India's descent into political and religious extremism is highlighted by the attempt to silence journalists like Rana Ayyub and an increase in censorship of media allegedly broadcasting 'fake news.'

Indians are restricted to State-controlled narratives which promote State-mandated agendas and are, therefore, at risk of becoming tools of the State, fuelling divide and conquer machinations that perpetuate power structures of ruling classes and keep working, middle classes enslaved to them.

India's government has said that it has banned 22 YouTube channels, including four of Pakistani origin, for disinformation on subjects concerning national security and public order, the latest such federal crackdown in the country.

The country's Ministry of Information & Broadcasting said on Tuesday that the blocked YouTube channels had a combined total of 2.6 billion viewers.

The government, which invoked "emergency powers" under India's IT laws, said it had for the first time blocked 18 Indian YouTube channels, with previous actions focusing on accounts it said operated from neighbouring Pakistan.

"Multiple YouTube channels were used to post fake news on various subjects such as the Indian Armed Forces," the Indian government said in a statement.

This is nothing new. I posted a thread about BJP burning previous historical records shortly after Modi came to power. They not only want to silence critics, they want to wipe out history as recorded down the centuries which is a far bigger crime.

Unfortunately it isn't only India that is banning and censoring news media, journalists and others the government regards as a threat to its narratives and agendas - the West is descending into fascism too by censoring all Russian news media, any journalists associated with them and deplatforming anyone who even so much as questions the dominant anti-Russia narrative in Western corporate media. Iranian news channels have also been censored - such as Press TV. It seems the West is attempting to control the narrative of virtually all of its domestic, foreign policies and will not tolerate any dissent, opposition or challenge to its hegemony.

Accessing the truth has become all the more challenging, but it is out there and some really brave academics, former US military operatives and diplomats, as well as journalists, are working tirelessly to expose the lies and deceit of the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Pakistan used to ban youtube as a whole so.....

But whats thenpoint of posting this here. Many pakistani overseas posters want media to be controlled by the govtm

There are posters who dont like dawn for the truth they tell and always go on about how they should be banned or controlled....

But i understand, pakistanis like conservative laws in pakistan and liberal laws in india

Press freedom is an issue even in US. Freedom index has US ranked in 40s. It should have been higher, but I can see why it's ranked lower. Far left and far right have taken over the press and there is no objectivity.

India and Pakistan are both doing poorly and raked in 140s. Plenty of room to improve.
