Israeli soldiers shot dead a wheelchair-bound Palestinian protester with no legs on Friday.

Ibrahim Abu Thurayeh, 29, was shot in the head by a sniper during protests along the border east of Gaza City in the north of the Palestinian enclave, the Palestinian health ministry said. Another man was reportedly killed in similar circumstances.

Eight Palestinians have now died and scores hurt as protests over US President Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital enter their second week.

Has there ever been a more cowardly army in history?

RIP to the brave hero who lost his legs but continued the resistance against tyranny.

R.I.P. , heard he lost his legs due to the airstrikes of invaders. Apartheid Israel won’t be powerful forever.

RIP disgraceful to kill someone protesting peacefully whether he maybe be specially abled or not.. One can only hope for some sense of humanity and kindness in this world where everyone treats each other as equal but sadly that day would never come..

Israel finds no wrongdoing in paraplegic Palestinian’s death

JERUSALEM (AP) — An investigation by the Israeli military into the death of a paraplegic Palestinian man cleared Israeli troops of wrongdoing on Monday, saying it found “no moral or professional failures” in the incident.

Palestinian health officials say Ibrahim Abu Thraya, 29, was shot in the head while demonstrating last week along Gaza’s border with Israel, an area that has experienced repeated unrest since President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital this month.

Abu Thraya’s death has become a rallying cry among Palestinians against Trump’s move, which upended decades of U.S. foreign policy and countered an international consensus that the fate of Jerusalem should be determined in negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

The military said Friday’s protest was “extremely violent,” with protesters hurling stones, burning tires and explosive devices at troops. In its findings Monday, it said no live fire was aimed at Abu Thraya and it was impossible to determine the cause of death. The military said it has repeatedly requested details about Abu Thraya’s injuries and will examine them if they are received. The military did not disclose from whom it had requested details.

Abu Thraya, who had previously worked as a fisherman, lost his legs in an Israeli airstrike during a 2008 war between Israel and Hamas. According to relatives, he was assisting in the evacuation of people after an earlier airstrike when he was struck. He had since used a wheelchair.

Itedal Abu Thraya, Ibrahim’s mother, questioned the military’s self-investigation and said her son posed no threat.

“He was only holding a flag, not an explosive belt or a bomb,” she said. “I do not trust them or their investigations.”

Israeli military investigations have drawn criticism from rights groups and Palestinians who charge that they are not independent or effective, citing a low indictment rate. The military insists the system works.

Jerusalem’s status has been a central issue in the decades-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Trump’s pivot drew widespread criticism from U.S. allies in the Arab and Muslim world, as well as in Europe and beyond. It sparked violent protests across the West Bank, east Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. Gaza militants have stepped up rocket fire on Israel, which has responded with airstrikes.

Earlier Monday, the military said overnight airstrikes targeted a training camp of Gaza’s Hamas rulers in response to new rocket attacks out of the Palestinian territory.

In all, at least eight Palestinians have been killed in the violence since Trump’s announcement.

UN rights chief calls for independent probe into Israeli forces ‘shocking’ shooting of amputee

19 December 2017 – Shocked at the “incomprehensible” killing of a wheelchair-bound amputee protester by Israeli security forces, the top United Nations human rights official has called on the country to open an independent and impartial investigation into the incident.

“International human rights law strictly regulates the use of force in the context of protests and demonstrations. The lethal use of firearms should only be employed as the last resort, when strictly unavoidable, in order to protect life,” Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said on Tuesday.

“However, as far as we can see, there is nothing whatsoever to suggest that Ibrahim Abu Thurayeh [the protester] was posing an imminent threat of death or serious injury when he was killed,” he added, stressing: “Given his severe disability, which must have been clearly visible to those who shot him, his killing is incomprehensible – a truly shocking and wanton act.”

According to the news release, Ibrahim Nayef Ibrahim Abu Thurayeh, a 29-year-old man from Gaza, who reportedly had both legs amputated after an Israeli attack on Gaza in 2008, was among hundreds of Palestinians marching across farmland towards a fence following Friday prayers on 15 December to protest against the United States’ decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

He appears to have been killed by a bullet to the head when he was approximately 20 meters from the fence, it added.

Since President Donald Trump’s 6 December statement concerning the status of Jerusalem, protests have been held throughout the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and in occupied Gaza. The response by the Israeli security forces has resulted in five people being killed, hundreds injured and large-scale arrests of Palestinians, noted OHCHR.

The biggest flashpoint has been in Gaza, where three people have been killed as protesters burned tires, threw stones, sang songs and waved flags along the fence. Israeli security forces have responded with firearms, including live-ammunition, to disperse the protesters.

According to the UN rights office, the use of live ammunition has resulted in over 220 people being injured in Gaza, including 95 on Friday alone, in addition to tens of others who sustained injuries from tear gas or rubber bullets, read the news release.

It also noted reports that suggest a preliminary internal Israeli army investigation has taken place.

“Nevertheless, the High Commissioner called on Israel to immediately open an independent and impartial investigation into this incident, and into all others that have resulted in injury or death, with a view to holding the perpetrators accountable for any crimes committed,” it read.

Mr. Zeid also “unequivocally condemned” all attacks against civilians, including the indiscriminate shelling of Israeli civilian areas by armed Palestinian groups operating out of Gaza.
