Bumrah records highest points tally by an Indian bowler in ICC Test Rankings

Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has recorded the highest ever rating points tally achieved by an Indian bowler as he consolidated his position at the top of the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after another successful Test in Melbourne that saw him finish with a nine-wicket match haul.

Bumrah, who is shortlisted for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year award for the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy and also the ICC Men's Test Cricketer of the Year award, has moved up from his previous tied high of 904 with Ravichandran Ashwin. His tally of 907 rating points now places him joint-17th in the all-time list with yesteryear spinner Derek Underwood of England.

The list is led by England seamers Sydney Barnes (932) and George Lohmann (931) who played more than a century ago while Imran Khan (922) and Muttiah Muralidaran (920) are third and fourth.

Cummins advances in all three lists: Australia captain Pat Cummins, who is joint-fifth with Glenn McGrath in that list with 914 rating points, is another one to gain in the latest rankings update after helping win the fourth match of their ICC World Test Championship series against India in Melbourne.

The first weekly update of 2025 that also considers performances in the first Test between South Africa and Pakistan in Centurion and the first Test between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan in Bulawayo, sees Cummins achieve a career-best third position in the all-rounders’ list, bettering the fifth position he attained in August 2019.

His scores of 49 and 41 have also lifted him 10 places to 97th among batters and his three wickets in each innings have helped him inch up one place to third position among bowlers with 837 rating points.

South Africa’s Marco Jansen has attained a career-best fifth position after his second innings haul of six for 52 helped him past 800 rating points for the first time while Pakistan seamer Mohammad Abbas has re-entered the rankings in 23rd position after taking seven wickets in the match.

Naseem Shah (up six places to 33rd) and Dane Paterson (up eight places to 46th) have progressed because of their performances in Centurion while Scott Boland of Australia (up seven places to 38th) and Brian Bennett of Zimbabwe (up 48 places to 94th) have also moved up the bowling rankings.

Saud Shakeel achieves career-best ranking: In the Test Batting Rankings, Pakistan’s left-hander Saud Shakeel is up to a career-best sixth position after scoring 84 in the second innings. Steve Smith has advanced three places to seventh after scoring 140 while India opener Yashaswi Jaiswal’s scores of 84 and 82 have helped him reach fourth position with a career-best 854 rating points.

South Africa opener Aiden Markram’s Player of the Match effort of 89 and 37 in Centurion places him in 16th position after gaining eight places while India’s Nitish Kumar Reddy is up 20 places to 53rd after his valiant century at number eight.

Sean Williams’ innings of 154 has taken him up to 19th place with 653 points – the highest by a batter form Zimbabwe since Brendan Taylor reached 684 back in 2014.

Afghanistan pair in the limelight: The Afghanistan pair of Rahmat Shah (234) and Hashmatullah Shahidi (246) both surpassed their country’s previous highest individual score and were rewarded with gains to 52nd and 57th positions, respectively.

In the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, Pathun Nissanka of Sri Lanka is up three places to sixth among batters while Mitchell Santner of New Zealand (up five places to ninth) and Matheesha Pathirana (up eight places to 26th) have moved up the bowling rankings after the first two matches of their T20I series which hosts New Zealand lead 2-0.

Border-Gavaskar finale and South Africa’s whitewash of Pakistan spark major ICC rankings changes

The latest update in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings saw Australia and South Africa’s players emerge as the biggest winners.

The past week was brimming with Test cricket action, with three series reaching their conclusion: the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia, South Africa's clash against Pakistan and Zimbabwe's tussle with Afghanistan.

One of the standout performers in the latest ICC Men's Rankings is Scott Boland, the Player of the Match in the Sydney Test. Boland made a remarkable leap of 29 places to break into the top 10, sharing the ninth spot with India's spinner Ravindra Jadeja.

Boland's stellar performance in the Sydney Test, where he claimed a 10-wicket haul (4/31 and 6/45), proved too much for the Indian batters on a lively Sydney pitch. His efforts were instrumental in Australia's triumph, ending a decade-long wait to reclaim the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Australia's skipper, Pat Cummins, also made gains in the rankings, climbing to No.2 after picking up five wickets in the final match. He is now closing in on Jasprit Bumrah, who remains at the top with a career-best rating of 908.

Bumrah had already made history ahead of the final Test by recording the highest-ever ICC Rankings rating for an Indian bowler at 907 points. He improved that tally by one point after taking two wickets in the first innings. However, a back spasm ruled him out of bowling in the second innings, restricting his role to just batting.

In a low-scoring fifth Test, only two half-centuries were recorded. Among the standout performances, Rishabh Pant's blistering 33-ball 61 in the second innings caught the eye. His explosive knock earned him a three-spot rise in the batting rankings, moving him to No.9.

In contrast, the second Test between South Africa and Pakistan proved to be a haven for batters. Leading the charge was Player of the Match Ryan Rickelton, whose magnificent double century (259) propelled him 48 places up the batting rankings to No.55.

Captain Temba Bavuma extended his rich vein of form, scoring a vital century in the first innings to climb three spots to No.6, also achieving a career-best rating of 769. Meanwhile, Kyle Verreynne's impressive century saw him rise four places to secure the No.25 spot.

Pakistan endured a dismal first innings with the bat, managing only 194 in response to South Africa's massive 615. However, they showed resilience after being asked to follow on by the Proteas.

Babar Azam stood out with half-centuries in both innings, earning a five-spot climb to 12th in the batting rankings. Captain Shan Masood led from the front in the second innings with a valiant 145, which took him 12 places up to 45th.

In the bowling rankings, Kagiso Rabada's six-wicket haul in the match saw him climb one spot to No.3, now trailing only Cummins and Bumrah.

Meanwhile, in the all-rounder rankings, Marco Jansen made significant strides, moving up two places to secure the second spot. His impactful performance in the final Test against Pakistan, which included a brisk half-century and three wickets, brought him closer to leader Ravindra Jadeja.

Afghanistan’s historic series win over Zimbabwe in the second Test saw several players make significant moves in the rankings. Centurions Rahmat Shah, who climbed 26 places to No.26, and debutant Ismat Alam, who entered the rankings at joint No.82, were the standout performers for the visitors in the batting charts.

For Zimbabwe, Craig Ervine (75 and 53 no.) rose 10 spots to joint No.37, while Sikandar Raza (61 and 38) re-entered the batting rankings at No.91 after playing his first Test since 2021.

Rashid Khan, also returning to Test cricket after a hiatus since 2021, was pivotal in Afghanistan’s victory. He delivered a match-winning performance with the ball, recording career-best figures of 7/66 in the second innings, alongside a four-wicket haul in the first. With a match tally of 11 wickets, the leg-spinner re-entered the bowling rankings at No.54.

In white-ball cricket, the final T20I and the first ODI between New Zealand and Sri Lanka brought notable changes in the rankings.

Kusal Perera's explosive 46-ball 101 in the last T20I secured a consolation win for Sri Lanka and earned him a massive 26-spot jump to No.10 in the batting rankings.

From New Zealand's victory in the opening ODI, Matt Henry climbed to 12th among bowlers after his four-wicket haul, while Will Young's unbeaten 90 saw him rise to joint 13th in the batting rankings.

Theekshana attains career-best third position in ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings

Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana has attained a career-best third position in the ICC Men’s ODI Bowling Rankings after grabbing seven wickets in the last two matches of their three-ODI series against New Zealand that the home side won 2-1.

Theekshana gained four slots after finishing with four for 44 in the second match in Hamilton that New Zealand won by 113 runs and three for 35 in the third match in Auckland that Sri Lanka won by 140 runs.

Theekshana’s 663 rating points are just six less than top-ranked Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan (669) in a pack of four at the top who are within seven points of each other. Indian Kuldeep Yadav is second with 665 points while Pakistan’s Shaheen Shah Afridi follows the three spinners with 662 points.

New Zealand seam bowler Matt Henry returns to the top 10 after winning the Player of the Series award for taking nine wickets in the series while left-arm spinner Mitchell Santner is up two places to 15th with three wickets in the last two matches.

Sri Lanka fast bowler Asitha Fernando’s Player of the Match effort of three for 26 in the final match has lifted him into the top 100.

In the Men’s ODI Batting Rankings, left-hander Rachin Ravindra of New Zealand is up 11 places to 39th after scoring 79 in the second match and Janith Liyanage has progressed 11 places to 57th after getting a half-century in the final match. New Zealand’s Mark Chapman moves into the top 100 after scores of 62 and 81.

Pakistan pair surge in ICC Men's Test ICC Rankings

Two Pakistan stars have made it into the top 10 rankings of their respective disciplines following their recent outings against West Indies.

Batter Saud Shakeel and bowler Noman Ali are Pakistan's big movers in the newly updated ICC Men's Test Rankings.

The pair set up Pakistan's 127-run win over the West Indies, which has the hosts ahead 1-0 in the two-Test series.

Saud Shakeel (753 ratings points) scored 84 in the first innings, climbing three Rankings spots to 8th on the batting list, moving above Steve Smith (746, 9th) and Rishabh Pant (739, 10th).

England duo of Joe Root (895) and Harry Brook (876) remain the world's top two Test batters, ahead of New Zealand veteran Kane Williamson (867).

Jasprit Bumrah continues to dominate as the undisputed No. 1 bowler with a career-best points tally of 908. Australia's Pat Cummins (841) and South Africa's Kagiso Rabada (837) round out the top three.

Meanwhile, Noman Ali (761) breaks into the top 10 after an impressive six-wicket haul in the first Test against the West Indies in Multan.

Other notable movers include Pakistan's Sajid Khan (621), who climbed 18 places to No. 23 after his standout performance in Pakistan's victory in the first Test. Jomel Warrican (521) snapped a 10-wicket haul in the same match, and jumped 12 spots to No. 41 in the rankings.

There has been no movement to the top 10 all-rounders in the Test format, with India's Ravindra Jadeja (400 ratings points) retaining top spot ahead of South Africa's Marco Jansen (294) and Bangladesh's Mehidy Hasan (263).

It is great to see Saud and Noman in the top 10 of the ICC rankings. Both deserved their spot and I expect them to improve it further after the second test against West Indies.

Noman, Warrican attain career bests in ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings

Adil Rashid regains No.1 spot in Men’s T20I bowling rankings; Varma in line to become the youngest ever top-ranked batter in the format

Left-arm spinners Noman Ali and Jomel Warrican have attained career best positions in the ICC Men’s Test Bowling Rankings after outstanding performances in the second Test between Pakistan and the West Indies in Multan.

Noman, who became the first Pakistani spinner to take a Test hat-trick in a match haul of 10 for 121, has gained four spots to reach fifth position with 806 rating points. He is only the 12th Pakistani bowler to go past the 800-point mark in Tests and the only one from his country in the top 20 right now.

Warrican won the Player of the Match award after finishing with nine for 70 in the second Test, moving up 16 places to 25th position. He has progressed a total of 28 places in the two Tests with a return of 19 wickets, that also won him the Player of the Series award.

Kemar Roach (up one place to 18th) and Gudakesh Motie (up six places to 58th) are the West Indian bowlers to move up the rankings while Sajid Khan (up two places to 21st) and Abrar Ahmed (up two places to 50th) are the Pakistan players to move up the list.

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite’s second innings half-century at the top of the order that contributed in a 120-run win, has lifted him eight places to 44th position while Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has moved back towards the top10, advancing from 17th to 15th position.

Varma eyes Babar’s record: In the Men’s T20I Rankings, Tilak Varma has reached a career-best second position after an unbeaten 71 in the second T20I against England. His 832 rating points are the fourth-best by an India batter in the format after Suryakumar Yadav, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul.

Varma, who is 22 years and 82 days at the time of reaching second position, is only 23 rating points behind top-ranked Travis Ahead and with a good chance of becoming the youngest to top the T20I batting rankings. The mark is currently held by Babar Azam, who was 23 years, 105 days when he went top for the first time in January 2018.

In the bowling rankings, England’s wrist-spinner Adil Rashid has ended Akeal Hosein’s 44-day stay at the top after taking one for 14 and one for 15 in the second and third matches of the series, completing his four overs each time to help England narrow the lead to 2-1.

It is the second time the England leggie has topped the table, having occupied top spot for a year from December 2023 to December 2024.

Liam Livingstone (up five places to 32nd) and Abhishek Sharma (up 59 places to 40th) are other batters to gain after the series while Varun Chakravarthy (up 25 places to a career-best fifth position), Joffra Archer (up 13 places to sixth), Axar Patel (up five places to 11th) and Hardik Pandya (up eight places to 43rd) have moved up the bowling list.

India duo close in on top ranking following T20I heroics against England

A major shake-up at the top of the latest T20I rankings as a West Indies spinner regains his position as the No.1 bowler, while Australia's Test stars make big gains up the Test ranks.

A pair of India's in-form white-ball players have been rewarded for strong performances during the recent home series against England by making giant strides on the latest ICC Men's T20I Player Rankings.

Abhishek Sharma produced the best innings of his fledging international career when he smashed a quickfire 135 in the fifth and final match of the series in Mumbai and shot up a whopping 38 places on the T20I rankings for batters as a result.

Abhishek's innings came from just 54 deliveries and was the highest individual innings made by an Indian men's player in the shortest format. As a result, the 24-year-old rose to second in the latest rankings for batters.

Australia star Travis Head remains out in front of the rankings for T20I batters, but Abhishek is just 26 rating points behind him following his record-breaking efforts at Wankhede as a trio of players from India hover inside the top five.

Tilak Varma is third and skipper Suryakumar Yadav is fifth and all within striking distance of Head, while India teammates Hardik Pandya (up five rungs to equal 51st) and Shivam Dube (up 38 spots to 58th) also make big moves up the rankings for T20I batters following some good scores against England.

It's a similar story on the latest rankings for T20I bowlers, with spinner Varun Chakravarthy moving up three places to equal second on the back of his 14 wickets and Player of the Series effort against Jos Buttler's side.

Teammate Ravi Bishnoi (up four places to sixth) also climbs the list for T20I bowlers following five wickets for the series against England. There is yet another change at the top as West Indies spinner Akeal Hosein re-claims his spot as the No.1 bowler after he lost the mantle to Adil Rashid a week earlier.

The latest Test rankings see a host of Australian players gain ground and that should come as no surprise given their impressive effort in defeating Sri Lanka by an innings and 242 runs during the recent first Test in Galle.

Stand-in skipper Steve Smith gains three places to move up to fifth on the updated rankings for Test batters following his 35th Test century, while opener Usman Khawaja gains six places to rise to 11th after contributing his highest Test score of 232 during the romp.

It's almost a carbon copy job in the rankings for Test bowlers, with veteran spinner Nathan Lyon improving two spots to jump to sixth overall and pacer Mitchell Starc up two places to 12th following their efforts in Galle.

Same world where Taskin Ahmed is ranked 15th and Bumrah ranked 42nd. It is about how many matches you play for your country without missing.

Two new players claim No.1 ranking ahead of Champions Trophy

Massive changes at the top of the ODI rankings, with a new No.1 batter and bowler crowned just prior to the start of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

A pair of international stars have risen to the top and claimed the No.1 spot on the latest ICC Men's Player Rankings ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

India right-hander Shubman Gill overtakes former Pakistan captain Babar Azam to become the top ranked ODI batter in the world, while Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana climbs atop the Men's ODI Bowling Rankings - taking the premier position for the first time by surpassing Afghanistan tweaker Rashid Khan.

It's a major shake-up at the top of the rankings just prior to the start of the Champions Trophy and leaves an interesting sub-plot to what will transpire over the coming weeks during the eight-team tournament in Pakistan and Dubai.

This is the second time Gill has held the No.1 ranking in ODI cricket, with the India batter having also gone past Babar to claim top spot midway through the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup in 2023.

Gill has been in excellent form of late, with his century against England in Ahmedabad during the third ODI of the recently concluded series enough to catapult the 25-year-old to the top of the rankings.

Babar drops to second place and 23 rating points behind the new No.1, while India skipper Rohit Sharma remains in the third spot and 45 rating points behind his fellow Indian opener.

New Zealand's Daryl Mitchell (up two places to fifth) and Sri Lanka dasher Charith Asalanka (up eight spots to eighth) also make ground inside the top 10, while Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan climbs six places to 15th with a new career-high rating.

New Zealand duo Devon Conway (up five rungs to 35th) and Glenn Phillips (up six places to 41st) also make good ground on the list for ODI batters this week, with in-form Pakistan right-hander Salman Agha jumping 24 spots to 48th on the back of good displays in the recent Tri-Nation series.

Things are just as tight in the latest Men's ODI Bowling Rankings, with Theekshana gaining top spot from Rashid on the back of an excellent series on home soil against Australia.

While Sri Lanka won't be featuring at the Champions Trophy, Theekshana earned the top spot following his exploits against the Aussies that included an excellent four-wicket haul in the opening match of that series in Colombo.

Meanwhile, Afghan spin wizard Rashid drops to second and will be keen to regain the No.1 spot as he trails his Sri Lankan counterpart by just 11 rating points, while a trio of spinners in India's squad Kuldeep Yadav (up one place to fourth), South Africa's Keshav Maharaj (re-enters the rankings in sixth) and New Zealand's Mitchell Santner (up four rungs to seventh) are all inside the top 10 after making ground this week.

Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi maintains a lead at the top of the rankings for ODI all-rounders, with Santner gaining one place inside the top 10 to move up to sixth overall.

Kohli's heroics against Pakistan rewarded as India continue rankings dominance

Three Indian players inside the top 10 for ODI batters, while stars at the ongoing Champions Trophy tournament also make gains in the ICC Rankings.

India superstar Virat Kohli has moved back inside the top five on the list for ODI batters following the latest update to the ICC Men's Player Rankings.

Kohli scored his 51st ODI century in a superb display of batting against Pakistan at the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai on Sunday and gains one place on the latest rankings for ODI batters to move back into fifth spot overall.

It means three players from India occupy spots inside the top five, with opener Shubman Gill (first) and skipper Rohit Sharma (third) maintaining their places at the top of the batting rankings courtesy of their own decent hauls at the ongoing Champions Trophy event.

Gill actually increases his lead at the top of the rankings to 47 rating points, with former Pakistan captain Babar Azam still in second despite a lean trot at the Champions Trophy so far.

Kohli is the only player at the Champions Trophy to make any ground inside the top 10 on the list for ODI batters, but there are a host of stars on the outskirts of the top 10 to make inroads on the latest rankings that were updated by the ICC on Wednesday.

Will Young (up eight spots to 14th), Ben Duckett (up 27 places to equal 17th) and Rachin Ravindra (up 18 rungs to 24th) are among the biggest movers after centuries at the tournament, while India right-hander KL Rahul (up two places to 15th) and South Africa dasher Rassie van der Dussen (up three places to 16th) also make some gains.

Rachin Ravindra shines with memorable Champions Trophy ton | BAN v NZ | Champions Trophy 2025

Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana remains at the top of the rankings for ODI bowlers despite the fact his side are not at the Champions Trophy, with Afghanistan tweaker Rashid Khan still his closest challenger in second place.

South Africa spinner Keshav Maharaj (up one place to equal fourth), New Zealand quick Matt Henry (up two rungs to sixth) and Australia veteran Adam Zampa (up two spots to 10th) all make ground inside the top 10 for ODI bowlers, while Proteas pacer Kagiso Rabada (up four spots to 16th) and Kiwi Michael Bracewell (up 31 places to 26th) are among the biggest movers elsewhere.

Bracewell also gains some ground on the latest list for ODI all-rounders, with the 34-year-old moving up 26 places to 11th following his four-wicket haul against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi at the Champions Trophy.

New Zealand teammate Ravindra (up six places to 15th) also makes some movement in this category, with Afghanistan veteran Mohammad Nabi still leading the way.

Changing of the guard complete as Afghanistan star claims top ODI ranking

Afghanistan star Azmatullah Omarzai has completed his climb to the top of the ICC’s all-rounder rankings. Here are the notable rises, across all disciplines.

The emergence of world class talent Azmatullah Omarzai has been fast and furious.

The Afghanistan all-rounder, who will turn just 25 later this month, is now in unchartered waters, moving to the top of an ICC Rankings list.

Following a blistering ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, which included a maiden five-wicket haul against England and a 50 against Australia, Omarzai has become the world’s top-ranked all-rounder.

He also dethroned teammate Mohammad Nabi in the process, who drops to second on the list.

The right-armer rose two spots and claimed a career-high rating points total of 296.

India’s Axar Patel was the other big all-rounder rise, moving up 17 spots to 13th and registering a career-high 194 ratings points.

Omarzai was also one of the key climbers in the latest ODI batter rankings, off the back of his 126 total runs in the Champions Trophy. He moved up 12 spots to 24th (598 rating points).

Afghanistan’s Champions Trophy campaign allowed a number of their stars to blossom, as Ibrahim Zadran also made a bold climb up the batting rankings. The 23-year-old smashed 177 runs against England in Lahore, moving up 13 spots into 10th (676 rating points).

Australia’s Steve Smith also collected a good dose of rating points, climbing six spots to 16th after his batting contributions at the Champions Trophy.

Another high profile veteran, Kiwi Kane Williamson, also made a move, climbing eight spots to 29th.

India opener Shubman Gill remains in No.1 ranking for ODI batters, with teammate Virat Kohli moving up to fourth following his Player of the Match heroics against Australia in the Champions Trophy semi-final in Dubai.

New Zealander Matt Henry has been rewarded for his superb tournament, rising three spots and onto the podium of the bowling rankings.

Henry is now in third (649 rating points), behind Sri Lankan spinner Maheesh Theekshana (first) and South Africa tweaker Keshav Maharaj (second).

The resurgence of Indian seamer Mohammed Shami at the Champions Trophy sees him move up three spots to 11th (609 ratings points), while South Africa’s Marco Jansen (up nine spots to 18th) and England’s Jofra Archer (up 13 spots to equal-19th).
