If they play, I think there should be a close eye on Sami to see whether his wickets vs Aus A bring any momentum

Both Sami and Salman playing....Play in 15 mins.. Live on SuperCricket and also Sky, I think...

South Africa XI won the toss and elected to bat first

is he bowling fast?

We all hope he is,

Should be bowling fast he fresh now 3 month of rest ! For a fast bowler a long rest and well needed rest.

I think they will...considering who the others are....But Salman may give way to Chris Gayle, and Sami may be replaced by Dawson....

The Jacques Kallis Invitational XI team includes world class stars:
Brian Lara, Chris Gayle, Mohammad Sami, Salman Butt, Jonty Rhodes, Gary Kirsten, AB De Villiers, Mfuneko Ngam, Lance Klusener, Neil Johnson, Alan Donald and Alan Dawson.

Sami

3-0-6-1 (no wides and no no balls!)

Good figures again. Keep it up Sami!

6.3 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, driven back once more and runs this
one up to mid on, Sami bowling well here

6.5 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, down the track looking to hoik,
Sami unphased as he is getting good rhythm here

6.6 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, back and worked to square leg

-----------------
maiden over from Mohammed Sami.

Figures now 4-1-6-1!!!!!

Superb figures! Sami has played well in his last few appearances dating back to Bangalore. Inshallah this is a sign of things to come. If Mohammed Sami finally starts to live up to his potential, this Pakistan team can be VERY strong indeed. Keep it up Mo!

first 'expensive' over from Sami went for 6 runs. Figures now...

5-1-12-1 (still very impressive figures).

SA XI are 44 for 1 from 9.2 overs

It is a 50 over match, so I don't think we should be surprised that Sami is bowling well, one day matches are bread and butter for Dead Cat.

6.1 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, squares him up as he defended away
on the off side
6.2 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, back and driving up to the bowler
himself
6.3 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, driven back once more and runs this
one up to mid on, Sami bowling well here
6.4 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, looks to drive but Sami is up to it
pushing it fuller

6.5 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, down the track looking to hoik,
Sami unphased as he is getting good rhythm here
6.6 Mohammad Sami to Smith, no run, back and worked to square leg

He's starting to think about his bowling aswell.

yes i agree,i think he needs to bowl a more fuller length and thats where he is more dangerous

Goes for 10 in 6th over, still impressive figures but he should show some consistency.
But it's good that he is getting his rhythem back.

Well seeing how pathetic other bowlers have been looks like Sami's bowling was very good on what looks to be a very slow wicket.

exactly Nauman.

This Ngam guy has been slaughtered. Zulu is being slaughtered as well.

Sami is the only one there who can hold his head up and say he has bowled well in conditions which are not favourable.

Early Spring in the Cape, after a particulary wet winter....reckon it's slow.

Smithie showing how much he likes Zulu ;-)

AD into the attack in place of Sami....

14.3 Donald to Hall, FOUR, chinese cut, Donald cannot believe it

Whats a Chinese cut???

same as a french cut..

A Chinese cut is an inside edged shot which wasn't entirely intended by the batsman, which means there was a bit of luck involved.

16.4 Donald to Hall, OUT: plays a little away from his body and then
plays on, Donald brings out the Airplane to celebrate

105/2 in the 17th

and don't forget....it always "narrowly" misses the stumps...;-)

18.4 Donald to Smith, OUT: inside edge, very fine, wonderful catch
behind the stumps for de Villiers

118/3 in the 19th

French cuts, chinese cuts....Hmmmm, time to go home. Go to prepare supper.

At least I can watch from the kitchen though.

Hope Salman bats well...

later days....

UPDATE- South Africa XI : 213-6 (44 OVERS)

Jonty Rhodes also bowled: 8 overs 28 Runs :O

sami picks up his 2nd wicket. Ashwell Pronce goes for a well made 54.

SA- 258ao

Ngam completes his hat-trick. Two wickets of his last two balls in his 8th over, then a wicket on his first ball of the 9th over. Sami bowled very well.

i think it's the first time Salman Butt is playing in SA..or has he played with the Pakistan A team?

He did play a season of club cricket there I remember and later on he went to South Africa with Pakistan Academy side once.

Salman 10 from 34 balls - a bit of a struggle so far.

what a moment for Salman, batting with the great man Lara. Watch and learn Salman, these chances dont come every day.

Butt seems to be embaressing himself out there has no clue what so ever makes me wonder what will he do in front of Harmisson and co.

The balls is always darting about under lights in SA.

Agree and that is why day nighters should be banned from South Africa because in South Africa its you win the toss and you win the match.

i hope he does do good... well atleast his strike rate is going up a bit now

atleast.. his now scored 30 of 64...

Lara has had a word with Butt during the drinks session and now he is going for his shots. Invaluable experience being passed down from one of the greats.

what channel r u watchin on?

Pathan...the great cricinfo commentary ;-).

I can see that Butt started going for shots after a drinks session...so one can only assume that Lara had a word or two.

but u also madea comment about the flood lights in SA. what was that about?:13:

I remember Pakistan had to play under lights twice in SA during the 2002/2003 season. The first ODI was against SA and even though the team had done well to restrict SA to a below par innings...the batting could not cope with the ball movement. Why the lights cause cause the ball to move extravagantly, ask our local expert Prof MiggyLaal.

On second thoughts, the batting must be quite difficult. Even lara is going quite slowly, atleast salman has shown some application and hasnt thrown it away.

breaking NEWS: salman batting with flu...i think that must be the reason he is batting slow...gotta give him props for being out there...
