id keep him on for a few series just to help smooth the transition and hopefully he can step up to the plate.

It's a moot point because if anything his position in the team will become stronger at the end of the series

On form he deserves to be dropped

But the fact that the two big guns are retiring means that he will get an extended run in the side

Another of Mickey Arthur's massive bungle ups

I would give a series at 4. And if he doesn't live up to expectations then drop him. You've invested 6-7 years into this man, you might as well give him a proper go before you cut your losses.

His batting intent looked positive and given that Pakistan have so many tuk-tuk in their team, he needs to be there as he has got more range of shots than the likes of Azhar or Sami.

However, his consistency is a massive issue and is turning out to be Pakistan's Rohit Sharma in tests although we expected him to become the Rahane of Pakistan test team.

Don't blame him for the intent but the shot selection could be.... :afridi

Shot-selection was awful but expected from someone who is not a hitter by any stretch of imagination. Asad himself is a slow operator who was accelerating and was made to bat outside of his comfort zone courtesy a tortoise "batting" alongside him.

If Asad Shafiq doesn't score big today, then he should be dropped!

Last chance saloon surely

Wow this is big when Shafiq's biggest fan turns against him :afridi

I was a big fan as well, but you can't have someone who's not performing in the team.

However I would keep him, ONLY because he should get one last chance at 4, since YK is gone.

Probably not permanently, but yes he should be dropped. He has been a passenger for too long.

But the reality is that, after this series, Pakistan will have more batting slots available than they do mediocre batsmen to fill those slots. So they will have to include him.

Almost all turned against him a long time ago including Slog and Mamoon.

I believe the last remaining one is Pete Rose. :danish

Anyhow - that guy has talent and played some great knocks in testing circumstances in the past but now he just has to go. A complete liability and has been in poor form since forever.

Would be stupid to drop him now, have already invested in him.

Better to cut your loses now than continue to suffer.

Fawad Alam/Usman Salahuddin/Haris Sohail MUST replace Shafiq ASAP.

This line indicates you are still a fan! :afridi

Shafiq cant play well on pitches where ball does not come well on bat. He will be a bit better on flatter pitches with a bit of bounce.

Nope

Fawad is a hack, Usman does tuk tuk, and Haris is always injured.

I would rather give a chance to a hack or a tuk tuk or even an injury prone player if they prove to be more consistent and up for the right than Shafiq.

I'd rather go with U. Amin or U. Akmal

Umar Amin is even more timid than Shafiq - IMO that will be going two steps backward.

Umar Akmal is a risky proposition - he can play strokes which is something we sorely need in our Test team but he done little to suggest in the last few years that he is cut for Test cricket.

Umar Amin is another hyped up player for his technique.
Weak defense. Not good enough for longer formats.
In 7 years we will be saying the same about Amin as we are saying for Shafiq now; failed investment.

Yes because David Warner is Gavaskar of technique

I don't his technique is hyped like Asad's. Amin is famous for his 'classy shots' and 'range of strokes'.

Haris is far superior to both.

One of very few players who won man of match in a losing cause away from home.

But he has been heavily inconsistent and a mental midget.

Same old stuff, we will try new players and when they fail people will be wanting Asad back because he has been playing earlier.

New players should be given chances and not only one series but at least 3-4 serieses.

Now dropped two catches today... man, he makes it so tough for anyone to back him. Poor stuff.

Should be dropped purely based on his shambolic fielding! let alone his batting!

He has got tiny hands..why is he persisted with in slips?

He has average 39 after so many test ...and always falter at time of need and some say like geo experts he best player of pakistan and should be playing one day international.simply he cant score in gap and made 100 after 20 innings flop.and very vulnerable to new ball.
He suited to number 5 or 6 not no 4.

Timid. No confidnce. No leadership. No character.

All the technique but his mental side is done and tbh I'd be happy to see him dropped

He didn't deserve to be in the team after his abysmal performances in WI. He needs to be dropped ASAP. He's not a bad player but when we have better, younger options, I don't see the need in playing him.
