Pakistan is still looking for a spin bowling allrounder who can finish off an innings.
Imad Wasim looks promising, however the problem with him is that he can't spin the ball much and is not a natural hitter: he sometimes finds it hard to hit boundaries.
So why not try Hafeez at 7( if of course he passes his bowling test)? An offspinner like him can be very useful especially against left handed batsman and he will hopefully help Pakistan get a few runs in the latter part of the innings.....

What do you guys think ? Is it a good idea to play hafeez at 7 ?

No.

Imad is younger , he needs to be given a go , if it is required. Its better that Pakistan give opportunities to pace bowling all rounders

No. We must get rid of this hack Hafeez he's neither a batsman nor a proper bowler. He has been getting a free ride because of his connections.

Imad Wasim is the future of Pak cricket.

No, Its not like hafeez is a big spinner of teh ball . His main role in the LOI team has always been to choke teh runs and get left handers out . He won't be able to do that anyway with a new bowling action .

Let's not forget that hafeez has been the best Odi batsman (with babar) for pakistan for a couple of years now. Please don't judge him on his test performances. In my opinion he should be given a go at number 7. We don't have a power hitter dow the order, and I am a 100% sure that hafeez can do a better job than Imad in finishing off an innings.

Or why not play both Hafeez and Imad ? (Hafeez at 6 instead of rizwan)

With PCB you will never know. They always prefer senior as long they can able to turn up in the match. Performance doesn't matter

Hafeez as proper batsman can only be useful Asian condition. Imad should be given a decent run before reverting to Hafeez.

Hafeez was not a big turner either. On top of that he was caught chucking twice. There is no place for a 35+ years old chucker who can't bat outside Asia to save his life.

in ODIS why cant we have Hafeez and Imad. Hafeez as an all rounder would strengthen our ODI unit.

The_Odd_One hasnt he passed his bowling Test. If he hasnt or doesnt then id say we should move on from him

I do not understand what nawaz will do in Australia !

Yes your question is more valuable than this post originally. We were playing both Imad and Nawaz in recent past in ODI's. So better compare Hafeez with Nawaz than Imad.

There is an open chance for Hafeez to come back and replace Nawaz with his bowling option available.
That will also provide variety in our bowling too.

No use in selecting imad vs Australia in the test series because Australia have a lot of left handers.

if you want to play all rounder in Australia, play a fast bowling all rounder . A spinner bowling will be of no use , and batting will further weaken.

Hafeez should be added to the Test squad as a backup for number 6 batting position.

If the need arises I would play Hafeez at 6 rather than Mohammad Nawaz.

Given the Australian team has got 7 left handers and Hafeez is a " leftie hunter " so He needs to be added to the squad immediately.

If Shafiq fails in 1st test He can replace him aswell in the 2nd Test.

Since he is a spinner so I am not bothered about him not bowling in competitive cricket in last 1 year. Furthermore He will be the fifth bowling option.

Yes.

I can't stand Hafeez and I think he's a terrible batsman.

But Australia has 7 left-handed batsmen. You need an off-spinner.

I say remove Younis Khan from the team and go to this line-up:

1 Azhar Ali
2 Sami Aslam
3 Babar Azam
4 Asad Shafiq
5 Misbah
6 Mohammad Hafeez
7 Sarfraz Ahmed
8 Yasir Shah
9 Sohail Khan
10 Mohammad Amir
11 Wahab Riaz

I think they'll recall Hafeez and play a team very similar to yours. Only difference will be Shafiq will be dropped and YK will maintain his spot.

That's fine by me.

Even if Younis starts the series, I can't see him finishing it.

Don't even think of Hafeez.

He is past.He can only be searched for in madam tusho museum.

Imad is brilliant.Next ODI captain.

Hafeez is not an allrounder. He's a hack for years he has been using his connections to stay in the team denying talented players space in the team. He can't bat to save his life and his bowling owes to chucking. Age is not on his side.

Imad Wasim is an aggressive young all rounder with leadership skills we must persist with him. It would be very unfair to drop a talented young player like him.

Hafeez should retire. He has no place in modern cricket.

Hafeez is not an all rounders, look at his performance in ongoing Q A trophy, he can't bat.

None knows how effective is non-chucking Hafeez and everybody knows he is a terrible batsman outside Asia. So, there is no need to bring him back.

I'll take Hafeez in tests, wouldn't take Hafeez over Imad in ODIs but would take him over Nawaz. He should be ready to bat at 6 in tests and 6/7/8 in ODIs though.

Hafeez still has a spot in ODIs. He can easily replace Rizwan.

3. Hafeez
4. Babar
5. Malik
6. Sarfraz
7. Imad
8. Nawaz

Imad isn't brilliant yet and he's not a good enough batsman for a hitter position.

Also, yet to be seen against proper batsmen on batting tracks - his darting may not work.

Babar needs to be the long-term number 3. It will be a terrible move to demote him for Hafeez.

Rizwan should be replaced by Umar Akmal who deserves another go in ODIs. Arthur likes him too, he will get a shot in ODIs soon.

Hafeez is surplus to requirements in ODIs now because Imad and Nawaz have replaced him as all-rounders, and he is too old and injury prone to keep the likes of Umar Akmal out of the team.

In my opinion, Hafeez is done as a Limited Overs player. However, he can get selected in Tests ahead of Nawaz.

I know but I was stating it from the team management's perspective. If I were to select a team, I would not have more than 2 players over 30 years in the ODI team.

This will be my team for now.

I'd have Akmal in there. Also as Mamoon pointed out, Babar is our long term No. 3

Sharjeel
Azhar
Babar
Malik
Sarfraz
Hafeez
U.Akmal
Imad
Hasan
Amir
Wahab (for now) / Amad Butt

Nos. 6,7 & 8 can be interchangeable based on the team's situation.

Watson retired around the similar age of 34 despite being 10x the LOI player Hafeez is so the youngsters can take his place, even though there isn't a permanent pace AR replacement in sight other than M Marsh who is kind of hit or miss, yet Hafeez a much inferior player with less fitness is thinking of yet another comeback at the same age. We have replacements, thanks for your services but please stop. Plenty of leagues will still take him and he can make a living.

I like your approach but still we will face the problem of 6th bowler so umer akmal has to sacrifice. In addition to this I really think that we are short of a pacer all rounder rather than a spinner. We need to induct a pacer .

In past we have very good pacer all rounder but missing now. All other teams have v. good pacers with good batting talent of hitting big. Even india is looking for this.

We should be looking forward not back and therefore Imad should be given preference over Hafeez.
