Shabbir has great stats and has performed quite well. Brilliant fielder too, Riad has been in exceptional form.

Their base price must be very low. Around 30 lakh. They are just picked to fill the squad just in case if the main players get injured. Shamsi is playing because Starc, Badree were injured and so is Handscomb as 3 main players of Pune team were out. Riad? I have seen him bat. Pretty average player. I agree with Shabbir though. He is a great talent. He might be picked by a franchise next year if he keeps playing well.

The players in demand in IPL are always all rounders even if they aren't necessarily first teamers. That is why players like Henriques, Stoinis, Watson, Perrera are in high demand in the IPL. As far as pure batsmen are concerned, those with huge big hitting reputation in T20s like Gayle, AB, Buttler are always preferred over classical batsmen unless they are of the calibre of Smith and Williamson. Players like Handscomb are playing because 2 players in KP and Faf have been injured. Otherwise he won't get a game.
