All fine and dandy, but what do we ever get back for this money?

more weapons and less toilet to fight Muslims of India by RSS?

Great, India on its way to become one of the true force in the world, they just need to get rid of extremists from politics and media to get there.

What the heck is a lakh corore... my God if you are talking in English just use millions and billions.

A statewise breakdown, especially in per capita terms would show exactly where the rest of it is

is it significant amount, the way India's economy is going in upward trajectory, I thought it would be more?

It's 4-4.5 times more than that of Pakistan, despite them having 6 times more population. Their remittances are 3.5 times more.

The significant point of difference, their Foreign Direct Investment is nearly 20 times more than that of Pakistan. This is something Imran Khan needs to work at.

Where do you get these made up numbers from anyway?

$143 bn is about 12X Pakistan's $12B IT collection, not "4-4.5 times".

You really don't know what the Central Government provides for Indians?

Roads, bridges, railways (which is subsidized by the Central Government), defense forces to protect the country, subsidized food for the poor, various forms of pensions for the poor (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Social_Assistance_Scheme), a legal infrastructure to make commerce possible, etc. etc.

And yes, some of the money is also stolen by politicians and bureaucrats.

Keep in mind this is only income tax. Us middle class folks are also double taxed even if we buy a cup of chai and pay GST on the same.

Add all of that and the figure is gargantuan.

Some day we will reach perfection, and all our politicians and bureaucrats will be 100% honest. Till then we got to work with what we have.

Liberalization (removal of government controls) and introduction of electronic records has massively reduced the amount of corruption as a percentage of the GDP.

No one likes to pay tax but what is the alternative?

Also when it comes to tax revenue as a % of GDP India still have a long way to go.
