Kane Williamson vs Azhar Ali in Tests?

Azhar ali at the moment... Brilliant series against aussies has put him alongside the top 5 test batsmen of the world without a doubt but he is a limited odi player...

You know Kane's doing poorly when he's getting compared to Azhar Ali.

No offense, IMO Azhar is a limited batsmen.

On recent performances, you'd have Azhar ahead.

You could even debate him over Root too.

Recent like last 15 matches or last 20 matches?

Last 20 matches:

Azhar 2000 runs at avg of 57

Kane: 2000 runs at avg of 67

Unless you mean last 4-5 months only.

Potential wise; Kane.
But Azhar Ali is ahead of him at the moment. Azhar is headed towards ATG status if he keeps playing the same way for the next 6 years.

Azhar started as a No. 9/10 batsman who would primarily bowl leg spin for his domestic side, right now he's one of the best test openers going around who is equally good against Spin and Pace. With that being said, I however think that in terms of ability and ceiling Kane smashes Azhar day in day out; but if you consider application, hard work, determination and grit then Azhar wipes the floor with most Test batsmen today.

Kane is a much better batsman and if one considers all formats, it is not even a debate then.

Kane Williamson is better..

Azhar is a very good test cricketer too..

Williamson has more potential and will more than likely finish as the better player, but on current form Azhar is the better player for me.

Azhar Ali has passed the two big overseas tests, England and Australia. So he just needs to cash in against WI and have an excellent home tour to really back his stats up.

The NZ media continue to overrate Kane and put him on a pedestal because of a 2 year golden period where he converted everything. Most who have being watching realize he isn't that great and has plenty of holes in his technique and doesn't possess the same talent or mental strength as Kohli, Smith or Root. He's well behind the best in the world.

Taylor and Guptill will certainly finish ahead of him as NZ's best ever ODI batsmen while I'd take Crowe and Taylor ahead of him in Tests.

IMO, when it's all said and done.

Tests
Crowe
Taylor
Kane (on sheer numbers)

ODI's
Guptill
Taylor (he's probably our best atm)
McCullum

Williamson has scored runs against Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

He failed against SA and India away and against Pakistan and Australia at home.

I don't think he has made a century against a top side since we played on the roads in Australia.

I am not sure why this comparison? - KW is not an opener, Azhar has opened on toughest tours for us and passed with flying colors, better than any Pakistani in the past.

In test you cannot compare opener with middle order, it's a whole different ball game🙄🙄🙄

Azhar is a better opener than "ATG" Cook right now and would easily slot into any test XI but he's not better than Williamson, who is potentially an ATG test batsman. I rate Kane ahead of Root, Smith and Kohli in test cricket.
