He has been a thorn in every opposition's side for a good few years - and whilst his credentials in T20s are well known, he has also shown his ability to change games in Tests as well.

Truly a man for all seasons but for now - lets discuss if he is the best T20I batsman in the world.

By the way his innings of 77 off 54 was a sight to behold last night against a bowling attack which is pretty decent.

It is a toss between him and Rohit. If either of these two batsmen bat for 12-15 overs, England/India are pretty much guaranteed to win.

Its very hard to say who is the best t20I batter. While joss is been super and consistent and explosive in the recent past but I will still have Virat as the top batsman as he has done it at the biggest stage. His innings vs Australia on a tricky surface in a virtual quarter final was just something else. 43 were needed off 19 and he Single Handedly chased it down. They were nailing down the yorkers and he was chopping them down to point boundary by opening the face of bat. In the very next match he scored a brilliant 89 vs W.I. He also scored 72 vs SA in a semi. So all in all joss might be good but he is yet to prove himself at Wt20

Buttler
Rohit
Kohli

The top 3 T20I batsman by some distance. The order is debatable.

Then you have the likes of KL Rahul knocking on the door.

Don't think so.

Warner, Bairstow, Roy, Rahul and Morgan are pretty close.

They are all very good players but no one would pick them ahead of the three I mentioned.

Agree. But better by "some distance" ? Don't think so. The gap is not that big between say a Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow or even a Kohli and Morgan.

Kohli is a better T20 batsman than Rohit by a good margin.
He averages 15 more at the same strike rate and we all have seen that he can go all guns blazing when required.
Actually he is the GOAT t20i batsman, his stats along with T20 world cup performances prove that.

You need to watch Kohli's performance in 2016,where he dominated each and every tournament,Morgan is yet to do anything close to that.
Kohli wasn't paying much attention to t20s before this year ,he skipped a lot of matches otherwise he would have been on top of the rankings.

Virat is GOAT level in T20Is. But on current form it has to be Buttler or Rahul.
When i look at them, Buttler and Rahul, seem the two most difficult batsman to bowl to. They have all the shots one can think of.

Virat Kohli is still the best T20 batter for me. Warner ,Finch, and Buttler are behind him.

Some of the shots he played yesterday were incredible.

No backlift, just pure timing with the ball racing to the boundary.

What a player.

Based on current stats (last 2 years), it's Hafeez. Average of 96 (includes series against Australia, England and New Zeland, the top 3 t20 teams) with a strike rate of 150+

I would say he stands right up there with Hafeez 3.0 these days

Kohli still remains the goat t20 bat.But rahuls stocks have fallen considerably.

1. Gayle
2. Kohli
3. ABD
4. Buttler
5. Pollard

Not interested in stats. I believe only my eyes.

Two of the very best batsmen in the T20I format seem to both be treating us to their very best form in today’s game. Kohli and Buttler.

83* by Buttler (in 3rd T20I) is the highest score for an England batsman against India surpassing Eoin Morgan's 71 in Edgbaston in 2014.

So good to watch.

If he bats for 4 or 5 overs then you know the match is most likely going to go England's way.

Another century today.

106 not out off just 60 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

What a player.

Rajasthan Royals opening batter was at his blistering best against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Qualifier 2 of the ongoing IPL 2022 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. The right-handed batter went on to play an unbeaten knock of 106 to help Rajasthan chase down 158 with seven wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare. As a result of this win, Rajasthan booked their place in the IPL 2022 final where they will take on Gujarat Titans on Sunday at the same venue.

Speaking at a press conference after the game against RCB, RR Director of Cricket, Kumar Sangakkara said it is hard to describe what Buttler has done for the franchise this season and he cannot remember anyone else batting this well in the history of the tournament.

"It is hard to describe what he has done for us this season in terms of T20 batting. He started off so well, he had a little bit of flutter at one point in the tournament, but then you know he calmed himself down and had a lot of good conversations rather than just training. He accepted that he is a mortal, he is a human and he can't be at that high level of excellence every single day," said Sangakkara while replying to a NDTV query during a virtual press conference.

"And to understand how you kind of reach that level every game at different stages, somedays you have to fight and look ugly, other days your rhythm is there and the reality is that you cannot fight the condition, you just have to settle into it and build the innings. He can accelerate at any point; he has got all the strokes. He is a lovely guy and he understands the game really well. I cannot remember anyone batting this well in the history of the IPL," he further stated.

In the ongoing edition, Buttler has registered four centuries and he is just the second batter after Virat Kohli to score these many tons in a single edition of the tournament.

Buttler is also just the third batter to score more than 800 runs in a single edition of the IPL. Earlier, Virat Kohli and David Warner had registered more than 800 runs in 2016.

So far, Buttler has registered 824 runs in 16 games this season.

I haven't watched the IPL but even in international cricket he was doing great things.
So he probably is. His weak point should have been in Asia, but even there the hundred he scored against Sri Lanka in the world cup was wonderful.

Clearly enjoyed that 100!

England's new test coach Brendon McCullum has hinted at a possible return to red-ball duty for Jos Buttler following a blistering run-spree in the Indian Premier League.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Buttler was dropped after a lacklustre return during England's woeful 4-0 Ashes series loss in Australia.

Despite being one of the world's best white-ball run-scorers, the 31-year-old averages a modest 31.94 in test cricket.

And there was no place for Buttler in England's squad for next week's opening test against McCullum's native New Zealand at Lord's, with Ben Foakes and Jonny Bairstow selected ahead of what will be the new coach's first game in charge.

Buttler, however, has been in spectacular form for the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL, powering the team into Sunday's final of the Twenty20 franchise competition on the back of four centuries in 16 games, with an average of 58.85 and a stunning strike-rate of 151.47.

McCullum, who saw Buttler's brilliance in the IPL first-hand as coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, is clearly intrigued by the possibility of getting more out of a player who, for all his undoubted talent, has so far managed just two centuries in exactly 100 test innings.

"Jos is one of those players you look at instantly and think how could he be so dominant in one form of the game and not quite have found his feet, other than a few fleeting performances, in test cricket?," said former New Zealand captain McCullum, himself renowned as an attacking batsman.

"There's certainly guys you look at and think there's a lot of talent that could improve the side given the right opportunity. There's no reason why, if you're good at T20, you can't bring those skills into test cricket and you look at some of the guys who have dominated the IPL in the last two months."

McCullum is also open to reviving the test careers of spinners Moeen Ali and Adil Rashid, even though the former is officially retired from red-ball internationals.

And he is also "ready to have a conversation" about giving Liam Livingstone, who struck the fastest T20 century by an England batsman, off 42 balls against Pakistan last year, a chance at test level.

"Obviously you've got the likes of Livingstone, Mooen, Rashid," said McCullum.

"All these guys have played international cricket before, been successful in the other forms of the game and you'd think they'd be able to transition across."

Rajasthan Royals star Jos Buttler has the chance to break some massive records when they take on Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. In the Royals' Qualifier 2 win against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Buttler scored his fourth century of the season, matching Virat Kohli's record from the 2016 edition. If Buttler manages to score a century in the final, he will go past Kohli, with five centuries.

Bit of a let down - Buttler failing I suppose:

Last Wkt: Jos Buttler c Saha b Hardik Pandya 39(35) - 79/4 in 12.1 ov.

Had an epic tournament on a personal level.

Can come home with his head held high.

Jos Buttler Surpasses David Warner To Finish 2nd To Virat Kohli In Elite IPL List

Jos Buttler's magnificent season in IPL 2022 came to an end with a decent effort in the summit clash against Gujarat Titans as he was dismissed for 39 by Titans skipper Hardik Pandya.

Buttler was holding the Royals innings together with wickets falling at the other end, but Hardik bowled a great delivery in the channel outside the off stump and managed to get a faint edge, which was caught by wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha.

Buttler's dismissal meant he ended the season with 863 runs from 17 matches, which makes him all but certain to take home the Orange Cap this season for being the highest run-getter in IPL 2022.

Buttler hit a record-equalling 4 centuries this season and also added 4 fifties to propel Royals to their first final since winning the tournament in 2008.

Buttler's tally of 863 runs is the second highest ever in a single IPL season as he went David Warner's 2016 tally of 848 runs.

This places Buttler in the second position for the most runs in a single IPL season behind Virat Kohli, who phenomenal IPL 2016 season yielded 973 in just 16 matches.

Buttler's dismissal led to a collapse as Gujarat Titans took full control of the final with captain Hardik Pandya producing a fantastic spell of bowling of 3/17 in 4 overs.

Made to look very ordinary in the 1st T20I vs India today

Can’t play the moving ball

That’s why he failed in Tests.

Quickfire 22 at the top of the order to get a big England innings off to a flyer today

England captain Jos Buttler says he is "100% fit" to return after almost two months out with a calf injury.

Buttler will lead England in the first of three Twenty20 internationals against Australia on Sunday as they finalise their World Cup preparations.

The 32-year-old has not played since The Hundred, and sat out all of England's 4-3 series win in Pakistan.

"The fitness is good," Buttler told BBC Sport. "I'm feeling great and excited to play cricket again."

England meet the T20 World Cup hosts and defending champions in Perth on Sunday (09:10 BST) before two matches in Canberra on Wednesday and Friday.

They then have one more warm-up match with Pakistan - unlikely to be a full international - in Brisbane on 17 October, before their World Cup campaign begins against Afghanistan in Perth on 22 October.

Though Buttler is fit, England still have concerns over batter Liam Livingstone, who has also been out since The Hundred with an ankle injury and could miss the start of the tournament.

"He is still a little way off at the minute so he's building back," Buttler said. "Hopefully he'll get back to full fitness before the start of the World Cup."

Livingstone is one of three players to have joined up with England since the Pakistan tour, alongside pace bowler Chris Jordan and all-rounder Ben Stokes.

Test captain Stokes is set to play his first T20 international since March 2021, likely batting at number four.

"Ben is someone we want to try to give as much opportunity to impact the game as possible," Buttler said.

"We want to get him up the order as high as we can, give him as much responsibility as possible and allow him to play his way to get the best out of him."

Buttler's return at the top of the order means England will have to make a choice between Phil Salt and Alex Hales, who opened together in all but one of the matches in Pakistan.

"They are both fantastic options, with different styles," said Buttler. I'll have a good chat with the coach [Matthew Mott] and decide who is the best option."

Australia have rotated their squad, having only completed a 2-0 series win over West Indies on the opposite side of the country in Brisbane on Friday.

Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa have all been rested.

Batter Tim David made 42 from 20 balls in Friday's victory in his fifth match for Australia.

David, 26, had played 14 previous internationals for Singapore, the country of his birth, and built his reputation through a string of impressive performances in franchise tournaments across the globe.

"Now he's in our team and our set-up, it's a godsend," said opener David Warner.

"He's an incredible player. He has some serious power, so it boosts our middle order, and to come out and play like that and with his height as well, and strength, it suits us, that's for sure."

Wow we are playing again already!

Tomorrow. Didn’t even know about this.

Should be a good game/series.
