think there is something seriously wrong with Umar Akmal and he needs professional help from a psychiatrist

Why do you always chat rubbish about Akhtar, every opportunity you get 'lets berate Akhar' stop being sharamful man and don't take the morale high ground when others level the same narrow minded insults directed at your heroes

Too late for a psychiatrist now, should have sent him to one earlier.

LMAO. This is sooooo funny man. Surely this should mark the end to Umar Akmal's international cricket career.

I'll tell you why because he insulted his hero during the 2015 WC - you don't need to be a genius to guess who his hero is.

Hopefully someone does says these words to him.

Oh my, could you imagine Umar Akmal playing during Wasim and Waqar's era ?

If Junior is whining about abusive language, you should've heard the 2 Ws cursing every generation of a fielder's family after a drop catch :))

Exactly, in every situation, he finds a way for himself to insert his own experiences!

Like someone on PP once said "If he opens the fridge, the light came on, he would start yapping as if giving an interview" LOL...something never change

Yes, it doesn't take a genius to figure out whom I was referring to as one of his hero's, anyhow I appreciate both Akhtar and Misbah 's cricketing achievements. Am not a fan of brainless mud slinging for the sake of, we're in this thread to discuss Umar Akmal.

Wasim summed this whole situation up, if you wish to say something say it with your cricket bat.

Next time he will probably hit Arthur with the bat and then say it was Wasim bhai who told him to use the bat.

I am one, and I think he is Pakistan's most gifted batsman since Zaheer Abbas, but I'm not sure if he's too far gone to be helped.

Players like him and Shehzad are poisoned by their exposure to the likes of Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Akhtar and Chris Gayle. They should be saying "Shoaib, how come you took less Test wickets than Chris Martin?" or "Afridi, how come you scored less Test runs than Brad Haddin?"

But they don't. They are tempted by the fame of these under-achievers and they waste their potential the same way.

:)) Junaids would you consider helping Umar Akmal ? also, how would you approach your therapy sessions with him? as you're a cricket fan as well the dynamic is very interesting

How is he gifted according to you? Just cause he can play a few flashy shots before the inevitable end of his innings

Mind you shot placement, shot execution, patience and reading the game are equally important part of batsmanship which he lacks or does not even possess. So it's laughable for you to call him 'most gifted since Zaheer'

Batting isn't just about playing an aesthetic shot once in a while.

1. Develop a rapport: tell him how wonderful he was against Bond and Johnson.

2. Talk about how rough it was for him to be dropped when he averaged 36 in spite of 15 of his 16 Tests being outside Asia.

Hopefully at that point some trust is built - because he needs to listen to the next parts.

3. Discuss the special personality characteristics of some exceptional players who could be big-headed and self-absorbed and "misunderstood" - Viv Richards, Richard Hadlee, Cristiano Ronaldo.

If he has grasped that, proceed to.....

4. Players who have been chucked out for being difficult or different: Kevin Pietersen, Andrew Symonds, Umar Akmal!

That would take 4-5 sessions for someone who can speak his language.

The next sessions would be about administrators and coaches, and how lucky he is to have Mickey Arthur and not Andrew Strauss to deal with!

Finally, I'd explain the Power of Apology in British-based countries - how if someone bumps into us on the pavement, we apologise to them!

Pakistani cricketers who understand this will do so much better with a guy like Mickey from an Eastern Cape ethnically and culturally British background. Don't justify yourself, don't argue with him, just apologise and both move forward.

So in short, feed his ego even some more. No thank you !!

If Umar Akmal were fit, he could successfully troll Pakistan cricket for two decades like afridi based on once in a blue moor performances.
So for those hoping Akmal gets fit: be careful what you wish for.

For his own good, I think he should appologise otherwise he has made himself as unselectable as possible based on non crickting reasons this time.

It seems like he doesnt only lie to himself by thinking he is something great but with others as well.

I was there, Micky Arthur didn't abuse Umar Akmal, he was trying to convince him to work on fitness and perform at domestic; Mushtaq Ahmed

Afridi was an excellent utility cricketer specially after 2005. Gayle has 2 triple centuries in tests. Shoaib demolished India and Australia on dead tracks.

What has Umar achieved in comparison?

He once played an extremely beautiful cover drive....That should count, shouldn't it ??

the awkward moment when akhtar, yousuf and wasim are lecturing others on discipline :)))

Wasim might be indisciplined, but he was unparralleled in terms of fitness. Not only that, the talent that was produced in his era was one of the fittest of the side too...

Razzaq, Afridi, Imran Nazir, Mohammad Sami all put alot on the field as players... they gave their 100%.

Its unfortunate they could've done so much more with the talent they had, but all of them had some form of the 90s era in them... that winning mentality that Umar doesn't have, the one that makes you champion

Actually it would be quite a sight, and he would have some performance to show like Imran Nazir did, but unfortunately even that side relied heavily on the bowling..

So the memo would be to get a 200 and let the bowlers defend it easy..

I think Akmal could do some good if he had some greats playing in his side.. but to think his stats would be really different from the ones he has right now, I doubt it
