I've been thinking of shifting from Android to Apple for the first time in my life. Would like to know from people here which iOS they personally prefer between iOS and Android?

Android without a shadow of a doubt.

Everything aside you can't even download music from a browser on Iphone :danish

Also you are forced to use garbage Safari and cannot use the best browser in the world, Google Chrome :danish

Iphone doesn't even have fast charging when even cheap Chinese Android phones have it :danish

Iphones used to have the best camera, but now the S8 and the Pixel 2 both have better cameras so thats another downgrade

But can you transfer music from your PC to your iPhone?

I must protest the gratuitous use of "personally." It is redundant. When you prefer something, it's obvious that you're the one preferring it, personally.

Just a thought. Don't take it personally.

Android any day of the week and twice on Sunday...

Android - never owned a I phone.

Used my bro in law I see how smooth everything is, but too expensive

Depends what you use your phone for if you use your phone like a computer iOS feels restrictive if all you want is browsing whatsapp facebook etc then it really doesn't matter though why would you want to spend $8-900 on an iphone to do that if you can get all that in $3-400 android phone.

I own an android phone and have an iphone from work. I prefer android because of flexibility of transferring music, pictures without using itunes (android is just more practical). However, have to say from the looks and performance point of view, IOS is way better. All the apps look and perform better on iphone.

As someone whose Been with Android (versions 3 to 4 and then back to 7.0 now ) and IOS (Iphone 5s IOS 8 to 10) , I have these things to say :

Android :

  • Unlimited customization - If you don't like any app/icon/screen style etc etc , YOU CAN CHANGE IT - Not available on IOS.
  • Bluetooth File transfers, WIFI - Direct content sharing - (available only IOS to IOS on Iphones)
  • Download pirated Music, movies via sites or torrents - Not allowed on Iphone
  • Endless tweaking - Performance add ons, more control over OS, expandable storage
  • Rooting adds endless possibilities, but you'll void your warranty and lose certain services from the manufacturer. But still if you get sick of your phone or OS you can simple root it and it suddenly makes everything look fresh.

There are enough voices in this thread to vouch for Android, so that's all I've to say.

Neverthless there are certain things about iOS i've enjoyed and even after switching to a 2016 Android flagship(S7 ) running android 7, I STILL MISS :

  • Search - Much more powerful and beneficial in iOS.

You can swipe down from any page in the homescreen and it already shows you the recently used apps. You can start typing the search term/word and the nearest sounding Apps, Contacts, web items, news items etc etc are all displayed .
  • What I really love about iOS search is that you can search INSIDE YOUR TEXTS / WHATSAPP/ MESSENGER ie, if I search 'HITMAN' all web news, contacts named hitman, whatsapp conversations with Hitman and even conversations with other contacts or groups where "HITMAN " was mentioned will show up ! That is very useful for trying to retrieve some information from a past conversation that you have had. Haven't seen the same functionality in Android/google now.
  • Fewer steps to perform many functions .
For Example if you have a "PIN" unlock set for your lockscreen , in ANDROID you enter the 4 or 6 digit pin AND THEN PRESS THE 'OK' or 'ENTER' sign ! While in iOS, as soon as you enter the last digit , the verification is complete and you are into the screen. This feature extends to the sign in of most apps in iOS , be it Paytm, or the countless google apps etc . .So basically you are saving the "press Enter " step in most of your logins.
  • Battery optimisation is UNMATCHED. ! Standby battery drain is much much better than on Android.
  • Android services and most non-Stock android skins - LG, Samsung etc drain battery like anything. But again switching to Stock android devices means you end up losing out on some of the best android hardware like the LG, Samsung Flagships.
  • iOS overall manages battery much much better. This was more out of necessity initially as iphones packed much smaller batteries earlier, but since the PLUS models with bigger batteries are available, they have battery performances that match most top Android flagships.
  • Also background drain is much less than in android and so is the power drain by big apps like Faceook or Youtube or Camera.
  • Though tweaking options are much less, iOS lets you control certain things like -NOTIFICATIONS, background APP usage etc much more easily and definitively than android.
For example I can switch between - Popup/banner types or No notification and No lockscreen notifications for an IOS app all on one screen and THATS it.! .

Whereas in 7.0 noughat , turning off Notification is in one screen, configuring them is another menu and worst of all media playing/streaming apps cannot be controlled from LOCKSCREEN (ie, Play pause next) if NOTIFICATIONS ARE SET TO OFF ! Anf if they are ON , you end up gettimg all the promos and offers on your tray. There is no middle ground.
  • UI is very intuitive especially post iOS 10 . I can slide right from the left screen edge to simply go back to previous screen on ANY APP, MENU or BROWSER. ! Though this was done to bypass the lack of a BACK button on iOS, i find it much easier than the back button on Android.
  • Also many of the UI features, like the slide, slide from right-left on texts to see details etc WORK THE SAME ACROSS ALL apps. This if feel is a result of apple maintaining tight controls / directives regarding the design of Apps on IOS. Whereas in Android, I find each app working much differently from another, so the learning curve is much steeper.
  • Reply to notification / texts from the locksreen itself or the notification banner etc, without unlocking or switching apps all Came first in iOS , in iOS 7 or 8 before android got them in 7.0. The handling of notifications is something I feel iOS still does better .
  • App stability/smoothness - I'm not talking about absolute speed here, but for the same app on Android vs IOS , I found many apps like Facebook, Whatsapp, Insta etc worh much less jerky and smoother on iOS, also the interfaces have a degree of familiarity across apps as I mentioned before. But iOS apps are much bigger in size (100MB for Facebook vs 70 on Android) and hence you'd need a 32 Gig model the LEAST. 16GB Iphones are a chore.
  • Even when the phone slows down eventually , the UI latency and animations of iOS distributes the performance drop much more uniformly over the OS , so you find fewer jerks or hangups in APPS. Also major plus, core functionality - Calling / Phone app and Texting rarely slows down.
  • Typing is much better for some reason - I've always found iOS keyboards much more accurate (nothing beats the Windows Phone keyboard though) , and faster (Once android phones slow down the Keyboard is one of the worst affected, which doesn't happen to that extend on iOS).
  • Also top Custom keyboards (like GBOARD, FLexy, Swiftkey) are actually smoother than their Android counterparts.
  • ALSO, you can simply "copy image" gifs and photos from your browser and just "PASTE"it in your text box, which will act as sending a photo in your texting app. Where as in android, you either share only the link, or have to download the pic to gallery forst and THEN add the image from the attchment options. I find that very annoying .
  • Lastly and Most Importantly - APP LIBRARY :
  • This is where I feel iOS has always been better . The Sheer number of quality APPS you have in iOS is way better. You'd feel there are more apps for the same purpose in Android, but a lot of them are poorly made, crappy and bloated with ADS.
  • There any many good completely FREE apps in iOS ,i mean with no ADS or In APP purchases . Whereas because of the weaker revenue option in Android , most developers do have the free apps ridden with much more ADS.
  • The paid apps are really good - I'm not talking about top drawer apps like FB, insta, mail or anything, but the productivity tools, finance/health apps etc, are much better in iOS. The illusion of "FREE" apps tricks you into downloading poorer quality apps in Android.

SO IN SHORT -

If tweaking, customization, downloads etc are your thing then Android is the go to. Also you have the option of storing and add content from outer sources much easier .

If you see yourself as a POWER USER - lots of gaming, constant experimenting with apps, tweaking, heavy downloads and watching stored media , you should definitely go for Android. But Be sure to stick to either Stock Android - Moto , PIXEL or top drawer hardware - flagships from Samsung, LG, OnePlus etc[/B]

Or

If you prefer Calling/Texting/Social media and browsing more than every other functions, and depend mostly on media streaming and Cloud services instead of downloaded content you'll do fine with iOS. ALso you have a much more stable system, with better apps, fewer crashes/hungups and a certain sense of intuition/certainty of how thing will work.

Also for a professional environment, where you mostly handling Information/ data on the cloud, iOS is much better and safer.

Most cloud devices are available on iOS, and since iOS 9 , all google services are present. And you can keep using your Google account to sync your mail, messages contacts and google drive , instead of using the equivalent apple services.

So purely on SOFTWARE Android vs IOS is not a definitive result, but more if what you personally prefer.
