KARACHI: After being denied land for his cricket academy by Sindh Government, the city mayor Waseem Akhtar made the same offer to cricket star Shahid Khan Afridi on Saturday, ARY News reported.

According to ARY News, the city mayor established contact with the former skipper following his televised statement in which he lamented on refusal by the provincial government to grant him land for a cricket academy. Waseem Akhtar on a telephonic conversation made an offer to Afridi.

The cricket star in response to the offer thanked the city mayor by stating that his cooperation has encouraged him to pursue his earnest wish of founding an academy for youngsters.

Waseem Akhtar has reportedly offered Afridi to establish the cricket academy in Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) ground.

Earlier, the former captain while addressing a ceremony held in his honour lamented that if Benazir Bhutto would have been alive, the situation of Sindh particularly Karachi would not be worsened this much.

The sentiments were expressed in wake of refusal by Sindh government to grant him land for his academy.

He had then said that there was enormous talent in the city which required facilitation while deploring the lack of cooperation and support from provincial government.

no one can be sure how much improvement these things can bring to Pakistan international team.
but no well wisher of pak cricket should criticize or talk rubbish about a player honest effort to bring a change to your National team.
least you all Pak people out there can do is keep encouraging the honest & a loyal servant like shahid khan Afridi.
result wont come right away in any field but he should be given all the facilities & provide all support .
im sure if he get all these he will invest more in his academies and stuff because im sure he is still marketable and financially he is the richest cricketer in pakistan & even sponsors will be interested in his ventures.

LAHORE – The Punjab government has offered land to former T20 skipper Shahid Afridi for constructing a cricket academy “anywhere in the province”.

“Shahid Afridi is our national hero,” said Hanif Abbasi, the chairman of Punjab Steering Committee on Sports, adding that the provincial government would fully support the star all-rounder in building a cricket academy.

The Punjab’s offer comes a day after Afridi lambasted the Sindh government for refusing to lend him land to start a cricket academy.

Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Muhammad Bux Khan Mahar on Sunday telephoned the former T20 skipper and assured him to grant land for his cricket academy.

The sports minister asked Afridi to choose a ground and inform the government about it, as Sindh government has decided to make a committee that will look after this plan and finalise the ground.

Also on Sunday, Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar offered Shahid Afridi land for establishing a cricket academy. Akhtar offered Afridi to establish the cricket academy in Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) ground.

Afridi intends to build an academy to train power hitters for the game under the guidance of foreign coaches.

"I would like to thank Hanif Abbasi, Waseem Akhtar and the CM for their support (on my call for land about this academy)"
