Is Shoaib Malik still the best batter at the number 4 position for Pakistan?

I mean if the alternative is Ifthikar Ahmed then I'm not sure what Shobby lacks.

They are around the same age in reality and Shobby is probably fitter.

His record in all T20's(leagues)this year is

Average: 40
Strike rate :139

Has he been unfairly dropped and should he make a fairytale comeback for the World T20? Discuss.

The King Malik.

He doesn’t have to play any of these pointless bilaterals and series. Watches everyone preferred over him continuously fail, and is always called in as a last minute resort (SOS) for a big tournament or World Cup.

Legend

Why did Hafeez announce retirement? I recon he would be called back too if he were available

It is 2022, and Shoaib Malik - the man who made his debut in 1999 - is one of the two best middle-order LOI batsman in Pakistan.

Hint: the other one made his debut in 2003, retired from international cricket earlier this year and is currently doing punditry on tv.

Then people cry when I tell them that Pakistan has a massive talent crisis.

Interesting tweet from Shoaib Malik after the final was lost.

Fakhar, Hafeez, Sohaib Maqsood, Shoaib Malik, Iftikhar, Khushdil and Asif.. All these players have played but they have failed at the middle order.

100% correct

Why are the KPK players who are incapable of batting the way they can in PSL and Pakistan cup being promoted so highly in this team?

excuse me, you are now making this a kpk issue?

If you follow domestic cricket, all three playars, ifti, rizwan and khushdil are selected on merit. It has nothing to do with them being from kpk.

Maliks a serial failure when it comes to the crunch What can he do at 40 when hes failed miserably in so many world cups

Keep him away from the team and lets move forward

In UAE he does have some role in the team not in Australia a failure in his prime in world cups at over 40 years of age on bouncy wickets Malik won’t be hitting big sixes to help Pakistan win the World Cup.

I think Shoaib Malik would have started this thread on PP, that's the only way a new thread about Malik could come up as reasonable level of sanity will stop it otherwise.

Pakistani batsmen can learn how to jump from him in Australia.

I'd much rather give Haider Ali all 7 games at 4.
If he comes good, he is the only guy in pakistan who can both score big like a proper batsman and smash like a genuine hitter.

We've messed with his position so far. No. 4 should be his.

The current middle have made hafeez and malik look like brandmans and tendulkars of yesteryears.

Look forward and give Haider Ali chances for a year now like how we have given the rest

The options that we have for middle order in the form of Iftikhar, Asif Ali and Khushdil, I think Malik is going to make a comeback for England series. If it was an issue of one player they could have accomodated with some younger alternate like Haider Ali but there is a lot of room when the whole middle order is struggling

What about Haris Sohail? He has done pretty well in ODIS? His only a lost cause because the chief selector hates him.

Haris Sohail bats at the same tempo as Babar and Rizwan and he is going to be a liability in the field with his lazy attitude and dodgy knees. He has been completely invisible in every PSL season.

I will not be surprised if he has already played his last international game. He has been completely sidelined after opting out of the England tour in 2020 due to COVID.

But he can be considered for ODIs though where the situation is same with middle order

Certainly, he can play at number four in ODI cricket. However, I highly doubt if he is in the picture.

Pakistan to field an experienced Xi down under to lift the Cup Probables
Babar and Rizwan are confirmed as they are match made in heaven
3.Shan
4.Malik
5.Fawad
6.Sarfraz
7.Imad
8.Amir
9.Sajid
10. Tabish
11.Wahab
Team has plenty of experience

Hell no.

We should push Babar back to 4. Sharjeel and Faheem (closest to a pace all-rounder we have) or Amer Yamin (solid lower order hitter and decent 6th bowling option) come in.

Fakhar, Sharjeel, Rizwan, Babar, Nawaz, Asif, Faheem/Amer Yamin, Shadab, Hasnain, Shaheen, Rauf

I think you meant M Irfan at no. 10?

I should add - appears to be a dig at Babar Azam.

That’s wrong , many think like that way

But No I think it’s a dig at Wasim the PPT selector and Ramiz the Chairman .. this was retweeted by Imad and Amir also.

Babar did ask for Malik after the 20-20 WC and he wasn’t given. And he is a very good friend of Malik

Also I feel this Asia cup Babar purposely exposed the weak middle order by benching Haider Ali and also playing poorly

He constantly kept getting out in single digits, finding fielders to give catch and getting lbw etc

Not long ago he was having purple patch in all formats and hailed as all formats batsman

The end is surely close.

Struggling to time the ball, struggling even against medium-pacers like Faheem Ashraf.

187 runs in 8 innings at PSL 8.

Malik will be playing T20WC next year quite sure about it . That is why he is playing national t20 and wahab has always said he should serve Pakistan more. So won’t be surprised if he makes it

I hope imad's retirement hasn't opened the door for him
Thank you for the '00s buddy, thank you for the CT innings vs India but it's time to move on from a 40+ yr old player.

If malik returns it will be the joke of this decade. Seriously pak needs to move on from all these 35 yrs plus guys and get in younger guys even if they fail initially... and malik is probably 40+...

I am a huge Shoaib Malik fan since childhood, and think there is a decent argument to be made that he would be great at the #4 spot.

But please can we move on from him, I'd rather give some youngn a chance even if he doesn't do as well as Malik might have

Shoaib malik is history now. He may be the most prolific scorer in t20s but his time is long gone now.

This takes me back to Azharuddin days when he was a vital no.4 in Indian team. India had Yuvraj after that and now we have Iyer and Rahul sharing that position.

Isn't he too old to play intentional cricket?

Why do you need such old players in format like T20? Put younger boys, give them experience and exposure. Play second string teams unless it's a tournament.

What is atrocity in the name of a kit?!

He looks like a tea vendor!!
Looool. This is a kit? Legit thought he was walking around the park in whatever outfit you want to call that.

He is still more fitter than these so called younger boys.

I would have appointed him as the T20 captain for the world cup.

He is 41 now. We should be looking forward instead of going back to the past. Give chance to young players who are doing much better then him.

Very worrying that likes of shafiq malik Shehzads are top performers in domestic. If there’s no decent youngster coming through may as well put padlocks on dressing rooms & call it quits, you just need to see paks pace attack v aus next month to see where things are heading !!

Not sure what will.Pakistan achieve by playing a 40+ year Malik in T20, he ain't any world beater but pathetic PCB just playing into hands of lobby
Where will youngsters go If Uncle Malik makes the team

I don't think Malik was the best batter for Pakistan at any stage during his entire career.

Is Shoaib Malik still the best batter at the number 4 position for Pakistan?

Yes, if the opposition is made up of spinners or pacers who don't bowl higher than 128 kph.

He’s been done for 10 years and then you have Wahab the incompetent selector wanting to bring a 45 years old back to the team. The selector is younger than malik tells you everything

Difference between Malik and Ifti and Hafeez is against pace. Hafeez for example could hit against pace when he was older to a degree. Malik can't and hasn't been able to for years, he can't. No way he could bat 3 at international level. Ifti kind of the same, he can hit a bit against pace still.

If you really want to include Malik at 5 or 6 that is fine, there's not much alternative. But he isn't the future, and he's probably going to only cash in on flat pitches and spin attacks

No please no, Pakistan cricket needs to move on and so is Shoaib Malik, Rizwan and Babar are definitely more worthy than Malik for this spot

You should watch his century against India in the 2009 Champions Trophy.
So according to you one innings made him the best batsman in the lineup? He was never the best at any stage of his career. Just good against spinners when he hits them dancing down the track. And he was always surrounded by far better batsmans in his entire career.

He was never Pakistan best batter in any position, He can only play well against spin and very slow tracks where he can handle pace for a while. Can at best be in the squad and used strategically against teams who are going to serve up too many spin bowlers like Afghanistan and SL.
