Azhar Ali speaking at end of Day 3

"It wasn't a fluent innings at all, it was hard to get runs on this pitch."

"Since we lost the toss, the plan was to make our first innings really count."

"I play for the team goals so I played with lots of concentration. It's really hard to focus for so long when the runs aren't coming."

"The support from the dressing room was really."

"We want to have a first-innings lead which we can utilise."

"I am pleased with my innings and where we stand right now. Still a long way to go (in the match)."

"The game is quite even right now but we still have a 40-run lead so we'd like to get some wickets and then restrict them to as less as possible."

"We have a very good quality bowling attack so we can do the damage. We need to bowl in good areas and be patient."

"We need to keep things tight. There will be partnerships but it's not easy for newcomers so we'd like to keep taking wickets and keep things tight."

"Chase and Holder are good players and they're in good touch. We have some plans for them and we just need to keep things tight."

"As a team we'd like to chase as less as possible."

"When we went for Lunch on Day 2, we felt the wicket was becoming harder to bat on. Specially, driving length balls wasn't easy. After that, we assessed the situation and decided that runs may be difficult to come by but we needed to occupy the wicket. When a partnership forms, the opposition will tire and opportunities for runs will come. We batted with patience because getting runs was tough. Ahmed also deserves credit as he maintained concentration despite being dismissed off no-balls, etc."

"There's turn for the bowlers but you really have to find the length. If you bowl in good areas, it provides wicket-taking opportunities."

"Everyone in the dressing room knew how tough it was so they kept giving us support and backing us. The support was tremendous. We've always learnt from Misbah and Younis to keep team goals ahead of personal milestones and that's what we concentrated on."

"If you look at the wicket, it could've been worse but we got an 80-run lead."

"I'd like to dedicate my innings to Younis and Misbah. Since this is their last series, I wanted to play an innings like this to dedicate to them and hopefully we'll end up on the winning side as well."

He was actually pretty fluent with the bat on Day 2. Just that morning session yesterday where he got really stuck but good to see he didn't give it away and got to three figures.

Confidence is flowing in Azhar Ali. Watching his peak as a Test batsman in the last 12 months has been a joy. He's now proven himself outside Asia with hundreds at Edgbaston, Melbourne and now in Barbados.

He's worked hard on his weaknesses, we saw how his head was falling over and playing around his pad at Lord's and Old Trafford, but now everything is clicking for him technically. Those straight drives against the pacers are glorious.

Its a shame he'll never get the hype from fans compared to an Umar Akmal or other batsmen who are all flash and no substance with a fraction of Azhar's output. Whilst fans rightfully criticise Azhar the ODI batsman - let's not carry those grievances over to Azhar's Test performances where he's more than proven himself.

Good dedication. Nice to see him taking mantle and hope he continues at their absence in the future cause i have no faith in Asad Shafiq. Bigger concern lies ahead.
