What's new

If you could bring one new law into cricket today, what would it be?

I would ask each appeal to be checked by DRS - so getting the right decision would not be down to luck or how good you are at taking DRS reviews!

How about you?

No run on free hit if you are out. (Any kind of dismissal)
No run if ball is deflected to the boundary by the runner

There should be more reward for number 1 ranked batsman / bowlers in any format.

I.e. give them an extra review or two free hits off a no ball for the number 1 batsman.

Wouldn't that massively slow down the game?

I would allow 3 bouncers an over in all formats.

Let teach these modern day hacks a bit of a lesson.

Sick and tired of seeing every other guy scoring at 150 plus strike rate.

I would put a time limit on the amount of time the lazy eye third umpire takes in making a decision. 20 seconds max. If the umpire cant make a call give the batter the benefit of doubt or go with on field umpire’s call. Third umpires cant slow down the game the way they do these days.

The biggest issue cricket is currently facing is the imbalance between the bat n the ball.

80 meters minimum for a boundary line for ALL THREE formats.

Any stadium that cannot accommodate this, either has to fix it or be banned from international cricket.

Otherwise, allow ball tempering to bring the balance back between the ball n the bat. Right now, the game is ridiculous in favor of the batsmen and people have fast losing interesting.

I would get rid of umpire's call. If ball is hitting stump, it is out. If not, it is not out.

I would also get rid of two new balls. One new ball was better.

Furthermore, I would have fixed boundaries for all grounds. Make it 80 meters or whatever. Have it fixed.

Lastly, I would get rid of mankading dismissal. It is a stupid dismissal.

as other poster mentioned, boundary size. hate it when the boundary is too small and all the mishits & flat hits travel for a six. i know there is a minimum boundary size requirement by MCC but that is not enough and they need to increase it.

This one for me too.

Allow ball tampering and make an approved list of what can be used to do it. This makes sure it is not a free for all.

This would help bowlers big time and also make games more competitive.

Change the allowed bat sizes. Use the bat dimensions allowed in the 80s to mid 90s. Today’s bats are like tree trunks where you don’t even need to hit the middle of the bat to get full value of your shots.

Why? I think toss is fine. Toss actually makes things interesting.

Some of the home ground advantage would be levelled out and curators would want to prepare pitches that won't give the advantage to winning the toss.

It will give visiting teams more chance of winning away from home.

Standardize boundary sizes so that every run made has same value

Simplify the illogical LBW law ... if DRS says hitting stumps then its out regardless of where it pitched.

1) Standard boundary size across all stadiums.

2) player substitutions. One while batting and one while bowling. At any point point of time any one player should be allowed to be substituted.

3) no soft signals for umpires.

4) no umpire's call either. DRS technology should be fully trusted for decision making.

5) yellow and red card system to make mankad fair and truly part of the game.

Yellow card should work as a warning for non striker and 5 runs penalty for batting team.

red card should be issued by umpire to declare non striker out and 10 runs penalty for batting team.

Most importantly It should be third umpire's job not a bowler's job to call out non strikers for stealing inches just like bowlers are called out for no ball.

Allow every action atleast for a spin. No restriction on chucking as long as speed a below a prescribed limit

If the test match ends in a draw then the victory can be awarded to the team meeting below criteria:

Most no. of top 5 batsman in batting order with SR of 65 & above and each scoring minimum 50 runs. Score of less than 50 not to be counted

This will encourage top 5 of all teams to play at decent strike rate with the intention to win and definitely increase interest of fan.

Test match resulting in draw after full 5 days is meaningless

Remove umpires call, if its even skimming the wicket its always out.

Also, something needs to be done in tests that disallows teams from preparing flat tracks as there needs to be more of an equal battle between bat and bowl.

Keep playing until there is a result. No draws acceptable.

Should be the other way round.
Only three red dots should be given LBW out regardless of what the umpire's call dictates.
Benefit of the doubt goes to batsman, and three red dots take the doubt out of it.

Once you formally announce your retirement from international cricket, you cannot take it back.

If you have a sr below 130, you cannot be ranked in the top 500 of the ICC rankings

If you average 60+ with the ball vs the top 5 ODI teams, you can’t be called an all-rounder.

If you can’t score an ODI 50 against India, your runs in ODIs shouldn’t be registered as official runs
