They used to make fun of how much players get paid in PSL but at least they are still playing unlike in Indian Postpone League.

IPL will also happen but just postponed for few days until the logistics are sorted. The entire Indian machinery is now focus on war.

They are talking about canceling BD tour and Asia cup to play IPL then. I don't know if the foreign players have other commitments in that window.

I was surprised to hear they almost tried forcing the game last evening.

On a lighter note, imagine being a foreign player sitting in your hotel room and turning on the TV to see Arnab talking about what's happening. Poor guys must have been panicking.

Nobody is missing anything fully! The ones missing it are the corporates who will lose a heck lot of money if the show don't go on... This was supposed to be (Indian Summer) rest period for players (still I know we would have seen some insignificant Ind vs Sri, Ind vs WI or Ind vs Ban series going on if IPL was not there, such money minded now are the cricket boards! So we felt that IPL is a better entertainment & intense cricket compared to those games!)

Anyhow people in India have enough to entertain themselves (social media especially has overtaken cricket, movies...) I don't think people will miss IPL badly! Maybe RCB fans will feel bit sad because there was momentum for them to win the cup this time...

You need to worry more about chances of India vs Pakistan clashes in future (more than IPL)... At least they were meeting in ICC tournaments. Now even that might be stopped! Pakistan could get isolated altogether in cricket, BCCI has powers... War cannot happen always, but the wound can stay for longer... Indians won't bother not playing with Pakistan because there is zero intensity in those games these days anyways...

I'm not sure how the IPL can be "suspended". It requires a big down of the cricketing calendar so it won't be easy to be rescheduled as players won't be available. The only options were UAE which is booked now by PSL or cancel. Suspended seems like a gentle way of doing it's done for the year.

Why not both?

Will be the craziest thing ever if PSL and IPL are both in UAE at same time. PSL in Dubai, IPL in Sharjah and Abu Dhabi. The tension will be insane as the UAE tries to make both schedules work.

The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) informed the BCCI that Dubai was unavailable, leaving IPL’s fate uncertain. As a result, the UAE has indefinitely postponed its decision to accommodate IPL matches.

Meanwhile, the PCB confirmed that PSL 10's remaining matches, including playoffs and the final, will be relocated to the UAE, with further details on venues and dates to be announced soon.

This is pretty funny if true. PCB, to their credit, moved fast on this and finalized UAE as the venue for the remaining matches, while IPL organizers were too busy duping the fans by doing fake floodlight failures. Now its very likely that they will have to wait till the PSL finishes to restart the IPL.
 
The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) on Friday received a threat email claiming to blast the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi in retaliation for the ongoing Operation Sindoor carried out by the Indian armed forces against Pakistan.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium received a bomb threat via email on Friday morning, and a police complaint has been registered, a top DDCA official told IANS. “There will be a bomb blast in your stadium. We have a committed Pakistan sleeper cell active in India. The blast will be our revenge of Operation Sindoor," reads the mail.

The venue played host to Delhi Capitals' home matches in the IPL 2025 before it was suspended for one week by the BCCI on Friday. Arun Jaitley Stadium was scheduled to host its last match of the season against Gujarat Titans on May 11 but it has now been suspended following the BCCI's decision.

The decision to postpone has been taken pursuant to advice received from the Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif who has kept in view the reckless aggression from India that has escalated to a point where national attention and sentiments are rightly focused on the courageous efforts of the Armed Forces of Pakistan who are vociferously upholding the sovereignty of our beloved Pakistan.

The PCB and its players stand resolutely in solidarity with the families of the martyrs and our security personnel defending the nation.

Won't be surprised if the Indian government and BCCI used their influence behind the scenes to pressurize the UAE to not accommodate the PCB and PSL. Don't forget Jay Shah is the ICC Chairman.

IPL 2025: Overseas players leaving India on next available flights

All ten IPL franchises have started to disband their squads, with a focus on overseas players and support staff after the 18th season was suspended due to tension between India and Pakistan. The BCCI has postponed the games for one week. Following a directive from the Indian government authorities, the cash-rich league was stopped midway.

The safety of players, officials, and support staff is the foremost priority. Both Indian and overseas players have already started heading home. Teams have been disbanded, and the players and support staff are taking the next available flights.

The tension has caused significant unease among the foreign players. A total of 62 overseas players were drafted into the 10 franchises during the mega-auction held last year.

“The players are doing well but of course, there is concern among them,” an IPL team official told PTI.

IPL not likely to finish season ‘in the near future’​


Raunak Kapoor, an Indian cricket broadcaster, says that while the Indian Premier League has been suspended for a week due to the tensions with Pakistan, it will likely be delayed for much longer.

“I don’t see them finishing [the season] in the near future,” he told Al Jazeera from Mumbai.

“We are probably looking at a time after the Indian monsoon [to complete the season], in September or October,” he added.

Kapoor said he believes the authorities will act much like they did during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the IPL was suspended around April and resumed in the UAE around September.

“They will certainly finish the league, whether they can manage it at home or not,” he said.

New Zealand cricket players in India and Pakistan are leaving amid rising tensions between the two nations following artillery exchanges in Kashmir. NZ Cricket confirmed that all Kiwi players, coaches, and staff involved in PSL have relocated to Dubai, while those in IPL are either departing or awaiting available flights. Meanwhile, the New Zealand A team in Bangladesh will continue its schedule as planned, with security assessments ongoing.

IPL Chairman Breaks Silence On Evacuation During IPL 2025 Clash In Dharmasala: "Stampede..."

It was during the first strategic timeout when IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal realised that the clash between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala could not have continued. The air raid sirens had gone off in two neighbouring cities, one of them less than 100km away, and 25,000 people were in the stands unaware of the security concerns. On one of his "most challenging days" as a cricket administrator, Dhumal had to oversee the orderly evacuation of these 25,000 people and ensure that the players were not affected by the change of circumstances. Floodlights were dimmed and eventually turned off and a blackout protocol came into operation after Pathankot (85km from Dharamsala) and Jammu (a little over 197km away) came under a drone attack from Pakistan.

Announcements were duly made to inform the sizeable crowd of floodlights being switched off. It was blamed on a technical snag at first, a ploy to ensure that the assembled fans did not panic.

"...when the announcement was made on the public address system about floodlights going off, people didn't want to leave," Dhumal recalled in an interview to PTI.

"We had to ensure that the evacuation of spectators happened without pressing the panic button. We couldn't have allowed a stampede," he added.

ll available evidence suggests that Dhumal, the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association officials and the local police pulled off the task with elan as people dispersed in less than half an hour's time.

"...you need to understand that the match was very exciting in the manner Punjab was batting...The entire operation wouldn't have been possible without the help of the local police and district administration. They did a splendid job," Dhumal, who hails from the state, said.

He was seen requesting people to leave the stadium, standing next to Punjab Kings co-owner Preity Zinta in one of the galleries. Dharamsala is the second home base of the Punjab franchise.

The IPL was suspended for a week on Friday amid the mounting conflict between India and Pakistan in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22.

Was it the most challenging night of his tenure as IPL chairman? Not so really, said Dhumal.

"...we had big challenge during COVID-19 when tournament was stopped midway. But yesterday's challenge was different as we had to stop a live game due to security protocol.

"Ensuring that everything happened smoothly in quickest possible time was a challenge. But we had an abiding crowd that also responded to our call," Dhumal said sharing the credit with a very compliant gathering that followed instructions.

The IPL Chairman then gave a peek into how the match's suspension was coordinated by the IPL operations team under him and the local district administration within a 10-minute window.

"It was during the first strategic timeout that I was intimated about the blackout protocol. We had little time but I quickly informed the top officials of both DC and Punjab management that lights will go off in some time and how we are planning to do it.

"I spoke to them and told them to ensure that players don't get scared or panicky," Dhumal revealed.

"I had to also ensure that the crew and others working on the game also safely leave the stadium. It was my duty." The local police did its bit to eliminate panic by removing barricades outside the ground which made the evacuation swift and smooth.

Dhumal is relieved that both Punjab and Delhi teams have safely reached the national capital after a time-consuming journey that involved criss-crossing Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar.

"Yes there are logistical issues. Not just players, so many people are involved in the smooth conduct of a match. So, we had to make travel arrangements and also ensure that there was foolproof security during movement from Dharamsala to Delhi." The teams were escorted by a Himachal Pradesh Police convoy from Dharamsala to Hoshirapur. From Hoshiarpur, Punjab Police took charge of their security, accompanying them to Jalandhar Railway Station from where they boarded the train to Delhi.

Asked about the chances of IPL's remaining 16 games happening in September by scrapping the Asia Cup, Dhumal said that this is perhaps not the time to figure these options.

"Right now, like everyone else in the country, we stand in solidarity with our armed forces in the country. We will take a call on the remainder of the tournament at an appropriate time," he said.

Indian Premier League: England would consider hosting IPL matches after season suspension

England would consider hosting Indian Premier League (IPL) matches if the England and Wales Cricket Board receives a request to help complete the tournament from the Indian and international cricket authorities, Sky Sports News understands.

The IPL has been suspended for a week in the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

Moving matches to venues in England would be difficult due to the busy schedule of the domestic and international seasons.

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) also confirmed it was suspending games indefinitely, abandoning a plan to complete fixtures in the UAE.

After the IPL suspension, the BCCI, which governs cricket in India, plans to discuss the situation with the government, teams and broadcasters and hopes to announce a new schedule.

The IPL still has 12 games to be played in the group stage before a knockout stage featuring four play-off matches.

An IPL statement read: "The remainder of ongoing IPL 2025 suspended with immediate effect for one week.

"The decision was taken by the IPL Governing Council after due consultation with all key stakeholders following the representations from most of the franchisees, who conveyed the concern and sentiments of their players, and also the views of the broadcaster, sponsors and fans.

"While the BCCI reposes full faith in the strength and preparedness of our armed forces, the board considered it prudent to act in the collective interest of all stakeholders."

ECB in regular contact with English IPL players

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Friday there has been regular dialogue with the 10 English players involved in the competition.

That has been through a combination of the ECB, their security advisers, and the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA).

Jos Buttler, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Liam Livingstone, Phil Salt, Jacob Bethell, Will Jacks, Reece Topley, Sam Curran, and Jamie Overton have all featured this year.

Australian cricket stars narrowly escape missile strike in Pakistan as IPL and PSL suspended

Australian and international cricketers have narrowly avoided a missile strike in Pakistan, fleeing on a charter flight to Dubai just hours before Indian forces targeted the same military base.

The majority of Australia’s cricketers involved in the Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League will arrive back on home soil on Sunday after the postponement of both tournaments due to the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan.

The conflict between Pakistan and India has led to the postponement of the IPL.

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Travis Head, all signed to play in the IPL, have been able to organise flights back to Australia after air-raid warnings near Dharamshala in the country’s north prompted the postponement of the world’s richest T20 tournament.

Australian players taking part in the PSL also safely made it out of Pakistan on Friday evening (local time) after the tournament was officially postponed.

The Pakistan Cricket Board arranged a charter flight for Australian and international players that departed Islamabad on Friday night bound for Dubai. Connecting flights from Dubai to players’ home countries were being organised on Saturday.

However, this masthead can reveal that Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Ashton Turner and Mitch Owen were almost caught up in a potentially devastating incident.

On Saturday morning local time, just hours after the overseas players left on their charter flight, India launched missile strikes targeting three Pakistani airbases, including the facility at Nur Khan – the airbase from which players, officials and broadcasters had flown out for the UAE around three hours earlier.

The strike on Nur Khan, located near Pakistan’s military headquarters and about 10 kilometres from Islamabad, caused multiple explosions and fires, according to local media reports. Witnesses described smoke and flames, with panic spreading in surrounding areas.

“India, with its naked aggression, has attacked with missiles. Nur Khan base, Murid base and Shorkot base have been targeted,” Pakistan military spokesperson Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry said in a live broadcast aired by state television early on Saturday.

Pakistan has since confirmed it launched counterattacks on Indian military targets, in a dramatic escalation of hostilities. The country’s airspace has been closed to all civilian and commercial aircraft.

While David Warner had already returned to Australia and was not on the flight, several Australian players were left shaken by the close call.

“Sean and Ben are relieved to be in Dubai now,” Peter Lovitt, who manages Abbott and Dwarshuis, told this masthead. “They are resting at a hotel as they prepare to fly back to Sydney.

“It has obviously been a challenging last 24 hours or so for all the players both physically and mentally. The next steps are to get them home safely as soon as possible. The organisers of the PSL have done their best to get the players out of Pakistan quickly in trying circumstances in a situation that is much bigger than the game of cricket itself.”

While it is unclear which England players were on board, James Vince, Tom Curran, Sam Billings and Chris Jordan were all involved in the PSL.

Adding to the disruption, players’ luggage remains in Pakistan, with efforts under way to have it returned.

No timeline has been confirmed for the resumption of either tournament. The England and Wales Cricket Board is reportedly exploring the possibility of hosting the remainder of the IPL in the UK.
