Shoaib Malik at a press conference today
"No matter what team you're losing to, the best thing to do is to talk about and come up with different plans, if the plans and execution isn't working out. The best way is to communicate. We're going through some tough times but that happens in cricket and this is not the end of the world. We lost 2 games to India and there are areas we need to improve and we've spoken about it and in the coming game, you'll be able to see some changes, in terms of changing individual plans"
"When you play a match against a big team, there is pressure on you. If anyone says there isn't pressure on me, I think they are lying. If we compare the Indian and Pakistan teams' players, the number of matches the Indian team plays is much more so I think lack of experience played a part for us, rather than lack of skill. It's a building process and needs time, it's not the time to panic and make wholesale changes to the team, so that new players take 30-40 matches to get settled, and we'll lose a lot again during that period which will cause even more panic. This way the rotation policy keeps happening and a team doesn't stand up"
"We should look to the Indian team and their system for how they develop players, as they are one of the best sides in the world. This is the time to give confidence to the players which the management, captain and selection committee has done. The chairman came to the dressing room after the game and said go out there and give it your best shot, it happens in cricket"
"In terms of our batting lineup, there is some stability that we need. These pitches aren't the type where you think of 300-350, but if you don't lose wickets, there comes a time when you can make runs. Lack of experience is a factor as experienced players can assess the conditions but I'm sure these players have a lot of talent and have performed a lot for Pakistan, and these same players will make a comeback inshaAllah"
"We talk about the bowling but we don't discuss the way Dhawan and Rohit are playing and they deserve credit. It's true that we missed a couple of catches but that's a part of the game, when you're in good form then often your catches are dropped. As far as the bowling goes, there's no player in the world who performs everyday. However, there is some work needed for us, compared to the way Bhuvi and Bumrah are bowling. It's not as though if you've played 200 games and someone else has played 5, you can't learn from the latter. You need to keep your mind open"
"My goal is to see whoever is coming to bowl, see what he's going to do and see what my team needs from me. I just try to play according to the situation, when you make things difficult then you start feeling pressure. I don't make things difficult and put extra pressure on myself. When you've played so much cricket, you have confidence which is what's lacking in our team but everyone is backing the players"
"Senior players in the dressing room don't just have a responsibility to perform, their goal is to groom the youngsters also which is a big responsibility. It's just that when you lose, if you don't make too many changes, eventually you'll stand up. As long as you're grooming the right products, that means your cricket is going in the right direction which I think is the case with our cricket. I'm sure our players will come up with better plans and improve"
"If you ask any commentator or any legend, they still say that Pakistan has the best bowling attack. Just losing two matches to a world class team doesn't mean we don't have variety, we have all the combinations. It's just execution that's missing. We have so many youngsters in the team, the more they play, the more they learn and that's where we need to improve"
"I think Amir, in my opinion, is suffering from lack of confidence. Everyone's backing him, we all know he's a world class bowler and he's done so well for the country and he will do it inshaAllah again. Everyone's talking to him, that phase comes in your life, it's pretty normal, I'm sure he'll find his solutions"
"Any game is crucial, specially since it'll be a knockout. It's just that when you've lost to some team and you haven't done well, it brings a lot of negativity in the dressing room. Due to that, we had a couple of meetings to just try to forget what has happened against India and what's coming up, and what can be done for that game. We'll give our best"
"Being a cricketer, I don't believe in strong teams and underdogs. On that particular day, if 2-3 bowlers and batsmen do well in ODIs, you end up winning. We're not thinking about how much we've played here etc, we have the combinations and execution needs to be good. Whoever is in good form needs to perform on a consistent basis to help the team"
"After losing the first game against India, the next one was the time to come back hard and we tried our best, but it happens. Every game is important. One thing that we lack is that if we perform, we sit back and we have that culture in our country and that's something the management is trying to change. Everyday is a new day, you get new opportunities and your goal is to go out there and give it your best shot. We need to improve as individuals, it's not the management or board's responsibility, it's your goal to fulfil what the management asks of you. You can't promise anyone that you'll score a hundred or take a 5fer but the goal is to go out there and give it your best shot and that's what our management is emphasising on"
