"I would encourage our younger players to build upon our success & take us to #1 in ODIs" : Inzamam

"Our selection committee team was watching matches everywhere to see which of our cricketers had talent"

"Tauseef, Wajahat, Waseem Haider all have a lot of experience and their job was to find players who could perform well for Pakistan in the future"

"We have done a lot of work on our domestic cricket on things such as pitches and stadiums"

"In the PSL players like Shadab, Fakhar and Hasan got to share the dressing rooms with top players"

"Imran Khan told me to work harder when my form was good as that would take me one level above what I was"

"Same way, I would advise our younger players to build upon our success and take us from the 6th to the 1st position in ODI rankings"

"Everyone has seen that Shadab Khan has immense talent"

"It is a sign of great players in the way our team did a comeback after defeat to India"

"Our spinners performance against Indian batsmen who are considered good players of spin is a great acheivement"

"My advice to Shadab is to continue working hard as this is just the beginning of his journey"

"There is no doubt that Shadab has a lot of power to spin the ball in his fingers"

"If I were a batsman, I would be very scared of the fact that Shadab's google spins very sharply so that the batsman has little time to react"

"We are looking for good all-rounders and proper off-spinners"

"Haris Sohail was unfit before but is ok now and we sent him to England recently and we have a lot of expectations from him"

"Umar Akmal is also a good batsman but there are issues with his fitness and we have called him to the camp"

"Our selection committee and coaches are working hard to make sure that NO talent is wasted"

"A Lot of credit goes to Azhar Mahmood also but we must remember that all coaches need time to show results"

"They dont have a magic wand that they can change our bowling in a short period of time"

"The advantage of having Azhar Mahmood is that he is aware of how modern day cricket is played as he had been playing county cricket until recently"

Good honest comments. He didn't try to steal the credit for the CT win, for which he sent Umar, Shehzad, Azhar & Wahab.

I wish he learns his lesson & unlike his predecessors don't bring lack of talent issue, next time to pick his oldie buddies.

This message is to younger batsmen like Azhar, Hafeez, Malik and Umar Akmal. All of whom have Inzi's asharwaad.

Two or three new faces need to be included, a couple of dynamic batsmen and dare I say it a young wicketkeeper batsman as Sarfraz's long term successor!

I would like to know more about this. What work have they done with the pitches in particular.

He may get stick for selecting azhar Ali but azhar Ali ended up being a very good selection

Check the scorecards of recent Pakistan Cup from where Fakhar and Farhan evolved.

Love the signature, well said; indeed my friend he is the best in the world :afridi thanks to inzi and the boyz and especially Allah we have won the Champions Trophy :inzi

Fakhar Zaman had a 55/90 List A stats for best part of half a decade now & I believe he is among very few players, averaging over 40 in both domestic tournaments for last 3/4 seasons - not to mention his strike rate.

If anything, I'll say, before this CT, he looked to have regressed from his best from couple of years back & that guy is a fantastic fielder, can bowl decent SLAO spin & an intelligent guy - not to mention a lefti at the top of the order. It took some stupidity from Sharjeel for Zaman to get in the squad, followed by a horror show against IND to get in playing XI .... and a brilliant start against SAF to keep his place safe from tried & tested openers. And, all those period PAK being bunnied by leggies & SLAO spinners for playing an XI, which had Mo Amir at 9 as only lefti, that too in last 1 year.

If this doesn't tell what Misbah/Azhar's regime did & what talent or combination Ul Haq is demystifying - probably, never will.

As a South African I would like to tell Inziv that being number one in ODI's means nothing.

In ODI's it's all about winning silverware

PCB do have work to do. Improving the domestic stucture is no easy feat and will take time. More young players should be look at I believe. Hasan Mohsin, Saud Shakeel, Sahibzada Farhan, Ghulaam Mudassar etc.

Hopefully he selects Sahibzada Farhan ASAP.

I think he needs a bit more time and maybe get selected after the next addition of PSL, but in all honestly I wouldn't mind him making a debut in the SL series if Sharjeel gets banned.

Yes, true but you don't want to be limping at the bottom of the rankings either. We should always aim to be in the top 5/6 at the bare minimum.

it means a lot to be number one and win silverware.

winning bilateral series and matches is important as well because that is what cricket mostly is.

We need to play a lot more Cricket to reach number one. That's not happening anytime soon.

I can see us breaking into the top 4 by 2019/2020 shaz619.

It is certainly possible, not far off at all; the important thing is we work with the current crop and give everyone a long rope especially the management staff who have played an instrumental role in our resurrection

A couple changes to this side/squad and we will be world beaters.

The CWC 2019 is ours for the taking. :pkflag

I actually don't need to look at scorecard because I saw the whole tournament, well most of it and I can safely say that the pitches weren't exactly what you might gauge from the scorecards.

The standard of bowling was atrocious to put it sedately in the tournament. You had guys like Anwar Ali bowling with new ball with a cross seam and guys like Azizullah opening the bowling. That should give you an indication as to what the quality of bowling was.

Also, the pitches weren't that true to be very honest.Yes,the ball was not turning that much and ball wasn't swinging around but the pitches were still dull and low.And that is where Pakistani batsmen are at their best.

So,nothing to take away from batsmen but still think the pitches are way below par in domestic cricket.

Pakistan aim to become number one ODI side: Inzamam

Pakistan cricket chief selector, Inzamam ul Haq has said that after winning the ICC Champions Trophy, the team next goal is to become the top ranked One Day side.

Pakistan, which start-off its Champions Trophy campaign ranked at eight slot, finished of the tournament jumping two places to sit at number six at ICC’s latest rankings.

However, the chief selector wanted the green shirts to aim for the number one spot at ICC rankings.

“The boys need to work harder, as we need to achieve other objectives. We are currently placed at sixth spot, INSHALLAH we will bring Pakistan team to the number one spot,” said Inzamam, while speaking to local media.

Inzamam said that Pakistan Super League (PSL) played a major in grooming of youngsters including Shadab Khan, Fakhar Zaman and Hasan Ali.

The youngsters were crucial in Pakistan wining the Champions Trophy, after beating archrivals India in the finale.

If this team plays in the 2019 WC we would be one of the contenders:

1. Sharjeel
2. Fakhar
3. Babar
4. Haris
5. Sarfaraz
6. Talat/Yamin
7. Imad/Hasan Khan/ Fahim
8. Shadab
9. Hasan
10. Amir
11. Junaid

We dont need no.1 rank .. we hv achieved what we needed ... beating india in a CT final voooooooooow... ideally winning a world cup final vs india could be the only better thing. Great job inzi .. selecting azhar clearly shows that batters with sound technique are way better than sloggers

Ruman or one of the young pacers could replace Junaid. Also not sure on Harris fitness so maybe another batsmen maybe in there.

But I'll back this team to get to the semis at least.

Inzy has given another Toronto-style beatdown to his Canadian critics :))

Who selected Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Fahim Ashraf, Rumman Raees, introduced Sharjeel Khan in Tests, introduced Hasan Ali in all formats, Mohammad Abbas (whose selection you were calling for) and selected Usman Salahuddin ? Sahibzada Farhan and Hussain Talat have now been called up to NCA camp and there's many more youngsters on his radar.

Infact I don't think I've seen ANY other Chief Selector in my lifetime give as many chances to youngsters and do JUSTICE to domestic performers.

Yes he's made some mistakes like selecting Umar Gul, persisting with Umar Akmal, recalling Kamran Akmal, Shan Masood and Ahmed Shehzad - but now those guys have flopped and will be axed. Name me one Chief Selector with a totally flawless record.

Anyway I'm glad to have backed the Mickey-Sarfraz-Inzy think tank to the hilt. This is the best team management we've had in YEARS and a major upgrade on Waqar-Azhar/Afridi-Haroon.

Came back for that signature, wasn't disappointed. All hail Inzamam, the best Chief Selector that Pakistan has ever had. Long may he reign (and then get a coaching gig).

Inzamam picked a near perfect squad and naturally, Pakistan did really, really well. His critics should be ashamed of their words but no matter, Inzi doesn't hold grudges.

We needed another opener.

Rumman should have been there instead of Wahab at first place, Umar Akmal also never deserved to be in the squad.

3 debutants, 18 years old Shadab, Hasan Ali and Amir saved faces of Azhar, Malik, Hafeez and co.

You clearly did not watch the CT apart from the first game. If you did, you would have known that Hafeez and Azhar were crucial to us lifting the trophy. Malik had to be be there due to prior form.

Tired of explaining things to people like you, who first bash the team constantly and then start making excuses for why the team did so well. No matter, the performance of the Pakistani Champions speaks for themselves.

Okay, Fine. Let's see Inzi's performance as selector in coming period.

What happened to Mr. Phaasht Wahab Riaz?

He was there to lull the Indians into a false sense of security on June 4th. :wahab2

After that 5-fer in 2011, Kohli and company have given Mr. Phasht a phainty almost every time the two teams have met.

He went for something like 50 in 4 overs in the 2012 Asia Cup (ODI).
