KARACHI:
An audio clip popped up on social media on Saturday night in which former prime minister Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi can be allegedly heard directing the Focal Person to PTI Chairman on Digital Media Dr Arsalan Khalid to spread the "narrative of treason".

Over a two-minute-long audio clip begins with the former first lady purportedly expressing her resentment towards Dr Arsalan Khalid for remaining inactive, saying that the PTI's social media wing should have been more active these days.

As Dr Arsalan starts to explain the reason for remaining "inactive", Bushra stops him and asks to listen to her carefully. "Aleem Khan and other such people would say things about me, Imran Khan and my friend Farah Khan," she said, asking Dr Arsalan to link all such people to "treason".

"Aleem Khan and co. will be speaking as per their plan. You should link them with treason. You have to raise [threat] letter [issue] on social media and say that we know the letter is authentic."

In the audio clip, Bushra can be purportedly heard instructing the PTI social media head to build a narrative that all the PTI dissidents had joined foreign conspirators to save themselves.

The former first lady allegedly asks Dr Arsalan to direct his team to take up the issue of the government not buying oil from Russia and link it with how Imran Khan was being betrayed.

"You cannot let this matter die down," the supposed Bushra Bibi says to Dr Arsalan, asking him to make a trend so people know that the country and Khan are being betrayed.

"They will talk a lot about me and Farah. You have to link it with treason as well". The former first lady further tells Dr Arsalan that people were worried about how Imran Khan had knowledge about everything even before they come out in the open.

"I am only telling you this... you don't have to discuss this issue with anyone. They are after him [Imran Khan] because of this. But you have to link it with treason," she concludes.

This is not the first time an audio clip surfaced on social media involving Bushra Bibi.

Earlier this month, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders played an audio tape — purportedly a conversation between the Bahria Town chief and his daughter – revealing how Farah Gogi "demanded a gift" for former first lady Bushra Bibi.

But but but Imran said bushra wasnt politcal?

Won't be surprised if this turns out to be another Saqib Nisar copy paste editing job. You cannot put anything behind the badniyat PDM parties and their equally ten times badniyat supporters

This clip from Maryam factory reminds me of famous Indian channel that played intercepted call between Pakistan Army & terrorists in which they were talking to each other in shud Hindi :)

Dr Arsalan doesnt speak like this and Bushra bib running campaign against Army :)) :))
Baji getting desperate now and very much understandable after collecting plenty of laanat from Pakistani awaam!

This false propaganda is the result of the decision makers favouring criminals on bail who should be jailed for life if judiciary was not corrupt and run to benefit a family who openly attacked the Supreme Court.

PTI, govt lock horns over Bushra Bibi's alleged audio leak
PTI leaders allege audio timed to blackmail party, churned out by Maryam Nawaz

ISLAMABAD:
The government and the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) locked horns over the purported audio of Bushra Bibi leaked after PTI chief Imran Khan's huge public gathering at Islamabad's Parade Ground on Saturday night.

While the origin and authenticity of the tape is still shrouded in mystery, the government has seized on the leak as a fresh battle line against the PTI leaders, who tamp it down as part of a “smear campaign” timed to undermine its narrative.

As political rhetoric in the country continues to spiral into an acrimonious verbal slugfest, the timing of the audio release also raised alarm because it surfaced shortly after the PTI's rally in Islamabad, eclipsing much of the political landscape.

In the purported audio clip, which has not been verified independently, the voice believed to be of the former first lady can be heard giving orders to PTI social media head Arsalan Khalid, urging him to accuse the former opposition parties of ‘treason’.

Then she goes on to instruct how to build a narrative against party dissidents by linking them to 'foreign conspiracies' against Imran Khan.

"Now you have to ensure that this issue does not die down," the woman who is said to be Bushra Bibi said.

The leak, initially viral on social media, further snowballed into controversy on Sunday when PTI leaders finally broke their silence over the mysterious audio leak.

‘Fake audio clip’

However, the PTI has vehemently rejected the purported telephonic conversation, tying it up with a slew of other similar "strategically-timed" leaks churned out by PML-N's media cell.

In a Twitter post, PTI stalwart Shahbaz Gill said that such ‘fake audio clips’ had already been exposed in the past and alleged that the "fake audio-video production" has come forward with yet another ’fake news'.

"This time linking the former first lady with the fabricated material," he added.

As for his part, PTI leader Fayyazul Hassan Chohan termed the leak of the private audio tapes an “immoral, illegal and inhumane” act.

The PTI leader said that leaking audio and video tapes will not stop Imran’s mission.

“Imran Khan is fighting against the servitude of America with full courage and bravery,” Chohan added.

He further said that Imran had "full confidence" in the participation of millions of citizens of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Similarly, party leader Farrukh Habib echoed his colleagues and blasted the PML-N for "crossing the red line", forewarning the government to not "whine" when its leaks are released.

"Last night, he again released a fake audio, it was released from the factory of Maryam Safdar from where the fake audio of Saqib Nisar was released," Habib claimed.

"You're crossing the red line by stooping low by resorting to such profanities. Don't complain when the answer comes."

He dismissed the leak as a blackmailing tactic.

'Tainting the political landscape'

Meanwhile, PML-N saw the audio as fresh fodder to bolster its claims that Imran had peddled lies against their party "on the orders of Bushra Bibi".

During a joint press conference, PML-N leaders Attaullah Tarar and Malik Ahmad Khan accused the former premier of tainting the political landscape of the country.

It has been proved that allegations of treason were used against us on the orders of Bushra Bibi, they said.

This isn't the first time that leaked audio has rattled the country's political scene. The two sides -- the PTI and the PML-N -- have recently been levelling accusations of serious nature against each other.

What makes this even daunting is the announcement at the aforesaid presser to issue a red warrant to bring back Farah Khan -- Bushra's close aide -- as the calls to investigate her for her alleged involvement in corruption gain momentum.

Shireen mazari confirmed the audio as real

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Shireen Mazari and Fawad Chaudhry demanded a forensic test of the phone tapping of Imran Khan's wife Bushra Bibi while speaking to the media in Islamabad on Monday.

On Saturday, an audio clip popped up on social media in which Bushra Bibi can be allegedly heard directing the Focal Person to PTI Chairman on Digital Media Dr Arsalan Khalid to spread the "narrative of treason".

Referring to the audio clip, Shireen Mazari claimed that a forensic test would prove whether "it was fake or real".

However, hinting at the audio clip being "real", the PTI leader went on to add that "according to the Supreme Court decision, phone tapping is illegal," while stating that "the entire conversation has been cut and pasted".

"Nonetheless there is no political issue here," she claimed before adding that "previously, a government was removed for the same reason".

Although the former minister for human rights did not clarify this, it appears she was referring to the previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government's claims in 2017 when the Prime Minister House had accused the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) probing into the Panamagate case of tapping phones and monitoring witnesses, which is in violation of the law and the Constitution.

Calling on the apex court to take notice of the alleged phone tapping of Imran Khan's house, Mazari contended that the actons were part of an attempt to "cover-up" the conspiracy that PTI claims was behind Imran Khan's government's ouster.

"This is being done by those who brought the current government," she stated. "Why is this happening?" she questioned as she addressed the "neutrals" and the incumbent prime minister.

Speaking on the occasion, Fawad Chaudhry also alleged that phones are continuously being tapped and conversations are being leaked across Pakistan.

Farah's corruption allegations

Former information minister Fawad also urged the government to file a case against Farah Bibi first as he pointed toward allegations of corruption being levelled against her.

Read more Ranking in Transparency index plunged due to 'political corruption': Fawad

On Sunday, the government revealed its plans to issue a red warrant for the repatriation of Farah, a close friend of former first lady Bushra Bibi, on corruption charges.

Taking the government to task, Fawad Chaudhry said "how can warrants be issued when the case has not even been registered?".

Load-shedding

Turning to the issue of frequent load-shedding in the country, Fawad furthered that the reason behind increasing power cuts was that the government did not have enough capital to procure fuel.

"It is being said that people will experience load-shedding even on Eid," he noted.

Pointing to the incumbent government's policies, Fawad said that "they immediately accepted all the conditions of the IMF [International Monetary Fund] but still could not get the bail-out package."

He claimed that this was a sign of the government's incompetence, adding that the National Accountability Bureau amendment was in reality "NRO 2" of Rs1,100 billion.

He also alleged that the former president Asif Ali Zardari was granted an NRO of Rs50 billion through Omni Group.

Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah on Wednesday said that any recording — video or audio — made to expose a person's criminal offences or misdeed could not be considered a crime, unless it was done to blackmail someone.

"The reality is that if any recording, whether video or audio, is made to catch someone's crime, then in my view it is no crime. If it is used to blackmail someone, then it is a crime," he said in a press conference.

"No one can even claim that it is a violation of their privacy," the minister asserted.

His comments come as a reference to the purported audio clip of Bushra Bibi, former prime minister Imran Khan's wife, and PTI social media head Dr Arslan Khalid that has been doing the rounds on social media.

In the alleged clip, Bushra Bibi could be heard telling Dr Khalid that Imran had asked him to run trends on social media declaring political opponents as "traitors".

As per the clip, Dr Khalid was told to declare “Aleem Khan and others” traitors on social media as they would be speaking against the PTI chief. According to the clip, the former first lady also asked the PTI social media head to raise the issue of the 'cipher' on social media. She also allegedly asked Dr Khalid to highlight the issue of the government not buying oil from Russia which was akin to “betrayal”.

Dr Khalid was allegedly instructed by Bushra Bibi that these issues should not be hushed down and that trends should be generated to highlight how “Imran Khan and the country were being betrayed”.

In the purported clip, Bushra Bibi also allegedly told Arslan Khalid to link criticism against her and Farah Khan, a friend of the former first lady who flew out of Pakistan in April, with treason. As per the clip, Dr Khalid assured the ex-first lady that the social media team would follow the instructions and label the PTI critics “traitors”.

A day after the audio clip surfaced, PTI leaders Shireen Mazari and Fawad Chaudhry claimed that the phones of Imran and his family were being tapped and called the clip a breach of law.

At a press conference in Islamabad today, Sanaullah said that the audio clip proved that Bushra Bibi was "involved in a crime". "A lady of an important status is linking the entire opposition and the nation with treason over a letter, which they (PTI) claimed came from America.

"She is doing it to save herself from corruption. She is explaining how it can done with a proper procedure, with proper planning and training," he stated, adding that no questions could be raised on such a recording.

But if PTI claimed that the recording was false, the minister continued, then Imran should straight up refute it and demand a forensic examination.

"Instead, his party members say that the content of the audio doesn't matter. If the recording is fake, they should say that it is fake so that an investigation is held to prove who is right and who isn't."

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) reserved on Monday its decision on the maintainability of the petition filed to probe the alleged audio leak of Bushra Bibi and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) former focal person on digital media Dr Arslan Khalid.

Acting Chief Justice Amir Farooq heard the petition at the IHC.

The court expressed anger at the petitioner's counsel, questioning whether the IHC was required to carry out an investigation into the leaked tape.

“Is investigating the job of the Islamabad High Court? Are you an affected party of this audio leak?” Justice Farooq questioned.

He furthered that drafting a writ regarding a “conversation of two private people” could set a dangerous precedent. “When drafting such a writ, think carefully about what the demands are,” he added.

Using 'sea' as a metaphor to emphasise the matter of the audio leak, the petitioner's counsel argued that the issue had been explained in the application.

However, Justice Amir Farooq stated that "it does not matter to the court whether it is a sea, or a galaxy. The whole country will be involved in this, should we sit and start investigating everyone?” the justice remarked.

On July 15, a citizen named Mohammad Arshad filed the application in the high court through Advocate Asif Gujjar.

The petition said that Bushra and Dr Arslan should be summoned to court and asked about the audio, whereas a forensic investigation of the audio should also be conducted.

In his petition, Arshad said that audio recordings of phone calls and leaks interfered with people's private lives and created a bad image of state institutions. The former first lady and former focal personal on digital media should be summoned to court and asked about the audio, he said.

The petitioner also called for a forensic investigation of the matter through the Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). He also called for action against the perpetrators of such crimes.

Following weeks of a lull in the audio leaks saga, another clip surfaced on Thursday purportedly featuring PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari and Bushra Bibi — the wife of PTI Chairman Imran Khan — where the duo could be heard talking about the sale of [wristwatches] in the possession of the former premier.

The 21-second audio, which made the rounds on social media, begins with Zulfi and Bushra exchanging pleasantries before the latter talks about watches.

“There are a few [watches] of Khan sahib who wants them to be delivered to you so you could sell them. These watches are not in his use so he wants them to be sold off,” Bushra Bibi purportedly told Bukhari.

The conversation ends with Zulfi replying in absolute agreement, saying “sure, murshid. I will do it.”

PML-N’s Hina Pervez Butt, in her tweet, accused the ex-PM’s wife of indulging in the “business of watches” at the PM House.

“Bushra Bibi has established Niazi sahib as a confirmed thief.”

A series of audio recordings have surfaced of late, allegedly featuring the leadership of the PTI and PML-N holding informal conversations never meant to be heard by the public.

Some of the clips featured purported conversations between the PTI chief and his former ministers and principal secretary about a cipher that he has for long presented as evidence of a “foreign conspiracy” to oust him from office.

In October, an alleged audio of Imran was leaked to social media, featuring the PTI chief talking about the cipher with party leaders Shireen Mazari and Asad Umar.

The audio — slightly longer than a minute — was the second that was released in a day featuring the PTI chairman. In the clip, the trio were discussing the cipher and allegedly strategising on how to “play it up in the public”.

Earlier in the same day, an audio recording had surfaced featuring a voice — sounding like Imran’s — discussing “buying five” and “numbers game”.

Bukhari demands forensic audit of audio

Meanwhile, in a tweet later today, Bukhari said that he had neither sold nor bought a watch and demanded that a forensic audit of the audio should be immediately conducted.

“Earlier, it was being said that watches were sold to a person named Umar Zahoor through Farah Gujjar. But when a legal notice was served [to Zahoor], a new story popped up that I have sold the watches.

“I have neither bought or sold any watches,” the PTI leader tweeted.

Bukhari went on to say that “even college students can make such cut-copy-paste audio”.

“A forensic audit [of the audio] should be immediately conducted. I am ready to pay for it,” he added.

Another purported audio clip of Bushra Bibi, the wife of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, surfaced on Friday, wherein she can be heard scolding someone over photographs of items from the Toshakhana presumably sent to her home.

The development comes days after a separate audio clip surfaced, purportedly featuring PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari and Bushra Bibi talking about the sale of wristwatches in Imran’s possession.

In the purported audio clip which surfaced today, Bushra Bibi speaks to a person named Inam on the telephone. “The things that came from the Toshakhana, did you ask Akbar to take photos and send them to you?”

“No, I didn’t say so,” Inam replies.

“So why were the photographs taken? Photos of things coming into the house aren’t taken, only of those going out of the house should be taken […] why are photos being taken of the things coming to me,” Bushra Bibi supposedly grills the man.

Inam denies telling anyone to take photos, to which Bushra Bibi again says that she was told he asked to take the photos. She then starts to speak to another person in the background. “Did you send the pictures to Inam?” she is heard saying to the other person.

At this, Inam interjects and says that he did receive the photos but he never said to take the photos in the first place.

“Did Inam ask you to take the pictures? What? What? Who said to take the pictures? Who? Why? Who, what proof? Photos of things coming inside the house shouldn’t be taken because they were coming to me. Photos should be taken of the things going outside,” Bushra Bibi purportedly tells the other person.

“Who takes photos of things coming inside the house? Proof of what? […] Did you ask me? Did you ask me? What do you mean by sorry? You guys have made a mockery of this house,” she says as she admonishes the other person. “The MS has trusted us. He didn’t take pictures, then who are you to do so?”

Turning back to Inam, Bushra Bibi then says, “And why did he send the pictures to you?”

Inam replies by saying: “Bibi, I don’t know […] I was told these things have come and we’re sending them inside. I said give it to Bibi, she’ll deal with it.”

“What is the point of this?” she then asks. “You will not come inside the house from now onwards. Do you understand?” she tells Inam.

Fawad says audios ‘merged, pasted’
PTI Vice President Fawad Chaudhry was questioned about the audio leak at a Lahore press conference and said it would “seem strange” for anyone if their private conversations with relatives were released to the public.

“Something which has no context or beginning or end. The majority of what is happening right now I will tell you is that different audios were recorded and then they were merged after copying and pasting,” he said while speaking to the media in Lahore.

Chaudhry said the various audio and video leaks had no authenticity since no one knew their background. “If anyone thinks they will gain political mileage through such audios or videos and you can prove Imran Khan as corrupt then come out of the world of fantasy and enter reality,” he added.

Meanwhile, PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz, while reacting to the audio clip, said: “A highly trained gang of swindlers and stealers.”

A series of audio recordings have surfaced of late, allegedly featuring the leadership of the PTI and PML-N holding informal conversations never meant to be heard by the public.

Pathetic human being

Former prime minister Imran Khan’s wife Bushra Bibi filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday seeking to preempt her possible arrest and details of all the cases including undisclosed FIRs registered against her.

Filed through Advocate Mushtaq Ahmad Mohal, her petition contended that after ‘illegal’ removal of her husband from the office of the prime minister, the political victimisation against her, her husband and other members of the family started by the federal and provincial governments, and law enforcement agencies with mala fide and ulterior motives lodged many false and frivolous FIRs against the petitioner and her husband on the direction of the governments.

It pleaded that the respondents including FIA, NAB, police and ACE have been keeping the FIRs in secret so the petitioner could not approach the courts for grant of pre-arrest bail.

The petition argued that the respondents’ act of not disclosing the registered cases against the petitioner to her rather concealing them is illegal, unlawful, and violative to fundamental rights.

It asked the court to declare the act of the respondents as illegal and restrain them from arresting the petitioner in any undisclosed case or inquiry. It also urged the court to order the respondents to submit details of all cases registered against the petitioner.

The hearing of the petition is fixed before the court of Justice Alia Neelum.

ISLAMABAD: A district and session court in Islamabad on Thursday extended the interim bail of Bushra Bibi, former first lady and wife of PTI Chairman Imran Khan, in the Toshakhana case until September 12, ARY News reported.

Bushra appeared before Additional Sessions Judge Tahir Abbas Sipra’s court along with her lawyers Salman Safdar, Intezar Panjotha and Naeem Panjotha.

During the hearing, the investigation officer (IO), who also appeared in the court, prayed to the judge to allow the arrest of former first lady, adding her audio had already been sent to the Federal Investigation Agency for the forensic.

Bushra’s lawyer Salman Safdar, on the other hand, complained to the court that investigators called his client and made her sit for hours. “My client has already told them that the audio in question was not hers,” he added.

The judge asked when the case was related to fake receipts, where did the audio came from? He asked the IO to confine himself to text of the FIR.

The IO requested the court to give time to match Bushra’s voice with the audio.

At this, the court adjourned the case’s hearing until September 12.

ISLAMABAD: The defence ministry has denied any involvement in the recording and leaking of telephone conversations between government officials and other prominent personalities.

The ministry made this statement on Monday in its response submitted to the Islamabad High Court (IHC), which was hearing petitions filed by former first lady Bushra Bibi and Najam Saqib, the son of former chief justice of Pakistan Saqib Nisar.

The two were allegedly featured in purported telephonic conversations, recordings of which were leaked on social media.

The interior ministry and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority also submitted their replies before the IHC.

Justice Babar Sattar, who was hearing the case, remarked that the replies show the government has no means to record telephonic conversations.

He sought a detailed report from the government and warned the court could implead Inter-Services Intelligence, Military Intelligence, Intelligence Bureau and the Federal Investigation Agency as respondents in the case.

The reply by the government submitted in the court was termed unsatisfactory by the judge.

Bushra Bibi’s counsel told the court that FIA had summoned the former first lady multiple times for her voice-matching test after which she filed the appeal seeking a restraining order.

Justice Sattar observed he could not stop an ongoing inquiry and suggested to the counsel he could file a petition against any violation of the fundamental rights of the petitioner.

Ms Bushra had also criticised the media for broadcasting the leaked conversation and claimed that it tarnished her reputation.

Her petition stated, “the alleged audio leaks and ulteriorly motivated discussions on the electronic and print media were orchestrated and manoeuvred in order to impair the dignity, integrity and reputation of the petitioner and her husband, the then prime minister of Pakistan.”

Bushra Bibi may be arrested in near future

ISLAMABAD: Bushra Bibi, wife of jailed PTI Chairman Imran Khan, may find her in serious trouble in the near future.

Informed sources said that the NAB is cross checking certain pieces of “evidence”, which if confirmed will change the status of Bushra Bibi from a “witness” to “accused”.

The sources said that the Bureau has received some fresh evidence, which is being cross checked. If it gets confirmed, the sources said Bushra Bibi will become an accused of the NAB and may be arrested as well.

The evidence, it is said, pertains to some financial transactions that Bushra Bibi allegedly received. The latest report, leaked to the media and the follow-up press conferences on the subject by PMLN and MQM, about Farah Shahzadi are also a prelude to some added problems for Imran Khan.

Meanwhile, the NAB has also accelerated its probe towards conclusion in Imran Khan’s alleged corruption cases - Toshakhana and UK’s NCA (National Crime Agency) £190 million. The NAC’s £190 case is also known as the Al-Qadir Trust case. According to the sources, the Bureau may soon conclude these probes and decide about filing of references against Imran Khan. On Thursday, news about the alleged corruption of Farah Shahzadi was reported by different TV channels while quoting government sources. Later, PMLN’s Atta Tarar held a detailed press conference on Farah’s alleged corruption and linked her with Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi.

It was claimed that Farah’s declared and non-declared assets had grown by a staggering Rs4,520 million from 2017 to 2020. It was reported, “The government sources released a public report on Thursday, alleging Farah Gogi did massive corruption during the PTI government. Over Rs14 billion are lying in 102 bank accounts of Farah Gogi, her husband Ahsan Jamil Gujjar and their partners. The declared and non-declared assets of Farhat Shahzadi alias Farah Gogi increased by Rs4,520 million from 2017 to 2020.”

The media reported that after the UK’s National Crime Agency returned 190 million pounds to the PTI government on Dec 3, 2019, Gogi got land on July 19, 2021, measuring 240-kanal registered in her name in return for that money. This precious land was transferred to Farah Gogi allegedly as a bribe, the media report said, adding in return for that bribe, the PTI government did not pursue a damages case worth Rs460 billion against a real estate tycoon.

In April this year, The News investigative journalist Fakhar Durrani had reported that the wealth of Farhat grew exponentially within the first three years since prime minister Imran Khan formed his government. The total declared assets of Farhat Shahzadi grew four times from Rs231 million in 2017 to Rs971 million in 2021. Her filing in 2018 was nil. It was reported by The News that her declared assets before Imran Khan came into power were reported to be worth Rs231,635,297 (Rs231 million) in 2017. However, within the first three years of Imran Khan’s government Farah bought several properties in different cities and made investments worth hundreds of millions of rupees in different business sectors.

Farah Khan, as per the documents, also availed herself of whitening of black money scheme (Tax Amnesty Scheme) in 2019 during Imran Khan’s government and declared assets worth Rs328 million under the Tax Amnesty Scheme 2019.

The documents further show that Farah Khan bought some luxurious properties in Lahore and Islamabad, including a villa in a posh sector of Islamabad. As per the documents, Farah Khan declared a 933 square yards house in Islamabad’s Sector F-7/2, which she bought for Rs195 million.

Bushra Bibi’s name placed on ECL in £190m scandal case

The interior ministry on Monday placed former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan’s Bushra Bibi name on the Exit Control List (ECL) in £190m NCA scandal case.

The decision comes after, the accountability court on November 11 changed the status of former first lady Bushra Bibi from a witness to an accused on the basis of evidence. She will be investigated at the NAB office on November 13 as an accused.

Sources said that during the initial investigation, Bushra Bibi was being called as a witness. She has been made an accused in light of the evidence, the NAB sources further said.

In case of non-cooperation during the investigation, the NAB can also seek Bushra Bibi’s arrest from the court.

The NAB is also expected to file the reference in court soon.

NAB grills Bushra Bibi over Al-Qadir Trust, UK funds

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Monday asked Bushra Bibi, the wife of former prime minister Imran Khan, whether she had attended any Islamic teaching courses and from where she received her education.

According to sources in NAB, the ex-PM’s wife appeared before the anti-graft watchdog and faced the investigation team regarding the 140 million pound Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, where she was asked more than 10 questions.

She remained with NAB’s investigation team for over one-and-a-half hours.

Ms Bushra was also questioned about her role in Al-Qadir Trust and whether she received a salary as a trustee.

She was asked whose brainchild the trust and Al-Qadir University were, and who had selected the venue for the university.

She was also questioned about her friend Farhat Shehzadi, who is one of the accused in the case and has fled abroad. Ms Bushra was asked whether she was satisfied with Ms Shehzadi’s financial affairs and her role in the trust.

NAB Rawalpindi summoned Ms Bushra, and her close friend, Ms Shehzadi, on Monday in the 140 million pound Al-Qadir Trust corruption case.

A source in NAB told Dawn that Ms Bushra was to appear before anti-graft watchdog on Wednesday last week, but she did not turn up and her counsel sent a written request seeking next date for appearance in the next week. In this case Ms Bushra is already on bail till Nov 15.

In this case, the PTI chief and his wife were accused of obtaining billions of rupees and land worth hundreds of kanals from Bahria Town Ltd for legalising Rs50 billion that were identified and returned to the country by the UK during the previous PTI government.

NAB issues final notice to Bushra

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Rawalpindi has issued a final notice to Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, regarding allegations of irregularities related to Toshakhana gifts.

Bibi is accused of retaining gifts received during her visits to foreign countries as the prime minister’s wife. Instead of following official protocol by depositing these gifts in the Toshakhana, she purportedly kept them and contributed an amount less than the prescribed value into the national treasury.

The gifts in question include a locket, two rings, two ear tops, and two bracelets received on June 26, 2019. In 2020, she reportedly acquired a diamond-studded gold necklace, ring, bracelet, and ear tops. In 2021, a necklace, earrings, ring, and bracelet were added to the list.

Despite repeated requests for the return of these gifts, primarily jewelry, Bibi has not complied. NAB has now directed her to appear at the NAB Rawalpindi office on December 11 and bring these ornaments with her. Bibi has secured bail until December 13 in this case from the accountability court in Islamabad.
