Whats the status with Duncan Fletcher?

Is he still officially the coach?

Who does everyone think the next India coach should be or should Duncan stay?

Also any chance of a local coach or will it be a foreign coach again?

Discuss.

Duncan isn't working for us. Ideal replacement should be Gary Kirsten, but for variety's sake, I would like to see an Indian taking over.

Gary has said he just cannot commit the time.

Otherwise he would never have quit the South Africa post.

Besides he wouldnt want to walk into the mess which the test team it considering he left it as World Champions in ODIs and #1 ranked test team.

I would love too see an Indian coach too.

Who was the last there was a full time Indian coach for the national team anyways?

Kapil maybe, I am not too sure.

Do ether have experience?

Dravid ive heard coaches an ipl team.

Ganguly does too?

Dravid was/is the coach of Rajasthan Royals if i'm not wrong.

Ganguly i don't think has coaching experience but he will be a great coach me thinks.

India should get in Stephen Fleming. He has been with IPl for years and comes as a solid coach who maintains low profile

Ravi shastri or Rahul dravid,
they will be best for India team, they can understand the mentality of their players. they can deal with them easily,
both have good cricketing brain too

the problem is see with these ipl coaches is that a full time role as a national team coach which competes in tests and LOI's is on a totally different planet than being coach for a 2-3 month period in a t20 tournament.

Sometimes I wonder whether it even matters who the coach is for a team filled with superstars which meets up for a few months every year and plays non stop.

Beyond basic strategies and stuff a coach cannot really have much impact

Which is why I would be hesitant on judging a quality of a coach through the T20 exploits of the team he manages

This is not an attack on Fleming btw. He, by all accounts, is a fantastic reader of the game and a level headed person so might be a top candidate anyways but my point is the fallacy in judging a coach through a t20 tournament

performance of Coaches depends upon Test and ODI skills, not T20 and especially those type of T20, which include those players who have been passed through infinite coaches, who dont need any coach btw.
Agree with You sir !

Duncan's contract is not renewed if i'm not wrong.I still believe Indian coaches aren't ready yet for it.
And we need someone on the lines of Dav Whatmore even though it didn't work for Pak i think he can work for us.
Stephen Fleming is another person i don't mind yet working from behind the guy has good strategies.

Wasn't it Lalchand Rajput?

I thought even Mohinder Amarnath coached India subsequently.

Dravid and Ganguly are both in the media now. They may not throw away their cushy and lucrative commentator jobs for that of a coach. Same with Ravi Shastri and Gavaskar.

And IMHO, it is a bad idea to have an Indian coach, no matter what the swadeshi brigade may think. Our chaps don't know how to respect our own. So it has to be a foreign coach.

Tom Moody or John Buchanan will be good choices.

Duncan Fletcher is a certified failure, fair to say.

Anybody but him for starters.

Ganguly had issues in the past with Dhoni, so don't think they will be able to work together. Ganguly and Kohli will not be compatible either because both are hot headed individuals who want to have their say in everything. With a strong personality like Shastri around, Ganguly is not needed.

Dravid is an YES man and will be no different from Fletcher. He can be a batting consultant at best but a BIG NO for head coach.

My vote, Stephen Fleming. He is already coaching CSK for many years now, understand Indian players very well, players respect him too and seems like an individual with immense knowledge.

RD or Sachin himself wouldn't be a bad option. I just don't see Ganguly as a good option, he likes to be in power and so does Kohli.

No, he was the selector. He got removed from selection panel by Srini when he demanded for Dhoni to be dethroned from the test captaincy.
I think you are talking about Amarnath applying for the Indian coach position but he got piped by Greg Chappel

That is correct. Thanks.

Apparently Kumble has been rubbing BCCI the wrong way, wonder if his contract won't be renewed.
