Now I wasn't watching but according to our esteemed friends from across the border in the match thread, Dhoni was getting booed by the crowd after his less than impressive innings today.

It was a pretty pathetic knock, let's be honest but does he deserve to be booed?

Add your thoughts :misbah4

100% right. They should boo him in every match until he finally retires.

Its about time dhoni makes the decision.

For fans, team above than any individual.

The reaction is an overall expression of the frustration. Not just for the match. The longer he continues, the harsher it will get.

Deserved IMO.Nobody is bigger than sport and Desi players should understand when their time is up, they need to go.

They can do whatever they like.

Booing at Dhoni and today's situation shows they have a brain.

Story of some of my fellow indian fans. Worshippers of the rising sun. Pandya is the new sun these days.

He DESERVES it. I am not a fool to pay thousands of bucks, just to watch someone doing a net session, on a nice sunny Saturday.

Absolutely. He is using his legacy and close relationship with Kohli and Shastri to keep far better and younger players away from the team which may ultimately cost India dearly at the World Cup next year.

I knew MSD would play pathetic innings the moment Kohli got out.

He was done and dusted 4 yrs ago. Should have retired after last world cup.

But hey, our poor captain cannot make decisions and need a Budda in the side to lead the troops when the going gets tough. :))

MSD definitely is not 38. He must be 40 or 41.

Yes. Because game is bigger than player. Players come and go but game goes on & on.......

Dhoni must except the truth & retire with pride.

Dhoni can bat how he wants to, he could have had some daal in the middle of the pitch for 20 minutes when the ball was not in play for all I care ! he has given this sport his blood, sweat and tears; he is a KING and should be held in the highest regard and respected at all times given his legend and greatness.

The booing was absolutely pathetic and despicable, an ODI is played over 100 overs; why are you going to boo and show disrespect if there was a little dead period when the game had been completely lost for India, he was just getting some overs under his belt in prep for some big games in the near future, harmless cricket really. It was just disgusting in my opinion, both England and India fans should be ashamed of themselves including the so called pundits and that coconut Isa Guha who advocates whateve her masters feed her.

Disagreeing with all of this is like disrespecting ones own father, that's who Dhoni is to everyone, Daddy ! show Daddy some respect or else he will get the sandals out !

He acts entitled. He thinks everybody has to bow down to him till he retires. People come to the stadium expecting someone trying to compete. Not throwing the towel with one hour to go. It is pathetic to see Virat Kohli is laughing it off. Unless it was team's plan to lose the match to take the game to third match (in that case everybody is condemnable) selectors have to step in. Kohli's obsession with older players first Yuvraj, Gambhir then Raina, Dhoni is getting a bigger problem by the day.

Although, you are king of hyperbole but i gotta agree with you. Indian fans need to do away with the disrespectful behavior. Whats the point of booing a legend? Its not like he was solely responsible for the loss.

Go down swinging. Not waving white flag in 35th over.

Who will give up chase with 5 wickets down in 35th over? MSD of course.

Yeah I just finished watching it now on Channel 5 and there were slow hand claps too.

The chase wasn't completely lost when he came in but that innings killed off any hopes.

Say goodbye to Kohli's good run as captain without MSD.

i wouldn't mind. As it has been put above, no individual is above than the team. If kohli isn't suitable for the leader position, then he should be removed. There's no compulsion from any fan that Kohli must stay as captain.

It was a strange innings. The morning moment he came to bat, there was no desire or intent to win it. He was happy taking occasional singles when the required run rate was crossing 20. This should be completely unacceptable to the team management and the disgust was all written on Kohli's face when he finally got out.

The usual sensitive and sentimental posts by our beloved friends across the border.

They should understand no player is bigger than cricket irrespective of what they have done to his country in the past.

Booing is perhaps a bit harsh but he did play a strange innings yesterday. I think next years WC will be the perfect time for him to say goodbye. He looks like an old man now with all that white hair and stubble. Hasn't aged well at all.

Agreed. Ungrateful fans. They deserve con men like Piyush Chawal wicketkeeping for them. Dhoni is a legend.

Same people defending the booing are the ones who praised for Misbah when he played a similar innings, reasoning being, "he gave you guys a respectful loss".

Well here's your respectful loss :msd

Dhoni has done this in many games. Either team loses or the batsman at the other end has to do it. Fans were right to boo. Dhoni deserves a kick. Hopefully he will do better next time.

Dhoni today is one shameless old man in this team. Some of his knocks have been pure embarrassment and he deserves to be kicked out. Like he said in movie MSD, team comes first and useless buddhas need to retire.

Has to be the worst player outside sub continent.. He is one player who has somehow overachieved in his career.

If we are chasing anything > 5.5 RR these days he will do zilch, he has become more of a supporting player like if Pandya or someone sticks around he will hold one end up. Even while batting first, if we collapse he will come in and take us to 230-40, @ 37 we can'r expect much from a player who relies on hand eye co ordination. I am sure he will be gone in another 12 months max from all forms. IPL he will stick around for another 2/ 3 seasons and will take up mentoring CSK.

Didn’t expect such an innings from him. He knows how to bat aggressively. We saw that during the IPL. There he had to do it. Here he thinks he can get away with a slow approach. He’s showing all signs of someone who is afraid of losing his place in the team, hence this attempt to stay at the crease and accumulate runs. His “take the game deep” approach works in the IPL because NRR is a factor there. Here it isn’t.

I don’t think he should retire and booing might be a bit too much but he definitely should be criticised severely and it should reach his ears. He still has the skills. We should force him to bring his A game somehow. Forcing him to retire before the ‘19 WC would be a very bad idea.

What else the fans should do when a legendary finisher kills all the momentum, does not even show any intent to win but looks for a 30-40 to boost his average? I hope this continues in every match Dhoni bats, India or abroad, that is the only way to drive home the point that he is past by his sell by date now and should focus completely on IPL. Fans have given him enough love and respect for being a legend.

Dhoni should be booed every match so that he gets the message and retires, this selfish guy is blocking the place of young guys like Rishabh Pant and Ishan Kishan who could have been tried before the world cup. Mamoon : your thoughts?

So, Indian fans show mirrors to players when it's needed and not putting individuals over team cause. The claim made by some ppers against indian fans and their love of legends is wrong then. :23:

He played a similar innings in the west Indies 2 years ago, easy chase was made hard and India ended up losing the game.
