As the thread says is there a case for two emerging players in PSL? As young bowlers are being given oppurtunities due to this rule but bats

As Khan12 has also given a list of young batsmen who havent been given enough oppurtunities and then they were dropped in another thread.

So this is the only solution I could think of.

Will it be too much interference within team combinations or will it still allow franchises to be happily form combinations?

Personally for me seeing PZ with Haider Ali (An emerging batsman) and Aamir Khan (An emerging bowler) was an ideal combination to give oppurtunities to youngsters of both disciplines.

Or maybe we can have one emerging player who is U23 and one who is U26?

What to do you guys think, will it be good or will it fall under too much restrictions?

Should modify the rule such that every team needs to have 2 emerging player with one being a batsman and the other as bowler. If you play an alrounder then the other could be either batsman or bowler.

You can't force the franchises' hands.

Even if that rule came into play, Misbah would select a young batsman and bat him at number 7.

Maybe if we had great emerging batting talents, but that's not the case. Watching Haider Ali-the future superstar-struggle reinforced our lack of batting talent. If we start forcing young batsmen to play who are not ready the quality of cricket in this premier tournament will go down, and so will the enjoyment factor.

Yes definitely a good suggestion.

we should have rule for the bowlers as well.
I am tired of seeing Irfan, Rahat and other bowlers who has passed their prime and played for Pakistan already.

if we keep giving these players chances then PSL will not give us new talent. We do not give youngster in international cricket, this is the best place to give youngster to prove themselves.

Great batsmen at young age are prodigies which is a rarity in cricket. We do have some decent in Omair Yousuf, Abdullah Shafiq, Zeeshan Malik, Imran Butt, Imran Rafiq etc. Saif and Rizwan are selected by IU. Haider Ali is the only one who is getting a decent oppurtunity though still not in his position but still atleast in top 3.

2 young players shouldnt be effecting the quality of the tournament. Even if we talk about U26 emerging players (Another suggestion in OP) who havent played atleast 5 matches for Pak we dont see much such players outside the one forced emerging category player.

Agreed 2 players have to play for emerging category 1 bowler and 1 batesman

One young batsman in top 3 or 4 can be really good as we have seen with the development of Haider Ali. Guys like Abdullah Shafique, Zeeshan Malik, Omair Yousuf, Saif Badar(Who is with IU) etc should be given those oppurtunities in my opinion.

I am not sure if there will be a big issue if PCB asks for atleast one upcoming under 25 batsman in top 4.

The PSL will develop players that will be good at develop players that will be good at T20, not Tests or ODIs.

Most of the names in this thread are of players that we want to play Test matches - so how would this help?

I think young batsmen can be developed for all 3 formats if developed properly. Babar Azam is one example and Haider Ali is also showing how well he can adapt to T20 format. Nobody thought Haider can hit such shots at will.

Further young batsmen can only face this much pressure by playing against large crowds which happens only in PSL and mental strength development is cruicial part of the game. Also they can learn the prep and training methods of overseas top players like Hale, Roy, Watson etc.

So my point is while we want our young top talent to be developed for Tests and ODIs, playing in PSL isnt just about developing their skills for T20s rather their exposure and pressure handling skills which will be useful in all formats. They can develop their 4 day game by playimg in QAE and one day game by playing in national one day cup. 10 or so T20 matches of PSL arent going to stop their growth and T20 is a reality of modern cricket.

Also if you see all the top players around like Kohli, Warner, Smith, Stokes etc they are top players across the formats and they know how to adapt accordingly.

nouman to add even if we see young Indian batting talent like Shaw, Gill, Pant etc they play in IPL as well and India is supposed to be good at developing young batsmen and if it really hindered the growth than they wouldnt have allowed their young batsmen to play IPL.

Given the quality of batsmen on show, giving opportunities to young batsmen likely won't make much difference to the result.

That will only make the standard of the league worse seeing how bad our young batsmen are. And most importantly it won’t help because it won’t address the core issue
