A relatively rare phenomenon but it's suddenly become very common since December last year!

England don't know how to take wickets when the ball isn't swinging. You need pace or quality spin in these conditions and they have neither.

It seems like their tactics if batting first would be to bat the opposition out of the game and demoralizing the opposition but in these instances where teams lose first after scoring 400+ suggests the pitches must be extremely flat and then it can be demoralizing in the 2nd innings knowing you done well in the 1st innings and still didn't take a lead.

There bowlers tend to struggle in conditions there not use to. Lack of swing, lack of spin and lack of pace just make up the death of there bowling. England players can't play against opposition that tend to have a better understanding of the pitches, well obviously they won't as there the away team but with this being said you would expect them to be better than they way they have played.

Well the pitches have to be flat to begin with for them to score 400+.

Except that when they are that flat their bowlers can't bowl the opposition out!

People keep talking about bowling when England is losing all their games on pitches where they should at least draw the game.

Indian matches were played on flat pitches and they scored big in first inning only to choke 2nd time.

Damning stuff this! Makes Pakistan look pretty good! (ok we never score 400 :) )

That's the influence of scoreboard pressure. But yes the the batting lineup is a mess too. They've never replaced Strauss and without Trott and Pietersen - they've lost two batsmen capable of scoring daddy hundreds.

Even their two main batsmen are flawed - Cook has always struggled against quality attacks while Root has a conversion problem.

They could get away with it with a strong batting line but the current one is their weakest.... well, ever.

Their batting away from home is Pretty mediocre and their bowlers are inconsistent in their performance.

Shows that on flat pitches they can't compete. There bowlers lack vartiey and they don't have a quality spinner. Whilst there batting line up can't bat for long periods of time other than Bairstow and Cook. Roots runs usually come at a good strike rate.

The bowling is the main cause of this. It is looking seriously limp at the moment. 400 has always been the stock competitive score in Test cricket - if you get 400 you are well in the game. Even if the opposition is 350-3 in response then you can still get them out for 450 and fight back.... many Test matches have been won this way.

That is of course presuming that you have some decent bowlers!!

In the recent past we have maybe not produced all-time great bowlers but we have always offered “different” bowlers - Flintoff with his beastly match-turning spells, Jones with his reverse swing, Harmison and Tremlett with their steepling bounce, Finn with his fast pace, Swann with his devilish turners, Gough with his laddish charisma.

Even less celebrated guys like Hoggard (in South Africa), Sidebottom (in New Zealand) and Monty (in India) had their special days in the England shirt, where they made big contributions to famous victories.

Presently though, all we have are dour fast-medium bowlers and mediocre part-time off-spinners. Aside from Jimmy, there seems to be no quality and no heart to go around.

We are not going to bowl anyone out in foreign conditions with these blokes I’m afraid.

While not as many as England, we also lost the MCG Test last year by an innings after posting 400. What makes it worse is that large parts of that match was affected by rain.

England are on the verge of breaking their all-time record of most defeats in a row away if they lose the next test.

They might match the record breaking terrible Indian team from 2012.

Yes, scoreboard pressure is huge. But getting out for 200 when batsmen from other team has just scored triple century and double century means these batsman are just inept.

You can always be sure that this bowling attack won't get flogged if there is help from the pitch. It's flat pitches where they are struggling.

But you can't trust their batsmen even on flat pitches, forget bowler friendly pitch. This means their batting is harming more than their bowling.

Most of their batsmen are tailenders in 2nd inning.

No one from the current team averages more than 37 in 2nd inning outside England. How is team going to compete with such batting line up?

Root their best batsman is yet to score a century in 2nd inning outside home.

Their losses at Chennai and Mumbai were ridiculous. How can they be bowled out of 195 on a pitch where Jayant Yadav had just scored a century. In the match when Nair scored a triple, pitch was as easy as it can get, but suddenly England came to bat and lost all wickets out of nowhere.
