Islamabad United (209/8) beat Multan Sultans (205/5) by 2 wickets in a last over thriller

Amazing captaincy by Rizzy.

1- Anwar Ali is bad at the death so bowler 3 in the PP.

2 - Persisted w/ Usama even after Mir went for runs. Got Munro and Azam subsequently

3- Used Ihsanullah well in one over spells

You can hate on his batting, but the captaincy is unchallenged.

Even batting wise I'm not sure what all the criticism is about . Except maybe Imad Wasim and Azam Khan, no other Pakistan batter has been more consistently impactful than Rizwan in this PSL.

He is a momentum sucker in the PP, but he usually hangs around long enough to make it count. Him and Babar are the problem

Two more in this over Waseem

Take revenge brother!!!

Come on Waseem take revenge for how they smashed you today!!

Multan dont have good bowlers apart from mir or ihsanullah

But they have a legendary batsman and shrewd captain in Rizwan. I mean how brilliantly has he lead Psl side for the last few years. Consistent and ice cool like Dhoni

That should end the allrounder tag for the time being for our boy Wasim Jr

Come on boy hit a six and bring it down to 12 in the last over

wonder if there will be a no ball. We are seeing lots of last over no balls

Scores level!!!!!

Hahahahabaahahaabahahahabaabbah

Multan hahahahaHhHhabhHhH

Faheem has indeed done a Stokes/Kohli.

Said it at the start of the innings, Ilyas is one terrible bowler. Don't know how he and Musa are fast bowlers. Multan's bowling attack is as bad as Karachi's.

Games like this are what builds the connection and fan interest between the fans and the home team.

Your never gonna hear the end of this bottle job from me :)))

“World’s greatest captain”

“MS Dhoni”

“Legendary”

*keeps 3rd man in the circle whilst asking his bowler to bowl wide Yorkers :)))

Shadab Khan | Islamabad captain: The way Faheem played and we know the calibre of him and he is showing it out there. Wasim and Farooqi brought the momentum back in our death overs, at one stage it looked like it will go to 230-240. Our batting is strong but our bowling is better than this to not consistently leak 200 every game. We shuffled the batting order today so that at the end of the tournament players like Faheem, Asif, Mubasir are coming in with form. If you get in on these pitches, it's very difficult to contain.

Mohammad Rizwan | Multan captain: If you look from the start, we are looking at 220 but they bowled well,we did not finish well and credit to Faheem Ashraf for his innings. The pitch is a belter and luck was with them, we did not finish well with our bowling. The difference was the 20 runs we did not get at the end while batting. The last two matches we lost, all those weaknesses were fixed today but we lost due to the finishing.

Faheem Ashraf | Player of the Match: I want to thank the almighty for helping me around. The plan was to take it deep and keep trying to take it till the end. Got to back yourself and go with the required rate every over and Wasim helped a lot.

Azhar Mehmood | Head Coach, Islamabad United: Absolutely brilliant from Faheem Ashraf, he showed his class and character. He's the best all-rounder in Pakistan. The way he finished the game was unreal, really proud of him. This is good for us, everyone is chipping in. We're not just relying on Azam Khan and Asif Ali. That's a good sign for our team. There's competition for slots and nobody can get complacent. We bowled really well in the last four overs, they executed their plans and controlled their nerves. A win like this gives us belief, Multan won the last few games against us. They're a quality side and winning against them gives us confidence. We will enjoy this victory and hopefully these guys keep doing well.

Rizzys bad captaincy and also multan shud have scored more but rizzy and shaan opening was awfull

Faheem Ashraf was once again the finisher for Islamabad United as his quick-fire half-century helped the home side to a nail-biting two-wicket win over Multan Sultans. Faheem struck three boundaries and a maximum in the final over of the match as Islamabad United became the first team in HBL Pakistan Super League to score 18 off the last over to win a match.

Islamabad United’s chase of the 206-run target was beset by early blows as Alex Hales and Rahmanullah Gurbaz were both undone by Anwar Ali’s slower deliveries. Colin Munro then rebuilt the innings with skipper Shadab Khan as the two hammered 59 runs in 30 balls. Munro was dismissed for his 21-ball 40 studded with four fours and three sixes when he misread a quicker one from Usama Mir that hit the top of middle and off stump.

Azam Khan’s dismissal for just three runs did not deter Shadab, who continued to attack from the other end as he accumulated 44 off 25 with the help of three fours and as many sixes. Shadab’s wicket triggered a mini-collapse for Islamabad United as Asif Ali and Mubasir Khan soon followed him back to the pavilion.

With the hosts requiring 46 off the final three overs, Faheem and Mohammad Wasim Jnr stitched an explosive partnership of 28 runs in 12 deliveries. A lucky bottom edge earned Faheem a boundary on the first legal ball of the 20th over bowled by Mohammad Ilyas before he played a remarkable reverse-scoop over third man for six. A double on the third ball was followed by two successive boundaries by Faheem to pull off the highest successful chase for Islamabad United.

Earlier, Multan Sultans rode on Tim David’s fireworks to post 205 for the loss of five wickets. David, playing his first match of the season, smoked four consecutive sixes off Rumman Raees in the 16th over and made 60 off 27 balls.

Looking set to perhaps cross the 220-mark at one stage, Multan Sultans could eek out only 32 runs in their last four overs as Wasim (2-48) pulled things back with tight bowling in the final phase.

Shan Masood headlined Multan Sultans’ batting exploits with his 50-ball 75 featuring 12 fours while Mohammad Rizwan slammed three sixes and a solitary boundary in his 18-ball 33 to get his team off to a flier. Shadab applied the brakes in the middle overs of the innings, as he registered the scalps of Rizwan and Rilee Rossouw and gave away 26 runs in his four overs, including a maiden.

Scores in brief:

Multan Sultans 205-5, 20 overs (Shan Masood 75, Tim David 60, Mohammad Rizwan 33; Shadab Khan 2-26, Mohammad Wasim Jnr 2-48

Islamabad United 209-8, 19.5 overs (Faheem Ashraf 51 not out, Shadab Khan 44, Colin Munro 40; Anwar Ali 3-33, Ihsanullah 2-35, Usama Mir 2-38)

Player of the match – Faheem Ashraf (Islamabad United)

That was some game, superb batting from Faheem especially at the death.

When Faheem got 4 & 6 on first 2 deliveries of 20th over, Simon Doull said "there is nothing wrong with bowling, they have to put someone on 3rd man". Not sure if field placement was correct considering the fact that 18 runs were required in last over
