He better show his head lots of affection for the next few months because it looks he will never see it again.

The Chinese don't mess around when they find corrupt officials - other nations could learn a lesson or two from them.

One would assume a culture like that would ensure people don't become corrupt at least to such ridiculous extent yet you have this mayor with so much unaccounted for money and gate.

What does it prove other than the so called Chinese check on corruption isn't really working as much as some people tend to portray.

Fact is that corruption is rampant in China.

Politicians who go out of favour with the communist party face political vandetta in the form of corruption charges and are terminated in the most undemocratic way.

If anyone doesn't know the above already he is incredibly naive and entirely dependent on WhatsApp University and social media memes for knowledge.

Corruption might be rampant In China but its at higher level which is around the world , slightly more in China.

In India its also at lower levels which hurts average Indians way more, that is a difference.

If he has accumulated $700 M then obviously he has been corrupt for a long time and his corruption was tolerated. However now the information is public, he will be punished harshly.

Just imagine if half of that money were invested to alleviate poverty.

World poverty can be eradicated completely if corrupt folks like this guy are dealt with.

I do not like Chinese people.

They are way too overclever, in my opinion.

Where there's humans, there will be villainy of some sort. He's been caught, which is different than those who pull such capers in Pakistan and India.

Now watch how they deal with him, which will ensure 99% of others daren't do anything similar, ever.

Yes, as long as the press doesn't report on anybody from ruling politburo .. they'll make a show of catching anyone in local government for the public.

That's some Pakistan level corruption right there.

Although this guy should learn from Shareefs, Bhuttos and Zardaris how to hide stolen money.

Won't be surprised if Chinese hanged him.

This official was eventually sentenced to life...

Not all corrupt officials are so lucky though...

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr"><a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/UPDATE?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#UPDATE</a> China on Friday executed a former top banker accused of taking $260 million worth of bribes, other forms of corruption and bigamy, state broadcaster CCTV reported.<a href="https://t.co/5wjPkbHpvZ">https://t.co/5wjPkbHpvZ</a></p>— AFP News Agency (@AFP) <a href="https://twitter.com/AFP/status/1355128810837053440?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 29, 2021</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Would the subcontinent be less corrupt if they started executing officials and politicians who have stolen from the taxpayer?

No, corrupt people will always exist. All executing does and increase the likelihood of hanging the wrong person.
