yeah i think someone will. But may not get a very large contract now. He struggled in UAE but i think it is more to do with wickets.
In India, he will a good asset as a number 3 or 4 batter.

IPL 2021 Retentions Highlights: Rajasthan Royals Release Steve Smith, Kings XI Punjab Drop Glenn Maxwell

Rajasthan Royals released Steve Smith ahead of the IPL 2021 auction, with Glenn Maxwell and Lasith Malinga let go by the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Mumbai Indians (MI) respectively as well.

MI further opted to release Nathan Coulter-Nile, Mitchell McClenaghan, Sherfane Rutherford, James Pattinson, Digvijay Deshmukh and Prince Balwant Rai.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) retained 12 players, with Moeen Ali, Aaron Finch, Isuru Udana the big names released by the Bangalore-based franchise.

Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to announce that his contract with the three-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has ended. The Chennai-based franchise released Kedar Jadhav, Piyush Chawla among the other big names barring Harbhajan.

Other franchises did not make very noteworthy omissions maintaining an emphasis on retaining the core.

The Indian Premier League franchises announced their retentions ahead of the mini-auction in February before the 2021 season. There were some big players released as Rajasthan Royals bid farewell to captain Steve Smith, with Sanju Samson set to lead the team in the upcoming edition. Aaron Finch, Glenn Maxwell, Lasith Malinga and Chris Morris were among some of the other big names let go of by their respective teams. Defending champions Mumbai Indians released seven players while retaining a majority of their core that helped them win in 2020, while last year's finalists Delhi Capitals let go of five players.

Apart from players who were released, the first trades ahead of the 2021 season happened between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore with Daniel Sams and Harshal Patel heading to the Virat Kohli-led team.

Rajasthan Royals appoint Sangakkara as director of cricket

One of the greats of the modern game, Sangakarra scored over 28,000 runs for Sri Lanka over a hugely successful 16-year career and has the highest Test batting average of any player in the last 46 years.

Sri Lankan batting great Kumar Sangakkara was on Sunday appointed as the director of cricket by Indian Premier League franchise Rajasthan Royals for the upcoming season.

Sangakkara, the current President of the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), will be responsible for overseeing the entire cricketing ecosystem of the franchise including coaching structure, auction plans and team strategy, talent discovery and development, as well as the development of the Royals Academy in Nagpur.

"To oversee the cricket strategy of a franchise in the leading cricket competition in the world, as well as building the development programs and cricketing infrastructure that will provide the future foundation of the IPL team's on-field success, is an opportunity that really motivated me," Sangakarra was quoted as saying in a media release.

He's someone who's shown great character both on and off the field and the values that one associates with him are the same which we embody here at Rajasthan Royals," Samson said.

Yes, it's happening. The new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is reportedly going to take place in India and not the United Arab Emirates, which served as the host last year and was always a back-up venue for this season as well.

The COVID-19 situation in India had first delayed the IPL by six months, then shifted to the UAE for the same reason.

According to a report in The Times of India, the BCCI has designated five venues across the city of Mumbai and in Pune The venues are Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne Stadium, DY Patil Stadium, Reliance Cricket Stadium in Navi Mumbai, and the Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) on the outskirts of Pune.

The report also suggested that the Sardal Patel Stadium in Motera could be venue for the knockouts of the league, like the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, at the back end of the month of May.

BCCI Treasurer on Saturday had suggested that the board is working with the government regarding vaccination and they are confident that IPL 2021 will indeed take place in India.

Speaking to the news agency PTI, Arun Singh Dhumal had said, "We are working on having the IPL in India and we are hopeful that we would be able to organize it. We are not even thinking of a back-up also at this point in time, we are wanting to do it here. India is probably safer than UAE at this point. Hopefully, the situation remains stable and keep improving and we will have it here."

The IPL will take place after the scheduled Vijay Hazare Trophy and Senior women's one-day tournament. The Ranji Trophy will not be happening this season, first time in 87 years, due to logistical hassles.

While the eight franchises announced their releases and retentions last week, the auction for the new season will be held on February 18 in Chennai.

India vs England: Ajinkya Rahane Says Indians Don't Share All Tricks With Overseas Players At IPLIndia vs England: Ajinkya Rahane said it's "very important" that Indian cricketers don't share all the tricks of the trade when they mingle with overseas players at the IPL.

The top England players like Jos Buttler, Jofra Archer and Ben Stokes may all be IPL regulars but it doesn't mean that they always get a sneak peek into a top Indian player's mindset or strategies. The IPL has made it easier for players across the globe to come closer and also exchange notes on each other's games while sharing the dressing room for two months. How much will that help England during the upcoming series?

Ajinkya Rahane was asked that question during the day. "See, we definitely play in the IPL, but Test cricket and IPL are completely different. We do know how their bowlers bowl here, but length (that one bowls) is completely different in Test cricket from what they are in white ball (formats)," Rahane replied.

"What we do in IPL, it's not like we tell them all the things and I think that is very important. Yes, we have played a lot of cricket together, but when you represent the country, it is all about how best you can give individually and as a team," Rahane said.

While he admitted that Archer and Stokes are key players for England, Rahane said one can't ignore the kind of balance that the opposition squad as a whole possesses.

"Ben Stokes and (Jofra) Archer, they are really good players. They did really well for England, so it is not about any individual. I think it is all about a team, England team, they are a very balanced outfit which did really well recently against Sri Lanka," said Rahane.

"So for us, what is important is that we plan against all their guys and just play as a team here and back our strengths."

he Indian Premier League auction - scheduled to be held in Chennai on February 18 - could see S. Sreesanth going under the hammer.

Returning from a seven-year suspension for his alleged involvement in the spot-fixing scandal, the speedster featured in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for Kerala this year and scalped four wickets. Sreesanth has set himself a base price of Rs 75 lakh.

Sportstar understands that Sreesanth is among the 1,097 players to have registered for the auction. While the franchises will now require to shortlist the players after which a trimmed final list will be put up. As of now, a total of 21 capped Indian players have registered for the event, along with 50 uncapped players who have played at least one IPL fixture.

“This will be a relatively smaller auction, where the franchises will be hoping to fix the loose ends and act accordingly. A lot of planning needs to be done on how to approach the auction in terms of strategies,” a senior franchise official said.

While most of the teams have already retained their core group, a few like Kings XI Punjab have some slots to fill and if each franchise was to have the maximum of 25 players in its squad, 61 players will be taken in the auction - of which up to 22 may be overseas players.

Kings XI Punjab goes into the auction with the biggest purse available at Rs 53.20 crore, followed by Royal Challengers Bangalore (Rs 35.90 crore), Rajasthan Royals (Rs 34.85 crore), Chennai Super Kings (Rs 22.90 crore), Mumbai Indians (Rs 15.35 crore), Delhi Capitals (Rs 12.9 crore). Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad have Rs 10.75 crore each.

No Root, Starc

According to reports, England captain Joe Root - who scored a century against India in Chennai on Friday - will not be part of the auction, along with Australian pacer Mitchell Starc. In the past too, Starc and Root have prioritised their international commitments over the IPL. “Since there has not been much cricket over almost a year, every cricketer is excited about the league and 21 English and 42 Australian players have registered for the league. This shows the importance of the tournament in the world,” a Board official said.

It is understood that Australian James Pattinson - who was drafted in by Mumbai Indians last year as a replacement for Lasith Malinga - too won’t be part of the auction. He was released by Mumbai Indians last month.

Shakib returns

A total of 11 players - Harbhajan Singh, Glenn Maxwell, Kedar Jadhav, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy, Mark Wood, Colin Ingram - have set themselves a high base price of Rs 2 crore.

Sheldon Cottrell, Marnus Labuschagne, Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav have set themselves a base price of Rs 1 crore.

Shakib, who faced a year-long suspension by the ICC last year, had missed out last year. He will be hungry to play but Bangladesh is scheduled to tour Sri Lanka around that time and his availability could be a factor.

Despite the big bucks, Maxwell had an abysmal season for Kings XI last year and was released.

Caribbean flavour

The IPL auction has drawn huge attention in the West Indies as a total of 56 players - including Cottrell - have signed up for the event. Even 30 players from Afghanistan have registered, however, it needs to be seen how many actually make it to the trimmed final list which is due next week.

Pujara, Arjun in the list too

India's Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara, too, has registered for Rs 50 lakh. For the last couple of auctions, Pujara had gone unsold.

Arjun Tendulkar, the son of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, has registered for the auction at a base price of Rs 20 lakh. He recently made his debut for Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy

The tournament is likely to begin in the first week of April and is expected to be played in India.

VIVO IPL 2021 Player Auction list announced

The VIVO IPL 2021 Player Auction list is out with a total of 292 cricketers set to go under the hammer in Chennai on February 18th, 2021. 1114 cricketers had initially registered for the auction. The final list was then pruned after the eight franchises submitted their shortlist of players.

INR 2 crore is the highest reserve price and two Indian players – Harbhajan Singh and Kedar Jadhav – and eight overseas players – Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Shakib Al Hasan, Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Liam Plunkett, Jason Roy & Mark Wood have chosen to be slotted in the highest bracket.

12 players are in the auction list with a base price of INR 1.5 crore. Hanuma Vihari and Umesh Yadav are the two Indian players in the list of 11 cricketers with a base price of INR 1 crore.

A total of 164 Indian players, 125 overseas players and 3 players from Associate Nations will be up for grabs in the VIVO IPL 2021 Player Auction in Chennai.

The Auction will start at 15:00 IST.

England's Test captain Joe Root on Friday said skipping the lucrative IPL auction for a third successive year was a "very difficult decision" and he made the call considering the national team's packed schedule this year. The IPL auction is scheduled on February 18 in Chennai with a total of 292 players set to go under the hammer including Root's compatriots Moeen Ali, Jason Roy and Mark Wood. "It's a very difficult decision. I am desperate to be part of an IPL season and hopefully a few more beyond," Root, who scored a match-winning 218 to lead England to a massive 227-run victory in the series opener, said.

One up in the four-match series, England are in contention for the only available spot for the inaugural ICC World Test Championship final at the Lord's from June 18-22.

England know that two more wins in their remaining three Tests in India will see them qualify for the WTC final against New Zealand.

Root and Co will take on Kiwis in a two-Test series at home before the coveted five Tests Ashes against Australia series Down Under. They also host India for five Tests starting August.

"With the amount of Test cricket in particular this year, didn't feel like it was the right time, didn't feel like I could throw all my energy into it, which I think it deserves.

"I don't think it would serve English cricket best with what's to come... So, a very difficult decision. Hopefully next year, there's more of an opportunity to potentially be a part of the IPL, or at least be in the auction."

Taking about the second Test, Root said he is well aware of the challenge his team faces despite winning the series opener convincingly.

"It certainly provides a stern challenge but it's not going to be as not as tough as being 1-0 down. We are in a really good position. We played brilliant cricket and will take a lot of confidence forward into this week. But we won't get ahead of ourselves."

"I think we're very understanding of how much hard work, it's going to take to win in these conditions we see that first hand in the last week... So, we know what it's going to require with that challenge... excited."

India skipper Virat Kohli top-scored for India in their second innings of the first Test with a sublime 72-run.

England have their plans in place for Kohli but Root said he is bound to score runs at some point in the series.

"In the first innings of the first Test, Bessy (Dom Bess) produced a brilliant delivery to get rid of him. We have to keep delivering our best balls time and again and try and build pressure on him. We know he is one of the world's best players and desperate to prove a point this week."

Root was really impressed by how his team implemented the game plan in the first Test.

"We managed to get those big first innings runs that we often talk about. I want to be delivering those big performances that will help us win this series and we have the talent to do that," Root said.

England will miss their strike pace bowler Jofra Archer due to an elbow injury, making Ben Stokes' role with the ball more crucial.

"Yeah, he absolutely can. He looks in good shape. We have to be quite smart about him. In the last game he looked a little uncomfortable at times. The more and more he bowls he will look comfortable.

"The more he gets into the series he is going to be asking for the ball and change things and make an impact. It is exciting to think that there is a lot more to come from him still," he said.

England have left out James Anderson despite his heroic effort in the first Test but Root said it gives the 38-year-old veteran pacer an opportunity to come back fresh in the final two Tests in Ahmedabad.

"Everyone's heart was in favour of him being available for this game, but also you look at the bigger picture... We want to give James the best chance to be fit and firing in the last two games.

"And ideally if he is available for two of the last three that's a huge asset for us as a team," the skipper concluded.

With less than a week left for the IPL auction 2021, the franchises have shortlisted a total 292 players who will go under the hammer. Arjun Tendulkar, 21-year-old son of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar, also made it to the shortlisted players in the all-rounders category at a base price of Rs 20 lakh. Arjun made his T20 debut recently in the 2020-21 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He played two matches for Mumbai in the premier domestic T20 tournament and picked up two wickets from two matches, conceding runs at an economy of 9.57.

However, Arjun suffered huge set back ahead of the IPL auction as he was not named in the Mumbai squad for the Vijay Hazare Trophy that begins on February 20.

Earlier, 1,114 players had registered themselves for the for the auction before the franchises trimmed down the list of 292 players, including 164 Indians and 125 foreign players.

A total of 10 players have been selected with the highest base price of Rs 2 crore, which includes veteran off-spinner Harbhajan Singh and middle-order batsman Kedar Jadhav.

India's Test specialist Cheteshwar Pujara has also been chosen for the IPL auction, with his base price of Rs 50 lakh. Pujara's last IPL appearance came way back in 2014 and since then he has been putting his name in the auction list but has failed to attract any interest.

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) go into the IPL auction 2021 with the biggest purse of Rs 53.20 crore, with nine available slots, while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) have the least money in their kitty, with a salary cap of Rs 10.75 crore each.

Amid all the speculation, will the South African stars be allowed to come to India for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League? That is something that the franchises are in talks with the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI). Most sides, especially Delhi Capitals are seeking clarity on the subject from the BCCI as they have South African pacers Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje in their side.

As per reports in the media, the Delhi franchise have officially taken up the matter with the BCCI. The Capitals lose the players for “two games or for two weeks” but the exact duration will depend on the venue and the quarantine requirement for the South African players. Meanwhile, according to the same report, BCCI has assured the Capitals that it will speak with Cricket South Africa (CSA) in this regard.

Both Rabada and Nortje were key members of the side last season as the Capitals made it to the final for the first-time ever. While Rabada picked up 30 wickets from 17 matches, Nortje took 22 wickets in 16 games. The two SA pacers rattled the top-order of the opposition on most occasions last year during the IPL. Rabada ended up with the Purple Cap as the Capitals went onto lose the summit clash against Mumbai Indians.

In all probability, Delhi is going to miss their frontline pacers in the first few games of the season as they will be playing a seven-match series – three ODIs and four T20Is – is scheduled between April 2 and 16, while the IPL is tentatively scheduled to start around that time – April 11. Their absence is bound to hurt the Capitals as they would be eyeing to get their campaign off to a good start.

Other franchises like CSK and RCB could also face similar problems as they have South African stars in their ranks as well.

IPL Auction Setback for franchises – England & New Zealand players doubtful for end of IPL 2021: As reported earlier by InsideSport.co, BCCI has now given written instructions to all franchises that they will have to leave England, New Zealand and South African cricketers for their national duties. South African players will miss first two weeks of IPL owing to series against Pakistan, while England & New Zealand cricketers are likely to miss the business end of IPL 2021 due to 2 match test series starting on 2nd June.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises are now a worried lot. Top foreign cricketers like Kane Williamson (Sunrisers), Ben Stokes (Rajasthan Royals), Jos Butler (RR), Sam Curran (CSK) availability for the last week of IPL 2021 is now questionable. All these names along with many others are expected to leave their IPL franchises mid-way for the sake of national duty.

First it was South African cricketers whose availability is in doubt for the first two weeks of the 14th edition and now it has come to forefront that even England & New Zealand cricketers will be doubtful for the last two weeks of IPL 2021. Reason, New Zealand is scheduled to tour England for two-match test series that starts from 2nd June.

IPL 2021 is likely to conclude in the first week of June and in all likelihood top English and Kiwi cricketers will not be available for the finals and week before that. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) is planning to reach England minimum two weeks in advance for the test series so that they can comply with the local quarantine norms. According to the England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) norms as well, England test hopefuls will also be getting in BIO-BUBBLE before the test series.

It is worth mentioning that a total of 21 England cricketers and 20 New Zealand cricketers will be in the fray at the IPL 2021 Auction, Also 8 England players and 5 New Zealand players have been retained in IPL 2021.

England coach Chris Silverwood on Wednesday admitted that it is "very difficult" to tell players "not to play IPL" even as his team's much-debated rotation policy in Test matches came under scanner after their humbling 317-run defeat against India in the second Test.

The England and Wales Cricket Board had decided that all the multi-format players, especially the likes of Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali will be rotated during the twin tour of Sri Lanka and India.

"It is very difficult to say to the players that no you can't play IPL. You can't say no if you just see the numbers. IPL is a marquee cricket event in T20 world and so it's very difficult," Silverwood said during a media conference where he was cornered on the issue of IPL gaining more precedence over Test matches.

Stokes and Jofra Archer didn't come to Sri Lanka while Buttler and Ali went back home after first and second Test respectively. Now Bairstow and Mark Wood have joined the team while Archer might return home during white ball leg with Buttler re-joining.

When he was specifically asked if playing IPL became a priority as a lot of these players opted out of Big Bash League in Australia but now are skipping Test matches as a part of rotation policy.

"I don't think it's an issue because players are playing fantastic high level of T20 cricket which can only benefit us really. Moving forward it benefits the player. Obviously players make their own minds up about competitions (BBL, CPL, IPL) they go in but we benefit from their playing."

Silverwood, a fast bowler during his playing days accepted that he has made "peace with it".

"I am totally at peace with it. Just to reiterate Test cricket remains the priority at least to me."

While the likes of Stokes, Archer, Chirs Woakes have all been retained by their franchises, the likes of Moeen Ali, Dawid Malan along with 15 others will go under the hammer.

Is he sad that there are talks that players could miss New Zealand Test matches in order to fulfil IPL knock-out commitments?

"One of the things that I feel is it gives opportunity to people. It's exciting for me to see people make debuts, see people do well. As I said, I see the exciting side about it."

So will he pray that Mark Wood or Moeen Ali don't get deals at IPL auctions tomorrow?

"No, I want them to do well, supportive of the decision they make really. If they are picked, it will be brilliant and I can only wish that they do well, get knowledge of conditions and improve as players," he said.

The rotation policy has been criticised especially as people are skipping Test matches for T20s, especially the multi-format men who have fat IPL contracts.

Silverwood blamed it to length of stay in bio-bubble which could de-motivate any player unable to meet their families.

"Length of time during Test series means families can't come to us. So people can get to their families. Playing T20 in India with full strength squad gives us fantastic opportunity for us to learn as group and take away from that," he said keeping World T20 in mind.

Silverwood apologises for the Moeen Ali gaffe:

On Wednesday, it was Silverwood's turn to apologise to Moeen Ali for skipper Joe Root's comments that the player had decided to go home on his own when it was clearly stated that the decision was a collective one by the team management.

"We are sorry. The decision for him to go home was ours. It was with Buttler, Sam, Bairstow and Moeen," Silverwood said.

"It was a unique situation with Moeen (he was in quarantine after returning with COVID-19 positive) as he was in bubble for a long time.

"Having come back to the team in Sri Lanka. We work very closely with our players and try to give them best opportunities. Ultimately we felt it was the right decision for him to go home."

So how did Moeen react?

"He was fine. Me and Joe spoke to him last night and he was fine. He understands that we have got his best interests at heart and we will try to look after him just like we look after all our players."

Auction windfall awaits as Australian brace for IPL impact

As Australia’s leading short-form cricketers await Thursday’s lucrative Indian Premier League auction, their state teams may be watching on with a little less enthusiasm.

While this year’s auction will be a low-key affair (by IPL standards anyway) given teams have retained the bulk of their existing squads, Royal Challengers Bangalore coach Simon Katich believes a multi-million dollar pay-day could still await the right player.

With the Australian domestic season not concluding until April 19, Cricket Australia will not stand in the way of players wanting to leave early, meaning state sides will likely be without some of their best players for the concluding games and finals of the Marsh One-Day Cup and Marsh Sheffield Shield.

Josh Hazlewood, one of the 11 Australians who have been retained by their IPL teams, told The Unplayable Podcast he expects to depart for India in early April ahead of the tournament beginning on April 11.

In addition to those Aussies with existing IPL contracts, the likes of Glenn Maxwell, Steve Smith, Aaron Finch, Jhye Richardson and Jason Behrendorff are expected to be among the sought-after international players available in the auction.

There are 125 overseas players who will go under the hammer, including 35 Australians, but there are only 22 available overseas slots among the eight IPL franchises.

Pat Cummins was the big winner from the last IPL auction in December 2019, fetching a whopping $3.17million (AUD) deal from Kolkata Knight Riders, after an extraordinary bidding war with RCB.

“Certain teams are trying to play the strategy of bringing other teams’ budgets down now. Pat Cummins was a great example last year,” Katich, who was at RCB’s table as they bid up Cummins’ price during that auction, told SEN on Wednesday.

“Not because he’s not worth that money but purely because … as soon as you start bidding on a player and make it known that you’re interested in them, other teams, if they’ve got plenty of money left, can blow you out of the water (by driving up a players’ price).

“I think that’s exactly how things will play out this year for a number of players who are in high demand.”

The IPL overlapping with domestic and even international cricket has long been an issue for England, who could be without the likes of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer for the start of their upcoming home season, but had previously not been a concern for Australia.

While Australian players will not miss international matches because of the IPL, there will be a flow-on effect for domestic sides.

Marnus Labuschagne’s impressive back-end of the BBL|10 season could see him plucked out of Queensland’s ladder-leading Sheffield Shield side, though Katich suggested teams are more likely to spend big on bowlers this year.

The Bulls could lose pacemen Billy Stanlake, Mark Steketee or Brendan Doggett after their strong BBL campaigns, though there is also a fair chance none of their six players up for auction get picked up.

Tasmania and South Australia are in similar positions.

The Tigers have three players with reasonable hopes of being picked up – Matthew Wade, Ben McDermott and Riley Meredith – though none of them are guaranteed buys, and the same could be said for the Redbacks, who will lose Kane Richardson (retained by RCB) and will sweat on whether Alex Carey, Wes Agar or Jake Weatherald attract interest.

WA might only have Josh Philippe, Mitch Marsh, Marcus Stoinis and Andrew Tye available for a few games – and potentially none – when they return from Australia’s New Zealand T20 tour, with all four already holding IPL deals.

That quartet will be in New Zealand until that series finishes on March 7, and may be required to quarantine upon returning home. Losing Jhye Richardson and Behrendorff (both in NZ) as well as other IPL nominees like skipper Shaun Marsh, would be a blow.

Reigning Sheffield Shield champions New South Wales are more accustomed to being without their best players for large chunks of the season – they won last year’s title despite most of their big guns like Smith and Cummins playing only a handful of games and currently sit second this season.

But with Hazlewood, Cummins, David Warner, Adam Zampa and Daniel Sams all certain IPL starters, losing the likes of Smith, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Tanveer Sangha and/or Moises Henriques would test their depth.

Keeping star bowlers Nathan Lyon and Mitchell Starc, neither of whom will play the IPL this season, will help off-set the losses.

Victoria should come out of the auction relatively unscathed, given their only two nominees – Finch and Maxwell – rarely play red-ball cricket for them anyway, and James Pattinson, who helped Mumbai Indians to last year’s title, is not in the mix.

I think somebody was mesmerized with the body blows he got. Or maybe Chennai is going to prepare more than usual spin tracks and Dhoni is looking for atleast 120.

Arjun Tendulkar is a good net bowler and won't get a game. He asked his dad for 20 lakh rupees. His dad instead gave that to Ambani and asked Arjun to earn it through relentless net bowling and quenching the thirst of tired players

It doesn't matter this year because IPL is scheduled to be played in only 6 cities and no team will play in their home city eg., RCB will not play even 1 match at Chinnaswamy.

I haven't seen Arjun bowl or bat but a recently concluded mumbai t20 league I heard that he scored a 30 odd ball 70 and picked a few wickets. Hence I shall reserve my comments on him or his dad until he gets a few opportunities.

You can watch his bowling and batting on youtube. If they aren't playing in Chennai, there's no reason for Pujara to be in Chennai.

I want see him play in a competitive tournament not local leagues before judging him.

CSK seems to have taken Pujara so that he can play the role Badrinath played for them in the initial years of IPL. He will be used as a floater. If CSK lose a couple of quick wickets he will play at around run a ball while the others play freely around me. If they have a good start he not get to bat at all. This was how Badrinath was used. We can debate on how effective this strategy might be but thats how CSK thinks.

Another school of thought is to open with Pujara though it may not be a possibility unless Rituraj, Utappa fail miserably as openers.
 
Had a look at the squads. Once again, Mumbai look the strongest in terms of the first choice XI they can put out and the bench strength. Delhi should run them close but they don't have the knowhow to prevail in tight situations like MI. If DC lose a few matches on the trot, their entire campaign can go to pieces. This never happens with MI.

IPL 2021 Following Kohli's Disagreement; BCCI Do Away With Soft Signal by Umpires on DRS Calls

The Board of Control for Cricket in India has made a big decision regarding the controversial on-field umpires giving soft signals when referring to a decision to the third umpire. The big change comes into consideration after Team India captain Virat Kohli claims it creates confusion.

According to the updated rules, “Soft Signal: Onfield Umpire giving Soft Signal while referring the decision to the 3rd Umpire will not be applicable.”

It is going to give full authority to the third-umpire to take the call with the technological advancements sans keeping in mind the umpire’s call.

“There have been cases wherein the soft signal has kind of created confusion rather than giving clarity to the third umpire and that is why it was felt that going back to the old method of referring decisions to the third umpire if the on-field umpires are not sure should be followed,” a source told ANI.

In the fourth T20I, Team India suffered at a couple of decisions due to the soft-signals from the third umpire. After the game skipper Kohli expressed his displeasure over the controversial calls.

“If it hits the stumps or missing the stumps, it should not matter how much the ball is clipping because it is creating a lot of confusion. One more factor that needs to be considered is how the fielding team responds to a dismissal that is claimed,” Kohli said.

“This is somewhere defining the soft signals as well. You have to question what the spirit of the game is and what those guidelines are because if things like that happen with the Indian cricket team overseas then you are talking about the completely different conversation about the spirit of the game.”
