Domain flipping used to be profitable back in the days but is it still profitable?

There have been quite a few new extensions. I myself have bought a few (some are one word domain names).

My question is, should I wait a few years before selling it or should I just abandon the idea completely?

This is probably the least liquid market that exists in the world.

You have to hope that someone really likes the name of the domain you hold to pay you a premium. Many people prefer to popularize names that are not obvious, like xoom rather than pay a premium for a domain name.

Domain valuation services are quite useless, so any domain you hold in the expectation that someone will buy it at a premium is essentially an asset that you have no idea of the value.

Agreed to this.

In current world, it doesn't hold much value as people have moved from web platform to mobile platform where domains don't really matter much as it will be in the backend which most don't care about.

And start ups will always try to find a name which they could trademark atleast in some sectors. By buying an existing domain, it's pretty much evident that they will run to issue of trademark later on.

Thanks, guys.

Looks like I need to abandon this plan. I will probably not renew the domains next time. I bought these in order to sell.

You are welcome. Also, I agree with Itachi's point that the value of domains has also gone down due to the growth of mobile.
