Reasons:
The top 8 teams play their first knockout game against the bottom 8:
- It’s not the #1 trophy in ODI cricket anyway, so there’s no need to take the format of an event that ranks #2 in ODI prestige too seriously.
- Inclusiveness is important. Teams like West Indies and Sri Lanka are absent from the event, despite many considering them a bigger threat in tournaments than Bangladesh.
- Every match being a knockout makes this a unique and exciting event. Anyone can eliminate anyone. More unpredictability. The last time we had this format, the Kiwis won it, which was GREAT for cricket.
