India to host men’s Asia Cup 2025 in T20 format

India will host the men’s Asia Cup in the T20 format next year, whereas the tournament will be played in a 50-over format in Bangladesh in 2027.

According to the Invitation for Expressions of Interest for the sponsorship rights document issued by the Asian Cricket Council, a total of 13 matches will be tournament that will feature six teams - India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and a sixth team will be picked through a qualifying event.

While the dates are yet to be finalised, sources have indicated that it could be held sometime in September, once the monsoon season is over in the country.

As per International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Future Tours Program (FTP) 2023-27, India has a packed calendar next year, as it will have a limited overs series against England in January-February, followed by the Champions Trophy in February-March.

Once the IPL is over, the team will tour England from June to August before heading to Bangladesh for three ODIs and as many T20Is. So, the Asia Cup is expected to be held after the Bangladesh series and before the two-match Test series against the West Indies in October. However, sources in the BCCI clarified that no decision has been taken about the possible venues, yet.

While there will be no men’s Asian tournament in 2026, the Women’s Asia Cup will be played that year in a T20 format, followed by the men’s U-19 and Emerging Teams Asia Cup tournament.

Last year, the Asia Cup was played in a hybrid model with Pakistan hosting a few matches at home, while India played all its fixtures in Sri Lanka. Under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, India went on to clinch the title, defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

Rubbish tournament absolutely pointless , waste of time , Pakistan should send their A team for this tournament

Only 4 teams have a serious chance of winning the AC, in no particular order:

  1. Afg
  2. Ind
  3. Pak
  4. SL
Rest are there to make up the numbers and for the dance moves....

Are you neglecting Bangladesh? You can't write off Bangladesh when it comes to AC

Afghanistan will play well on a particular day. But in the very next match, they could play badly. Afghanistan needs more experience to play well in a full tournament consistently.

Another massive beating popping up.

Pakistan's t20 team is it's absolute weakest cause in odi atleast saud, Agha ans Abdullah shafiq while not ideal and not exactly up to par qith modern standards provide some flexibility and fakhar is an odi gun.

Whereas in t20, saim, Usman Khan, Azam Khan and all the MO lullei baz are completly useless and pretty much walking wickets.

“Well done, Jay Shah. You’ve killed two birds with one stone. But Basit Ali kills three birds with one stone. Here’s some free advice: try to shift the Asia Cup to another country. Jay Shah could take a U-turn after my show.”

“Jay Shah knew that India would have to go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy; otherwise, Pakistan wouldn’t come for the Asia Cup. Pakistan won’t even go for the T20 World Cup if India says no to the Champions Trophy. To hell with the hybrid model. There could also be another lollipop of India adopting a hybrid model for the Asia Cup so that Pakistan do the same for the Champions Trophy.”

“I agree Jay Shah is very sharp, but the guy in front of him, the current PCB chairman, is also in the same league. Now you will have to come forward openly and declare that the Asia Cup is in India, so we would have to go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy”

Bruh they may be more of a challenge. As it stands, India may as well just keep the trophy and organize a bilateral series with Afghanistan.

At least then the outcome wont be foregone.

Another hard reality check incoming for PCB with regards to Asia Cup.
Its not the 90s anymore when we had just 3 teams of worth. Afghanistan, Bangladesh are competitive enough to make it India plus 3 decent teams and the likes of Nepal, UAE and Hong Kong making up the numbers.
PCB neither has the financial argument in its favor and nor about depleted quality.
If Asian cricket moves ahead without PCB, where will Pakistan cricket be left??

If PCB has scheduling issues for PSL then why not refuse participation in Asia Cup and hold PSL, Asia Cup is a complete gimmick tourney

If they are hell bent on organising it then have some creativity make it knockout from game 1, like Total 8 teams, 1v8, 2v7,3v6,4v5
Winners play SF or may be Eliminators, get the seeding sorted through previous three tourney standings.

The whole "hostile nation" and "respect for Mumbai victims" excuses are already on flimsy ground after inviting Pakistan to the World Cup. It would be completely put to bed if they invite Pakistan for an inconsequential Asia Cup.

Pakistan is arguably the 4th weakest side in the T20 format in Asia, and you want them to send A team?

Pakistan don't even send A team against proper minnows.

What is he even saying?

Then how did they issue visas in the 2023 World Cup?

wasnt that a same team travelling to play in India?

ICC World event. Pakistanis were given visa for the hockey WC but denied for Cricket Asia Cup.

But Jay Shah may have some idea if visas would be granted or not.

Pakistan has to step up its game if they want to compete for the big trophy in 2025, that is the Asia Cup in Bharat.

Pakistan always bottle the asia cup
I'm surprised we've only won it twice.
India will win it, final will be against Bangladesh or Sri Lanka. Pakistan will beat Afghanistan by 1 wicket and celebrate like never before whilst losing to Bangladesh.

Pakistan should not bother playing this cup. And no it has nothing to do with playing in India

It has to do with the fact Pakistan is in no condition to compete and is in for a beating.

They might as well just save face and use the excuse of boycott. It'll save them from a humilating thrashing.

Forget India, They'll get thrashed left and right by Bangladesh, Sri lanka and Afghanistan

Side note: about time Pakistan takes a stance and doesn't bottle it like in WC23
Don't travel to India if they don't come for CT25. Even if it has no effect on India financially its about taking a stance for the sake of dignity.
It's not like our cricket is thriving atm that we would miss out on something.

When a team can perform great on one day and bad next day.....Naseer Hussain calls this "One minute up , one minute down". In some cases (for feel good factor) it is also called mercurial unpredictable team.
Ok but its understood if its Afghanistan it is labelled ''inconsistency''.
All about feel good factor.

The 2025 Asia Cup is set to take place in September, with the tournament being played in the T20 format in preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is considering Sri Lanka or the UAE as neutral venues due to political tensions between India and Pakistan.

According to a Cricbuzz report, fans could witness up to three India-Pakistan clashes during the tournament. Originally set to be hosted in India, the tournament will now have BCCI as the official host, but matches will be played at a neutral venue.

To avoid the controversy surrounding the Champions Trophy 2025, where India's matches were moved to Dubai due to government clearance issues, ACC is keen on finalizing a neutral venue from the outset.

The tournament will feature eight teams—India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman, and Hong Kong. Nepal, which played in 2023, failed to qualify this time. Teams will be split into two groups, with the top two progressing to the Super Four and eventually to the final.

I already said BCCI will not host asia cup in india so no problem for pakistan or anyone.

BCCI is always think 2step ahead of PCB

Dubai says hello

Good we don't need neutral venue drama , why make effort for globalisation of game and host it in Malaysia or Singapore or China

Pakistan should ask for neutral venues. If Pakistan go to India for this, they would look weak. :inti

How is playing a home series outside home not a defeat or a problem? India just lost the negotiations, let's admit it and move on.

India hasn't hosted Asia cup at home since 1991. India always used natural vanues to host the Asia cup.

:kp

It's better to prefer Lanka. It will be a good practice, if India is going to play pak at Lanka in next t20 wc .Any how Lanka stadium atmosphere is too good.

PCB have a great chance to boycott to play on India, pls don’t thing they are taking revenge of India’s stance of not playing in Pakistan CT25, but to cover-up their schoolboy Pakistan team

Fully agreed.

This is the biggest botched negotiation in the history of Bharatiya cricket.

All the trolls sharing memes of Jay Shah making Pakistan team travel, where will you hide when you would also be travelling to Sri Lanka , Dubai for your home world cups in future. Given how gigantic cricket is in our country.
