Top 10 Test movements headline latest rankings changes

Australia's Sydney meeting with Pakistan and the bowling blitz at Cape Town has led to a number of movements in the MRF Tyres ICC Men's Player Rankings.

As wickets tumbled at Newlands, a number of India and South Africa fast bowlers enjoyed rankings climbs, most notably Jasprit Bumrah who overtook compatriot Ravindra Jadeja to move to fourth (787). Mohammed Siraj's 6/15 and 1/31 led to a 13-place jump to a career-high 17th (661), while Lungi Ngidi (up nine spots to 28th) profited from his three-wicket effort in the first innings.

Despite a four-wicket Test match, Kagiso Rabada was overtaken by the barnstorming Pat Cummins to go to second on the rankings list (858). Australia's captain capped off a Player of the Series performance in the third Pakistan Test, taking six wickets across just 25 overs.

Cummins' compatriot Josh Hazlewood made a move of his own, taking five wickets (including four in the second innings) to move from 11th to a tie for seventh (761) with James Anderson. The shift bumped Nathan Lyon to 11th (742), nine points clear of Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi, who sat out the match.

While runs came at a premium across the two Test matches, a number of batters stood up in tricky conditions, and were rewarded with rankings jumps.

Scores of 60 and 62* for Marnus Labuschagne helped the right-hander to a three-spot jump to fourth (802), though sits well behind teammate Steve Smith (818) in the spot above. Mohammad Rizwan's knocks of 88 and 28 meanwhile meant a 10-spot jump to 17th on the other side.

Aiden Markram was imperious at Newlands, striking a second innings century in a team bowled out for just 176. His 106 led to a nine-spot jump to enter the top 20 (667), as the only Protea to make a move of note. On the other side, Virat Kohli (775) and Rohit Sharma (748) moved to sixth and 10th respectively after solid outings.

Sri Lanka's two ODI matches at home against Zimbabwe meanwhile saw a number of movers, most notably on the bowling side through spinner Maheesh Theekshana, who moved to a career high rating (634) and rank (11th) with four wickets across the matches.

Only Richard Ngarava (seven) took more wickets in the week, leading to a 23-spot jump to a career high rating of his own (634). New Zealand's Trent Boult (643) is the next man in Ngarava's sights to overtake.

The most noteworthy move on the batting side came through Sri Lanka's Charith Asalanka, moving into the top 20 with 101 runs across his two innings. Craig Ervine meanwhile moved a dozen places with his 82 in the second meeting.

On the T20 front, the last of UAE's three-match series with Afghanistan saw a number of minor shuffles.

Naveen-ul-Haq's 4/20 helped him move nine spots into the top 50, while UAE's Ali Naseer entered the top 50 for all-rounders, up five spots to 46.

Nice to see Rizwan moving up the order in Test rankings.

He broke the myth that he can't be a good Test player.

Theekshana makes top ten ODI bowling move as T20Is lead to host of changes

While Wanindu Hasaranga's seven-wicket haul led to a 28-place jump, it was compatriot Maheesh Theekshana to make a noteworthy move to equal-eighth on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Bowling Rankings.

Theekshana joined Afghan Mohammad Nabi with a rating of 648 after the latest update on Wednesday, after taking 1/15 (5) in a strong eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe at the R.Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Having missed the Cricket World Cup through injury, Hasaranga began his climb back up the rankings with 7/19 (5.5), moving the world class leg-spinner into the top 40. The leg-spinner also made a 15-spot jump on the ODI all-rounder rankings, moving 15 spots to 17th (187), the highest Sri Lankan in the list.

Most of the changes in the international game came via the T20 rankings through a host of bilateral series as teams begin their T20 World Cup 2024 preparations.

The biggest in terms of top ten moves came through matches between India and Afghanistan, with Axar Patel climbing to fifth spot after a mammoth 12-spot leap (667), edging Ravi Bishnoi (666) as the highest-ranked bowler from India on the list. A pair of two-wicket hauls helped the left-armer make the move, with the aformentioned pair of Hasaranga and Theekshana next in his sights in the shortest format.

Elsewhere in the bowling ranks across the world, New Zealand's Tim Southee (up eight spots to 18th) and Adam Milne (up 19 spots to 47th) were big movers in their first two matches against Pakistan, as well as newcomer Ben Sears, who climbed 47 spots into the top 100.

On the batting side, Yashasvi Jaiswal's quickfire 68 from just 34 balls meant he made a top ten climb of his own, up seven spots to sixth (739). Only top spot holder Suryakumar Yadav (869) stands above him in terms of India players, with Ruturaj Gaikwad (661) also in the top ten, sitting in ninth. Getting his opportunity in India colours, Shivam Dube has rocketed up to 58th (472).

While Finn Allen's record hundred on Wednesday won't count in his ranking numbers until next week, his knocks of 34 and 74 have led to an 11-spot jump to 16th (614). Fakhar Zaman's 14-spot jump to 81st was the other move of note from action in New Zealand.

MEN'S TEST BATTING RANKINGS

Australia left-hander Travis Head has been rewarded for his good recent form by making a big jump up the latest MRF Tyres ICC Men's Test Batting Rankings that helps him close in on top spot.

Head scored his seventh Test century when compiling a classy 119 against the West Indies in the ICC World Test Championship clash in Adelaide last week and was duly rewarded for his Player of the Match heroics on the updated rankings for Test batters.

The 30-year-old jumps seven places from outside the top 10 and into equal fifth place courtesy of the knock, with Kiwi veteran Kane Williamson (first), former England captain Joe Root (second) and Australian teammates Steve Smith (third) and Marnus Labuschagne (fourth) the only players ahead of him.

Head was Player of the Match during Australia's victory over India in the World Test Championship final last year and produced similar efforts when registering match-winning performances for his country in both knockout contests of the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup towards the end of last year.

MEN'S TEST BOWLING RANKINGS

The attacking lefty isn't the only Australian on the rise, with teammates Josh Hazlewood (up three places to fourth) and spinner Nathan Lyon (up one spot to 10th) improving up the latest rankings for Test bowlers following strong performances against the West Indies as the reigning World Test Championship winners continue to dominate the Test rankings.

Four Australia players sit inside the top 10 rankings for Test batters (Smith - third, Labuschagne - fourth, Head - equal fifth and Usman Khawaja - ninth), while skipper Pat Cummins (second), Hazlewood and Lyon are all similarly placed for bowlers.

JOSEPH, HARTLEY GAIN IN ICC TEST RANKINGS AFTER INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCES

West Indies fast bowler Shamar Joseph and England spinner Tom Hartley hog the limelight in the latest update to the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings, reaping the benefits of their outstanding performances over the past week.

Joseph, whose sensational seven-wicket haul in the second innings helped the West Indies score a thrilling eight-run victory over Australia in Brisbane to draw the two-match ICC World Test Championship series 1-1, finds himself in joint-50th position after moving up 42 places.

The 24-year-old’s tally of 397 rating points is the fifth-best by a West Indies bowler after two Tests, with some past greats ahead of him in that list. Fast bowler Colin Croft (447), left-arm spinner Alf Valentine (443), fast bowler Wes Hall (422) and off-spinner Sonny Ramadhin (407) had more points after their first two Tests.

Hartley too had a remarkable seven-wicket haul in the second innings of the opening Test against India and finished with nine wickets in the match, helping pull off a 28-run win in Hyderabad. The 24-year-old left-arm spinner is in 63rd position with 332 rating points, the best by any England bowler after his debut Test since left-arm seam bowler John Lever achieved 393 points with a 10-wicket match haul against India in Delhi in December 1976.

Former captain Joe Root’s spin bowling has lifted eight places to 54th among bowlers after he finished with five wickets in the match, including an important four-wicket haul in the first innings.

Player of the Match Ollie Pope’s second innings knock of 196 has lifted him 20 positions to a career-best 15th position while his team-mate Ben Duckett has progressed five places to 22nd position after useful scores of 35 and 47 at the top of the order.

Indian batters KL Rahul (up three places to 51st) and Yashaswi Jaiswal (up three places to 66th) have moved up the rankings after scores of 86 and 80, respectively, in the first innings while Jasprit Bumrah has advanced one place to fourth after finishing with six wickets in the match. All-rounder Axar Patel has progressed in both lists – from 51st to 50th in batting and from 33rd to 31st in bowling.

Joseph was the top gainer for the West Indies after the Brisbane Test but his fellow fast bowlers Kemar Roach (up two places to 17th) and Alzarri Joseph (up four places to 33rd) have also made headway after finishing with three and six wickets, respectively, in the match.

Joshua de Silva (up 12 places to 60th), Kirk McKenzie (up nine places to 76th) and Kavem Hodge (up 98 places to 81st) have moved up the batting rankings after some useful knocks.

Jasprit Bumrah has become the first India pacer to top the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after an outstanding performance in the second match of their ICC World Test Championship series against England in Visakhapatnam.

The 30-year-old’s nine-wicket match haul has helped him leapfrog Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada and Ravichandran Ashwin, making him only the fourth from his country to attain number one position after spinners Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Bishan Singh Bedi.

Bumrah, who was named Player of the Match after helping India level the five-match series with a 106-run victory, ended Ashwin’s 11-month long reign. Bumrah now has a tally of 881 rating points with Ashwin (904) and Jadeja (899) the only India bowlers to have aggregated more rating points. Ashwin and Jadeja also have the unique distinction of being jointly top ranked, in March 2017.

Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav has moved up four places to 45th position. The batting rankings see left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal progress 37 places to 29th after completing a fine double-century in the first innings and Shubman Gill go up 14 places to a career-best 38th after notching a century in the second innings.

England opener Zak Crawley is another player to gain after the Visakhapatnam Test, moving up eight places to a career-best 22nd position after scores of 76 and 73.

Rookie leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed has moved up 14 places to 70th while Tom Hartley, who became just the second England player with at least 50 runs and five wickets in each of his first two Tests, has advanced in both lists - up from 103rd to 95th in the batting rankings and from 63rd to 53rd in the bowling rankings.

In the latest weekly update that also considers performances in the one-off Test between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan in Colombo, left-arm spinner Prabhath Jayasuriya has moved up to three places to a career-best sixth position after his eight-wicket match haul helped the home side win by 10 wickets.

Asitha Fernando (up seven places to 34th) and Vishwa Fernando (up nine places to 51st) are other Sri Lanka bowlers to move up while Angelo Mathews (up four places to 24th) has advanced in the batting rankings after top-scoring in the match with 141.

From the Afghanistan team, Ibrahim Zadran has moved up 17 places to 54th after a fighting 114 in the second innings while Rahmat Shah (up 16 places to 66th) and Noor Ali Zadran (entered the rankings in 92nd position) are some other notable movements.

In the Men’s ODI Rankings, Australia leg-spinner Adam Zampa is up one place to third and fast bowler Sean Abbott’s six wickets in the three-match series against the West Indies this past week have lifted him 35 places to joint-33rd position.

West Indies’ left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has improved his ranking from 61st to 54th after finishing with four wickets in the series.

Bumrah is undoubtedly a very talented player but in my opinion he doesn't deserve the number 1 test ranking. He played only a few test matches this year so dont know on what basis he was awarded the number 1 ranking.

28 wickets in four matches in this year ..He played only one test match last year ..

The way Williamson has prolonged his reign in Test rankings is simply remarkable and he richly deserved that too.

They take the last 3-4 years for ranking.

Last 3 years - 70 plus wickets at 18 a piece will propel anyone to rank 1.

Shakib's long reign over as Afghanistan star claims top ODI ranking

A new player crowned at the top of the ODI all-rounder rankings following a superb century against Sri Lanka.

Shakib Al Hasan's reign at the top is over after Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi claimed the No.1 spot on the latest ICC Men's ODI All-Rounder Rankings.

Shakib held the premier position in 50-over cricket for 1739 days – from 7 May 2019 (when he took over from Rashid Khan) until 9 February 2024 -- the longest unbroken stretch anyone has had on top of the ODI all-rounder rankings. But an ongoing injury concern coupled with some good recent form from Nabi has seen a change at the top.

Nabi reaches the No.1 spot on the back of his splendid innings of 136 during the opening match of Afghanistan's three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, while the 39-year-old also picked up a wicket in the same contest to gain one place and move to seventh on the latest rankings for ODI bowlers.

Nabi at 39 years 1 month has become the oldest player to top the ICC ODI All-rounder table, breaking the record held by Tillakaratne Dilshan, who was 38 years 8 months when he was top in June 2015.

South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj maintains his lead at the top of that list, while Sri Lanka duo Wanindu Hasaranga (up 14 spots to equal 26th) and Dilshan Madushanka (up four places to 33rd) join Nabi in making some ground on the latest set of rankings.

Babar Azam is well clear in the ODI rankings for batters, with a trio of Sri Lankan players making some ground on the former Pakistan skipper following an impressive start to their series with Afghanistan.

Charith Asalanka jumps five places to 15th overall following his unbeaten 97 in the second match of the series, Pathum Nissanka improves 10 spots to 18th after his double century in the series opener, while Sadeera Samarawickrama climbs six rungs to 41st due to a stylish half-century.

There is little to no change at the top of the Test rankings, with Kane Williamson increasing his lead at the top of the list for batters after a pair of centuries in the first Test against South Africa and India quick Jasprit Bumrah still at the head of proceedings for bowlers.

Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson did make some ground on Bumrah following six wickets for the match in that Mount Maunganui contest with the Proteas, with the right-armer jumping six places to eighth overall in an impressive performance.

Jamieson also moves up two places to 13th on the list for Test all-rounders after a contribution of 8* with the bat against South Africa, with India's Ravindra Jadeja still leading the way comprehensively in that category.

A host of stars from Australia and the West Indies also made ground on the latest set of T20I rankings following the completion of their series Down Under.

Australia clinched a 2-1 series triumph, with Glenn Maxwell (up 11 spots to 24th), Tim David (up 35 places to 27th) and David Warner (up 19 spots to 36th) all rising the batting rankings following solid contributions during the three matches and West Indies counterparts Rovman Powell (up four rungs to 25th) and Johnson Charles (up 12 spots to equal 38th) doing similar.

Adam Zampa is the big mover up the T20I bowling charts as the spinner jumps five places to equal 11th behind England's Adil Rashid, while Australia teammate Marcus Stoinis climbs three spots to second on the list for T20I all-rounders and closes in on Shakib following his efforts against the West Indies.

India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal continues his ascent in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings after scoring an unbeaten 214 in the third Test of their five-match ICC Men’s Test Championship series against England in Rajkot.

The 22-year-old left-hander joined a select band of seven cricketers to score double centuries in two consecutive Tests including two Indians – Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli – and has progressed 14 places to 15th position after contributing in India’s 434-run victory that took them 2-1 up in the series.

Player of the Match Ravindra Jadeja’s knock of 112 in the first innings has taken him from 41st to 34th position among batters and his seven-wicket match haul has lifted him three places to sixth position in the bowling rankings. Jadeja has also consolidated his position at the top of the all-rounders’ rankings, going from 416 to a career-best 469 rating points.

Captain Rohit Sharma has moved up one spot to 12th position after also notching a century in the first innings while Shubman Gill has progressed three places to 35th after coming close to a century in the second innings. Debutants Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel have entered the rankings in 75th and 100th positions, respectively.

Ravichandran Ashwin picked a wicket in each innings despite missing part of the match to deal with a family emergency, managing to edge past Kagiso Rabada and make it an Indian 1-2 in bowling with Jasprit Bumrah at the top.

England opener Ben Duckett’s quickfire 153 in the first innings has lifted him 12 places to 13th while fast bowler Mark Wood has moved up to 21st position in other notable movements from the match.

Meanwhile, Kane Wiliamson has strengthened his position at the top of the batting rankings after notching a century against South Africa, his seventh in seven Tests, joining Aravinda de Silva, Mohammad Yousuf and Clyde Walcott as the only players to have achieved the unique feat.

Fast bowler William O’Rourke became the first New Zealander to take nine wickets on Test debut, entering the rankings in 61st position after a seven-wicket victory over South Africa that helped his team complete a 2-0 series win. For South Africa, David Bedingham has moved up to 50th position.

In the Men’s ODI Rankings, Sri Lanka opener Pathum Nissanka’s match-winning 118 in the final match of the ODI series against Afghanistan has helped him move up from 18th to 11th while Afghanistan batter Azmatullah Omarzai has improved his ranking to 48th.

There were also some notable movements after the first three matches of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 being played in Kirtipur, with Aasif Sheikh of Nepal (up five places to 77th) and Bas de Leede of the Netherlands (up 13 places to 96th) moving up in the batting rankings. Bernard Sholtz of Namibia (up two places to 17th), Lalit Rajbanshi (up 25 places to 54th) and Sompal Kami of Nepal (up 18 places to 76th) have progressed in the bowling rankings.

The Men’s T20I Rankings see Sri Lanka spinner Wanindu Hasaranga grab the second position in both the bowling and all-rounders’ list after Sri Lanka won the first two T20Is against Afghanistan. Ibrahim Zadran is up eight places to 21st in the batting rankings and Fazalhaq Farooqi up five places to eighth in the bowling rankings.

India youngsters receive rankings boost following epic Ranchi triumph

A trio of India younger players reach new career-best rating following excellent performances with the bat during the fourth Test against England.

A host of India's match-winners from the fourth Test against England in Ranchi have been rewarded by reaching new career-high ratings on the latest ICC Men's Player Rankings.

Youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Dhruv Jurel all scored a half-century during the series-clinching five-wicket triumph and the trio all reached new career-best marks on the updated rankings for Test batters.

While New Zealand veteran Kane Williamson maintains a healthy lead as the No.1 ranked batter in the world and England's Joe Root rises to third courtesy of his 31st Test century in Ranchi, Jaiswal (up three places to 12th), Gill (up four spots to 31st) and Jurel (up 31 rungs to 69th) all reach new best ratings following their contributions in the fourth Test.

England opener Zak Crawley can also lay claim to reaching a new career-best rating after he rose 10 spots to 17 on the list for Test batters following scores of 42 and 60 against India while teammate Root had a second reason to celebrate after he also made ground on the rankings for Test all-rounders.

Root picked up the key wicket of Jaiswal during India's thrilling run chase and jumped three places to fourth on the list of Test all-rounders as a result, with Ravindra Jadeja still holding a comfortable lead in that category.

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah stays on top of the Test bowler rankings despite being rested for the fourth Test, with teammate Kuldeep Yadav jumping 10 spots to equal 32nd and a new career-high ranking following his four-wicket haul in the second innings against England.

There was also slight movement on the latest T20I rankings this week, following Australia's 3-0 series whitewash of New Zealand away from home.

Skipper Mitch Marsh rose two places to 15th on the list for T20I batters and 21 spots to 13 for T20I all-rounders following his Player of the Series heroics, while teammates Travis Head (up 18 rungs to 19th) and Tim David (up six spots to 22nd) made good ground in the batting category.

Australia seamer Josh Hazlewood re-entered the top 10 in equal seventh on the list for T20I bowlers following his six-place jump, while Kiwi quick Lockie Ferguson rose 20 spots to 29th on the same category after his five wickets for the series.

There wasn't much movement on the latest ODI rankings, although Namibia duo Bernard Scholtz and Gerhard Erasmus made some ground courtesy of their efforts at the start of the new ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 cycle.

Scholtz rose six places to 11th on the list for ODI bowlers following his six scalps from four games last week, while skipper Erasmus improved eight spots to equal sixth for ODI all-rounders following his 12 wickets from the same matches.

Scholtz is now sitting in the highest position and points tally ever achieved by a Namibia player in ODI cricket.

Bumrah within sight as Australia bowlers rise in Test rankings

Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon made ground on the India pacer after they shared 14 wickets between them in the opening Test against New Zealand.

A pair of experienced Australian bowlers have been rewarded for their efforts against New Zealand by making rapid gains in the latest ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

While India pace spearhead Jaspit Bumrah leads the way on the list for Test bowlers, both pacer Josh Hazlewood (up one place to fourth) and spinner Nathan Lyon (up two spots to sixth) have closed the gap following superb performances during the opening Test of their trans-Tasman showdown against the Kiwis in Wellington.

Hazlewood collected a pair of New Zealand wickets in each innings of the emphatic 172-run victory, while Lyon helped himself to 10 scalps in total as Australia dominated the eagerly-awaited contest at Basin Reserve.

It leaves Australia with four players inside the top 12 of the current rankings for Test bowlers, with skipper Pat Cummins (fifth) and left-armer Mitchell Starc (12th) making up the highly-rated quartet.

Matt Henry and Glenn Phillips each collected a five-wicket haul during that first Test against Australia, with the former moving up seven places to 18th on the list for Test bowlers and the latter improving 19 spots to 48th.

It's a similar story on the latest rankings for Test batters, with Australia star Cameron Green continuing his emergence as one of best all-rounders in the world as he reached a new career-high rating following his Player of the Match heroics against New Zealand.

Green hit an unbeaten 174* in the first innings and a decent knock of 34 in the second to help guide the Aussies to victory and jumped up a total of 22 place to reach 23rd on the updated Test batter rankings.

Kane Williamson remains well out in front on the Test batter rankings despite scores of just zero and nine in Wellington, while Australia veteran Steve Smith sees his rating drop below 800 points for the first time since 2014 and loses one spot to third on the same list after knocks of 31 and zero against the Kiwis.

Phillips (up 18 spots to 52nd) and fellow Kiwi Rachin Ravindra (up five places to 76th) made some ground on the rankings for Test batters, while Phillips (up 12 places to equal 11th) also made some movement on the list for Test all-rounders.

There was also some joy for a trio of Ireland players following their historic victory over Afghanistan in the one-off Test in Abu Dhabi, with Lorcan Tucker (up 15 spots to 56th) and Andy Balbirnie (up 12 places to 87th) progressing up the Test rankings for batters and pacer Mark Adair (up 30 spots to 69th) doing the same on the list for bowlers.

It was a relatively quiet week on the rankings for the white-ball formats, although a pair of Sri Lanka stars made some ground on the list for T20I batters and showed some good signs ahead of June's ICC Men's T20 World Cup with strong showings in the opening game of their series against Bangladesh.

Hard-hitting right-hander Kusal Mendis rose four places to 30th and a new career-high rating following his half-century in Sylhet, while teammate and acting captain Charith Asalanka improved seven spots to equal 33rd after his unbeaten 44 in the same match that included six sixes.

There was also a debut in the T20I rankings for batters for Netherlands opener Michael Levitt, with the right-hander entering in 49th place following a century and two half-centuries from his first five matches in the shortest format.

India is back to no.1 ranking in all 3 formats after this series win. In Test ranking. They are 3 points ahead of Australia. Result of the ongoing match may impact the table. Not sure.

Jaiswal has entered top 10 rankings in his career for the first time. Ranked 10th now. He has joined Kohli in top 10. Rohit at 11. Gill has also progessed to 31.

T20 player rankings are big jokes. They need to make the T20 rankings more practical.

Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is back at the top of the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after finishing with a nine-wicket match haul in his 100th Test match.

Ashwin returned hauls of four for 51 and five for 77 against England as India won by an innings and 64 runs in Dharamsala to complete a 4-1 win in the ICC World Test Championship series.

Ashwin reclaimed the top spot from compatriot Jasprit Bumrah to start his sixth stint at the top of the rankings. He first became number one in December 2015.

Player of the Match Kuldeep Yadav, who became the fastest Indian in terms of balls bowled to take 50 Test wickets, has risen 15 places to a career-best 16th position after finishing with seven wickets in the match.

India captain Rohit Sharma (up five places to sixth) and Shubman Gill (up 11 places to a career-best 20th) have also made notable gains while Player of the Series Yashasvi Jaiswal has moved up two places to eighth after notching a half-century.

Jaiswal aggregates 740 rating points after nine Tests, with only two batters having tallied more after as many Tests – Australians Don Bradman (752) and Mike Hussey (741).

England players Zak Crawley and Jonny Bairstow have moved up a slot each in the batting rankings while spinner Shoaib Bashir has progressed 11 places to 71st position.

Australia completed a 2-0 series win over New Zealand in Christchurch to take second place behind India in the WTC table and Alex Carey’s match-winning 98 not out sees him go up from 50th to 38th.

Fast bowler Josh Hazlewood continued his fine run to finish with six wickets in the match, including a five-for, to make it 35 wickets at 15.31 for the season and moved to second position behind Ashwin.

That equals his best-ever position in the rankings, which he first achieved in February 2017. Despite a peak bowling rating of 864 – achieved in March 2017 – Hazlewood has never been in top spot. Only Kapil Dev (877), Ryan Harris (870), Courtney Walsh (868) and Rangana Herath (866) have had higher peaks without ever reaching number one position.

Matt Henry’s superb first innings figures of seven for 67 helped him advance six places to 12th and over the 700-point mark for the first time in his career. He is also up to sixth among all-rounders.

Australian Mitchell Marsh (up eight places to 55th) and New Zealand players Tom Latham (up six places 35th) and Rachin Ravindra (up 10 places to 66th) are others to move up the batting rankings.

Ibrahim Zadran (up three places to 14th among batters) and Fazalhaq Farooqi (up 10 places to 41st among bowlers) have also gained in the latest update.

The Men’s T20I Rankings see Muhammad Waseem move up two places to 14th among batters after scoring 68 not out and Junaid Siddiqui move up 14 places to 74th among bowlers after returning four for 14 as the United Arab Emirates beat Scotland in the first T20I in Dubai.

Rankings boost for Afghanistan spinner heading into T20 World Cup

Rashid Khan returned from injury in style with eight wickets for Afghanistan against Ireland and was duly rewarded on the rankings list for T20I bowlers.

Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan issued an ominous warning on the eve of this year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup by re-entering the top 10 of the ICC Men's T20I Bowler Rankings.

Rashid rose four places to equal ninth on the rankings that were updated by the ICC on Wednesday, following his Player of the Series heroics that helped guide Afghanistan to a 2-1 series triumph over Ireland recently.

The Afghanistan ace collected a series-high eight wickets over the three matches at an average of 5.62 in what was the 25-year-old’s first series back since he injured his back during last year's ICC Men's Cricket World Cup.

Rashid, who first held the No.1 ranking for T20I bowlers at the start of 2018 and has consistently remained near the top of the list up until recent times, only slipped out of the top 10 recently and will be keen to maintain his position within the premier spots in the lead-up to the T20 World Cup in USA and the Caribbean during June.

Rashid's Afghanistan teammate Naveen-ul-Haq (up two places to 55th) made some ground following his three wickets during the Ireland series, while Irish trio Josh Little (up seven spots to 39th), Mark Adair (up two places to 56th) and Barry McCarthy (up 15 spots to 77th) also boosted their T20I bowler ranking that is still being led by England spinner Adil Rashid.

India dynamo Suryakumar Yadav remains way out in front of the rankings for T20I batters, with Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi moving back within the top 50 with a one-spot rise following his series-high 90 runs against Ireland.

Bangladesh veteran Shakib Al Hasan maintains his place at the top of the rankings for T20I all-rounders, with Ireland's Gareth Delany (up four places to 18th) the biggest mover in this category following his 76 runs and a wicket against Afghanistan.

There was also some movement in the latest ODI rankings for batters following Sri Lanka's series against Bangladesh, with the most notable change coming from Pathum Nissanka who entered the top 10 at eighth following a three-place rise.

Nissanka totalled 151 runs from the series that Bangladesh claimed 2-1, while Sri Lanka teammate Charith Asalanka improved two spots to 14th on the back of his 146 runs from three innings.

Bangladesh trio Mushfiqur Rahim (up six spots to 26th), Najmul Hossain Shanto (up 10 places to 39th) and Towhid Hridoy (up 12 spots to equal 26th) all made some ground on the rankings for ODI batters, while pacer Shoriful Islam up (11 rungs to 24th) was the big mover on the rankings for ODI bowlers following his five wickets for the series.

Sri Lanka skipper the big winner on latest rankings update

Twin tons during the first Test against Bangladesh has propelled Sri Lanka's new Test captain within sight of the top 10 batters in the world.

Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva has been rewarded for his Player of the Match heroics during the first Test against Bangladesh by making giant strides on the latest ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

The Sri Lanka skipper scored twin tons in Sylhet to help his side register a commanding 328-run victory over their Asian rival and in the process rose to a new career-high rating on the updated rankings for Test batters.

De Silva shot up a whopping 15 places to 14th overall following scores of 102 and 108, with the 32-year-old improving to a best-ever figure of 695 rating points to be within just 40 rating points of breaking into the top 10 Test batters in the world.

Kamindu Mendis also contributed twin tons during the first Test against Bangladesh and the left-hander re-entered the rankings for Test batters in equal 64th place following an eye-catching performance in what was just his second Test appearance.

Veteran left-hander Mominul Haque played a lone hand for Bangladesh with an unbeaten 87* in the second innings in Sylhet and rose eight places to 50th on the list for Test batters as a result.

There was more joy for Sri Lanka's players on the updated rankings for Test bowlers, with right-arm quick Kasun Rajitha among the biggest movers following his five-wicket haul in the second innings against Bangladesh.

It helped Rajitha move up six places to 38th overall, while teammates Vishwa Fernando (up seven spots to 43rd) and Lahiru Kumara (up six rungs to equal 46th) also made some ground following impressive performances with the ball.

India duo Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin maintain their spots at the head of the Test rankings for all-rounders, with Bangladesh spinner Mehidy Hasan (up one place to 14th) and de Silva (up five spots to equal 25th) the notable movers this week.

How on earth Is babar still? Nvm stupid ranking.

And who is Harry tector? Sounds like an AI bot.
Babar is number 1 because not much ODI cricket is happening atm. Shubman's ranking declined because he missed few games earlier so it affect the ranking.

Sri Lanka all-rounder Kamindu Mendis and former captain Angelo Mathews have progressed in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings after contributing to their team’s 192-run victory in Chattogram that helped complete a 2-0 win in the ICC World Test Championship series against Bangladesh.

Kamindu Mendis’s scores of 92 not out and nine have lifted him 18 places to 46th position in the batters’ list while his three-wicket haul in the second innings sees him gain 46 slots and reach 117th position among bowlers.

Mathews, who enjoyed a career-high third rank in August 2014, has inched up two places to 25th after scores of 23 and 56. In what is another notable movement for a Sri Lankan batter, Kusal Mendis has progressed three places to 52nd after scoring 93 in the first innings.

In the bowling rankings, Asitha Fernando has moved up seven places to 27th position after a four-wicket haul in the first innings, Vishwa Fernando is up from 43rd to 41st with three wickets in the match and Lahiru Kumara has gone from 46th to 44th after finishing with six wickets in Chattogram.

Mominul Haque has gained four slots and is in 46th position after scoring 83 runs in his two innings.

Debutant fast bowler Hasan Mahmud has entered the Test bowling rankings in 95th position after grabbing six wickets in the match.

Nepal all-rounder rewarded with massive rankings rise

Dipendra Singh Airee's six-hitting heroics have been rewarded with the Nepal star making giant gains on the latest ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings.

Airee joined India great Yuvraj Singh and West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard and became just the third player to smash six sixes in an over when he took 36 runs from one Kamran Khan's final six balls on his way to an unbeaten 64* during an ACC Men's T20I Premier Cup clash against Qatar in Al Amerat on Saturday.

The feat not only helped Nepal to a comfortable 32-run victory over their Asian rival, but it also saw Airee make good ground in both the T20I batter rankings and all-rounder rankings that were updated by the ICC on Wednesday.

Airee improved a total of 16 places to equal 61st on the updated rankings for T20I batters, while also moving to the cusp of the top 10 when rising 14 spots to 11th on the list for T20I all-rounders.

The in-form all-rounder wasn't the only player from Nepal to make ground on the latest rankings update, with teammate Aasif Sheikh moving up 36 spots to 75th on the list for T20I batters following a hat-trick of good scores at the same tournament.

The 22-year-old opener produced scores of 32, 52 and 40 in consecutive matches against Malaysia, Qatar and Hong Kong and rose to a new career-high rating as a result of his good form.

Kushal Malla has also been in decent touch for Nepal of late and the 20-year-old rose five places to equal 27th on the updated T20I all-rounder rankings on the back of an innings of 35 and a wicket against Qatar.

Pace spearhead is Pakistan's best after rankings jump

Left-arm quick Shaheen Afridi is once again Pakistan's highest-rated T20I bowler, following the latest update to the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings.

Shaheen rises two spots to 17th overall for T20I bowlers on the back of his strong start to Pakistan's ongoing T20I series at home against New Zealand, where the 24-year-old is the leading wicket-taker for the series through the first three matches.

The pacer took the only wicket in the opening match of the series that was ruined by rain and his haul of 3/13 in Pakistan's decisive seven-wicket triumph over the Kiwis in the second game of the series has led to the rise up the rankings and past teammate and fellow quick Haris Rauf in 22nd place.

England's Adil Rashid remains out in front as the No.1 ranked player on the latest T20I rankings for bowlers, while fellow spinner Ish Sodhi also gains some ground following three wickets for New Zealand in the series against Pakistan.

Sodhi collected 1/18 in the second match of the series in Rawalpindi and then improved on that effort during the Kiwis' emphatic seven-wicket victory at the same ground with figures of 2/25 as New Zealand levelled the series at 1-1 with two matches remaining.

India star Suryakumar Yadav remains at the top of the T20I rankings for batters, with a pair of New Zealanders on the move following a good start to the series with Pakistan.

Opener Tim Seifert rises three places to 24th, while teammate Mark Chapman is the big improver following his unbeaten half-century and Player of the Match heroics in the third game of the series in Pakistan.

Chapman smashed 87* from just 42 deliveries in a standout individual performance with the bat and was duly rewarded by making a 12-place jump to 33rd overall as a result of his innings that included a quartet of massive sixes.

There is also another new career-high rating for Dipendra Singh Airee on the updated rankings for T20I batters, with the Nepal all-rounder continuing the form that saw him become just the third player to smash six sixes in an over of a T20I match earlier this month.

Airee joined India great Yuvraj Singh and West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard as players to have achieved the remarkable feat when he launched Kamran Khan over the rope six consecutive times during Nepal's match against Qatar at the ACC Men's T20I Premier Cup and the 24-year-old was at it again in the playoff for third at the same event.

The hard-hitting Nepal star contributed an unbeaten 44* from just 29 deliveries and climbed another 10 rungs in the rankings for T20I batters to move to a new career-high rating in 50th place. he is the fourth men's player from his country to reach the top 50 with the bat after Paras Khadka reached 42nd in September 2019, Kaushal Bhurtel reached 27th in the list in March 2022, and Rohit Paudel reached 45th in March this year.

Good signs for the Pakistan captain just weeks out from the start of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup as he closes in on the No.1 T20I batter ranking.

Pakistan skipper Babar Azam has closed the gap on India dynamo Suryakumar Yadav at the top of the ICC Men's T20I Batter Rankings following an excellent end to his side's series against New Zealand.

Babar was Pakistan's leading run-scorer during an enthralling series that ended tied at 2-2, with the right-hander scoring a half-century in a victory in the fifth T20I of the series to finish with a total of 125 runs from four innings at the top of his side's batting order.

Babar's Pakistan teammate Fakhar Zaman also made good ground on the latest rankings update, with the attacking left-hander improving 10 places to 62nd place on the back of his 104 runs for the series.

There was also a boost for Pakistan and New Zealand players on the updated list for T20I bowlers, with pace spearhead Shaheen Afridi jumping three places to equal 14th following his eight scalps across four matches against the Kiwis.

New Zealand duo Michael Bracewell (up 13 spots to 55th) and Ben Sears (up 29 places to 60th) also make some ground on the list for T20I bowlers, while Pakistan's Imad Wasim up is the biggest mover on the T20I all-rounder rankings as he rises 10 rungs to 22nd following a pair of decent effort against the Black Caps.

hahaha honestly speaking i m surprized how the hell he closed up that gap with SKY after a terrible performance in last few games, just a 1 fifty in last 4 T20is is not good enough to boost his ratings.

Australia, who defeated India in the ICC World Test Championship final at The Oval last year, have reclaimed No. 1 position in the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings following the annual update that drops results from the 2020-21 season and reflects all series completed since May 2021.

Australia now lead the table with 124 rating points, but India, who ceded top position to them, are just four points behind and 15 points clear of third-placed England. South Africa are the fourth team above the 100-point mark with 103 points.

India slipped mainly because their 2-1 series win in Australia in 2020-21 has dropped from the rankings.

The order of teams ranked from third to ninth remains the same. Only nine teams are now ranked as Afghanistan and Ireland have yet to play sufficient Tests while Zimbabwe too are out as they have played only three Tests over the past three years.

Teams need to play a minimum of eight Tests over a three-year period to get on the rankings table.

India, however, remain atop the ODI and T20I rankings after the annual updates, that weight matches completed prior to May 2023 at 50 per cent and subsequent matches at 100 per cent.

India may have lost the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup final to Australia but have increased their lead over them from three to six points, leading the table with 122 points. There are no changes in the top 10 but Ireland have overtaken Zimbabwe to 11th position.

Third-placed South Africa have closed the gap with Australia from eight to four points while Sri Lanka are just two points behind fifth-placed England.

The T20I rankings see Australia move ahead of England to second place but they are seven points adrift of India, who lead with 264 rating points.

South Africa are just two points behind England after leapfrogging two places from the sixth position that they had before the update. New Zealand also have 250 points like South Africa but behind on fractions while the West Indies are at 249 points, which means that just three points separate third-placed England from sixth-placed West Indies.

In other movements, Pakistan have dropped two places to seventh while Scotland have overtaken Zimbabwe to 12th position.

Outside the top 20, the biggest rating gains are achieved by Spain (up from 33rd to 30th), Isle of Man (44th to 41st) and Switzerland (50th to 45th).

In all, 86 countries have played at least eight T20Is in the past three years and so earned a ranking. Six countries are no longer ranked: Greece, Mexico, Myanmar and Turkey have played seven T20Is and so will be ranked after their next match, while Belize and Cook Island have played six T20Is, so will be ranked after playing two more matches.

I think I need to bump the Suryakumar bringing legitimacy to the rankings thread

How is Babar the world’s 3rd or 4th best T20 batsman?!

The reason Pakistan is at number 6 in test rankings is the lack of specialist test bowlers in our squad. Our white-ball cricketers play test cricket part-time.

In the ICC Men’s Test Team Rankings, Australia have taken back the top spot after the yearly update that removed results from the 2020–21 season and takes account of all series’ played since May 2021.

Australia now leads the standings with 124 rating points. India are in the second spot with 120 rating points. With 105 points, England are in the third place. With 103 points, South Africa are the fourth team to have more than 100 points.

The reason behind India’s drop in the rankings is the removal of the 2-1 series victory in Australia in 2020–21.

Good signs for Bangladesh players just weeks out from the start of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

A pair of experienced Bangladesh players have been rewarded for their good form against Zimbabwe by making giant strides on the latest ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings.

The Asian side have won the first three contests of their five-match home series against Zimbabwe and the victories have been built on the back of some solid displays with the ball.

Bangladesh have four of the top six leading wicket-takers for the series and they will be buoyed by the form of seamer Taskin Ahmed and spinner Mahedi Hasan just weeks out from the start of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

Taskin has six wickets at a miserly average of just 8.83 from a trio of appearances against Zimbabwe and has shot up six places to 26th on the latest T20I bowler rankings to achieve a new career-high rating.

Mahedi also enjoys a six-spot rise up the same list, with the 29-year-old moving up to equal 22nd place following three wickets from two matches against the African side.

T20 World Cup stars make rankings rise on eve of tournament

International stars from Pakistan, West Indies and England have all made good ground on the final update of the ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings before the start of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup.

While portions of England's home series against Pakistan have been hampered by inclement weather, that has not stopped players from both sides from making inroads on the latest rankings update just days out from the start of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA.

England captain Jos Buttler rises one place to seventh on the updated rankings for T20I batters on the back of his superb innings of 84 in Birmingham, while teammate Jonny Bairstow jumps eight places to 36th on the same list following his knock of 21 during the same contest.

It was Fakhar Zaman who top-scored for Pakistan during that match and the dashing left-hander has risen six places to 51st following his innings of 45 from just 21 deliveries against England.

There is also a trio of players from the West Indies on the rise following their recent series sweep over South Africa, with Brandon King (up five spots to eighth), Johnson Charles (up 17 places to 20th) and Kyle Mayers (up 12 rungs to 31st) all making giant inroads on the rankings for T20I batters following some impressive performances.

Teammate Gudakesh Motie was adjudged Player of the Series for his eight wickets during that series against the Proteas and the left-arm spinner is the big winner on the updated rankings for T20I bowlers as he rises from outside the top 100 to 27th overall.

England quick Reece Topley gains one spot to improve to ninth on the list for T20I bowlers, while Pakistan trio Shaheen Afridi (up three spots to equal 11th), Haris Rauf (up two places to 25th) and Imad Wasim (up 14 rungs to 38th) all make ground based on their recent performances with the ball.

India star Suryakumar Yadav will commence the T20 World Cup as the No.1 ranked T20I batter, while England spinner Adil Rashid will start the tournament as the No.1 ranked T20I bowler.

New Zealand are on 250 while Pakistan and South Africa are both on 244 points with Pakistan slightly ahead on decimal points.

The West Indies players too have reaped the benefits of their superb performances in the home series not long before their tournament opener against Papua New Guinea in Guyana on 2 June.
Opening batter Brandon King is up five places to eighth position after topping the series aggregate with 159 runs and Johnson Charles, who hammered 69 off 26 balls to be named Player of the Match in the third T20I, is up 17 places to 20th.

Kyle Mayers is another batter to move up, gaining 12 places to reach 31st position with an aggregate of 102 runs while left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie has advanced a whopping 84 places to 27th after finishing with eight wickets in the series.

In the latest weekly update that also considers performances in the last two matches of the Bangladesh-USA series and the ongoing series between England and Pakistan, England captain Jos Buttler has inched up to seventh position, Jonny Bairstow is up eight places to 36th while Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has advanced from 57th to 51st.

In the bowling rankings, Shaheen Afridi is up three places to 11th while Imad Wasim is another Pakistan player to gain, up 14 places to 38th.

For the USA, Steven Taylor has made big gains, progressing 28 places to 109 in the batting rankings while for Bangladesh, Rishad Hussain has moved up 38 places to 52nd in the bowling rankings.

South Africa quick surges up rankings after T20 World Cup heroics

Movement in the latest T20I rankings following the first seven matches at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.

South Africa fast bowler Anrich Nortje blasted up the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings after his stunning display against Sri Lanka in the first week of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024.

Nortje returned remarkable figures of 4/7 from his four overs as South Africa hammered Sri Lanka by six wickets in New York, setting a new record for the best figures by a Proteas bowler in the Men's T20 World Cups. The previous record was also with Nortje, he picked 4/10 against Bangladesh in 2022 in Sydney.

The 30-year-old’s superb performance has seen him leap up nine places in the Men's T20I Bowling Rankings, bursting into the top 10 and up to eighth.
Nortje is now the second-highest pace bowler in the rankings, behind Australia’s Josh Hazlewood (in fifth). England’s Adil Rashid remains in top spot, with Wanindu Hasaranga and Axar Patel rounding off the top three.

Afghanistan’s Fazalhaq Farooqi also moves up to 10th in the Bowing Rankings thanks to his superb returns of 5/9 against Uganda at the Providence Stadium in Guyana, with Tabraiz Shamsi and Reece Topley both dropping out of the top 10.

The two Afghanistan opening batters were the other notable movers in the latest update to the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings.

Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran put on an 154-run opening partnership in their big victory over Uganda at the T20 World Cup this week, and have each jumped four places in the format’s rankings as a result.

The 20-year-old Gurbaz moves into the top 20, with Zadran four spots behind in 24th.

The top 10 remains unchanged with Suryakumar Yadav, the top-ranked batter in the format, joined by England’s Phil Salt and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan in the top three.
Meanwhile, Shakib Al Hasan is the beneficiary of an unusually disappointing outing for Sri Lanka’s Hasaranga against South Africa on Monday, with the Bangladesh all-rounder leapfrogging Hasaranga into the top spot in the All-Rounder Rankings.

Rankings joy for Afghanistan as new No.1 all-rounder is crowned

A strong start to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 has seen a host of players from Afghanistan make good ground on the updated player rankings.

Afghanistan’s unbeaten start to the ICC Men's T20 World Cup has seen one of their star performers rise to the top of the ICC Men's T20I All-Rounder Rankings.

The Asian side have won both of their contests in the USA and West Indies thus far at the 20-over showcase and a host of their players have been in scintillating touch with bat and ball.

Veteran Mohammad Nabi is the big winner in the latest rankings update, with the 39-year-old rising to the No.1 spot on the list for all-rounders following his recent two-wicket haul against New Zealand in Guyana.

Nabi jumps up two places to first on the updated T20I rankings for all-rounders, with Australia's Marcus Stoinis rising three places to claim second spot and previous No.1-ranked player Shakib Al Hasan drooping four rungs to fifth as a result of the major shake-up at the top.

It's not just Nabi who is making the most of Afghanistan's impressive start to the T20 World Cup, with a trio of his teammates also making good ground on the latest rankings for T20I batters and bowlers.

Opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz in the leading run-scorer at the T20 World Cup thus far with 156 runs from two innings and the in-form right-hander moves up eight places to 12th and reaches a new career-high rating on the updated list for T20I batters.

India's Suryakumar Yadav remains well out in front of the T20I batter rankings, with Pakistan's Babar Azam (up one place to third), England's Jos Buttler (up two spots to fifth), West Indies' Brandon King (up one rung to seventh) and Australia's Travis Head (up six spots to 10th) all gaining ground inside the top 10 following good starts to the tournament.

England spinner Adil Rashid holds on to top spot on the latest T20I rankings for bowlers, but there is plenty of movement behind both him and second-placed Wanindu Hasaranga of Sri Lanka.

Afghanistan duo Rashid Khan (up four spots to third) and Fazalhaq Farooqi (up six places to to equal fourth) make progress following excellent showings at the T20 World Cup, while South Africa pacer Anrich Nortje (up four rungs to equal fourth) also makes ground on the back of his eight wickets from three matches.

There is also some joy for a trio of Bangladesh players, with Mustafizur Rahman (up 10 spots to 13th, Taskin Ahmed (up eight places to 19th) and Rishad Hossain (up 24 places to 30th) making eye-catching ground following decent hauls for their side over the last week against Sri Lanka and South Africa.

Australia all-rounder knocks Nabi off top spot in ICC T20 Rankings

Mohammad Nabi’s stay at the top of the ICC Men’s T20I All-rounder Rankings has been short, with some stunning performances boosting Australia’s Marcus Stoinis to the summit.

The world’s new top-ranked all-rounder took six wickets and made three impressive contributions with the bat as Australia cruised through to the Super Eight stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup with a perfect record.

His 2/9 helped his side to a hammering of Namibia, but he saved his most important contribution until last in the group stage, hitting an inspired 59 from 29 balls to steer Australia to a win over Scotland that looked a long way off when he came to the crease at 60/3 in the ninth over.

Wanindu Hasarang and Shakib Al Hasan make up the top three, with Nabi slipping down the rankings but still close behind in fourth.

While the batting power of World Cup co-hosts West Indies is the headline feature of their squad, it has been their bowlers who have shone the brightest so far in the tournament, and the rankings reflect that.

Akeal Hosein is the big mover, surging up six places in the ICC T20I Bowling Rankings into second. England’s Adil Rashid remains No. 1.

Alzarri Joseph has also moved up six spaces to just outside the top ten, while teammate Gudakesh Motie has surged 16 spots up the rankings into 13th.

The top four of the Men’s Batting Rankings remain the same, with Suryakumar Yadav, Phil Salt, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan occupying those spots.

But change is on the horizon with some in-form players making big moves up the rankings a little lower down.

Australian opener Travis Head is up five places to fifth, while West Indies star Nicholas Pooran is up eight to 11th.

There’s also a notable rise from Sherfane Rutherford after his extraordinary 68* against New Zealand. The West Indies finisher isn’t likely to trouble the top ten in the rankings any time soon, but moved up 43 places to 42nd thanks to his World Cup heroics.

Dynamic left-hander is the new No.1 batter in ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings

There is a new number one in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings, with India’s Suryakumar Yadav being knocked off the top spot after his lengthy stay at the summit.

Suryakumar Yadav has been the top-ranked men’s batter in the T20 format since December 2023, having also held the No. 1 spot on previous occasions. But SKY’s tenure is no more, thanks to some stunning displays at the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup by an in-form Australian.

Aussie opener Travis Head is the newly crowned leader of the rankings, having enjoyed a stunning run since cementing his spot at the top of the order for his national side in the shortest format.

Head saved his best for last in the T20 World Cup, slamming a brilliant 76 in a losing cause against India, keeping a high-scoring game alive for far longer than looked likely after Rohit Sharma had teed up a huge score for India.

The Australian has jumped four places into the top spot, with Suryakumar, Phil Salt, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Rizwan all dropping down a place to make up the remainder of the top five.

West Indies’ Johnson Charles is the only new arrival into the top ten, up four spots, with Afghanistan star Rahmanullah Gurbaz a place lower after going up five spots.

It’s not all good news for Australians in the latest edition of the rankings, however, with Marcus Stoinis being knocked off top spot in the All-rounders Rankings after his short stay as No. 1.

Stoinis is down to fourth, with India’s Hardik Pandya up to third, Mohammad Nabi of Afghanistan in second, and Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga back to top spot.

Roston Chase of West Indies is the big mover among the all-rounders, up 17 places to 12th.

England’s Adil Rashid remains top of the bowling rankings, but Rashid Khan is up to second after his T20 World Cup heroics, with Josh Hazlewood moving up three places into fourth, behind Hasaranga.

A few big names are surging up the bowling rankings a bit further down the standings, having been used sparingly by their countries for varying reasons in recent times. Kuldeep Yadav is up 20 places into 11th, while his Indian teammate Jasprit Bumrah has jumped a remarkable 44 spots into 24th, and England’s Jofra Archer is up 19 to 38th on his comeback from injury.

Hardik Pandya crowned top T20I all-rounder after T20 World Cup final heroics

Hardik Pandya's impressive showing in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup has seen him become the No.1 ranked all-rounder in the latest ICC Men's T20I Rankings update.

Hardik Pandya rose two places to go level with Sri Lankan star Wanindu Hasaranga as the top-ranked men's T20I all-rounder. The all-rounder, who made a big contribution in the final with the crucial wickets of Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller, had a good tournament with bat and ball and becomes the first Indian man to reach No.1 in the category.

Hardik Pandya made impactful cameos down the order with the bat and made breakthroughs with the ball when the team needed him to. He finished with 144 runs at a batting strike-rate of over 150 and also took 11 wickets.

His most important performance, though, came in the final when his decisive blow - the wicket of Klaasen - with South Africa on top of the game swung the contest. Hardik went on to bowl the tense final over and defended 16 runs to help India win the T20 World Cup title.

There were other movements in the top 10 of the T20I all-rounder rankings, with Marcus Stoinis , Sikandar Raza, Shakib Al Hasan and Liam Livingstone rising up by one spot. Mohammad Nabi moved back by four spots to go out of the top five.

Among the men's T20I bowling rankings, Anrich Nortje rose up by seven places to a caree-best second spot to go just behind top-ranked Adil Rashid with 675 rating points.

India's star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who won the Player of the Tournament award at the T20 World Cup, for his 15 wickets, moved up by 12 spots to go just outside the top ten, his highest position since the end of 2020.

Kuldeep Yadav entered the top ten of the bowling rankings, moving up by three spots to joint-eighth. Among other beneficiaries were Arshdeep Singh, who moved up by four spots to a career-best No.13 after topping the wickets chart at the T20 World Cup, and Tabraiz Shamsi, who moved up by five positions to reach the top 15.

There wasn't too much movement in the top ten of the batting rankings with one minor change in South Africa skipper Aiden Markram dropping down by two points after an ordinary tournament with the bat.

Stellar performance in Zimbabwe helps India batter break into top 10 of ICC Rankings

Performers in the bilateral series between Zimbabwe and India in Harare made gains in the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings.

Highly-touted Ruturaj Gaikwad has gained 13 places in the ICC Men’s T20I Batting Rankings to enter the top 10, off the the back of a stellar 77* off 47 balls in a comprehensive India win in the second T20I.

Gaikwad jumped 13 spots from 20th to the seventh as a result of the knock.

With most of India’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad rested for the Zimbabwe tour, the five-game series has allowed India’s back-up players to showcase their talent, And with the retirement of stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja, the up and coming players can make a good case for a regular place in the side.

Apart from Gaikwad, Rinku Singh and Abhishek Sharma also made solid gains among the India batters. Rinku, who was among the reserves for the T20 World Cup, jumped four places to reach the 39th spot on the back of an attacking 48* from 22 balls in the second T20I.

And after a duck in the first game, all-rounder Abhishek Sharma smashed a stunning 100 from just 47 balls in the second game. With this spectacular knock, he entered the rankins in 75th. Zimbabwe’s Brian Bennett gained 25 places to finish at the 96th position courtesy of his two attacking cameos, making 22 off 15 and 26 off nine in the two matches.

There were some movements in the top 10 positions of the ICC Men’s T20I Bowling Rankings, with Adam Zampa (7th), Fazalhaq Farooqi (8th), and Maheesh Theekshana (10th) gaining positions after Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav dropped places while sitting out the Zimbabwe series. Ravi Bishnoi with his six scalps in the first two games against Zimbabwe meant he jumped eight places to move into 14th spot. Blessing Muzarabani also gained eight positions after the first two matches, up to 55th, with his spell of 1/17 instrumental in the Chevrons winning the first T20I.

Wanindu Hasaranga moved to sole leader in the ICC Men's T20I All-Rounder Rankings, with Hardik Pandya back to second place. India's Washington Sundar entered the top 50 on the back of his quickfire 27 in the first game, as well as his three wickets in two outings.

India duo receive rankings boost following decent hauls against Zimbabwe

India's best performers against Zimbabwe were rewarded on the T20I rankings as a host of England stars make ground on the lists for Test players.

A pair of up-and-coming stars from India were the big winners on the latest update of the ICC Men's T20I Batter Rankings.

India registered an impressive 4-1 series triumph over Zimbabwe recently and two of their best performed players have been the eye-catching movers on the updated list for T20I batters.

Young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was the big winner following his 141 runs for the series as he rises four places to sixth overall behind No.1 ranked batter Travis Head and second-placed Suryakumar Yadav.

Teammate Shubman Gill was the lading run-scorer during that Zimbabwe series and he too rises the batting charts, moving up a whopping 36 places to 37th as a result on the back of his 170 runs from five innings.

Gill is now the fourth highest player from India on the T20I rankings, with the 24-year-old moving past recently retired duo Rohit Sharma (42nd) and Virat Kohli (51st) to only trail Suryakumar (second), Jaiswal (sixth) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (eighth).

Zimbabwe pacer Blessing Muzarabani gained 11 places to move to 44th overall on the list for T20I bowlers following his six wickets against India, while Washington Sundar (up 36 spots to 46th) and Mukesh Kumar (up 21 rungs to 73rd) progressed up the same group after their efforts in the same series.

England spinner Adil Rashid remains in the No.1 spot for T20I bowlers, while Sri Lanka tweaker is narrowly clear in the list for T20I all-rounders as Zimbabwe veteran Sikandar Raza gains a single place to rise to third following good efforts with bat and ball against India.

There was also some movement on the updated Test rankings, with a host of England players the biggest climbers following their efforts in dispatching of the West Indies with ease at Lord's.

Ben Stokes' side cruised to victory by an innings and 114 runs over the Caribbean side in London and four of their best performers with the bat gained some ground on the list for Test batters.

Harry Brook gains three places to move to seventh behind No.1 ranked Kiwi Kane Williamson, while top-order batters Zak Crawley (up three spots to 13th) and Ollie Pope (up three places to 29th) also gain some ground after good scores in the nation's capital.

Travis Head is rightly there as no. 1 T20I batter

ICC needs to readjust its formula for -1% rating for every game in the format missed. It is distorting the rankings considerably.
Maybe -1% for a month of inactivity or something like that. or maybe -1% only if player is skipping all formats. IDK, some adjustor is needed.

Who in their right mind will have Kohli and Rohit in 40s and 50s and Babar Azam and Rizwan in top 5 rankings?
Batsmen of Scotland, UAE, Afghanistan are in top 30s.

I had always liked the -1% adjuster in the past, between with so many formats, and people picking and choosing games for workload, The rankings are not being reflective of current strength at all.

England batters receive rankings boost following dominant Trent Bridge triumph

England's dominant performance in the second Test against the West Indies has seen a host of their star players make big gains on the latest ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

Ben Stokes' side cruised to an emphatic 241-run victory over the Caribbean team in the Trent Bridge contest and veteran batter Joe Root was among the many players to display their prowess as the right-hander scored his 32nd Test century to move within striking distance of Kane Williamson and the No.1 ranking for Test batters.

Root improves 12 rating points to close within seven rating points of the New Zealand veteran Kane Williamson and could re-claim top billing with another strong showing with the bat during the third and final Test against the West Indies in Birmingham.

Teammate Harry Brook is the big mover up the batter rankings, with the 25-year-old improving four spots to a career-best place of third. He surpassed Babar Azam, Daryl Mitchell, Steve Smith and Rohit Sharma in the process following his century in the second innings in Nottingham.

England compatriots Ben Duckett (up six spots to 16th) and Ollie Pope (up eight places to 21st) also make some ground following solid contributions in the second Test, while the West Indies will be boosted by the improvements up the batter rankings made by Kraigg Brathwaite (up two places to 40th), Joshua Da Silva (up seven spots to 61st) and Kavem Hodge (up 21 rungs to 75th).

The most eye-catching move on the Test bowler rankings came from Chris Woakes, with the England pacer jumping four places and back inside the top 20 for the first time since September 2021 following his match haul of six wickets against the West Indies.

Young England spinner Shoaib Bashir improves 18 places to 53rd following his five-wicket haul in the second innings, while West Indies quick Jayden Seales gains 10 places and comes in at 34th after his six scalps during the Nottingham contest.

There was little change to the rankings in both white-ball formats, although a pair of Namibia players made some ground on the ODI rankings on the back of some good performances in the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 in Dundee.

Left-arm spinner Bernard Scholtz gains four places to move to sixth on the list for ODI bowlers with a new career-high rating following his three-wicket haul against Scotland, while teammate and captain Gerhard Erasmus gains one spot to move to fifth on the list for ODI all-rounders after scoring 63 and claiming two wickets in the same match.

England batter re-claims No.1 Test ranking as India stars rise T20I lists

Kane Williamson's reign as the No.1 ranked Test batter is over as Joe Root regained the premier position on the back of his strong recent showing in the series against the West Indies.

England star Joe Root has been rewarded for his excellent series against the West Indies by overtaking New Zealand veteran Kane Williamson and re-claiming his crown as the No.1 ranked batter on the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

Root managed a series-best 291 runs over three matches against the Caribbean side and his effort of 87 in the third and final Test of that series in Birmingham allowed the 33-year-old to catapult past Williamson and back into the top position he vacated last year.

The former England captain first became the No.1 ranked Test batter way back in August 2015 and his latest effort to climb to the top comes on the back of a strong series against the West Indies that saw him score his 32nd Test century and rise to seventh overall in the Test run-scorer list.

Williamson drops to second place on the Test batter rankings as a result of Root's recent surge, while Pakistan's Babar Azam (equal third), New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell (equal third), Australia's Steve Smith (fifth) and India's Rohit Sharma (sixth) all gain a spot as England's Harry Brook falls four rungs to seventh following a rare failure against the West Indies.

England captain Ben Stokes gains four places on the list for Test batters to rise to 30th following his cameo as opener against the West Indies, while teammates Mark Wood (up six spots to 20th) and Gus Atkinson (gains four places to 46th) are the main beneficiaries of a strong team performance with the ball in Birmingham as they climb the Test bowler rankings.

The good news for the West Indies from that third Test was the performance of Jayden Seales, with the young quick improving seven spots on the bowler charts to rise to equal 26th and a new career-high rating on the back of his three wickets in the first innings against England and 13 scalps for the series.

Stokes (up one place to sixth) and Chris Woakes (up three spots to ninth) make ground on the list for Test All-Rounders in a further boost for England as they stayed in touch with the ICC World Test Championship pacesetters, with India star Ravindra Jadeja remaining at the top of that category with a comfortable lead.

And it was a host of India's best white-ball performers that were the big winners on the latest T20I rankings, with Yashasvi Jaiswal (up two spots to fourth) and Shubman Gill (up 16 places to 21st and a new career-high rating) the biggest eye-catchers on the updated list for T20I batters following the team's series sweep over Sri Lanka away from home.

It's a similar story on the updated T20I bowler rankings, with former top-ranked spinner Ravi Bishnoi back inside the top 10 following an eight-spot jump.

Teammates Arshdeep Singh (up four spots to 19th), Washington Sundar (up six places to 40th) and Mohammed Siraj (up 37 rungs to 47th) also make some ground, while Sri Lanka will be buoyed by the ongoing improvement from Matheesha Pathirana that saw the speedster jump 13 places to equal 77th on the list for T20I bowlers.

There is also a major shake-up on the latest T20I rankings for all-rounders, with Australia's Marcus Stoinis claiming the No.1 spot once again despite his side not playing any 20-over cricket over the last week.

Stoinis replaces Wanindu Hasaranga at the top, with the Sri Lanka star dropping two places to fall to equal third after a relatively quiet series against India.

India batter closes gap on Babar following rapid rankings jump

Rohit closes in on the Pakistan right-hander following consecutive half centuries against Sri Lanka.

India captain Rohit Sharma has been rewarded for some good recent performances with the bat by making inroads on Pakistan's Babar Azam at the top of the ICC Men's ODI Batter Rankings.

Rohit is the leading run-scorer through the opening two contests of India's three-match series against Sri Lanka, with the veteran opener having amassed two half centuries and 122 runs already at an imposing strike rate of 134.06.

The 37-year-old helped himself to a quickfire 64 during the second game of that series in Colombo and gained one place in the rankings for ODI batters to third place in the latest update on Wednesday.

Rohit improves his overall rating to 763 rating points, with the right-hander now just 61 rating points behind Babar in the race to hold the No.1 ranking in the world for ODI batters.

Shubman Gill remains in second place despite just 51 runs from the opening two matches against Sri Lanka, while Axar Patel - who has 77 runs from two hits against the island nation - improves 35 places to rise to 178th overall on the updated rankings for ODI batters.

The biggest improvers from a Sri Lanka perspective come from a pair of right-handers, with Janith Liyanage gaining 10 spots on the list for ODI batters to move to equal 76th and opener Avishka Fernando improving nine places to rise to 88th in the same category.

There was also some movement on the updated rankings for ODI bowlers, with India spinner Kuldeep Yadav gaining five places inside the top 10 on the back of his three wickets from two appearances against Sri Lanka.

Kuldeep claimed good figures of 2/33 from the second match of the series and that helped the 29-year-old improve to equal fourth place behind South Africa's Keshav Maharaj on the list for ODI bowlers.

Young Sri Lanka spinner Dunith Wellalage is rewarded for his efforts with a five-spot gain to rise to 76th, while Axar improves 37 places to jump to 96th following his tidy spell of 1/36 in the second match of the series.

There are also big jumps on the bowler rankings for India all-rounder Washington Sundar and Sri Lanka spinner Jeffrey Vandersay following their impressive efforts in the series.

Sundar gains 45 places to rise to equal 97th following his three-wicket haul in the second match of the series, while Vandersay rockets up 64 positions to be on the cusp of the top 100 at 105th after his stunning six-wicket effort in the same contest.

Openers the big winners as rivals line up to take Babar's batting crown

India's experienced skipper closes in on Babar Azam at the top of the ODI rankings for batters, while a Sri Lanka opener also makes his move.

Openers from India and Sri Lanka have been the big winners after they made good ground near the top of the updated ICC Men's ODI Batter Rankings.

While Pakistan's Babar Azam holds a healthy lead at the head of the list for ODI batters, he has some fresh challenges in the form of India skipper Rohit Sharma and Sri Lanka right-hander Pathum Nissanka.

Rohit overtakes teammate Shubman Gill and rises one place to second behind Babar on the back of his series-best 157 runs against Sri Lanka, while Nissanka also gains a spot to move to eighth following his 101 runs from the same series.

Sri Lanka broke a 27-year drought by defeating India for the first time since 1997 during that ODI series, with Kusal Mendis (up five spots to equal 39th) and Avishka Fernando (up 20 places to 68th) also making some gains on the latest list for 50-over batters.

Hard-hitting Netherlands opener Max O'Dowd (up 10 places to 54th) and USA's Monank Patel (up 11 spots to equal 56th) also made ground on this list, while USA's Nosthush Kenjige (up 10 rungs to 49th) and Sri Lanka spinner Dunith Wellalage (up 17 spots to 59th) were among the big movers on the ODI rankings for bowlers.

There was also some movement on the latest Test player rankings, following the draw between the West Indies and South Africa in Trinidad.

South Africa captain Temba Bavuma finds a new career-high rating and improves two places to 16th on the list for Test batters following scores of 86 and 15* against the Caribbean side, while opener Tony de Zorzi gains 29 places to improve to 85th following an excellent 78 in the first innings of the ICC World Test Championship contest.

Jason Holder (up three spots to 67th) and Alick Athanaze (up 12 places to 76th) were among the movers for Test batters from a West Indies perspective, while South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj was the biggest eye-catcher on the latest list for Test bowlers.

Maharaj claimed four wickets in each innings on the way to Player of the Match honours and the left-armer improves seven spots to rise to equal 21st as a result.

The West Indies will be pleased by the ongoing progress of spinner Jomel Warrican, who rises 12 spots to 54th and gains a new career-best rating following his six scalps for the match.

Players from the West Indies and South Africa make ground on the latest Test rankings following the completion of their series in the Caribbean.

West Indies pair Jayden Seales and Jason Holder have been the big winners on the updated ICC Men's Test Player Rankings.

Seales and Holder both performed well during the West Indies' recent Test series against South Africa, despite the fact the Caribbean side fell to a 1-0 series defeat.

Seales collected nine wickets during the second Test in Guyana, with his six-wicket haul in the second innings of the contest seeing the 22-year-old collect his best Test figures of 6/61 and gain 13 places on the Test rankings for bowlers and a new career-high rating in 13th place.

West Indies teammates Jomel Warrican (up two spots to 52nd) and Shamar Joseph (up 11 rungs to 54th) also gained some ground on the list for Test bowlers, while South Africa seamer Wiaan Mulder goes up 27 places to 65th following his six wickets and Player of the Match performance.

Holder also made good ground in all three categories, with the 32-year-old gaining two spots to move up to fifth behind India duo Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin on the latest rankings for Test all-rounders following good contributions with the bat and ball in Guyana.

The veteran made an unbeaten half-century during the first innings of that second Test, pushing him up to fifth in the rankings for all-rounders and ensuring a seven-spot jump to equal 60th on the list for Test batters.

South Africa duo Aiden Markram (up two places to 21st) and Kyle Verreynne (up 16 spots to equal 46th) were the biggest eye-catchers on the Test rankings for batters, with Joe Root maintaining his place as the No.1 ranked batter ahead of England's Test series with Sri Lanka.

There was also some movement on the latest ODI Player Rankings, with stars from the Netherlands and the USA the big winners following strong efforts in ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2.

Netherlands skipper Scott Edwards rises six places to 26th on the list for ODI batters after a recent half-century against Canada, while USA's Aaron Jones (up 11 rungs to equal 56th) and Dutch teammate Vikramjit Singh (up nine spots to 79th) also make some ground.

It's a similar story on the list for ODI bowlers, with Netherlands duo Aryan Dutt (up five places to 33rd) and Paul van Meekeren (up 18 spots to 72nd) among the big movers.

Brook, Rizwan cause major shake-up of latest Test batter rankings

Big gains for Harry Brook and Mohammad Rizwan on the Test rankings, while a pair of West Indies players close in on the No.1 spot for T20I bowlers.

Harry Brook and Mohammad Rizwan have caused a major shake-up inside the top 10 of the updated ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings, as West Indies' white-ball stars make eye-catching jumps on the latest T20I lists.

While veteran right-hander Joe Root maintains his place as the No.1 ranked Test batter in the world following England's success in the opening Test of their series against Sri Lanka in Manchester, teammate Brook has made a massive jump on the back of scores of 56 and 32 during that Old Trafford contest.

Brook rises three places to fourth overall, with the 25-year-old catapulting past Pakistan's Babar Azam, Australia's Steve Smith and India's Rohit Sharma courtesy of his strong recent form.

Babar drops a whopping six places to fall from equal third to ninth following a rare failure in the first innings of Pakistan's Test against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi, with teammate Mohammad Rizwan gaining seven spots and achieving a new career-high rating by moving inside the top 10 at equal 10th following his century in the same match.

It means Babar is just six rating points ahead of Rizwan on the updated rankings for Test batters, while Pakistan vice-captain Saud Shakeel is not far behind after he gained one place to move to 13th overall on the back of his own century against Bangladesh.

Bangladesh right-hander Mushfiqur Rahim achieves a career-high rating as he gains seven spots to move to 17th, while Sri Lanka duo Dinesh Chandimal (up four places to 23rd) and Kamindu Mendis (up eight rungs to 36th) and England newcomer Jamie Smith (up 22 to 42nd) also rise the Test batter rankings.

India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remains out in front of the rankings for Test bowlers, although fellow tweaker Prabath Jayasuriya moves up one place to ninth for Sri Lanka following his five wickets in Manchester against England.

England seamer Chris Woakes (up four rungs to 16th) and Sri Lanka's Asitha Fernando (up 10 spots to 17th) also gain some ground, while there are new career-best ratings for Pakistan right-armer Naseem Shah (up four spots to 33rd) and England's Gus Atkinson (up four places to 42nd) following good returns from their recent appearances.

Woakes also improves one place to move up to eight on the list for Test all-rounders, with India spinner Ravindra Jadeja out in front of that category.

There is plenty of change on the latest T20I rankings, with a host of West Indies players gaining ground and moving inside the top 10 of their respective categories following the opening two matches of their series at home against South Africa.

Hard-hitters Nicholas Pooran (up three spots to ninth) and Shai Hope (up 32 places to equal 40th) rise the T20I rankings for batters, while Akeal Hosein improves four spots and Gudakesh Motie gains 10 as they occupy second and third places respectively on the list for T20I bowlers to only trail England's Adil Rashid.

South Africa opener Reeza Hendricks (up two places to 13th) improves up the list for T20I batters, while Romario Shepherd makes ground on the T20 rankings for bowlers (up 13 spots to equal 31st) and all-rounders (up five places to equal 14th) following a string of good performances against the Proteas.

Record low for Pakistan in Test Rankings after Bangladesh series loss

A 2-0 series loss to Bangladesh at home has seen Pakistan suffer a drop in the Test rankings.

Pakistan dropped two places in the ICC Men's Test Team Rankings to go to eighth position after suffering a shock series loss at home to Bangladesh.

The hosts were sixth in the Rankings table before the series, but back-to-back losses have seen them drop below West Indies to eighth with 76 rating points.

This is the lowest rating points Pakistan have had in the Test rankings table since 1965, barring a brief period where they did not have a place in the rankings due to an insufficient number of matches.

Root extends lead as top batter in latest ranking update

England batting star Joe Root has consolidated his position at the top of the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings after notching up centuries in both innings of the second Test against Sri Lanka at Lord’s that his team won by 190 runs to take a winning 2-0 lead in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series.

Root’s scores of 143 and 103 have helped him grab a whopping 41 rating points, increasing his lead over Kane Williamson to 63 points. Root is now on 922 rating points, just one shy of his best of 923 that he had reached after scoring 31 and 142 not out against India at Edgbaston in July 2022. Only three England batters have attained higher points tallies – Len Hutton, Jack Hobbs and Peter May.

Darryl Mitchell of New Zealand, Steve Smith of Australia and Harry Brook of England take positions three to five in the Test batters’ list and are followed by a trio of India players – captain Rohit Sharma, his opening partner Yashaswi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli.

Gus Atkinson is another player to gain big after starring with both bat and ball at Lord’s to earn the Player of the Match award. His maiden first-class century – 118 in the first innings – has lifted him 80 places to 96th in the ranking for batters while his five-wicket haul in the second innings has helped him move up 14 places to 28th among bowlers. He is also up 48 places to 17th in the all-rounders’ list led by Ravindra Jadeja.

Kamindu Mendis (up 11 places to 25th), Jamie Smith (up five places to 37th) and Pathum Nissanka (re-entered at 82nd position) are other notable movements for batters performing at Lord’s while Asitha Fernando’s eight wickets have lifted him into the top 10 for the first time.

Bangladesh’s six-wicket victory at Rawalpindi that helped seal a historic 2-0 series victory over Pakistan and see them in fourth position in the WTC points table on percentage points, has resulted in some major gains for their players.

Wicketkeeper-batter Liton Das has reached a career-best 15th position after rescuing his side from a precarious 26 for six in the first innings, scoring a solid 138 and adding 165 runs with Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Mehidy, who contributed a crucial 78 runs, has progressed 10 places to 75th among batters while his figures of five for 61 in the first innings have helped him move from 23rd to 22nd among bowlers and up to seventh among all-rounders.
