ICC tournament knockout matches records across formats: Which team is the most clutch here?

Got the idea from @Aang_The_last_airbender earlier and decided to analyse the most clutch teams in knockouts.

A bit surprised by our knockout record, would have expected us to be better than England and SL atleast. It seems WI have the wood on us, we have a 1-4 record vs WI in knockout matches:

Wow, SL has not reached a Knockout since 2015, WI since 2016.
Pakistan has missed knockouts in last 3 tournaments in a row now, not counting WTC.

Australia, WI, India are our bogey teams in knockouts. We are 2-12 against them in knockout matches!

We are better than England and SL by default as we have more trophies. Congrats for being 3rd in a sport played by 6 countries.
England and Sri Lanka also have 3 trophies. India has more trophies than WI. Work on your knowledge instead of engaging in unproductive activities like trolling.

So Australia, West Indies, India and SL have been the most clutch sides in ICC history. Interesting.

You are the one who came and made a pseudo aggressive comment when everyone was being courteous. England has only 1 ODI trophy, Pakistan has 2. I rate ODI>T20, Ryan.

SL is the biggest surprise. As a Pak fan, SL were always our bunnies big match or otherwise. With India we had the wood over them in bilaterals but they got us back in ICC tournaments.

WI and SL have faded .. i think apart from India and Australia, SA is going to be the true clutch team. They just need one solid win to overcome the mental block.

Having declined is fine. Point is , when they have been strong enough to make KO's , they have been good enough to convert more often than not

you botched it, bro.

Anyways, I acknowledge that my previous post was unnecessary. To prevent further derailment, I will remove myself from the conversation and allow a courteous discussion to contusion.

Most of the WI achievements are in T20 i suppose. Because i don't recall them doing well in ODI tournaments a lot.

If you use just ODIs

Australia 1
India 2
West Indies 3

If you just just T20s

West Indies 1
England 2
India 3

If you use both T20s and T20s

Australia 1
West Indies 2
India 3

Australia's record in T20 is not that great in teh knockouts.

Both Australia and India has also done very well in preliminary rounds as well where as West Indies was woefully inconsistent. They couldn't even qualify for 2023 world cup, 2022 second round world T20, 2025 CT. You shouldn't even consider WI a cricket team anymore. They have totally embarrassed their legacy

Bro the filters were quarter finals, semis and finals. What you think is not relevant here no offense.
My bad. It includes WTc which I totally forgot
I was thinking of just LoI

That makes sense.

What’s funny is nz actually had a winning record in odi world cups for a while. In ko they only met once until recently in 2023 when nz lost

Now the record is even in odi.

Still behind in t20 as we lost both group games.

I think so too. For all of their troubles they have recently been very good in ICC events across formats.

Well they have won a champions trophy before but they won at a time where comp wasn’t as good Barring the Aus side. Not many professionals a side at the. Time

Pakistan has lost a QF a SF and a Final in ICC events vs India and won just 1 final.

What's this great while facing India in finals record that Pakistan has?
Counting kiptley cup
Coca Cola cup
Pepsi cups
Sharjah cups

Btw I checked something recently. Shoaib talks about how in his days he used to bash India for fun

Record says 16 wins for pak and 12 for india when shoaib played for Pakistan

All key games were lost by pak vs India in that too lmao

Where is the dominance? Lol

He is acting like he won 20 30 games and we dint win at all haha

That tournament was basically treated as exhibition games of the 90s. Nobody took it seriously just some crappy country made to host so that the Asian bloc can become bigger. We are still paying for that stupid mistake by Dalmia.

What an embarrassing record against West Indies

The only proper thrashing we gave them was in 2011 WC

It was so satisfying to watch

How did Bharat play more knock outs than Australia. Interesting

Here is the stat from 2007 onwards for the same ICC events except it includes all group stage matches. The reason I chose 2007 as the starting point is because thats when the disastrous stint of Greg Chappell ended and MSD took over. Look who is at the top of the table. There is a reason why India is called a gun team in big tournaments.

Fun fact notice the number of Wins for the table topper and the number of matches played by BD the table topper from the bottom. Both same to same

And I have included the stats prior to 2007 in a seperate image below and you can see how we rose from the bottom half to be the big cheese now over a span of 18 years and a lot of credit for that has to go to MSD the captain cool.

Another fun fact .... even prior to 2007 we were better than Pakistan in the big games.

It's not a big difference. India have played both wtc finals and probably have reached more t20 knockouts. Australia have converted more towards the business end which is why they have won more trophies. A good metric would be to see knockout matches played to trophy count or knockout matches won to trophy count.

Wow, SL has not reached a Knockout since 2015, WI since 2016.

Correct me if I'm wrong but Pakistan also failed to beat a top ranked side correct?( full matches only, not drs)

Cause in 2023 wc I think they only beat Sri Lanka, Netherlands and NZ(via a drs, not a proper win)

Then in 2024 wc, they didn't beat anyone except Canada?

And in 2025 they didn't beat anyone either?

Damn what a crap record, especially considering they even lost to England who atm can't beat anyone.

4 wins in 3 tournaments lol, and 1 was a drs 🤣

SL lost their golden gen and has not been the same since. WI is not surprising unfortunately.
Which is what happens when players retire at their "peak", to save their personal average without spending time in transition. Both kohli and rohit swear how Sachin being on the other side helped take pressure off them and helped their transition.

Both Lara and Sanga retired at peak selfishly and both their team never recovered after that.

It’s just a phase bro.
The talent is obviously there.
They will bounce back.

Using knockout matches played per trophy won metric (lower the better):

1) Australia 4
2) India 6
3) WI 5
4) SL 8
5) Pak 9
6) SA 21
7) NZ 15
8) Bangladesh 0
9) England 9

Did we beat NZ via DRS? Who appealed?
