Sports, politics - do they mix enough for Governments to be banning viewing of sports events?

Its stupid. There should be no politics in sports. I am sure its the output of the pea brain Fawad Ch.

Its a silly short sighted policy.

Sooner or later IPL as well as Indian cricket matches will be back on TV in Pakistan and the broadcasters will look like hypocrites who are just going back on their word.

We saw the same thing happen with India/Doordarshan TV with PSL. We should learn from others rather than repeating the same mistakes ourselves

Doordarshan didnot broadcast PSL.

The govt in India didnot ban PSL.

There should be no bans of broadcasting or players. Both countries should be hiring players from every country without exception, same as they do for others. Then let whoever wants to watch the leagues get on with it. It's only a game, keep the warmongering for other issues.

This wasn't need because IPL rights to broadcast in Pakistan were unsold anyway.

Yep, we needed to offer the other cheek, obviously they love us so much that viewing any Masaala tournament is better then things like self respect and all!

Sports and Politics don't mix but it is meaningless when others have been doing the opposite for decades on

Do people realize that the IPL discriminates against Pakistanis every single year? Even if there were no current political tensions, the IPL should not be broadcasted in Pakistan and the PCB should pressure other countries to do the same.

I don't have any issues with it. Don't think anyone is losing anything due to this ban.

Do people in Pakistan actually watch IPL? I have never seen a full IPL game.. maybe clips or highlights here and there

Yes of course! If African-Americans were blackballed from a major sports league in America then they would boycott it so why shouldn't Pakistan do the same when their cricketers are being blackballed by the IPL? People on here are too emotional and love to make politically correct statements without understanding the nuances.

I guess the bigger question is how much revenue will be lost by doing so. If there is a market for IPL and local broadcasters who own the rights to show the games make money, they will lose the revenue.

But I would be curious to know if there is a market for it in pakistan. With the oversaturated domestic T20 league market, I am sure fans have other leagues to get their cricket fix compared to IPL where their players don’t even feature.

Really? So why did the BCCI include Pakistani players in the very first season of the IPL back in 2008? And then once again they were allowed back in 2010, except no one bid for them.

Something happened in 2009. The PCB refused to allow the Pak players to participate in the 2009 season of the IPL.

So who started it, the BCCI or the PCB?

Not sure if serious.

No, I really do not support this decision. What India did wasn't right, but Pakistan is also doing the same thing.
I am sure there were many Indians who wanted to watch PSL, and I am sure there are Pakistanis who want to watch IPL 2019 as well.
There shouldn't be any politics on Cricket and Sports at all.
