What to expect: The team winning the toss will choose to field and that isn't a surprise. The dew factor will worry the captains with Karthik revealing it's been hard to predict if and when it'll come down.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) begin their campaign for the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), with a match against defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI). MI were defeated in the IPL 2020 opener by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 19. The defending champions will look to get back to winning ways, in the clash against KKR at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium, Abu Dhabi.

KOLKATA KNIGHT RIDERS

Andre Russell: The Windies all-rounder has been a consistent performer for KKR over the years. Russell emerged as a match-winner in several games last season, and will look to deliver more of the same against MI. The 32-year-old has scored 1400 runs in 64 IPL matches at a strike rate of 186.41. Russell has further accounted for 55 wickets and 21 catches.

Dinesh Karthik: The KKR skipper will be looking to make his presence felt down the order, as a finisher. Karthik is yet to lead the franchise on to a title win, which he will certainly target in the 2020 edition. The 35-year-old has accumulated 3654 runs in 182 matches at a strike rate of 129.80. Karthik has also completed 109 catches and 30 stumpings.

Sunil Narine: The all-rounder has made his mark for KKR as a pinch-hitter at the top of the order, after initially grabbing the limelight as a mystery spinner. Narine will be expected to deliver more of the same against MI, having picked 122 wickets in 110 matches at an economy rate of 6.67. A quickfire cameo at the top of the order by Narine, might well put MI under a lot of pressure.

MUMBAI INDIANS

Rohit Sharma: The Mumbai Indians skipper can change the momentum of the game singlehandedly with the willow, and will be expected to deliver the same against KKR. A solid knock from Rohit at the top of the order, might well put the KKR bowling attack under pressure, setting the stage for a maiden win.

Hardik Pandya: The all-rounder failed to make an impact against CSK, with his early dismissal resulting in a total which was lower than expected. Hardik, however, will be smacking his lips in anticipation of another good performance against KKR, against whom he smacked 91 runs off 34 balls in the previous edition.

Kieron Pollard: The Windies cricketer comes into the IPL, on the back of a record-breaking triumph in the CPL with the Trinbago Knight Riders. Pollard can smash the ball to all corners of the ground on his day, as well as account for some quick dismissals with his slow, deceptive deliveries. MI will be optimistic of a quality performance from Pollard, who can change the game single-handedly.

These two teams will bring the West Indian flavour that has been missing till now in this IPL.

KKR will have a mostly inexperienced bowling line up unless both Cummins and Ferguson play. Even then Cummins is not all that in this format. Could get ugly if Rohit gets going today

Kolkata Knight Riders have won the toss and have opted to field

Kolkata Knight Riders (Playing XI): Sunil Narine, Shubman Gill, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan, Andre Russell, Dinesh Karthik(w/c), Nikhil Naik, Pat Cummins, Kuldeep Yadav, Sandeep Warrier, Shivam Mavi

Mumbai Indians (Playing XI): Rohit Sharma(c), Quinton de Kock(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Hardik Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Krunal Pandya, James Pattinson, Rahul Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Indian bowlers and their habit of bowling at the pads and not a yorker.

Mumbai should win.

KKR mostly have Russell and Narine.

What? KKR is the strongest team in this IPL.

Narine
Gill
Morgan
Nitish Rana
Russel
DK

Two very good Indian locals with Gill being best young batsman in India, and Nitish Rana is also a good player.

Cummins
Mavi
Warrier
Kuldeep

Give a better XI than this.

KKR lost that x factor. They are like South Africa of the old. Strong on paper but something is missing.

KKR bat deep , but issue is they do not have stable batsmen , they rely on individual hitters , they basically have players who can play cameos , so in the end relies on 3 - 4 batters firing

Lmao Cummins is such trash loi bowler Kolkata got excited over his looks and payed him a **** Ton

Cummins smashed for 49 in 3 an some people think Dilbar etc will run through IPL lineups :))

The first over was 140ish

So far all 130 by Mavi in this over

Karthik is a pathetic captain. How is he captain when Morgan is in the line up?

If he bowls 140ish now, he will get smashed. The idea is to being economical at this point by using variation in pace and not necessarily to bowl fast.

Looks like Karthik has given up. Its Morgan who is setting fields and chatting with bowlers.

It was the same situation with Rahane at RR last year. Smith took over eventually and RR nearly got to the play offs.

Mccullum and Morgan are extremely close. I will be shocked if Mccullum didn't ask for Morgan to be captain and the owners won't let him change.

If KKR keep Karthik as captain, I don't see them reaching the play offs.

He was banging those 130ks deliveries in quite hard. Also I don’t see the logic behind the 130km low full tosses

Cummins is better than any bowler in Pakistan right now.

I concur.. no doubt about that... Nd for his case he was bowling to rohit nd pandya...
Two best hitter of the cricket balls...

Replace Cummins with any pakistani bowler he will handed out worst treatment

I just ignore you. Don't get how that is crying.

I dare you make a thread about how Pat Cummins went for 50 in 3 overs but is better than anything in Pakistan right now, you will be shown your worth again.

You are spot on. Most Pakistan bowlers would be beaten black and blue here.

Cummins has been expensive.

Not sure what is wrong with Cummins right now but he was bowling trash in England as well. He keeps bowling the same short delivery that gets hit for a boundary every time. Brainless!

If Pollard isn't going to bowl, what is the point of batting him at 6? Tirway is average. Pollard should bat at 4.

Whenever MI Batsmen hit ball on the leg side it's seem like it always on the gap..

They should go with proper opening.. don't think Narine do much if Bumrah opens the ball..

Maybe for the next game. Today it looks like he will open. They let Lynn go, they should have signed a specialist opener. Morgan ,Russell, and Rana is a seriously good middle order.

lol I take it back. mavi's action is horrible. poor full tosses and wides. I am not sure if he will be part of India's future.

Narine is a hit and miss player , If Narine can play a cameo of 20 odd runs , that sets tone for KKR

Gill was poor today....played out a maiden and then threw his wicket away.

I pointed out that last year in Ashes he was finding difficult to bowl against tailenders due to lack of Yorkers and bowling short all the time.
This trick might work in test cricket where you can test the patience of a batsman but not in Lois where you need variations.

cummins is an average odi/t20 player.

He is a good test bowler in SENA. Poor in subcontinent just like all his other aussie counterparts.

cummins is a bit overrated imo.

Be patient, you can't have results in one day.

jaiswal
paddikal
panchal
gaikwad
gill
Shaw

plenty of talent. or is it talunt? just kidding. India are stacked. Need to be patient. Too much pressure on these kids. It's very hard to get into the Indian team.

Good catch by Kock.. Narine wasted power play.. he'll be good against team's like RR, CSK, SRH etc ..

Not sure where Gill is going with his clean shaved face and ear rings. Coming across as quite the effeminate with his outlook.

Needs to stand up and bat like a bandey da puttar with his proper Punjabi genes.
