Jose Mourinho has left his position as head coach of Tottenham.

Mourinho had been in charge at Spurs since November 2019, replacing Mauricio Pochettino, signing a deal until the end of the 2023 season.

In his first campaign, Mourinho took Tottenham from 14th in the Premier League to finish sixth - securing Europa League qualification - but were knocked out of the Champions League at the last-16 stage by RB Leipzig.

Spurs are currently seventh in the table, five points off the Champions League places.

The original news that broke out was that he has been sacked. Why would he randomly leave his job? No one will ever hire him again if that’s the case

Apparently he refused to take the team on the training ground in protest against the Super League

Jose Mourinho has been sacked by Tottenham after just 17 months in charge.

The Portuguese replaced Mauricio Pochettino as Spurs manager in November 2019 and guided the club to sixth in the Premier League last season.

They are currently seventh, having picked up two points from their past three league games, and were knocked out of the Europa League in March.

Spurs face Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final on 25 April.

On Sunday, Tottenham were one of six Premier League clubs to announce they were joining a new European Super League, but it is not related to Mourinho's sacking.

Mourinho's coaching staff of Joao Sacramento, Nuno Santos, Carlos Lalin and Giovanni Cerra have also been sacked.

"Jose and his coaching staff have been with us through some of our most challenging times as a club," said Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy. "Jose is a true professional who showed enormous resilience during the pandemic.

"On a personal level I have enjoyed working with him and regret that things have not worked out as we both had envisaged.

"He will always be welcome here and we should like to thank him and his coaching staff for their contribution."

This season, Mourinho -who previously managed Manchester United, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Porto - suffered 10 league defeats in a single campaign for the first time in his managerial career.

No Premier League side has lost more points from winning positions this season than Spurs, who have dropped 20.

Mourinho's last game in charge was a 2-2 league draw at Everton on Friday.

Former Spurs midfielder Ryan Mason, who has been working with the club's academy, will take first-team training on Monday.

Spurs had enjoyed a promising start to the current season, including a 6-1 win against Mourinho's former club Manchester United at Old Trafford.

A 2-0 home win over north London rivals Arsenal in early December saw them go top of the Premier League, as Mourinho - a three-time Premier League and two-time Champions League winner - became only the second Spurs manager in history to win his first two north London derbies.

They weren't top for long, dropping back to second later that month with defeat by Liverpool.

Since then, Spurs have won seven of 19 league games, losing eight of them.

In February, they were knocked out of the FA Cup in a 5-4 quarter-final defeat by Everton, marking the first time a Mourinho side had conceded five goals since 2010.

They were beaten 2-1 at Arsenal on 14 March and four days later were eliminated from the Europa League, losing 3-2 on aggregate to Dinamo Zagreb having won the first leg 2-0.

Two weeks ago, Mourinho - who has earned a reputation as a master tactician and defensive-minded coach and is a former Fifa world coach of the year - refused to accept the blame for Spurs' dropped points.

"Same coach, different players," he said when it was pointed out to him how good his teams usually are at defending leads.

I doubt this was the case, but we will see if anything further comes out. He was shown the door it seems ^

Hearing Mourinho was sacked due to performances and nothing to do with the Super League or refusing to take players out on to the training field.

Doesn't make sense for him to leave and forgo his massive redundancy package.

Spurs should never have got rid of Poch. He was taking them places and they were heading in the right direction.

Instead they got rid of a good manager and replaced him with a manager who has drained the life out of some of the best players at the club and played a brand of football that is drab.

He was having a terrible season when he was sacked

I wouldnt be suprised if he did, he is a dramabaz and wouldve used this opportunity to get the sack.

He did the same at MU, and was jut looking for opportunities to get sacked.

All managers go through rough periods and he would have come out of that a better manager. They should have given him more time.

Very much this!!

Spurs taken to the final of a champions league?! Consistently competing with the best teams in the PL and they fire him afyer 1 lean run...... and for Mourinho.....same old spurs!

Even spurs fans a acknowledge they were devoid of ideas. Spurs season literally hinged on the first Liverpool game and were beaten at the death. The players are a bit weak and he's right. Spurs need major overhaul.

His contract was "terminated" by Chelsea which is a polite way of sacking someone. Then he was properly sacked by Real Madrid, Man Utd and now Spurs. Sure he is "the special one" at getting sacked:yk2 Was never that great to begin with. A very negative tactician who plays to avoid defeat then to win matches.

As an Arsenal fan I'm extremely disappointed they sacked Mourinho.

They may even win the Carabao cup now which will be just Awful.

I'm sure Jose will be laughing all the way to the bank though.

Another nice pay-off for him and he'll end up in another job very soon based on his former glories.

The rumor from the club is that Harry Kane has asked to leave in the summer and that was the final nail in the coffin for Jose

Jose Mourinho says he will "wait to be back in football" following his sacking as Tottenham manager in April.

The Portuguese, 58, was dismissed after 17 months in charge, following a poor second half of the season in which Spurs slipped from top of the Premier League to seventh.

Mourinho will work as a pundit during Euro 2020 this summer.

"I have no plans," he said. "I am going on with my normal life. I feel fresh. I feel calm. I am on holiday."

He told the Times Magazine: "I have more time to be doing my homework and analysis.

"I'll wait to be back in football. Not just for the right club, but for the right culture. Maybe next season is premature, we will see."

This season, Mourinho, who has also managed Chelsea, Manchester United, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Porto - suffered 10 league defeats in a single campaign for the first time in his managerial career.

Jose Mourinho appointed Roma head coach for next season

Jose Mourinho has been appointed Roma head coach on a three-year deal set to begin at the start of next season.

Mourinho was sacked by Tottenham in April after just 17 months in charge of the Premier League. The announcement of his appointment by Roma came just hours after the club confirmed that current boss Paulo Fonseca would depart at the end of the current campaign.

It will be the Portuguese manager's second spell in Serie A, after he spent two seasons with Inter Milan before leaving to join Real Madrid in 2010.

"After meetings with the ownership and Tiago Pinto, I immediately understood the full extent of their ambitions for AS Roma," Mourinho told the club's website.

"It is the same ambition and drive that has always motivated me and together we want to build a winning project over the upcoming years.

"The incredible passion of the Roma fans convinced me to accept the job and I cannot wait to start next season."

Mourinho won consecutive Serie A titles with Inter, completing a treble - that included a Champions League triumph - in his final season with the club.

"When Jose became available, we immediately jumped at the chance to speak with one of the greatest managers of all time," Roma general manager Tiago Pinto said.

"We were blown away by Jose's desire to win and his passion for the game: no matter how many trophies he has won, his primary focus is always on the next one. He possesses the knowledge, experience and leadership to compete at all levels.

"We know that in order to build a successful sporting project it takes time, patience and the right people in the right positions. We are supremely confident that Jose will be the perfect coach for our project, for both our immediate and long-term future."

Jose Mourinho hasn’t even stepped foot in Roma’s Stadio Olimpico Stadium yet but ‘The Special One’ is already working his magic.

After being dismissed as Tottenham boss last month, the Portuguese took little time to decide the next step in his career as he was announced as the Serie A giants’ new boss as of next season.

And remarkably, Mourinho is already having a big impact in the Italian capital – despite not even meeting his squad yet!

Roma have won more league games since it was confirmed Mourinho would take over next season (2) than they managed in the eight matches prior to the announcement (1).

Mourinho is already preparing for life at Roma and reports have suggested he wants to bring some of his former players to his new club.

Italian outlet Corriere Dello Sport report that Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Wolves keeper Rui Patricio are his reported targets.

Former Inter and Roma youth manager, Andrea Stramaccioni, admitted fans were excited about the arrival of Mourinho and said his appointment has brought ‘enthusiasm’ to the capital.

Stramaccioni, who spent five seasons with Roma’s youth sector, applauded his former club’s decision to appoint to “The Special One.”, though, he reiterated that there’s still work to be done.

“Mourinho has brought huge enthusiasm, an incredible spark,” said the Italian.

“Along with Capello, this is the most important manager that has arrived in Roma’s history. I think he’s exactly what the environment needed, especially from a motivational level. Rome thrives on enthusiasm.”

Coach Jose Mourinho was sent off as his Roma side finished Saturday's friendly away to Real Betis with only eight men.

The hosts went 3-2 up on 57 minutes but Roma's players argued that Alex Moreno had handled the ball over the line.

Midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini received a second yellow card, while Mourinho was also sent off for protesting.

Gianluca Mancini and Rick Karsdorp both received second cautions in the closing stages as Betis scored twice more to seal a 5-2 win in Seville.

Roma had twice come from behind, with new Uzbek signing Eldor Shomurodov cancelling out Rodri's opener before Mancini made it 2-2 on 50 minutes after a Nabil Fekir strike.

Drama ensued after Moreno's goal, with Cristian Tello and Rober on target as the hosts made their numerical advantage count.

Betis begin their La Liga campaign away to Mallorca next Saturday, 14 August (18:30 BST).

Roma have a friendly on the same day at home to Moroccan side Raja Casablanca before a Europa Conference League play-off tie on 19 August, and their Serie A season starts at Fiorentina on 22 August (19:45 BST).

Stormzy and Jose Mourinho is the link-up we never knew we needed.

The London rapper dropped a video for his new track 'Mel Made Me Do It' on YouTube on Thursday and Portuguese manager Mourinho makes a special appearance.

The ex-Manchester United and Chelsea boss appears with Stormzy and his crew in a cameo during the 10-minute video, while the artist delivers the line: "They love to talk about the old days, the man are old like 'Annie, are you OK?', I prefer not to speak like I'm Jose."

Audio follows of one of Mourinho's most famous quotes: "I prefer really not to speak. If I speak, I am in big trouble."
