"In 30 years of cricket, I have never seen five such consecutive (batting) failures" : Aaqib Javed

Aaqib Javed speaking at a presser after Lahore Qalandars lost their fifth match in a row in PSL 3:

"We've played five matches and it's the same pattern, a good start and then a collapse. I was sitting and was thinking that I have never seen such a performance from any team."

"You have 7 batsmen so you expect that in 5 matches, they have 35 innings and they'll have at least one fifty."

"Teams have big collapses and I've seen out of form teams but you expect a few fifties, we don't have even one."

"We keep talking about a good start which is 40 runs but a good start only becomes something more when another pair makes it 70. Even if the other batsmen give pathetic performances of 9-10 runs, one of your top order batsmen like your number needs to go big to get a good score."

"You have expectations from your experienced players like Brendon, Fakhar, Umar, Delport was there for a while... Ramdin is a very experienced batsman, he's known in these situations for rotating strike and building an innings."

"What's happening here is, for example Fakhar, when the field spreads after the powerplay, he needs to change his game. Today they brought on Dawson because they wanted him to hit big. Not just Fakhar, all the batsmen in the top order failed to build even one innings from the start and carried it to 15-16 overs."

"The other work we do for development with LQ, I won't mix it with this. The work we do is for development of talent, here you can just bring maximum 1-2 emerging players to PSL. Here your players need to go out there and perform, your team can't win if even one batsman can't make runs. You could see that when defending 100, all bowlers look toothless since they can't build pressure."

"When we come out to play the 6th game, we will obviously come out to win."

"In 30 years of cricket, I have never seen five such consecutive failures specially in batting. Normally you can have a few failures and after that, the team turns it around. People thought we will turn it around after yesterday but again today we were flat."

"I don't think anyone should even bother asking me what happened, it's so obvious."

"Yesterday's pitch was not up to the mark as it was quite wet with low bounce, even today the bounce wasn't that consistent but that's what it is, you have to fight it out and make your way."

"I don't think that being strict will make a difference. National teams and franchise cricket is different, here they are professionals and they play 4-5 leagues, and you just need to manage them and define their roles."

Mr. Javed doesn't realize that in a professional league setup where other teams have world class managers and coaches, his dehati paindo tactics won't go very far.

He should keep working with Lahore Qalanders, otherwise he might get a job with PCB...

Lol, Aqib trying his best to save his own *** while throwing his charges under the bus. Typical **** trait.

Thats the nature of our batting talent on display. Not his fault if our homegrown players are so bad. Most of these guys look like they need 2-3 chances in one innings to actually make a big knock for the team. In PSL they are not gettting those chances, they are facing quality bowling like Yasir Shah or Imran Tahir. Ground fielding is very sharp, and they are exposed like no other.

Pakistani batting talent is currently the worst in the world. It has nothing to do with LQ, the general recipe for victory in PSL is batting talent from abroad, and bowling talent local with spin predominance.

LQ has done decently as a bowling unit, and their batting unit has faltered everytime despite even getting a good startt. Its a poorly balanced side with no batting power.

Not buying that. Aqib is a poor coach and can't motivate the team. Hopefully Fawad Rana axes him after this season.

So Mr Aqib - instead of throwing your team under the bus when the pressure is on. What are you doing to fix the batting issues after getting paid millions to do so? :13:

The most important question. Aqib Javed has proven to be the classical Pakistani coach who accepts all the sweet things that come with victory but throws the entire squad under the Bus when everything goes south.

Aqib is a fine coach, and he has the coaching degrees as well. This team has had a big imprint of Baz Mccullum as a team, can't deny that. The way the batsmen went gung ho in most of their games. Aqib maybe was part of the selection process since alot of youngsters have been chosen. Obviously all of them failed, and now he doesn't get to save his face. However whoever is behind not selecting foreign batting talent for Lahore has made a blunder, this batting is not good enough. All our youngsters and batsman haven't done greatly in the PSL save for a couple of games, and if it weren't for a few big names like Sanga, Sammy or Watson or Pieterson, all the other teams would've struggled like this too

This man is the biggest joke in coaching and management history. Totally clueless and gutless. Needs to be sacked.

Aqib started coaching career quite good actually. He was U19 WC winning coach, he was Afghan bowling coach and they enjoyed a sharp raise in bowling stocks that time. I believe, he is an MCC Level 3 Pro Coach - if he had earned that certificate genuinely, then he indeed has the qualification; may be application is not there.

For LQ, I think problem isn't Aqib only - last 2 years, Paddy Upton was coach and he is one of the most reputed pro coaches around; been involved in SAF & Indian national set-up for almost a decade (& now I believe runs some high performance centre with Kirsten). What I feel if Mr. Rana is too emotional & charming guy, which is probably exploited by everyone including Aqib. Elliot guy should have been retained in Coaching staff and Upton shouldn't have been sacked as Head Coach - last two years, their team wasn't that good, but this year it should have done better.

1st game Top 4 batsmen: Fakhar, Narine, McCullum, Akmal

2nd game Top 4 batsmen: McCullum, Narine, Fakhar, Delport

3rd game Top 4 batsmen: McCullum, Narine, Fakhar, Akmal

4th game Top 4 batsmen: Akmal, McCullum, Fakhar, Agha

5th game Top 4 batsmen: Fakhar, McCullum, Agha, Ramdin

I think this should be enough to understand how clueless McCullum and the coaches are at Lahore. No consistency whatsoever and then Aqib is perplexed at why they are collapsing every game.

Compare this to Multan's Top 4:

1st game Top 4 batsmen: Sangakkara, Shehzad, Maqsood, Malik

2nd game Top 4 batsmen: Sangakkara, Shehzad, Maqsood, Malik

3rd game Top 4 batsmen: Sangakkara, Shehzad, Bravo, Maqsood

4th game Top 4 batsmen: Rained off

5th game Top 4 batsmen: Sangakkara, Shehzad, Maqsood, Malik (to come)

Like i said Aqib is clueless and is throwing the team under the bus and saving himself.

Aqib needs to be delegated to coaching only grade 2 teams for the overall benefit of PSL and Pakistan cricket in general.

This level is beyond his mediocre skill set, he has a proven track record of being a thorough failure plus has a knack of destroying bowler careers as well.

What do you mean by "since a lot of youngsters have been chosen" ?

They have got to be the worst team in terms of picking domestic players. Depending upon Umar Akmal is your premier middle order batsmen was just plain stupid. I can gty you that Bilal Asif would be a huge improvement On sohail Akhtar. Deport should play instead of Ramdin who is here only to pick up a paycheck. Their best lineup is: Fakhar, Narine, Agha, Mcullum, Deport, Bilal Asif, Amir Yamin, Gulraiz Sadaf, Yasir, sohail khan, mustafizur

Wow these comments will turn players against the coach, should take ownership rather than putting all blame on players. Seems very selfish imo

Pakistan did not win on one day game against South Africa for about 4 year period. Pakistan has seen quite a bit of this before

This guy is so useless, and he knows this, so instead of trying to actually do something about the problems, he just throws his team under the bus and hopes he doesn't get any of the blame. Even I could do this, and he's been given millions for it.

Excellent work.. U found the elephant in the room...Didnt u see a similarity between this and during waqar's tenure in pak batting order... It is obvious that waqar and aqib who were the good bowling coaches are not fit and good enough to be a head coach as they are clueless with the batting department...

He has gained expertise in conducting talent hunt programs , and should be restricted to that only..

When your team is relying on a washed up Denesh Ramdin to hold the innings together in the middle-order, you know you are in a lot of trouble.

Someone show him the video footage of Pakistans 2010/11/12 batting.

Any score of above 30 was a milestone for our batters tbh.

People seem to forget that Aaqib singlehandely took the UAE to the World Cup, I would like to see anyone else try from the state they were in.

Slight grammatical error - make that "is" in to "had been" ................, the statement isn't that hilarious now.

It's funny that he mentioned those collapses this season but never mentioned his own failure in 3 consecutive seasons, even with all the resources to build a good team.
