ICC Teams and Player Rankings watch for 2024

We are even lucky to be no8. Afg, Zim and Ireland can beat us with ease. PCB needs to be dissolved. No point to waste money on these players and no joy. Let these idiots work as a laboratory or ordinary jobs like others to earn hard earning money.

Record low for Pakistan in Test Rankings after Bangladesh series loss

This is the lowest rating points Pakistan have had in the Test rankings table since 1965,
barring a brief period where they did not have a place in the rankings due to an insufficient number of matches.

ICC

It's really low for Pakistan. Pakistan has mostly maintained rating points near 100. Some time a bit higher and some time a bit lower. Let's say 90-110. That has been usual range for Pakistan pretty much in entire history.

Going to 76 rating points is as much as deviation as Pakistan reaching to 226 points. I don't think Pakistan ever reached to 226 points, so it shows how much downward deviation 76 points are.

I think it should go up even by drawing some games agaisnt higher ranked teams. getting whitewashed by BD made Pakistan lose lots of points and made it to their lowest ratings.

Babar and Rizwan are still in top 10 in T20I. India couldn't include Ruturaj, Jaiswal in world T20 squad despite being in TOp 10.

Rankings joy for Sri Lanka stars following memorable England Test triumph

Big gains for a host of Sri Lanka players on the latest Test rankings, as Australia's best white-ball performers make eye-catching ground on the T20I lists.

Six Sri Lankan players have obtained new career-high ratings on the latest ICC Men's Test Rankings following their upset Test victory over England at The Oval.

Sri Lanka produced their first Test win over England away from home in the third Test of their recently-completed series, with the likes of skipper Dhananjaya de Silva, middle-order performer Kamindu Mendis and opener Pathum Nissanka leading the way with the bat for the island nation.

It was de Silva who top-scored for Sri Lanka in the first innings of the Test with a stylish 69 and that helped the right-hander obtain a new career-best rating and gain three places to move to 13th overall on the Test rankings for batters to now be the leading player on the list from his team.

Mendis and Nissanka also find new career-best ratings on the list for Test batters, with the former gaining six places to improve to 19th overall following a half-century of his own against England and the latter jumping a whopping 42 spots to 39th after an innings of 64 and 127*.

England's Joe Root holds on to his spot as the No.1 ranked Test batter despite scores of just 13 and 12 at The Oval, although the right-hander does see his rating fall from 922 rating points to 899 and allows the likes of New Zealand duo Kane Williamson and Daryl Mitchell and Australia's Steve Smith to draw closer.

It's a similar story for England's Harry Brook, with the right-hander falling seven places to 12th after scores of 19 and three against Sri Lanka.

It's not all bad news for England though, with stand-in skipper Ollie Pope gaining seven places and improving to equal 27th following a century in the first innings against Sri Lanka and keeper Jamie Smith jumps six spots to equal 30th after a quickfire half-century in the second innings.

There's more gains and further career-best ratings for a trio of Sri Lanka players on the latest Test bowler rankings, with Vishwa Fernando leading the way by gaining 13 spots to move to equal 31st following five wickets during the Test against England.

Teammates Lahiru Kumara (up 10 rungs to 32nd) and Milan Rathnayake (up 26 spots to equal 84th) also make some ground, while England quick Olly Stone (up 13 places to 74th) improves on the back of his three scalps in the first innings of the Test.

There is also some movement on the latest T20I rankings following Australia's series sweep over Scotland, with skipper Mitch Marsh (up two spots to equal 17th) and keeper Josh Inglis (up 28 places to 23rd) the biggest eye-catchers as they improve up the list for T20I batters.

Spinner Adam Zampa gains one place to move to seventh on the T20I rankings for bowlers, while Scotland will be buoyed by the vast improvement from Bradley Currie after he gained 20 spots to improve to 49th on the same list.

New No.1 T20I All-Rounder confirmed as England and Australia go toe-to-toe

England all-rounder rockets to the top in latest ICC Men's Player Rankings update.

England's Liam Livingstone has stormed to the No.1 spot on the T20I All-Rounder rankings following his strong performances in their home series against Australia.

Player of the Match with 87 (47) and 2/16 (3) in the second of the two T20Is to count in the latest update, Livingstone was also a standout in the first fixture, taking 3/22 (3) and making 37 (27) in spite of a defeat.

The run meant a jump of seven spots to the top of the list, with his new rating of 253 unsurprisingly a career high. He enjoys a 42-point lead over Marcus Stoinis (211 rating) in second spot, with Zimbabwe's Sikandar Raza (208 rating) and Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan (206 rating) following the Australian.

Livingstone too made a 17-spot jump to 33rd in the Batting Rankings, though it was Australia's Josh Inglis who made perhaps the most noteworthy jump in the list, jumping into the top ten thanks to scores of 37 (27) and 42 (26) in the same series. Travis Head solidified his No.1 spot thanks to scores of 31 (14) and and 59 (23), while Matthew Short entered the top 100 with a 44-spot jump.

On the bowling side, Adam Zampa's jump over Anrich Nortje now means that spinners now make up the entirety of the top six in the T20I Bowling Rankings.

Zampa (662 rating) is just one rating point behind Sri Lanka's Wanindu Hasaranga in fifth, though remains some way behind England's Adil Rashid in first (721 rating), who claimed a wicket in both outings of the England/Australia series.

There were also a number of shuffles in the Men's ODI Rankings, with two Cricket World Cup League 2 tri-series underway in Canada and Namibia.

Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus gained a spot in the All-Rounder rankings, up to fifth (242 rating) after taking 2/34 and making 27 against the USA on home soil, while USA captain Monak Patel made a climb into the top 50 (46th) with a half-century in the same match.

Seismic top-end moves made in latest Rankings update

Rishabh Pant makes a re-entry in the top ten Test batting rankings, while Travis Head, Prabath Jayasuriya and a pair of Afghan stars make noteworthy moves.

Top 10 rankings lists across Test and ODIs saw a shake-up as a number of the world's best players thrived in the last week of international action.

Making his Test return, Rishabh Pant re-enters the Test batting rankings at sixth, off the back of a century in the second innings of India's victory over Bangladesh in Chennai.

Bettering Pant's 731 rating points is compatriot Yashasvi Jaiswal (751), who makes a move up to fifth in large part thanks to a half-century in the first innings of the Test match. Rohit Sharma meanwhile keeps a top ten spot, though moved down five places with two scores of under double figures (716 rating points).

It was the Test action in Galle that brought about top 10 Bowling Rankings shifts, with Sri Lanka's Prabath Jayasuriya solidifying his reputation as one of the game's best spinners, moving five spots into eighth after a nine-wicket match against New Zealand.

Jayasuriya (743) is the highest-ranked player representing Sri Lanka across the three disciplines, moving past Asitha Fernando, who slid down two spots to 13th (700). Kamindu Mendis, who moved up three spots to 16th in the batting rankings and Dhananjaya de Silva, who climbed five spots to 18th on the All-Rounder Rankings (168) were other movers over note in the victory.

Two blazing white-ball batters meanwhile leapt into the top 10 in the ODI Batting rankings thanks to quick-fire hundreds in action across UAE and England.

Young Afghan star Rahmanullah Gurbaz continued his dream career start in ODI cricket, hitting his seventh century in the format before his 23rd birthday, and moving 10 spots in the process up to eighth (692). This was the first-ever occasion that an Afghanistan batter had reached the top 10 positions of the ICC Men's ODI Batting Ranking. The previous best performer from the Asian country in the ODI Batting Rankings was Ibrahim Zadran, who had reached the 12th rank.

The youngster edged Travis Head, who moved seven spots to ninth (684) in large part thanks to his 154* (129) in the first of five ODIs against rivals England.

Afghan leg-spinner Rashid Khan joined Rahmanullah in the rankings headlines, moving eight spots to third (668) in the ODI Bowling Rankings, claiming seven wickets across the team's two victories against South Africa in UAE.

The contributions of the pair helped Afghanistan to an ODI series win over the Proteas, their first against a top five-ranked opposition in their history.

India quick regains No.1 ranking as Jaiswal, Kohli make big jump

A new No.1 ranked Test bowler and some big gains for India's batting group on the latest rankings update.

There has been a reshuffle at the top of the ICC Men's Test Player Rankings with India pacer Jasprit Bumrah re-claiming his position as the No.1 ranked bowler.

Bumrah overtakes teammate Ravichandran Ashwin and claims the premier position for just the second time on the back of his six scalps for the match during India's recent seven-wicket triumph over Bangladesh in Kanpur.

Ashwin claimed five wickets of his own during that match and is only one point behind Bumrah's rating of 870 points, while Bangladesh will be buoyed by the improvements made from Mehidy Hasan (up four spots to 18th) and veteran spinner Shakib Al Hasan (up five places to 28th).

Sri Lanka spinner Prabath Jayasuriya gained a new career-high rating as he rose one place to equal seventh on the Test bowling ranks on the back of his Player of the Series exploits against New Zealand, but this week's rankings update belongs to India following their series sweep over Bangladesh that puts them in the box seat of reaching next year's ICC World Test Championship final.

India moved further clear at the top of the World Test Championship standings courtesy of their victory over Bangladesh and are well placed to earn a spot in a third consecutive final.

Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was adjudged Player of the Match during the rain affected Test against Bangladesh and the left-hander reached a new career-high rating when jumping two places to third on the updated Test batter rankings as a result of his scores of 72 and 51 from the clash.

It means Jaiswal only has England's Joe Root and New Zealand's Kane Williamson ahead of him on the updated rankings for Test batters, while teammate Virat Kohli is back inside the top 10 after he gained six places to move to sixth overall following scores of 47 and 29* against Bangladesh.

In-form Sri Lanka right-hander Kamindu Mendis is another player on the move, with the 26-year-old improving five places to 11th and reaching a new career-high rating after he scored another century in the second Test of his side's recent series with New Zealand.

Compatriots Dinesh Chandimal (up six spots to 20th) and Angelo Mathews (up four places to 23rd) also gain ground on the list for Test batters, while Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan (up two places to fifth) is the big mover on the Test all-rounder rankings as India's Ravindra Jadeja maintained his healthy lead on top.

There was also some changes on the latest white-ball rankings, with Australia's Steve Smith gaining one place to move to 20th on the list for ODI batters following the completion of his side's series against England.

England duo Harry Brook (up 73 spots to 50th) and Ben Duckett (up 30 places to 54th) reached new career-high ratings for batters, while teammates Adil Rashid (up four rungs to 24th) and Jofra Archer (up 16 spots to 40th) were the big improves on the list for ODI bowlers.

On the latest T20I rankings, South Africa dasher Reeza Hendricks gains five rungs to improve to 11th for batters, while Nepal star Dipendra Singh Airee gains a new career-high rating on the list for all-rounders as he moves up four spots to second.

India trio rise rankings following impressive Bangladesh victory

A big boost on the rankings for India's white-ball stars after an easy victory over Bangladesh in the opening match of their series.

A trio of India players have been the big movers on the latest ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings following strong performances in the opening match of their side's series with Bangladesh.

India cruised to a 49-run victory over their Asian rivals in Gwalior, with Arshdeep Singh and Varun Chakravarthy combining for six wickets and all-rounder Hardik Pandya the main architect with the bat courtesy of a quickfire 39* during the run chase.

Pandya’s 16-ball knock featured five fours and two massive sizes and helped the all-rounder climb seven places to 60th overall on the latest T20I rankings for batters behind No.1 ranked Australian Travis Head.

He also claimed a wicket with the ball and moves up four places to third overall on the latest rankings for T20I all-rounders and closes in on England's Liam Livingstone (first) and Nepal's Dipendra Singh Airee (second) as a result.

Arshdeep is also a big winner in the latest rankings update, with the left-arm pacer rising eight places to equal eighth on the updated list for T20I bowlers and reaching a new career-high rating following his three-wicket haul against Bangladesh.

Teammate Washington Sundar gains four places to move to 35th on the same list, with experienced spinner Adil Rashid still holding on to the No.1 ranking following the completion of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in June and England's series with Australia at home last month.

Adil Rashid bowls an extraordinary spell of 2/13 in four overs against USA to win the POTM award.

There are also some small changes on the latest ODI Player Rankings, following the completion of the three-match series between South Africa and Ireland in Abu Dhabi.

The Proteas won the series 2-1, but it was a trio of Irish players that were the biggest movers on the rankings update this week following their 69-run triumph in the final match of the series.

Curtis Campher gains two places to improve to 62nd on the latest ODI rankings for batters after a solid innings of 34 in that contest, while Craig Young (up 12 places to 44th) and Graham Hume (up 23 spots to 47th) make ground on the updated list for ODI bowlers after they each claimed three wickets against South Africa.

More accolades for the former England captain after his superb double-century against Pakistan in Multan.

England star Joe Root has further strengthened his standing as one of the best players of all-time by reaching a new career-high rating on the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings.

Root made his highest Test score when contributing 262 during England's empathic victory over Pakistan in the first Test in Multan and went further clear at the top of the rankings for Test batters as a result as his rating increased to a total of 932 points.

It betters Root's previous highest mark of 923 rating points and only 16 players have reached a mark higher than the England right-hander in the history of Test cricket.

Brook and Root put on a record-breaking 454 runs for the fourth wicket during that one-sided contest with Pakistan and the pair were duly rewarded on the latest rankings update as a result.

Teammate Ben Duckett, who scored 84 during England's only innings in Multan, rises five places to move to 14th on the list for Test batters, while Pakistan will be buoyed by the fact Salman Agha (up 11 places to 22nd) and skipper Shan Masood (up 12 spots to equal 51st) also made some ground.

Pant overtakes Kohli on rankings as Pakistan usher in new top batter

Plenty of change near the top of the Test batter rankings following victories for New Zealand and Pakistan during the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.

Rishabh Pant's successful return to Test cricket has gained further traction as the India star made good ground on the latest ICC Men's Test Batter Rankings even as Salman Agha emerged as Pakistan's newest hope.

Pant managed scores of 20 and 99 against New Zealand in just his third Test match back from a serious car accident and those efforts saw the left-hander gain three places and overtake teammate Virat Kohli and move up to sixth place on the latest rankings for Test batters.

England star Joe Root maintains a healthy lead at the top of the Test batter rankings, with trio Yashasvi Jaiswal (fourth), Pant (sixth) and Kohli (equal eighth) the only players from India inside the top 10 of a tightly contested category.

Root's compatriot Ben Duckett is on the verge of breaking inside the top 10 after he moved up three places to equal 11th on the list for Test batters with a knock of 114 against Pakistan, while Salman gains eight places to move to 14th with a new career-high rating following scores of 31 and 63 from the same match.

It means Salman has made it past 50 in three of his last four Test innings and the 30-year-old is now the highest rated Test batter from Pakistan having overtaken teammates Babar Azam (equal 19th), Mohammad Rizwan (21st) and Saud Shakeel (27th) courtesy of his recent heroics.

New Zealand duo Rachin Ravindra (up 36 places to 18th) and Devon Conway (up 12 spots to 36th) also make good ground on the latest list for Test batters, while teammate Matt Henry (up two rungs to ninth with a new career-high rating) is the big winner on the updated rankings for Test bowlers.

Henry picked up eight wickets during the Black Caps' drought-breaking eight-wicket victory over India in Bengaluru, while teammate Will O'Rourke (up two spots to 39th) is also rewarded for his seven scalps from the same match.

Pakistan spinner Noman Ali is re-instated at 17th on the rankings for Test bowlers following his 11 wickets across two innings against England, while teammate Sajid Khan gains 22 places to move to 50th after he was adjudged Player of the Match in the same contest.

There are also some changes on the latest rankings for both white-ball categories, with players from Sri Lanka the biggest winners for strong performances from their ongoing series against the West Indies.

Sri Lanka duo Pathum Nissanka (up four places to eighth) and Kusal Mendis (up six spots to 12th) gain ground on the latest rankings for T20I batters, while teammate Maheesh Theekshana improves two rungs to jump to third on the updated list for T20I bowlers.

Compatriot Wanindu Hasaranga is also a mover, with the right-armer gaining one place to move to sixth on both the T20I rankings for bowlers and all-rounders following a spell of 2/24 in the final match of the three-game series against the West Indies in Dambulla.

Hasaranga gains two places to move to 18th on the list for ODI bowlers following his two-wicket effort in the opening game of the ODI series with the West Indies, while teammate Charith Asalanka (up two spots to 12th) is the biggest winner on the rankings for ODI batters.

Rabada back as No. 1 in ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings

South Africa fast bowler Kagiso Rabada has regained the number position in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after finishing with nine wickets in the first match of their ICC World Test Championship series against Bangladesh in Mirpur.

The 29-year-old, who became the fastest to 300 Test wickets on the first day of the Test match, has overtaken Ravichandran Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah and Josh Hazlewood to take the top spot after helping his team win the match by seven wickets.

Rabada had first topped the rankings after the Newlands Test against India in January 2018 and held the top spot for much of the next 12 months.

In the latest weekly rankings update that also considers performances in the third Test between Pakistan and England in Rawalpindi and the second Test between India and New Zealand in Pune, left-arm spinners Noman Ali of Pakistan and Mitchel Santner of New Zealand have also made huge progress.

Noman is in the top 10 for the first time, moving up eight slots to ninth position after finishing with nine wickets in Rawalpindi as Pakistan won by nine wickets to clinch the WTC series 2-1.

Santner, whose haul of 13 for 157 in the 113-run victory in Pune is the third-best by a Kiwi bowler after Richard Hadlee’s 15 for 123 and Ajaz Patel’s 14 for 224, has progressed 30 slots to 44th position, five places off his career-best 39th position attained in January 2017.

Other bowlers to advance include Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam (up three places to 18th), England’s Gus Atkinson (up two places to 22nd), Pakistan’s Sajid Khan (up 12 places to 38th) and South Africa’s Wiaan Mulder (up nine places to 50th).

In the batting rankings, India opener Yashaswi Jaiswal is back at number three after scores of 30 and 77 while other left-handers Saud Shakeel of Pakistan and Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand have moved into the top 10 for the first time in their careers.

Shakeel has advanced 20 slots to reach seventh position after his knock of 134 won him the Player of the Match award while Ravindra is up eight places to 10th with a useful half-century in the first innings.

New Zealanders Devon Conway (up eight places to 28th), Tom Latham (up six places to 34th) and Glenn Phillips (up 16 places to 45th), England’s Jamie Smith (up seven places to 37th), Pakistan captain Shan Masood (up five places to 57th) and Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz (up nine places to 63rd) are other significant gainers in the batting rankings.

Mehidy has also moved up two places to third position in the all-rounders’ list, while India’s Washington Sundar has re-entered the rankings in 53rd position among bowlers, 84th among batters and 25th among all-rounders.

After the recent Test results, New Zealand are fourth in the ICC World Test Championship table with 50 percentage points and the potential of going up to 64.29 with one more match remaining in the series against India and three home Tests against England.

India lead with 62.82 percentage points but have a challenging five-match away series against Australia, who are a close second at the moment with Sri Lanka in third position.

Rankings have basically become a reflection of who's played more cricket recently. Over Dec-Jan Aus and Ind players will slide to the top due to their series while Bang and Pak players slide off due to lack of Test cricket, etc.

I wonder if there's a way to increase the relevance of long-term performance on rankings, e.g., rolling 24-month averages, perhaps?
