What's new

Karachi Kings (185/5) hammer Lahore Qalandars (118 all out) by 67 runs in Match 8 of PSL 8

Good bowling Imad.

He has been spot on today (so far) with the bat, ball and captaincy.

Baig and Ghulam epitomise the sorry state of Pakistani batting especially in white ball cricket.

Qalandars are totally dependent on Fakhar to fire. There is no other reliable firepower in their batting line up.

Top class spell

Player of the tournament so far topspin

Shaheen needs his head checked after sending Talat here.

Agreed. I'm not sure if he's ready for Pakistan captaincy just yet.

Shadab and Imad should be the front runners to replace Babar as skipper in white ball cricket.

Aqib javed is a loudmouth for rizbabar batting slow and here is LQ batting with absolutely no intent. Shameless tactics

Rizwan is out performing them both atm

Shaheen is of the same Babar and Rizwan mentality

They all love accumulators

Aamer Yamin is the real 'Amir'

Great spell and took the big wickets today.

Also didn't get injured celebrating.

Good day out for him.

Rizwan is out performing them both atm

Needs to learn how to bat on the offside first to be honest otherwise we'll have to watch him get bounced out by proper bowlers like that song by Imran Khan - Bounce Billo.

Embarrassing batting by LQ. They had more of the dew factor to work with.

Imad and KK have done very well considering the fact that their total was below par for such a good batting wicket.

Imad MOTM.

Beautiful

Captain loudmouth gone for a golden

Focus on your cricket son!

Player of the tournament so far and his team is team of the tournament. Even Imad has limitef.

We can only judge on whats infront of us not on the fantasies/role plays that you and Rana play out with each other.

Much better from KK today.

By and large controlled the match.

Outplayed LQ.

LQ need to relook at their batting line up.

Some bold calls need to be made here.

Imad showed his guts by dropping Sharjeel.

Time for the other captains to stand up.

This is the PSL not a charity league.

Yes as soon as it’s a real cricket match it will be bounce Billo I’m afraid

How is Rizwan player of the tournament? Lets compare their batting stats for a minute.

Rizwan averages 73 with a strike rate of 133 whilst Imad averages 60 at a strike rate of 171. Then add Imad's economical bowling on top of his batting stats.

I appreciate the batting averages have been inflated for both players because of the not outs however Imad's strike rate is significantly higher.

Having said all that I can understand why someone who has a soft spot for Misbah would rate Rizwan more highly because you're accustomed to level of mediocrity.

Shaheen deserves this humiliation after his tweets and interviews

Based on the criteria you guys have set out on won matches.

Imad is currently holding the Sharjeel Khan in 2017 Trophy for best performances in a lost cause.

But hes doing well and I hope continues..as the better that he does the better for Pakistan in the long run.

These are my views.

I don't rate Sharjeel anymore but just like him in 2017, Imad is suffering because his team is rubbish.

But hes doing well and I hope continues..as the better that he does the better for Pakistan in the long run.

Well said and completely agree.

Out of their 10 matches last year KK only won 1, and that win came against LQ, so I should've expected that LQ will fumble their match against KK this year too.

KK leaving out Sharjeel was a smart move from them. Had Sharjeel played he would've gotten out early and put KK under pressure in the powerplay, so good on them for recognizing the problem and eliminating it.

Agreed

Now Pakistan should learn and remove Babar as opener

So this Ghulam guy is the next big thing in Pak cricket!!! I suppose the guy was born 15 years too late for the kind of mentality he has. With the exception of Harris,Haider, Sami & that tall guy in KK(forgot his name) none of the young pak batters seem to understand the modern white ball. They are still stuck in good old 90's. Future of pak batting looks bleak as usual.

Imad Wasim | Player of the Match | Karachi captain: We were on the mark from the start. We began well with the bat and I thought a score of 160-170 was about par. The wicket was really tricky and we didn't want to lose wickets (about his partnership with Cutting). Just wanted to get to around 170 or so. Bowling was good, everyone did their job. Not easy to bowl under pressure, everyone stuck to their plans and it worked.

Shaheen Afridi | Lahore captain: It was a big match and obviously disappointing to lose. But it's a part and parcel of the game. We'll learn from this defeat and look to come back strong. There were many stages (where Lahore lost the plot), difficult to put a finger on which was the most deciding of them. Yes, there are some positives like Baig who has batted well for us.

Karachi Kings steamrolled Lahore Qalandars to record their biggest win in the HBL Pakistan Super League history – by 67 runs – at the National Bank Cricket Arena on Sunday evening. Chasing an imposing 186, Lahore Qalandars, playing their second match after defeating Multan Sultans in the opener, were all out for 118 in 17.3 overs. This is Karachi Kings’ first win in four matches this edition.

Karachi Kings’ decision to open with overseas openers in Matthew Wade and James Vince paid dividends as the pair posted the side’s highest Powerplay score of this edition – 61 for none. Wade and Vince had set a perfect platform for their side to post a towering total before their 71-run partnership came to a halt because of a run out at the start of the eighth over with Wade falling short in his bid to take the second run. The Australian wicketkeeper-batter made 36 off 24.

A 32-run partnership between Vince and Haider Ali (18 off 16) followed that denied the visiting bowlers further inroads. A flurry of wickets reduced Karachi Kings to 124 for four from 102 for one with Haider, Shoaib Malik (10 off seven) and Vince (46 off 36) walking back to the pavilion.

Lahore Qalandars, however, failed to make the most of this turnaround and Imad Wasim, the Karachi Kings skipper, once again displayed the explosive side of his batsmanship with a splendid 35 not out off 19, studded with two sixes and as many fours. He was duly supported by Ben Cutting, 20 off 19, as the pair added 52 off 35 and lifted the home side to 185 for five.

Lahore Qalandars had a decent beginning to the run chase with Fakhar Zaman and Mirza Tahir Baig racing their side to 40, before the former was bowled by Aamer Yamin at 4.2 overs mark. Muhammad Irfan Khan took a marvellous catch at backward point in the next over off Mohammad Amir to restrict Shai Hope’s stay to just two balls, off which he scored one, as the problems now compounded for the Qalandars.

A 41-run partnership between Tahir and Kamran Ghulam (23 off 22) followed, but the pair failed to keep up with the scoring rate. One after the other, both batters were sent back to the pavilion by Akif Javed in the 13th over and when Kamran, the last of the two, was caught, Lahore Qalandars required 99 off only 44.

That proved to be the turning point of the match and from there on, no Lahore Qalandars batter could put up resistance. Akif finished with four for 28. Aamer and Cutting took two wickets each.

Lahore has a chance to avenge the defeat when the two teams meet in Lahore on 12 March – the last match of the league stage.

Scores in brief:

Karachi Kings 185-5, 20 overs (James Vince 46, Matthew Wade 36, Imad Wasim 35 not out, Ben Cutting 20)

Lahore Qalandars 118 all out, 17.3 overs (Mirza Tahir Baig 45, Kamran Ghulam 23; Akif Javed 4-28, Ben Cutting 2-12, Aamer Yamin 2-18)

Player of the match – Imad Wasim (Karachi Kings)

Would it be fair to say that Karachi have found their best XI?

Karachi kings still need one change. Tayyab tahir in place of haider could do good for them.

They need to remove either Kamran Ghulam or Talat from the xi.

KG was one of their main players last year in the top 3

Read the match thread…any opponent wouldn’t mind allowing him occupy the crease for as long as possible

Same as Shai Hope
