Started watching Stranger Things yesterday and am hooked onto it

Prolly 4th or 5th Netflix show in last 2 years I have been hooked onto

I think netflix is just smashing others in terms of quality content now

only criticism would be that the show quality seems to drop post 1st season

Absolutely.

Stranger Things
House of Cards
Orange is the New Black
Narcos
Daredevil

And that's just what I watch. Lots of quality stuff put out by Netflix in the last few years.

But HBO is legit too with Game of Thrones, Westworld, and Silicon Valley.

They are spending like $6 billion this year alone so it bounds to be good. They are buying the best talent, giving upcoming writers and directors a chance on this platform.

HBO is still the best when it comes to all time great shows, recently Westworld.

Yeah Netflix is probably the best right now, House of Cards may have declined but it's still my favourite show and Stranger Things was absolutely brilliant can't wait for season 2.

BBC iplayer have been quality but don't think folk have global access and Amazon Prime is pretty good to. I have Amazon Prime though, they had a pretty good deal for students; shows which I love on there: Sneaky Pete, Vikings, Black Sails, The Man in the High Castle, The Grand Tour, Casual and Young Justice. It's actually a hidden gem, they have some pretty decent movies and tend to get recent releases to

Stranger things is beyond overrated and awful, the only decent netflix show has been black mirrors, have not seen house of cards yet, Narcos was a good popcorn flick series with many flaws.

Mindhunter could be another good thing because David Fincher has never directed anything ordinary.

Watch it then first. Especially, first 3 season.

Netflix also does come out with a lot of dross, that does not make it past the first season, or two - remember the financial disaster that was Marco Polo (billed as Netflix's answer to Game of Thrones).

I know its on a much smaller scale, but some of the stuff the BBC comes out with is great, despite a very limited budget (compared to the likes of Netflix, HBO, Amazon). Trailer for new show Gunpowder looks promising, and have had successful and highly rated shows in the past inc. Sherlock, Dr Who, Top Gear (once upon a time), etc...

Stranger Things, Narcos and House of Cards were superb, really enjoyed them all.

Finding enough time to watch all these series is the problem :)

House of Cards is fantastic.

I've just watched first episode of stranger things and it was really intense

Does it get that bad?

Yaar Stranger Things is one of the best out there. The thing is for every single "Stranger Things" there are 5 or 6 lame shows that fall through the cracks, but I agree with the overall premise of the thread. Netflix certainly produces the best content. HBO isn't far behind.

My fav shows on Netflix:

Stranger Things
Narcos
The Killing (The series is split into two parts of 2 seasons each, only say first two, didn't have the heart to watch rest. People should definitely watch it, it is SO gripping)
Daredevil (season one)
White Collar
All the good standup comedy series..

Narcos series 3 coming soon also - 1st September.

STRANGER THINGS - My fav. show ever, its simply the best tv show ever produced

NARCOS - Overrated in my opinion, dont like reading the english subs and one series should have been enough

HOUSE OF CARDS - Was my fav. before stranger things, but an excellent show, top quality

ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK - Saw the first few episodes and stoped, quite useless

THE MARVEL SERIES - Every marvel series has been outclass and superb, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Luke Cage. All were very gripping and action scenes were well done. Luke Cage was my fav. Also started Defenders and im loving it.

Have been meaning to get around to watching Stranger Things, it's been in my bookmarks for a while.

Don't bother with House of Cards beyond Season 1.

How is black sails?Any idea anyone?

Incredible series very gripping, edgy and gritty; it's the most authentic depiction of pirates, it's set during the golden age of piracy. It's not on Netflix though, series is produced by Starz.

In the UK it's on Amazon Prime :)) very strange indeed, I think during it's inception the series was shown on youtube and given its popularity was then picked up globally.

Iron Fist - What a ****** show. Did not like it at all. The Iron fist comes across as big man baby whining all the time. Also hated the Defenders.. Useless show - stopped after watching 4-5 episodes.

The House of Cards first 3 seasons were really good. Season 4 was meh and have not watched season 5 yet.

Another show called Riverdale was pretty good. I really liked it.

All I've seen of Iron Fist was a clip of one fight scene and it was so unbelievably terrible that it cemented the show as a complete waste of time. How you gonna make a show about one of the greatest martial artists in the world and have terrible action?

Netflix makes a lot of garbage as well like iron fist. HBO doesn't have as many great series these days as t usually does but in terms of pure quality, HBO is untouchable. I would've said AMC as well before breaking bad and mad men ended

To each their own. You might like it.

I saw the full season and didn't find it original. It's been inspired by a lot of 80s sci fi. The whole story felt cheesy.

dude stranger things simply cannot be the best tv show, I don't like it but it can be appealing to others, but putting it above Breaking bad and game of thrones is a farce.

Netflix got some good shows (I. e. Black Mirror) but for better shows I go somewhere else:
The man in the high castle -AMC
Better call Saul -AMC
Westworld-HBO
GOT-HBO
Walking Dead -AMC

Netflix are doing amazing, I am surprised they are still floating based on how much they have invested in the past few years with no profit to show for it.

HBO is still my number one tho, Game of Thrones, The Night Of, Westworld, True Detective (special mention to previous shows such as Sopranos and The Wire).

The Man in the High Castle is an Amazon Prime original, not AMC.

Even DareDevil had better martial arts skills with amazing action compared to Iron Fist who is supposed to be the grand master  Am also sure Iron Fist is not meant to be a pansy white boy :)))

Well, he's a white boy in the comics but yeah, shouldn't be a pansy. He's yet another one of those tropes where the white man goes east and immediately becomes better than the natives at whatever it is they have spent centuries mastering. Dr. Strange is another good example of this when it comes to Marvel.

Can't have an Asian chap as Iron Fist because it's not as marketable as a white boy. Same reason they picked a half-white girl as Princess Jasmine for the live action Aladdin, middle class white girls don't want to dress up and pretend they're a brown girl.

I've not read Iron Fist comics but when the show was released there were people complaining that he wasn't asian so I assumed he was from the east in his comic origins.

I get that but now more then ever if it's in line with the characters origins then they should be more open because people are more accepting imo although I can't speak on behalf of the world but defo Brum :afridi, thank god a white person is not playing Black Panther imagine that :))

Too many shows, too much competition, the market is flooded right now. NBC, ABC, CBS, Fox, TNT, AMC, FX, HBO, Showtime etc. on TV and subscription services like Netflix, Amazon and Hulu on net. Its insane.

How does anyone get the time to watch even the 10 best shows from all sources. I am not even sure which is better cause I have not watched even the famous ones, let alone all.

Netflix probably has the most money of all and are trying to dominate the market by buying up all the good talent. They just did a deal with Shonda Rhimes, got letterman out of retirement and are giving green light to shows by the Coen brother and Steven Soderbergh. They are already huge and will soon become from a disrupting force to the gold standard.

BTW, has anyone seen Ozark on Netflix. I'm having an up and down reaction to it so far but if anyone is into dark and intense drama, definitely worth a visit. Can't wait for Narco's season 3 airing in 2 days.

13 Reasons Why was also an excellent if somewhat hard to watch series.

I've started watching Ozark, which looks pretty good.

The first two episodes of Ozark were so so, which is why I didn't watch further.. but people tell me it really picks up after.

it was raiing cats and dogs today so i stayed home
binge watched 13 reasons why and finished it

really liked it till episode 5 or so. became a bit silly near the end

I have a bad feeling about Narcos.

Could easily be the start of a steep decline.

Yes, very easily, since Pablo Escobar, the person which the whole series was based on is dead now and Wagner Moura, the best actor of the last 2 seasons will be gone with him.

Same here but I persisted and by episode 5 it gets really interesting. Still way too dark and pessimistic. Not that I don't like dark subjects, but everyone except the kids are portrayed as a bad person, or more grey on the scale of black and white. I'm also finding it hard to find sympathy with the protagonist, unlike Breaking Bad where one can immediately find empathy with Walter White, even till the last season. Still got a few episodes to finish so lets see.

Netflix is really doing a good job. I watched Ozark and liked it. Though it was dark and had shades of Breaking Bad.

A majority of these shows are American. Just wondering how people in other countries relate to it. I mean, the actors are American, set in America, portrays American culture etc, etc.

This goes for movies as well. How do people in other countries watch a foreign show/movie? I have to admit that I am not able to relate to any English/Australian movies, shows even though there is no language barrier. I certainly cannot watch German, Korean or any other subtitled/dubbed shows.

Not sure about TV shows but you're really missing out on Korean movies.

Their film industry is fantastic.

Between Netflix and HBO I think you got the best tv covered.

My favorite Netflix shows has to be DD though. Stranger things comes second. There is a will smith sci-fi show coming up that looked cool too

There seem to be plenty of them on Netflix. But I have not watched because of my dislike to keep reading subtitles.

If Korean movies are good, why have they not become mainstream like American movies the world over? The language and subtitle reading are probably the issue.

Recently watched Atypical

Really a nice uplifting mood series

I think HBO still is at the top with gems like Game of Thrones, Westworld, The Leftovers and The Night Of; in the past year alone. With GoT finishing soon, they need to get a move with that adaptation of Foundation.

Netflix is alright but its next year, when they can truly break both in film and TV.

Altered Carbon- They book is so damn good and if they get right, it is going to amazing. Scifi, cyberpunk and part detective noir; set 700 years in the future.
Black Mirror- The best show they have right now, even though the quality dipped from the first two seasons.
Daredevil- Brilliant first season, and a very good second one.
The Ballad of Buster Scruggs- Coen brothers western anthology series.
The Eddy- Damien Chazelle's (Whiplash, La La Land) new musical series which was just announced.

That is one heck of a line-up, should they all make it in 2018.

Definitely has to do with the language barrier. I don't mind the subtitles but I can see how that's an issue.

Otherwise, the production quality is top-notch and their scripts are original.

That's what I've heard. I've only watched 2 episodes so far and the second was brilliant, but I've heard it gets better.

Gave up on Ozark - became flat and quite boring.

I've started watching Power. Series about a New York nightclub owner who is also a drug dealer. So far, so good.

Have to say Netflix has made some gems.

Narcos: This is an amazing show. Someone called it overrated but I think its a great show and I loved the fact how they kept certain segments in Spanish to keep it authentic. Initially i also thought it would have been a buzz kill to read sub titles, but it works as the plot is more about the Pablos way of doing things. I mean would u expect a kid from the slums speaking English??? it would be like a cat barking.

Stranger Things: I am not a sci fi liking person but watched this and it was great. But apart from the suspnese this show touches a more nostalgic button, and people who can relate to things like goonies and xfile can appreciate it even more.

I'm currently watching Power - up to series 3 now. Pretty good viewing.

Stranger Things Season 2 about to start in a few days also.

Finished Stranger Things over the weekend. IMO best Netflix series to date.

Brothers!

How is Stranger Things?

My sister recommended I should watch it but wanted to get all of your input as well.

It's amazing, the show is a little bit of a throwback to the 80s with regards to the themes and genre's during that period and it's set in that time as well; one of the best shows I've ever seen and arguably the greatest when it comes to the intertwined genre's of Horror/Supernatural/Drama. It's like E.T meets The Goonies/Poltergeist/X-files and Stephen Kings IT novel which came out in theatres recently

A lot of great stand-up comedy specials on there as well.

Stranger Things 2 verdict guys?

I've not watched it yet.

Man what happened to Netflix. They used to come out with gems after gems but now its just a dry spell
