Following India's recent missile strikes on Pakistani territory, the future of the PSL and IPL hangs in uncertainty. With diplomatic relations strained and security concerns mounting, questions arise about player participation, venue changes, and the overall stability of these premier cricket leagues. Will the conflict force disruptions that reshape the tournaments?

NZ Cricket 'monitoring' situation in India and Pakistan

New Zealand Cricket is monitoring the escalating political situation in India and Pakistan, where more than a dozen Kiwi internationals are playing their trade as professional players, including former skipper Kane Williamson.

When contacted by 1News today, NZ Cricket said it was aware of reports that India had fired missiles at what the nation's representatives described as non-military “terrorist” targets in Pakistan, resulting in several deaths.

Pakistan has promised to retaliate.

The development marks an escalation in the long-simmering conflict between the neighbouring nuclear powers.

In a statement, NZ Cricket said: “NZ Cricket is aware of the relevant reports. We continue to assess the security environment for our players and coaching staff in all overseas environments to ensure they're in receipt of the most updated advice.

“This includes our national men's A team in Bangladesh, and New Zealanders involved in both the IPL and the PSL. These security assessments are current and ongoing.”

The two professional cricket leagues in India and Pakistan are lucrative sidelines for international players.

IPL: (India) Devon Conway, Rachin Ravindra, Trent Boult, Bevon Jacobs, Mitchell Santner.

PSL: (Pakistan) Kyle Jamieson, Michael Bracewell, Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, Tim Seifert, Kane Williamson, Colin Munro.

Both leagues might have a problem if flights are disrupted.

Tonight's match sees the return of HBL PSL to Rawalpindi for four matches on 7, 8, 9 and 10 May. Thereafter the final group stage match is scheduled in Multan on 11 May.

The Eliminator is set to take place in Rawalpindi on 13 May, while the playoffs and final of the marquee event are to take place on 14, 16 and 18 May, respectively at the Gaddafi Stadium.

🇮🇳🇵🇰 India-Pakistan Military Clash: Could It Impact the IPL and PSL?

Last night's sudden military confrontation between India and Pakistan has raised fresh concerns—not just politically, but in the world of cricket. With regional tensions flaring, both the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and Indian Premier League (IPL) could face unexpected consequences.

🔐 Player Security Now in Question

Foreign and local players are now facing serious concerns regarding safety. For those already in the region or planning to travel, the current security situation has cast a shadow over their participation. PSL teams in particular, which host matches across various Pakistani cities, may face withdrawals or heightened security demands.

✈️ Flight Suspensions Causing Travel Chaos

Commercial flights between key cities have reportedly been suspended, making it difficult for players, support staff, and international broadcasters to travel. These logistical issues could lead to scheduling delays, reduced attendance, or even match cancellations if the situation escalates.

😟 Psychological Pressure on Athletes

Even for players not directly impacted by travel bans, the mental toll is undeniable. Fear, uncertainty, and constant media coverage of military events create a stressful environment—especially for younger and foreign players. This tension may affect on-field performance and dressing room morale.

💼 Sponsorships and Media Deals at Risk

Brands don’t like instability. If tensions continue, sponsors may back out from current or upcoming seasons, especially those operating in both India and Pakistan. Broadcasting companies may also rethink their marketing strategies, which could shrink the leagues' commercial reach.

⚠️ Long-Term Cricketing Consequences

This incident will likely widen the diplomatic gap between Indian and Pakistani cricket boards. With bilateral series already frozen, joint appearances in international tournaments may also become controversial. The IPL has historically excluded Pakistani players—this incident will only reinforce that policy. Likewise, PSL may hesitate to engage with Indian talent or media entities.

🧭 Conclusion: A New Test for South Asian Cricket

The India-Pakistan military clash has created a tense environment that extends far beyond politics. As things stand, both PSL and IPL organizers must now make tough decisions regarding safety, logistics, and player welfare. Cricket, often seen as a unifier in South Asia, now finds itself at the crossroads of conflict and diplomacy once again.

Regarding English players at the IPL and PSL, ECB will follow Foreign Office guidance and speak to their security teams. The upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Mumbai Indians (MI), originally scheduled to be held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala, has been shifted to Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. According to BCCI sources, the change was made due to the closure of the Dharamshala airport, affecting travel logistics. The match is scheduled for May 11.

There is also a possibility that Punjab Kings’ next fixture against Delhi Capitals (DC), also set to be held in Dharamshala, could be reworked. Airlines have suspended flight operations in 11 cities across northern and central India until May 10, including Dharamshala, Srinagar, Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Chandigarh, Bikaner, Jodhpur, Gwalior, Kishangarh, and Rajkot.

The BCCI is monitoring the situation and is in communication with relevant authorities regarding the feasibility of hosting further matches at the Dharamshala venue. Given the current circumstances, the Punjab-based franchise may have to consider alternate venues for their remaining home matches.

Darr ka Mahaul hai…

Pakistan hasn’t even started it’s aggressive response yet :ROFLMAO:

It's called being a responsible organiser.

Y'all want to play the PSL in any and all venues in this environment, thats on you.

While the Indian Premier League (IPL) scrambles to rearrange venues due to logistical and situational constraints, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) rolls on undeterred. Today’s match at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium will proceed as scheduled, even as Islamabad, just a few kilometres away and the heart of the country, was placed on high alert, with footage of tightened security zones doing the rounds on social media. Still, the show goes on.

Meanwhile, across the border, IPL 2025 has already begun shifting its matches. The high-voltage PBKS vs MI clash, originally set for Dharamshala, has now been moved to Mumbai. Even the next PBKS fixture against Delhi Capitals might be relocated, with multiple northern Indian cities seeing suspended flight operations. It seems that while PSL continues under pressure, IPL is opting for safer grounds, quite literally. 😄

At the end of the day, cricket always finds a way, but it's always fun to see how different leagues handle the heat, both on and off the pitch.

Islamabad United Squad Availability

Islamabad United is pleased to confirm that all players, both local and foreign, are available for selection for the upcoming match, with the exception of those currently sidelined due to injury or illness.

The team remains in high spirits and fully focused as we approach the business end of the tournament.

Keen to see Shadab and Azam Khan, two of my most favourite players

English cricket stars are 'split' over staying in Pakistan amid country's conflict with India - with players 'exploring potential routes home'
There are currently seven English stars who play in the Pakistan Super League

England cricket stars are split on whether to remain in Pakistan amid the nation's ongoing conflict with India, according to reports.

Airlines have cancelled or rerouted a number of flights in the wake of India firing missiles across the border into Pakistani-controlled territory in at least six locations.

The strikes, which India claimed were targeting infrastructure used by militants, have reportedly killed eight people and injured 35 others, according to Pakistani security officials.

Currently, there are seven English players who are currently playing in the PSL (Pakistan Super League) - which is due to finish on May 18th.

The Telegraph claim that several of those are exploring their current options and potential routes home, if needed - with fears that the conflict could escalate to war.

The seven English players include James Vince, Tom Curran, Sam Billings, Chris Jordan, David Willey, Luke Wood and Tom Kohler-Cadmore. There are also a number of English coaches - such as Alexandra Hartley.

Reports claim several stars are exploring their current options and potential routes home (Pictured: English batsman James Vince)

The outlet continue by claiming, however, that a number of those stars are 'satisfied' with the security arrangements and don't feel a need to leave the competition.

One source told the outlet that there are 'mixed thoughts and feelings across the group' - with the PCA 'working with players' to discuss their situations.

Meanwhile, the PSL's official advice to players claims that it is still safe to continue playing in the country.

However, one agent revealed to the outlet that some of the English stars were left 'twitchy' over the situation.

'It's business as usual but obviously if anything else happens in the next 24 hours you'd imagine people will just want to leave. I don't see – at this moment in time – a huge exodus.'

There are also 10 English players, including Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell and Jos Buttler, playing in the Indian Premier League, which runs until May 25.

The update comes amid soaring tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbors over last month's militant attack on tourists in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir.

The missiles struck locations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and in the country's eastern Punjab province early Wednesday, according to three Pakistani security officials.

Business as usual so far with some match venues being shifted.

The ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) 10 matches are at risk of being postponed due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, with concerns surrounding India’s aggressive actions and infiltration.

A crucial meeting is scheduled between the Ministry of Interior and officials from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to assess the situation and its potential impact on the tournament.

The meeting will determine whether the PSL matches will continue as planned or be suspended, according to sources close to the matter.

The security situation, including the closure of airspace, is expected to complicate the logistics of hosting the matches. Sources indicate that these developments could lead to further delays or cancellations.

As the situation evolves, there is an increasing possibility that the PSL matches may be postponed, depending on the outcomes of the meeting and any additional developments in the region.

The ongoing tenth edition of the PSL (PSL 10) is nearing its final stage, with just four knockout matches and four playoff matches remaining.

The 27th match of the tournament, scheduled to take place between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, is most likely to be called off due to unwanted circumstances.

It is pertinent to mention that Quetta Gladiators became the first team to qualify for the playoff round of the tournament and currently lead the points table with six wins, two defeats, and one washout due to rain, in nine games.

Karachi Kings sit second with five wins and three defeats in eight games, having earned 10 points, while defending champions Islamabad United are third, with five wins and four defeats from nine games, also with 10 points.

Lahore Qalandars are in fourth place with four wins and four defeats, totaling nine points, while Peshawar Zalmi sit fifth with eight points, having won four matches.

Multan Sultans are already out of playoff contention with one win and eight defeats in nine games.

This is the correct decision. Overseas players don't have any skin in this game. India is attacking civilian areas, in the current climate it's best to postpone the league.

I think they need to do some things,

1. Scrap the inconsequential game between Quetta and Multan

2. Do double headers. Get 2 fixtures in per day and get this done quickly

3. Finals day should be 2 matches too. Qualifier and final

PSL SHIFTED TO KARACHI ANYBODY KNOW WHEN THEY ANNOUNCES THE DATE OF THESE MATCHES

One team play two maches on final day ?

It happens in England on finals day. It’s no big deal. Players are conditioned to spend 50-100 overs in the field

2 matches is 80 overs. Nothing big for professional players

The IPL match between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians on May 11 has been moved to Ahmedabad due to the closure of Dharamsala airport following India's military action in Pakistan.

Punjab Kings will play Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala on May 9, but travel logistics remain uncertain with flights suspended. With Chandigarh airport also closed, teams must find alternative routes to Delhi. Delhi Capitals are set to play Gujarat Titans at home on May 11. Punjab Kings, on track for their first playoff appearance since 2014, await official confirmation from the BCCI regarding venue changes.

Finals day is a big event in English cricket. It's a good idea for PSL not just because of the current situation but going forward too.

Update on Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings fixture

Rawalpindi, 8 May 2025:

The Pakistan Cricket Board, in consultation with all the stakeholders, has decided to reschedule tonight’s HBL PSL X match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings.

The PCB will announce the revised date in due course.

Moreover, VIP Gallery and enclosures ticket holders can obtain refunds from TCS Express Centers for tonight’s match, while tickets bought online for tonight’s encounter will be automatically reimbursed in the accounts used at the time of booking.

Smal correction - india attacked terrorist training and facilitation camps.

No one in their right mind will believe india is attacking some random civilian areas. Even the smallest country today has means to attack specific targets and avoid civilians.

Even if that's the propaganda their army is feeding them, they have to be really dumb or intentionally deceiving themselves to believe india is attacking random civilian areas.

There is nothing to gain by attacking civilians unlike the terrorists in Kashmir.

PSL considering postponing rest of season

The Pakistan Super League is considering postponing the remainder of its season amid the ongoing tensions between Pakistan and India.

BBC Sport understands the PSL is looking at all options, including halting the tournament for a number of weeks, moving it to a single city or outside the country.

Pakistan says 31 people have been killed and 57 injured by air strikes in the country and Pakistan-administered Kashmir since Wednesday morning as India responds to a deadly militant attack on Indian tourists in Kashmir last month.

Players at the PSL, including those from England, took part in an emergency meeting held by tournament organisers on Thursday.

James Vince, Chris Jordan, Tom Curran, David Willey, Sam Billings, Luke Wood and Tom Kohler-Cadmore are the English players involved in the PSL, while there are also English coaches at various franchises.

Thursday's match between Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi Kings, due to be held in Rawalpindi, was postponed after Pakistan's military said Indian drones were destroyed in various Pakistan cities.

A Pakistan Cricket Board official told BBC Sport one drone misfired and led to an explosion in the street behind the stadium in Rawalpindi. The BBC has been unable to verify these claims.

PSL organisers remain keen for the tournament, which has eight fixtures outstanding, to be completed, but the safety of players remains their priority.

A senior Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official told BBC Sport: "If Rawalpindi is not safe, Lahore and Karachi are not safe because drones also attacked there. Any city of Pakistan is not safe because the drones have targeted smaller cities of Pakistan."

The seven English players have held separate discussions over whether to return to the UK, with a split in opinion over whether to remain.

They held talks with the Professional Cricketers' Association (PCA) on Wednesday to discuss the situation. It is understood feelings among those in Pakistan were mixed.

Other leading overseas names in the PSL include Australian David Warner (Karachi Kings) and former West Indies captain Jason Holder (Islamabad United).

The UK foreign office currently advises against all but essential travel within five miles of the international border between Pakistan and India.

The Indian Premier League match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals began as planned in Dharamsala on Thursday, but was called off after 10.1 overs after the floodlights went out.

Sunday's match between the Kings and Mumbai Indians has been moved from Dharamsala to Ahmedabad.

Dharamsala is in the state of Himachal Pradesh, which borders Kashmir, and flights were cancelled to its airport on Wednesday, making it difficult for Mumbai Indians to travel.

"The venue change has been necessitated due to logistical challenges," India's cricket board (BCCI) said in a statement.

Twenty-six civilians were killed in Indian-administered Kashmir last month and India has accused Pakistan of supporting militants behind the attack - an allegation the neighbouring country has rejected.

The situation escalated on Tuesday evening when India launched a series of strikes in a move named "Operation Sindoor".

Tournament should be postponed things settle down. No game is worth the lives of the players and people.

IPL 2025: BCCI to arrange special train to evacuate PBKS, DC players from Dharamsala

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is taking active measures to ensure the security of the players, support staff, and broadcast crew who were involved in the abandoned IPL 2025 clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) on Thursday, May 08.

Reportedly, the high-voltage encounter was abandoned mid-way into the first innings owing to the cross-border tensions. The spectators were advised to exit the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala as soon as possible. Now, the Indian cricket board is planning to have a special train to get the players, support staff, and broadcast crew out of Dharamshala.

"We are organising a special train from close to Dharamshala to bring everybody home safely. As of now, the match has been called off and the stadium has been evacuated. We will take a call on the tournament's future depending on the situation tomorrow. As of now, players' safety is utmost important. The match couldn't have continued tonight because of the situation. It wasn't safe," BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla was quoted as saying by Times of India.

According to reports, the players of both sides have made it back to their hotels. They will now be waiting for further orders from the BCCI. It is important to note that the airport in Dharamshala is closed and there is still no clarity regarding when the players will be returning from the hills.

Overseas players should be sent home from the PSL in the current climate. It's not fair on them and not good for their mental health
From my understanding, airline restrictions also. Meaning some players are stuck? Correct me if am wrong - am repeating what I heard on the media.

Good idea, try to finish it all off within a week or so per original remaining days so impact on intl players leaving.. but I think they can just cancel Mullan game and give both 1 point as it's totally inconsequential and will help save them cost on travel, hotel, one more stadium rental fee, and buy them an extra scheduling day also.

Also good to lock in UAE stadiums before ipl goes for it.

Statement from Chairman PCB on HBL PSL X Matches Rescheduling

The PCB today confirms that the remaining fixtures of the HBL PSL X have been shifted to the UAE. As such, the last eight fixtures, which were previously scheduled in Rawalpindi, Multan and Lahore will now be staged at the UAE.

Schedule of matches, outlining the dates and venues, will be shared in due course.

PCB Chair Mohsin Naqvi:

“The PCB has always stood by the position that politics and sports need to be kept apart. However, in view of the extremely irresponsible and dangerous Indian act of targeting the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which was manifestly done to disrupt the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League X, the PCB has decided to shift the remaining matches to UAE so that the domestic as well as foreign cricketers, who are our precious guests, can be saved from the possible reckless targeting by India.

“As a responsible organisation that has overcome adversities repeatedly and ensured that the game of cricket flourishes, it was important for us to ensure the mental well-being of all players participating in the HBL PSL.

“Like in the past, we hope that our stakeholders will rally with us to further the best interests of the tournament, our players and the fans. We are committed to ensuring that the league continues to thrive!”

Perfect.

Once again, India with more to lose now.

Play the remaining IPL in India at your own risk. They clearly bricked it midway today
Maybe they should play IPL in New York 🤣🤣

IPL Chairman Breaks Silence On Possibility Of T20 Tournament Being Called Off: "Situation Right Now..."

The IPL jamboree was brought to a screeching halt in Dharamsala on Thursday by air raid alerts in neighbouring cities, forcing the league's administrators to pause and review the "evolving" and escalating military confrontation between India and Pakistan that threatens to derail the current season. The match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals was cancelled midway following air raid alerts in Jammu and Pathankot, putting the entire league at risk of being called off.

"We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven't received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind," IPL chairman Arun Dhumal told PTI when asked whether the league will continue amid the conflict that started with a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.

The Punjab side was 122 for 1 in 10.1 overs when lights went out in the quaint hill town, attributed to floodlight failure at first. The game had started later than scheduled due to rain before the city went dark for some time.

The teams and the assembled fans were eventually evacuated from the stadium for their security. The picturesque ground can accommodate approximately 23,000 spectators and it was packed to about 80 per cent of its capacity at the time of evacuation.

"Players of both the teams are safely back in the hotel from the stadium. There is no blackout here at the moment. Hotel is under heavy security and we are waiting for BCCI's decision," a Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association source told PTI.

Several people raised anti-Pakistan slogans while on their way out of the stadium. Prabhsimran Singh was batting at 50 off 28 balls while his opening partner Priyansh Arya made 70 off 34 balls before getting dismissed when proceedings came to a halt.

The players and support staff of both the teams will now be brought to Delhi aboard a special train from Pathankot, which is about 85km from Dharamsala. The teams will reach Pathankot by road.

Dharamsala's lone airport and the ones in neighbouring Kangra and Chandigarh are closed for operation right now as part of precautionary measures to thwart Pakistani attacks.

With the cancellation of tonight's match, it is not clear whether the league will proceed any further and Dhumal evaded any clear response. But he did confirm that Friday's match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Lucknow is not threatened as of now.

"Yes it is on as of now but obviously it is an evolving situation and any decision will be taken keeping the best interest of all stakeholders in mind," he said.

However, reliable IPL sources have revealed that foreign recruits want to head home at the earliest.

IPL's schedule has already been affected by the developments as the May 11 game between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings in Dharamsala has been moved to Ahmedabad.

Pakistan T20 league moved as Aussies await IPL call

India-Pakistan tensions escalate, leaving Australians involved in T20 leagues facing uncertainty

Australian players and coaches featuring in India and Pakistan's T20 leagues have been plunged into uncertainty amid escalating military tensions between the neighbouring countries.

Cricket Australia was closely observing the tense situation on Friday with more than two dozen players and coaches involved in ongoing T20 tournaments, the Indian Premier League and the Pakistan Super League.

"We continue to closely monitor the situation in Pakistan and India, including obtaining regular advice and updates from the Australian Government, the PCB, BCCI and local government authorities, and maintaining communication with our players and support staff currently in the region," CA said in a statement on Friday morning.

Indian officials on Friday were considering next steps for the IPL, while the remaining eight Pakistan Super League matches (including finals) have been shifted to the United Arab Emirates.

That came as Pakistan Cricket Board chair, Mohsin Naqvi, also the country's interior minister, claimed India’s military had targeted cricketers in a drone strike.

Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Thursday that the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium had been struck by an Indian drone. Former Australia star, David Warner, was scheduled to play there that evening against the Peshawar Zalmi, but the match was cancelled.

Fast bowler Ben Dwarshuis played at Rawalpindi for Islamabad United on Wednesday in a game against Quetta Gladiators. Riley Meredith, Sean Abbott and Max Bryant are the other Australian players involved in the PSL.

"The PCB has always stood by the position that politics and sports need to be kept apart," Naqvi said in a statement on Friday.

"However, in view of the extremely irresponsible and dangerous Indian act of targeting the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which was manifestly done to disrupt the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League X, the PCB has decided to shift the remaining matches to UAE so that the domestic as well as foreign cricketers, who are our precious guests, can be saved from the possible reckless targeting by India.

"As a responsible organisation that has overcome adversities repeatedly and ensured that the game of cricket flourishes, it was important for us to ensure the mental well-being of all players participating in the HBL PSL.

"I regret that our domestic audience and cricket lovers will not be able to watch these matches in Pakistan's stadiums."

Thursday's Punjab Kings-Delhi Capitals match in Dharamsala featuring Australian players Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis and Josh Inglis, as well Punjab coach Ricky Ponting, was abandoned midway through the first innings due to what Indian officials said was a power outage.

The Himalayan hill town of Dharamsala is 200 kilometres from Kashmir, a disputed region where India-Pakistan tensions have increased dramatically in recent weeks.

Dharamsala airport is one of many in the region to have recently closed, meaning players will have to leave the city via bus or train.

"We’re not sure where we’re going at the moment … there’s been some talk about Ahmedabad and some talk about Jaipur, but we’re only really worried about tonight’s match,” Ponting said before Thursday’s game was abandoned.

"You know there’s been a fair bit happening the last few days and we’re just trying to make sure we focus on our performance here."

With the PSL to resume in the UAE, South Africa has been reported as a possible alternate venue for the remaining 16 IPL matches (12 home-and-away games and four finals).

"We are reviewing the situation right now. It is an evolving situation. We haven't received any directive from the government. Obviously the decision will be taken keeping all the logistics in mind," IPL boss Arun Dhumal told the Press Trust of India.

It is a shame there has been no condemnation of a deliberate attack on a cricket stadium by other cricketing countries.

India acted like Al Q terrorists that attacked Sri Lankans team by their attempted attack on Pindi Stadium.

Maybe they should play IPL in New York 🤣🤣
It may just be drama but there are rumours that Naqvi realized to book UAE quickly before the IPL can be shifted there.

I'm not sure how the IPL can be "suspended". It requires a big down of the cricketing calendar so it won't be easy to be rescheduled as players won't be available. The only options were UAE which is booked now by PSL or cancel. Suspended seems like a gentle way of doing it's done for the year.

No one cares about these tamasha leagues. Country comes first.
