Inzamam, Basit deny nepotism charges



KARACHI : Chairman Junior Selection Committee Basit Ali has said that rumours about Chief Selector Inzamamul Haq asking him for a favour with regards to his son’s selection are baseless.

In a video message, Ali said that Inzamam has never called him on this issue and any such news on the social media has no truth in them.

“Such rumours are baseless,” he said. “Inzamam never approached on issue of his son’s selection in the junior side. People should refrain from believing any such news on social media.”

Ali also asked the Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Ehsan Mani to setup an inquiry committee to ensure that malicious elements behind this issue can be brought to justice.

“I would request the PCB Chairman [Ehsan Mani] to investigate this issue in order to ensure that people who are spreading such news are punished,” he said.

Earlier rumours circulated in the social media that Inzamam had called up Ali and inquired about why hasn’t his son been selected in the U19 side.

On the other hand, Inzamam has also denied this rumour and stated that no one has contacted the junior selection committee. He said the allegations came as a surprise to him and he will take the matter to the chairman of PCB.

“I strongly refute this unfounded and malicious claim. For the record, no one from junior selection committee was approached and there is no truth in this. I am taking this matter quite seriously and will be meeting PCB chair for an open enquiry on this matter tomorrow,” he said in a tweet.

Although I'm not the biggest fan of Inzi as CS and also due to how he handled his role as captain, I would take his word over Abdul Qadir any day of the week.

As mentioned by MIG above, that invite from IK has got over his head, so all of a sudden feels entitled to fire from the hip with his verbal diarrhoea.

Him along with some journalists are the biggest enemies to Pakistan cricket. How they are able to spread such rumours without being sued is beyond me.

About time PCB take legal action against these two to set an example, otherwise this precedent set by them, Sarfraz Nawaz and etc is only gonna continue.
