Assalamu alaikum. My two beloved sons and I, are yearning to go back asap in shaa Allah. We've lived in Egypt since 2009, hence we dread returning ill-prepared. Prior to relocating to Egypt, we resided in DHA, so that is familiar territory. The concern being, that does such an area exist in Karachi where there is little or no load shedding or water problem? We don't have our nose up in the air, so any area will do. Kindly share your thoughts and pray to Allah that He expedites this move in shaa Allah. Jazak'Allahu khayr in advance!

Sorry, not in Pakistan but from Karachi.

I'm sure such pockets exists in DHA where you may face reduced loadshedding. You can make up the difference by using a generator.

Water shortage is common across Karachi. Unless you're severely budget constrained, you can purchase water on the open market (water tankers, etc.).

Assalamu alaikum. I truly appreciate your take on our plight. So, if I understand correctly, you mean that such areas do exist in DHA itself where there is reduced load shedding. A generator won't be an option because we are of humble means alhamdulillah and don't have the luxury of spending beyond our means. The real issue being, that my sons and I have opted for an online BA degree (halfway through the 1st semester alhamdulillah) and can't afford being offline due to the nature of our studies.

Well then, could anyone kindly direct us to the areas in DHA or elsewhere, where there is minimal or no load shedding in shaa Allah?

as someone who hasnt lived in pk for almost 2 decades, I should not be offering advice. but doesnt bahria town claim no loadshedding. is there 1 in khi ?

WaliukmSallam.

First of all wish you a very best luck for you and your kids, i hope you people will definitely like Pakistan and Karachi.

Coming towards your concern, the best place to live in karachi is Malir Cantt (I am not sure if you can buy a house there or not as it is Army area) No load shedding, safest and greenest place.

2nd is DHA.

Gulshan-e-Iqbal is also a very fine place to live.

Assalamu alaikum. I have no clue...some kind soul below commented that it is under construction. JazakAllahu khayr so much for responding.

Oh, perhaps you didn't notice but I've lived in Khi for decades and was actually born and bred there. We're very familiar with DHA and Clifton..., my two sons were studying at BVA in phase 8...yet...having now been away for a good 8 years or so, what we don't know is where in DHA is there no load shedding and water woes. Buying a house lol ...is not an option..renting one is more like it. Who knows what tomorrow brings in shaa Allah. Please could you all elaborate on what Malir Cant that you speak so highly of is like...I love that it is green...is it safe and clean and do families reside there?

So Malir Cantt is a military cantonment which is on the "outskirts" of Karachi. It is a very clean, safe, and a quiet area to live in but it is cut-off from the rest of the city. It is an expensive area but not as expensive as DHA or Clifton I imagine.

You may want to look up properties on Zameen.com to get an idea of the price range.

I’ve lived here in Karachi all my life. You may want to look at KDA Scheme 1,near M.Ali Society (no water problems,no loadshedding unless there is a fault).DHA is also good except for the water shortage problems.Phase 8 has a lot of plots of land.KDA Officers society near National Stadium is also good.AOHS residential,Falcon Society(near TCS PAF chapter) are other good areas but I’m not sure about the availability of houses.

Malir Cantt is also a very good, peaceful place to live but it’s hard to get a house inside AFAIK.It’s also not easy for non-residents to get inside.

If you don’t mind living a bit far from the main city you can go to Bahria Town. It’s a 2 hour+ drive from my place in PECHS but the area itself is really good and is like a little city itself. It has a lot of restaurants(with more to open) and good roads(much better than the rest of Karachi),hospital, school, cinema, supermarket etc. It’s also going to have a theme park, golf course, mall and cricket stadium.Houses are good and at this point affordable. You can also get an apartment if you want.Great place to live but like I said it’s too far from the main city if you have a job/in case of emergencies etc.

1. There is no loadshedding in DHA since a long time. Even if there is it is an irregular affair of once in two weeks or something.

2. Water is an issue, generally you would get piped water to your house in DHA but the tanker mafia has had their say and the piped water is in less quantity and hence alot of houses have to buy a tanker once a week or so.

3. DHA is slightly more expensive than other parts of the city. If you have limited budget you can get comparable house with similar facilities (electricity/water) in Clifton or Bath Island.

4. For someone moving from abroad I wouldn't recommend moving to inner parts of the city since the traffic will be too much to handle.

5. There is wonderful housing with all facilities in the Malir area but that is too far from the rest of the city.

Aah ok so you can't buy a house. Then i would suggest don't go to DHA, it's true that DHA don't have load shedding issues but it has water issues. You will need to buy water tankers every month/week depends upon your usage, and Tanker Mafia in Karachi is horrible.

As some one told that Residential Area in Bahria Town is completed and buying selling has been started but i think the prices will be too high ( Not sue right now ).

Malir Cantt is Military area, safest, cleanest, beautifull minimal air and noise pollution there. Problem is it is very hard for Non Military people to reside there. Yes, if you have contacts in Pak Army then may be it is possible :)

Assalamu alaikum, several folk have mentioned that it's not easy to get an apartment there, if so then how does one go about it?

Assalamu alaikum. That sure is a wealth of info and jazak'Allahu khayr for the effort. Another thing worth pointing out may be that we won't have a car for some time due to lack of funds alhamdulillah, so no matter where we reside, DHA or Malir Cant area, will everything like supermarkets, groceries, veggies, internet etc and above all a masjid be easily accessible or rather walking distance?

Assalamu alaikum, nope no contacts come to mind...if Malir Cant and not DHA is best suited to us, Allah will surely help expedite it. We plan on returning by March or so, ...that should be ample time to get results in shaa Allah. Jazak'Allah khayr for your input, it really helps bring clarity.

In Delhi people use inverters rather than generators. A medium sized interter (like the approximately 2 feet x 1 feet x 1 feet I have in my Delhi home) is able to provide power for a couple of hours or even more to a ceiling fan and an internet modem. An inverter is much more affordable than a generator.

WaliukumSallam. Bahria, Malir Cant, DHA e.t.c these are sort of areas where everything is available at walking distance. Masjids, markets e.t.c e.t.c that won't be an issue.

If you have budget issues then i think you will find following areas suitable according to your requirements

KDA Scheme 1/ Muhammad Ali Society (MACHS) : (MACHS)
Located near the City Center, MACHS is another best place to live in the city of Karachi. The presence of entertainment facilities like the Arena, Aga Khan University hospital, Expo Center, National Stadium, Large Parks & Lakes make this area perfect to live in. Its proximity to the Airport and Sharah-e-Faisal are another plus points.

PECHS (Society Area):
PECHS is one of the best planned localities of Karachi. It gives the touch of being in the city of Islamabad with roads as wide as in Islamabad, its greenery and area architecture. Its close proximity to Central Karachi, Presence of the largest shopping district; the Tariq road; Parks such as Hill Park and the Jheel Park makes this area perfect to live in.

Bahadurabad:
Bahadurabad is famous around the city for its shops such as Imtiaz, Naheed etc. People from all across the city as well as from DHA and Clifton especially come to this area to buy their daily groceries. Another thing that makes this locality very famous is the presence of the United King Bakery and restaurants such as Tooso etc. Majority of inhabitants in the area are from Delhi who had migrated from India during 1960s for better economic opportunities in Karachi.

Lalazar:
The best part about lalazar is that this locality is built next to the II Chundrigar road, the busiest business street of Karachi and when you come to this area you feel like that you are miles away from the hustle bustle of Karachi while being in the Downtown area. Another best part is the presence of the China Creek next to it, this make this place ideal for people who wants to have bungalows with boating hooks facing the creek. Beach Luxury Hotel and Karachi Yacht Club are also present in the area

KDA Scheme 33:
Scheme 33 is the best place to be in Karachi as it is located between Super Highway and University Road. Almost all important facilities including Schools and Hospitals are present in the area. Karachi University is just next to it.

If you will be short on money and will be renting and want to be near amenities on walking distance then forget about Malir Cantt and DHA and Bahria Town. You may have to go to Gulshan Iqbal or North Nazimabad.

Peace, yes I am aware of the inverter, however we've been informed that if we do our homework and research properly, finding areas that have water and electricity 24/7 in shaa Allah should be relatively easy. I do appreciate your feedback though! Thank you.

Assalamu alaikum. Commercial areas of DHA ...or Malir etc will suit us fine in shaa Allah.

Been no regular load shedding where I live in Karachi for years now. Periodically there has been some but very very little. I live in DHA btw. There are also other areas like Clifton, PECHS etc that are very good places to live. If you don't mind apartments then Askari has some good ones
