Absolutely clinical stuff from Williamson. Batting masterclass in a pressure situation. Finished it off too. Pakistani batsmen are you watching?

Bhai mazak kar rahe ho?Required that from sarfraz during last month on at least 2 occassions
I still rate Grant Elliot's knock better than this one 4 years ago.
Babar Azam was meant to be Kane Willaimson.
He never will be. Kuldeep Yadav will always be his nightmare.
That is why Babar cannot even tie the shoe laces of any of these top batsman. Proper stats padders him and Imam.
The fact that this innings has almost eliminated Pakistan has made it sweeter. He is a brilliant ODI batsman on a slowish wicket.
What a rubbish post. We are all angry with the team, but a true fan will never be as ecstatic as you are on Pakistan's humiliation. The fact that this innings has almost eliminated Pakistan has made it sweeter. He is a brilliant ODI batsman on a slowish wicket.
Good Inning but south Africa choked again by missing easy run out & not used Drs when he clearly Nick
Strongly disagree with your comments about ODIs only being fun on belters. This was a great game to watch. It’s all about the variety.
Babar is not anywhere near the top 4. He is good for Pakistan's standards, but has a long way to go.A true captain's knock - what a superb player he is.
I don't want to hear anyone compare Babar with Williamson, let alone the fab 4. This applies especially to Hawkeye who claims he's "one of the top 4 or 5 batsmen in ODI cricket". Pathetic insight really.
Close finishes are always interesting, be it high scoring or low scoring, but I prefer 300 par pitches rather than 250. This game was a drab for very long periods. It only came to life in the last hour or so.

Any other team expect South Africa easily defend this total on this surface but they always choked ,nothing new .

If anything, he should watch this KW innings for the perfection it really was.
South Africa did not choke. KW and CDG were just too good. Anyone who was expecting South Africa to defend this total, without getting KW out, was dreaming.Any other team expect South Africa easily defend this total on this surface but they always choked ,nothing new .

Very close to being an ODI great for Pakistan? I respect Babar, but he hasn't won us anything yet. The likes of Inzamam and Miandad are ODI greats, and Babar doesn't even come close to them.Whenever Kohli, Root, Smith or Williamson score, people start bashing Babar. They are ATGs and Babar doesn’t have to be as good as them to be a great player for Pakistan.
Our batting standards are pathetically low and Babar is already very close to being an ODI great for Pakistan. He is doing fine and there is no need to criticize him just because better batsmen are performing better than him.

You need to differentiate between choking and just being mediocre. This SA team has played bad cricket throughout the tournament. They have not choked.
Best innings in this World Cup, and it's probably gonna stay that way.

The point is KW and CDG looked in complete control, and South Africa just looked mediocre. A choke would be SA dominating proceedings and losing their heads in the end.Have you seen entire match ??? South Africa miss a easy run out chance , dropped catch & not use Drs when kane Nick
Unfair comparison. You should compare Babar with a 24 years and 247 days old Kane Williamson.
It was a good innings but nothing great about it. Grandhomme did most of the damage.

That was the excuse for Umar Akmal too when he started at 19.
Where do you see him now?
Thing is, age is just an excuse.
There is no guarantee that Babar will eclipse Williamson as he grows older.

Why not the same expectation from super duper specialist batsmen like Imam, Babar, Malik and Haris???
Age DOES matter in sports.
A batsmen's prime is usually 29-31 which KW is approaching. Babar is four years behind not only in number of days alive but also international matches played.

Williamson was playing innings like these even a few years ago. It's not like this is the first time KW has guided NZ home. Can you give me a list of matches where Babar has grabbed the bull by the horns and guided us home? I'll wait.
KW's best innings against non-minnows was his Test debut against India which ended in a draw.
That's all I came up with after a quick search which shows that he's not really known for "grabbing the bull by the horns".
His role is similar to Babar in that he plays at an okay-SR at Number 3, to anchor the innings for the lower-order to cash on; exactly what happened today as CDG decreased the RR when it was increasing.
The "youngster excuse" works best in Pakistan though.
Umar Akmal, Hasan Raza, Hasnain, Shaheen, Amir ..
I can name you a list of players who either were excused for being young, impressionable and stupid and thats why results could not happen.
Age is an excuse to sugarcoat lack of performances.
Boris Becker won the Wimbledon as a 17 year old, and Goran Ivanisevic managed it at 34 at twilight of his career.
Either you have it or you dont
I think Babar has it, but he doesnt realize it.
However, its not related to age.
Age can be used for excusing or promoting performances.
My point is that Babar now is different from KW now and it is unfair to compare the two given that their team strengths and weaknesses are vastly different.

Shakib ul Hasan has made a career in a weak Bangladesh team despite them not having a good part of his illustrious career.
Holder is MVP of West Indies despite Windies always losing games.
Again its another excuse that a player whose team is strong is more likely to succeed.

Kohli, Kane, Root and SMith in a class of their own
THen Warner, Sharma, Butler, Ross Taylor, Dhawan, Shakib
Then 3rd tier maybe Babar, Faf, Shai Hope
Not in ODIs- I would rate Sharma & Warner way above Smith in ODIs.
Strongly disagree. I have a lot of respect for Holder but how much has he really done in ODIs purely as a player. As I said above, I’m this situation we would’ve had Malik and Sarfraz come out to support Babar who both would’ve gotten out immaturely and Babar would probably not have been able to win the game at this stage of his career. Replace Babar with current Williamson in that equation and Williamson would most likely fail as well.

Williamson at 24 years of age had already played more match winning knocks than Babar Softy Azam.
I think Babar Azam should look at Kane Williamson and see him as a role-model and someone he can emulate. Williamson is a fantastic role-model for any young batsman.
Babar's batting is like Kane's, but he just needs to step up that extra level, become mentally tougher and see his team home more often.
