Prithvi's approach is very similar to sehwag.
Will be interesting too see how he plays after powerplay is over.

I was thinking the same. He is more Sehwag than Sachin which is not necessarily a bad thing. Sehwag is sorely missed
 
Shaw kid gone for a stupid shot yet again. Trying to hit every ball to boundary is not a good intent. Let's see what this hack Pant is gonna do now.
 
DD is the cult hero of IPL - whatever they do, it ends in wrong side :( This year, they had a perfectly balanced T20 side - paid handsomely for 2 of the best contemporary T20 players - Munro & Maxi, Plunkett & Boult are also top T20 players and they had GG as Captain, an IPL winner for KKR. Iyer, Pant, Avesh, Mishra .... this should be one of the best IPL sides, if not they best - they are at bottom at half way, might lose today as well in a shorten game!!!!!!!

I think, RCB is closer to Arsenal - has the potential to win CL, plays like champions ..... then ends up winning one Cup in 12 years :( DD is like Holland soccer team - great on papers, great individuals, collective failure.

Anyway, Gunners will make a blunder, if they appoint Buvac as Manager - best is to start from scratch with an young Manager - Tuchel, Enrique or BRogers and give him few years. Buvac at 56, is too old for 1st timer as Manager.

I like a whole paradigm shift of style by buying Simeone. Not possible. That Napoli guy is pretty good with the new relentless pressing style. But inexperienced.

Turn to soccer thread, we'll talk. These days, 99% of my focus is in soccer - today following IPL, because I made sure that no one disturbs me for next 4 hours..... :)
 
I've not watched much of DD, but is Pant always so unsteady when he goes for his big shots? It's coming off today, but this doesn't seem to be a replicable method from a technical perspective. His entire body seems to be shifting and it's late movement, unlike Steve Smith's early trigger.

Iyer on the other hand seems very impressive from a technical standpoint. Some top Indian batsman for those middle order slots. Add Dhoni's resurgence and batting is looking great.
 
Pant also hitting big, but poor bowling by RR, bowling in his swinging arm
 
This Pant kid is one of the most powerful hitters of cricket ball in the world cricket. Absolute raw power!!!
 
Pant will be seen as govesman after the 2019 WC I believe. Looks like a very good batsmen. Obviously we cant expect him to have the finishing skills which pre 2014 Dhoni had.

I want DD to win this.

Why not Dhoni Granpa who has done nothing in last 2 years? At least Rohit has played several matchwinning performances in the last two years and still not that old yet, if he fails one more series, yes we have other young openers to replace him.
 
And Stokes bottles it up.

With time people will understand, Butler is the real deal not Stokes. Butler just has to back himself and not remain in shadow of other players.

Their batting position is the problem. Both must bat in top order in t20 to be utilized 100%.
 
Great game & Finally Delhi won. I guess Delhi, Mumbai, RR & RCB won't qualify.
 
Great. IPL is not for weak hearts for sure. What a tournament.. rightly called the best cricket league in the world.
 
that Short guy is very very poor against who spins the ball.. He's neither coming forward nor going backfoot, that was his issue I guess. nevertheless very good chase by RR but just fall short

Dhoni is the best option we've for WC19. and no, there no hope with DK to finish off.. He always bottle when there's pressure.. one off Nidhas trophy can't change that. And Dhoni I know he's not a finisher no more but he can be used in No. 4 which currently Rahane holding..

Why no 4 given to someone who usually struggles to rotate the strike? Yes rahane should not be in the eleven, but we have a lot of MO players to replace than Dhoni. Don’t want 40 of 60 in the middle overs from grandpa.

bcoz he's the best available option. and no he's not struggling to rotate strike strike, it's just his usual tuk tuk up front.. and middle over you mean 20-40, give me an example when such scenario happens.
 
WOW Iyer is not captaincy material. He was absolutely clueless in the end overs, bottled a catch and looked tense throughout. They should have made Pant or someone else captain.

What do you mean best available? These are the batting options we have for middle order(4-6), Rohit/Rahul, Iyer, Rayudu, Pant, Raina, Samson... all these batsmen are better middle order players than Dhoni. These guys can easily get you 50 of 60 strike rate with less risky shots because of their superior technique.

If you had seen Dhoni in last 2 yrs, you would have seen many games where he started with 10 of 25 balls.. giving out maiden or 1 run a over.

Better than Dhoni how? Have you seen Raina bat recently? He's in a hurry to smash and is a hit or miss. Rohit and Rahul are top order batsmen and have flopped in the middle order. Rayudu is a HTB. Pant is a hack as seen in Nidahas. Samson is an FTB and inconsistent. Iyer can't play pace as seen in SA series. Dhoni the batsman is better, Dhoni the ex captain is very valuable, Dhoni the keeper is better than everybody.

so on what basis you still want Dhoni in the team? Did you see how he performed in SA? played like tailender..

only in this IPL he is playing better than usual. even in IPL, he was the worst IPL batsmen in the last 3 yrs prior this IPL.

Whats wrong in picking playrs based on performance from IPL? You are talking as if Dhoni has played all those great innings away from home on bowler friendly wickets? most of his great innings were played only at home on those flat pitches. Iyer, Pant, Samson,etc., are young. this grandpa is old. he is not going to get younger.. even karthik is a better option than Dhoni.

Please dont compare Dhoni with regular Indian batsmen. I would defenitely pick Raina over Dhoni any day. obviously better batsman if you have seen enough cricket. Dhoni with WK is better package. I had no issues with him being in the team when he was young.. until 2 yrs ago.. now he is old. should be booted out if he is not ready to retire.

Raina can replace Jadav. Not Dhoni. Seeing how clueless Kohli is with captaincy, Dhoni is deaperately needed. Also with two young spinners in the side, Dhoni's presence is desperately required for his guidance. If there is a tough wicket, all the Pants, Iyers, Rayudus and Samsons will be blown away. Dhoni has proved time and again he can get a respectable score. His hitting seems to have improved in this IPL and his experience is invaluable. There is no replacement until WC 19

on what basis? he's the best available WK in the country. Young cricketers need to earn their places, just bcoz of they're young they won't get it.
