In brutal irony, did Misbah-ul-Haq and Waqar Younis end up giving a bigger ‘dhokha’ than M. Amir?

Folk climbed the mountain summit and hoisted their vocals as if they were about to perform the call to prayer - instead, they vilified Amir with tears streaming down their face, their patriotism for Pakistan was awoken by Amir’s alleged deceit, he betrayed them and everything they stood for as fans of Pakistan cricket, Amir had abandoned his country and he deserved to be crucified for his outspoken views on the Roman Empire (Misbah and Waqar).

Now that Rome has fallen and left their gullible supporters for dead prior to a landmark battle for national pride (The World T20), what of Misbah and Waqar ? What of their deceit ? will their supporters ostracise them for the same reasons Amir was crucified - except these circumstances are far worse, directly leading an Army to their deaths and then running away like chicken must surely rank highly potentially among the greatest cowardice we’ve ever witnessed since the dawn of Cricket.

So, did Misbah and Waqar give a bigger dhoka?

Have the fans of Misbah and Waqar been humiliated and stripped off the little dignity they once had before being consumed by a false sense of pride ?

Very good point!

The fact that these two held a grudge against Amir for ditching the team for the Aus tour is looking very ironic now!

Abandoning a team that you coached and prepared for a mega event last minute is one of the most cowardly acts!

Is that a thread? or a Bollywood movie dialog?

They were told to Resign, because incoming PCB chairman has other ideas. otherwise who in his right mind would leave a paycheck this big?

Better resign or get fired. That's all

They were not told to resign, they were told that the PCB were moving on after the T-20 WC. If these individuals who took charge of the team for the past 2 years and were planning for the T-20 WC were so patriotic, hub-n-e-Watan, they would not have abandoned the team one month before the T-20 WC and would have stuck around and served their notice period.

I hope the CJP and the National Assembly summons these two shameless, beghairat leaches and a permanent sticky is put on there heads to render these individuals unemployable. The PCB should refuse to issue any NOC for Waqar to broadcasters going forward.

I think I'll go get a disprin after reading that. Head is spinning.

What do dhoka and begharat mean?

I just got the impression that they know the free ride is over, and that they were going to be held accountable fir their results.

immature post.

The BOG member who is not chairman yet was insulted Misbah that he would still be coach but not for the two series we facing.

Doesnt work that way, and Misbah was not gonna sit around. Rameez Raja created that situation.

You can use any kind of analogies you want but the truth is out there. if you dont want to accept it than I could care less

Misbah and Waqar abandoned their team a month before the premier tournament of their tenure for which they were given the responsibility to prepare the team for two years ago. History will remember the cowardize buzdily they displayed.

Dhoka - Betrayal

Beghairat - Shameless

Maybe if your boss asked you that your replacement will work in your place for two months after which you will be called back for a week and than you will be booted out, thus maybe you would had worked under such conditions. Not Misbah

Those are words to sum up both Misbah eras.

He shamelessly stole Fawad Alam’s place in the team as a player.

As a coach he betrayed his team and his country by replacing players in their peak years with his geriatric cronies.

Arthur and Rixon had to get rid of the ancient Sohail Khan and Imran Khan in 2016. Misbah brought them back when they were three years older! Between the pair of them they delivered a grand total of 1 Test wicket!

It was not 2 months, it was a few weeks and that also where the PCB offered a humanitarian gesture to Misbah because he had been in Biosecure bubbles for the past 3-4 months without seeing his family and he would have been stuck in a bio secure bubble for another 1.5-2 months. Sadly Misbah chose to create controvery by resigning banking on the media to dissolve him off all responsibility for the teams performance in the T-20 WC

Junaids ‘Dhokah’ I understand means betrayal, I asked my neighbour about it when Misbah/Waqar claimed Amir had betrayed them and his country. I felt this is worth re-visiting based on recent turn of events!

:))) so according to fans here two cricketers who served the nationa dignity and were being mistreated by their Employer is much more worse than a guy who spot fixed test games, just to make some money off of no balls and than after his ban was over he decided to play franchise cricekt instead of international due to easy money.

But no, Misbah is disgrace compared to amir

You tell me, what I would agree though is the behaviour of Misbah and Waqar is worthy of a Bollywood movie.

- Claim you’re not seeking the top job on the committee which decides the fate of a coach, sack him and then replace him.

- Then usurp all become the first selector and coach in the history of cricket despite having zero qualifications and no experience - heck no experience even coaching a bunch of kids!

- After failing numerous times, pull some strings to nail another job, collect free pay cheques and give big statements to the media to hide poor performances

- Take the team back by 30 years and cut the progress made before you joined

- Viscously attack players when you are the man manager and make bollywood statements saying how they betrayed the country

- When the going gets tough and you know you’ve played all your cards, QUIT.

- Don’t see out your professional commitment which is required by your employer

- Leave your country, your team and fans for dead prior to a major tournament

I’ll tell you what, we can even throw in multiple dancers from the Misbah/Waqar Hareh Krishna fan club, I think all the singing and dancing in-between all these events would be most appropriate for a Bollywood script.

Pakistan cricket has been cash cow for retired cricketers who become coaches and managers without proper experience or qualifications

This has to change.

Alas I don't see that happening as we've gone snd made the talking thesaurus Charimenan of the whole damn thing

I will award any Misbah fan a wrap with fries int it who can respond decently without getting so worked up about their messiah’s factual transgressions

Totally agree, you don’t need to be a Rocket Scientist to implement some basic fundamentals but the whole thing bas turned into a circus, you wont find this even in some of our club level cricket

Dhoka? They promised nothing. They had no game plan but to take Pakistan back into the days when we had fielders like Rana Naveed Ul Hassan.

Misbah has made his living because of a hidden Gidar Singhi

Ofcourse Misbah is a disgrace. Infact he is also a coward who ran away. All these players were being played under his selection and coaching for 2 years. When the time came, your beloved Misbah ran because he know he built a crappy team, which used to be #1. Don't believe me then just look at the record pre-Sep 2019 and after it. I understand your love for Misbah trumps love for Pakistan, but come on, own up to the failures.

Wouldn't go as far as saying Misbah/Waqar betrayed Pak. They were given a timeline of them being let go so who in their right mind would stay? I think anyone in their position would naturally do the same thing.

There is quite a bit of speculation behind the events and we don't really know what's the true and complete story?

Wasim Khan, supposedly asked Misbah to take some time off and spent a greatly needed time with his family.
Misbah said, he is demoralized that board was looking a replacement behind his back.

If we connect these two dots then we can safely assume that Misbah was asked to resign in a subtle way.. in other words, he was fired! (And rightly so).

Now if Misbah was fired, then it's great.
But for Waqar to resign JUST BECAUSE MISBAH was kicked out, is a sign of shamelessness to a great extent. Unless of course, Raja wanted to chop both heads.

I think some people believe Pakistan is a top level team hindered only by Misbah :))

Uh why not? He replaced Yousaf in 2007 and was a senior non performing player from 2007 to 2010. He comes back from the wilderness and is rewarded the captaincy of the team from 2010 to 2017, an era where Pakistan played its most defensive cricket on the field and adopted conservative approaches towards team selections. The guy undeservedly becomes head coach, chief selector, batting coach from 2019 to 2021 through a very corrupt process where he was on the same committee where he voted to get rid of Mickey Arthur and then replaced him and in this time period Pakistan's performances again nose dived

He definately has dominated Pakistan Cricket in the last 14-15 years

Well the way i look at it, both Misbah and Waqar were told by the PCB that they were serving their notice periods which will last till the T20 WC. Ravi Shastri is also clear he is not going to continue in his role beyond the T-20 WC but does that mean he will not give his duties and role a full 100% till his last working day.

Both Misbah and Waqar knew that it will be impossible for the PCB to find an international coach of repute on a full time basis in such a short period of time and the PCB cannot just pick someone just like that, they have to go through the full recruitment process of posting advertisements, conducting interviews e.t.c. which will take time. Both Misbah and Waqar knew that the temporary coaches i.e. Saqlain and Razzaq will not have enough time to make their mark on the team or change things substantially on such short notice.

Shouldn't it have been their patriotic and moral duty to see the side that they were in charge off and responsible for the last 2 years preparing for the T-20 WC to go with the team and see out the last few days of their tenure and then quietly leave after the tournament without creating any controversy and embarrassment for themselves and the PCB and the nation? But nope these two cowards decided to put their egos first and gave the entire media and cricketing community plenty of ammunition to throw viotrol against the PCB.

I hope the CJP and the National Assembly summons these two beghairat individuals and these two are permanently black listed from any cricketing job in the future. I hope the PCB refuses any NOC to Waqar to broadcasters around the world i.e. the Modern Day Intikhab Alam.

They were not told to resign. It was no secret that Ramiz was against Misbah's style of management and would have likely replaced him.

Who in his right mind would leave a paycheck this big? A person who has no confidence in the team he has built and knows that he'll be in the firing line given the very likely WC debacle we'll have.

Only a lame attempt to save face!

Look, here is how I see it, and I think you may agree.

The bottom line is, I am happy that we are going into WC without these two. They were NEVER gonna do anything special. They never had any solid plan or any sharp vision to effectively prepare the squad in the last 20 months.
Will Razzaq and Saqlain, do anything earth shattering in their short term coaching roles? Probably not. But, they can't do any worse than what MisQar was supposedly do.

So on one hand we can point out that both of them did not fight back to stay with the squad until the end of their contract to prove their allegiance and patriotism with the team and Pak cricket - but on the other hand, this complain is easily trumped by the fact they are are OUT - because we already know, they never had any allegiance with Pak cricket. Both were super selfish and truly incompetent in their roles. I say good riddance.
The fact that they did not fight back indicates that they were dishonest with their jobs to begin with.

For me personally, no complains whether they fought back or not. I am glad that they are NOT part of the coaching squad for the WC.

Matter of fact, I have a slight hope that Razzaq (who coached and won 3 PSL titles, and Saqlain being a former spin consultant of England's national squad) have a slightly better chance to provide some useful and effective tips to the players that could help us excel better in the WC.

I don't know if it was a 'dhoka' though. Misbah's tenure as coach was a failure which left the side (in all three formats) with no discernable identity. Even if he stayed till the World Cup, he would have been sacked right after. All Misbah did was save himself the trouble of having another failure on his head. And tbh if I was him, I too would have resigned after looking at that squad. Now the positive is that if Pakistan do crash out of the first round, the responsibility will fall on the YouTube pundit's head and then we can hopefully get rid of him too.

As for Amir, I never felt he gave anyone a 'dhoka' when he retired. I just thought he acted like an entitled brat who thought too much of himself eventhough all he had really been since his return was an overrated and overhyped disappointment.

I also don't see how any of this excuses the vitriol Amir spewed against two guys who, at the end of the day were not just his coaches, but also two veteran Pakistani ex-players who achieved far more than he will ever be able to for Pakistan. They were automatically deserving of his respect. If he had a difference of opinion, there was a more toned down way of expressing it. But ofcourse he wanted to make a news story out of it.

My biggest problem is not with Amir retiring, but the fact that he has showed himself to be a low-grade human being through this entire situation.

Have to agree with the OP here, what Amir did was selfish and but that was his prerogative. Misbah and Waqar deciding to resign just before a major tournament and leaving Pakistan in a lurch have effectively made sure that Pakistan would be too unsettled to have any sort of realistic shot at winning this tournament. They simply had a much bigger responsibility than any individual player.

If I am brutally honest, I think Misbah / Waqar didnt get the white players they wanted since M Wasim became chief selector.

M Wasim also gave us dhoka and should have been sacked.
