Team news: Virender Sehwag is in for Murali Kartik (like it was in the previous day-nighter in Mohali). Pakistan too have left out their left-arm spinner, Abdur Rahman, and chosen Rao Iftikhar Anjum. Malik said he would open the batting, putting to rest the speculation over Afridi taking first strike.

PAK must score 280+ to have a chance with an extended Indian batting lineup that has been strengthened with the inclusion of Sehwag.

Pakistan should have picked fawad alam to play!

ffs selection is a joke! wait till hes out of form and then i bet he will be picked!

india have a LONG batting line up. we'll need 300+

whats the average score at the ground?

This is bull. No Alam or Sarfaraz.

And Malik's prediction scores needed are always WAY off, we need 320+ it's a nice pitch.

we should have bowled first ... this indian batting line up can chase down any score less then 300 with ease.

should have put the pressure on them to score runs first ..

"Kamran Akmal went through a rigorous practice session before the game," says George. "Geoff Lawson simulated catching practice and he also stood up to the stumps, practising his foot movement against the spinners."

Fawad and safraz will play against zimbo and then the usual tried and tested failures will be recalled for Aussie series. its a joke!

we all agree AJ. now give it a rest - weve got a game to win

Its a shame akmal was past fit, good news for india!

"The people manning the scoreboard seem pretty confident that Kamran Akmal will open with Salman Butt. They've already got their names up."

We need to be aggressive and worry about what we need to do not what the opposition can do!

I hope malik does open its about time he leads from the front!

Wasn't there a dew factor to contend with in the second innings?

We have just tossed away the series. The dew is going to totally screw us over when we bowl....unless we can get to 330 or so, India will win today.

Butt was always going to fail today....law of averages

Afridi doesn't have the skill or mental strength to open an innings. He just isn't good enough.

Can't believe we are still talking about Afridi and Opening in the same sentence.

Anyway, If Butt went because of law of averages then expect Malik to hit a hundred.

Zaheer to bowl now

PAK 0/1

Interesting decision to day 1st in a D/N game(especially when he knew that there would be a lot of dew)

Oh well not the best of starts as per usual.

Need Malik to hit a quick 5o here because YK looks like to play a slow anchor role early on.

Oh here we go again ... collapse.... blah blah blah! Shut up! My god.

Stop being so negative. Pak tend to do better when they don't get a good start for some reason anyway. So take it as it comes.

Anjuman called all-rounder and is listed to bat at 11. very strong batting lineup there

No good decisions on winning the toss, Pakistan has four pacers so dew should not effect too much

Funny that they decided to bat first
Well I think the idea is to try and bat India out and put them under the pressure of runs. Right move I think, dew or no dew. Pak has to win this and batting first is best bet. Also we aren't reliant on spin like India.

Balls already starting to keep low. i think 250 would be good total here...

Nice timing by Malik no power but ball raced to boundary very quickly

Ball is staying very, very low.

Another reason why it was a good decision to bat first. Dew and and even more uneven bounce later on with 4 pacers...hmm..

Dew on the outfield means..wet ball...means pacers can't grip the seam as well as they'd like..means more extras and loose deliveries.. team batting second definitely have an advantage..

looks like Pakistan has shot themselves in the foot by batting first here.. except Malik's "Taking it head on", nothing about batting first in Nov in India is any good.. India lost in Mohali even after 321.. I dont see Pakistani reaching 300 anyway..

I hope the Pak team doesn't have the same outlook and "I give up" attitude as some of the fans here!
