Nineteen years after they made their Test debut against India, Bangladesh will play their maiden five-day contest under lights against the same opposition, at Kolkata's Eden Gardens.

Overview

India v Bangladesh, 2nd Test
Eden Gardens, Kolkata
Friday, 22 November; 1:00pm local, 7:30am GMT

India and Bangladesh will become the ninth and 10th nations to play the pink-ball Test, after Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies, South Africa, England, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. Eleven Tests have been played under lights so far, and Australia have been the most successful, winning five out of five.

India will go into the Test with heaps of confidence, leading the ICC World Test Championship standings with 300 points. They last lost a Test series at home in 2012; since then, they have won 11 on the trot. They have four batsmen in the top 10 in the MRF Tyres ICC Test Rankings for Batting, with three players – Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ajinkya Rahane – in the top five. They also have three players in the top ten in the bowling rankings, including Ravindra Jadeja, who ranks second among all-rounders.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh, who suffered a heavy defeat in the opening Test, will now also have to contend with the absence of 12th man Saif Hassan, their reserve opener, who has been ruled out of the second Test due to a finger injury. The visitors will go into the game having lost four Tests in a row, with their last series victory coming against West Indies at home in 2018. With the bat, they will rely heavily on the experience of skipper Mominul Haque, Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim, while Abu Jayed's promising returns from the first game make him one to watch out for.

Remember the last time

India continued their rampant run in home Tests with an innings-and-130-run win in Indore. After Bangladesh elected to bat, the hosts' fast bowlers – led by Mohammed Shami's 3/27 – bundled them out for just 150.

Mayank Agarwal then smashed his third hundred – and second double – in four Tests. His 243, off just 330 balls, contained eight sixes – the joint-highest by an Indian in a Test innings. India declared on 493/6, and were not required to bat again, as Shami and R Ashwin claimed seven wickets between them to dismiss Bangladesh for 213 in their second innings.

What they said

Virat Kohli, India captain: "Our focus is to take Indian cricket higher and higher. The motivation has been right, the intent has been right and we are going to keep pushing in that direction. The pink-ball Test is going to be exciting. It's going be a landmark event for Indian cricket and Indian Test cricket."

Mehidy Hasan, Bangladesh spinner: "I think we all are excited to play the day/night Test with a pink ball for the first time. That's a matter of huge excitement. We remain normal and take the preparation that we usually take before any match."

Conditions

No rain is expected in Kolkata through the Test. Eden Gardens has been conducive to spinners over the years. India opener Rohit Sharma has a spectacular record at the venue – 548 runs across formats, at an average of 78.28.

Day game or D/N game - bangladesh will get slaughtered here.

Why is India even playing against this minnow team. But India would destroy any team at the moment exactly like Bangladesh except the only team I see challenging india would be Australia. But honestly why does kohli want more people to come to test matches when he’s playing oppositions like these. This match fight finish in 2 days not even three.

I hope umesh gets 6 in 6 balls and india bat and score 200 and declare and get Bangladesh out for 50 and finish the match today

This is a pink ball test so what are India doing here? If we blast out BD before lights come on, we will have to bat under lights!! Junaids Your thoughts?

BD has to wait another 19 years to be invited to India again after this unprecedented test performance.

Every team gets demolished ,destructed in india. All top teams test matches gets over in 3 or 3 and half days in India.

Liton da not understanding the game, and upsetting the nice array of ducks in the scorecard with his wristy hits to the boundary...

Jadeja in, now to try and relax and score some runs. few boundaries will be useful

18.4 4 Jadeja to Liton Das, FOUR runs,

Got one, Well done Liton my boy! I will send you 100 taka to your paypal right now.

Fist of all these guys are not able to put bat to ball. and if they do then wicket keeper becomes superman and takes flying catches.

All depends on Liton Das, he should attack Jadeja and take the score to 100

Shami replaces jadeja after just one over. India want to bat before tea itself I feel.

India should declare their 1st inning, without batting at all. Let Bdesh bat twice, and perhaps India will have a target of 200 or something to chase in final inning.

Liton Das is taking on the India bowlers singlehandedly. WHat a tremendous lion hearted perfromance. smashing boundaries like it were nothing.

Just 27 more to get (73-6)

Ishant had to resort to cheap bodyline tactics to take out the maestro! I hope he returns after the fall of the next wicket

I think Liton can sleep for 20 minutes, get some oil massage and come back to bat. Tea break has come at an opportune time.

I was hoping to see India bowl... and out fast men did deliver ...

Amazing to see our quicks operate now a days with red/ pink cherry, always a delight. How things have changed!! :)

Well played Liton... looks like he is the only one showing some courage out there, hope he is back to bat :thumb

crowd chanting Langda desh:wahab2

Absolute filth and low class!!! Only shows how these people have been brought up. They are as pathetic as those people in foreign countries who use abusive words for India as country.

3.10pm Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and VVS Laxman are in the ground, dressed in dapper suits, having a chat with Star Sports. Not sure the fans can hear a word of what's being said, but they're cheering and roaring every time Tendulkar has the mic. Now, they belt out the 'Saaaaaaaachhhhhin Saaaaaaaaaacchhhhhin' roar.

Makes me feel good :)

BD are no match to India currently in Test format.

Disappointed with Mushfiq's performance. He needed to bat well.

Helmets need to be better. These helmets barely protect batsmen.

BD batsmen need to learn how to play bouncer well.

Boring match, why people wasted their money to come to see this match?
It's better we could have host pink ball test match against England in 2021.

AUS win 90% of their matches @ home every year in test cricket. Why do people come to watch their team?

I think they come to see records being broken.

Imagine witnessing a Kohli triple hundred.

They are crossing 100! I thought they would be all out for around 80.

They should keep on slogging and hope they reach 150-200.

Alhamdulillah, Bangladesh has scored 3rd hundred of the series. It was quite a wise decision to have few hours sleep .... before the all important ACC cup final tonight.

Will that be telecasted?

Well ACC cup does show a glimpse for the future which seems to be much brighter than present.

Going through the CI commentary section, have to say that I would have never thought reading such fast bowling descriptions in Indian innings. Amazing what proper planning and system can do and this guy Varat Arun was an “Indian Tundler”, and a veggi eater!!!!

Junior boys are good, trust me - I have seen many of them live in nets. Whenever I go back home, I try to attend junior cricket more that senior cricket. But, they are not developing after a certain level, and there is not enough diversity of wickets/bowling either to practice against. This series is a bit different, because India categorically summed up BD team and prepared wickets that totally alien to the boys.

We’ll improve definitely, but reaching at the highest level needs lot more, lot lot more 360 degree planning & execution from grass root level.
