Lahore Qalandars look to be on a high after their win against Karachi - not so Peshawar!

Both sides have one win to show for in 2 games so far but need to win this game to bolster their chances.

LQ looking to continue positive momentum

Kamran Akmal, Arshad Iqbal and Hazratullah Zazai have rejoined Peshawar Zalmi’s squad in place of Imam-ul-Haq, Amad Butt and Yasir Khan

Arish hit for a few - soul destroying I guess

Great callout by Sana Mir.
Wahab is hiding himself and gave 4 out of the 6 powerplay overs to newbies and 1 over to Shoaib Malik . .

Why isn't Wahab bowling himself in the powerplay to an in form Fakhar?

Very very strange tactics there . .

Wahab is a death over specialist so won;t bowl himself upfront. He is also a specialist match loser.

Kind of a weird tactic, isn't it? If Fakhar and co take the game away in the first few . . what are you going to do in the death overs? Should have been bowling to Fakhar in the powerplay as a senior bowler rather than having those 2 new kids bowling

Wicket lost at the wrong time. Hafeez might take a little time as well to get going. Kamran Ghulam needs to accelerate now.

Of the two seniors Malik and Hafeez it looks as if Hafeez has burned down first. How can Peshawar Zalmi play Kamran AK. Al in the team, not only he cannot score significant runs he cannot keep well either.

How did Kamran Akmal come back into the team? Thought he was insulted by being pushed down a grade or two...

I just hope PSL will help Kamran Ghulam get noticed and maybe pip him forward into test eleven considering how selection works in Pak especially with cross formats.

Having said that, he has found some form today...

Not happy with this dismissal LQ

Just this over it seem. Despite that he just does not look the in form batsman any more,in any inning.
Kamran proving how useless he is with that throw he failed to collect.

Rashid Khan is incredibly underrated as a batter. Very high bat speed. Can effortlessly clear the ropes in any direction.

Rashid Khan bats better than many international top order batsmen.

He should bat at a higher position.

Shaheen almost always manages to pick up a wicket in the first over. Just amazing.

Shaheen Afridi to Hazratullah Zazai, out Bowled!! Cleaned him up third ball. Hazratullah Zazai b Shaheen Afridi 0(3)

2 in 2 for Zaman Khan for Lahore Qalandars in their game against Zalmi

over 2 a ball needed but PZ have plenty of batting firepower left.

Not over this.

This has been an embarrassing innings by Haider. He’s batting like a brainless tape ball slogger. Nothing has improved in the last year or so by him. Very disappointing.

This is the issue with Pakistan Youngsters , they do not work hard enough to improve

Every moment of this game when an opportunity is given. Lahore Qalandars drop it. Maybe Zalmi will punish them now

The decision to send Talat up the order was a blunder. He batted too slowly and left others with too much to do.

Lahore bowling is very strong , if their batters can bat well , they can reach finals here

Going Umar Akmal route. Not using any brain. Gets in such awkward positions all by himself that sometimes he looks stupid or makes a normal delivery look unplayable.

PZ really need to look at their tactics and approach.

They look a very weak team with both bat and ball.

Badly need Saqib and Livingstone to fire when they join the squad.

Shaheen Shah: I'm feeling happy with the team's performance. Credit to Zaman, youngster but he proved himself and trusted his confidence. It's good to see and happy that so many young players are doing well for Pakistan. We have trust in Rashid Khan and the plans he has, hopefully he will deliver in the next games. Fakhar is a match-winner and he's done well whenever given the chance here or for Pakistan. Haris is a fighter and good to see his performances, hopefully he does the same in the future as well.

Wahab Riaz: We let them get away at the end. Chasing 200 we needed a good start but we lost Zazai early and then Kamran bhai and Talat in one over which set us back. Credit to the Lahore bowlers. It's good to see Haider scoring runs and we will try and put in a good performance in the upcoming matches.

Zaman Khan: I'm feeling happy, the wishes and prayers from the coaches and wellwishers has helped. We had a camp for 20 days where we worked on yorkers and slower deliveries. Shaheen bhai and Haris Rauf are stars for Pakistan and it's good to learn from them.

David Wiese: The elusive hat-trick continues to elude me, time's running out but hopefully it comes soon. The boys stuck to it tonight, despite the poor fielding. Every season there's an emerging talent out here, they are not afraid to take the ball in the powerplay and bowl at 90mph. Unbelievable skill really. Lahore as a team are very supportive and have always been.

Win the toss and win the match mantra proved to be wrong in the third successive fixture of the HBL Pakistan Super League 2022 when Lahore Qalandars defeated Peshawar Zalmi by 29 runs in the ninth game of the PCB’s marquee event at the National Stadium on Wednesday.

Fakhar Zaman continued his rich form with the bat to stroke a 38-ball 66 and Rashid Khan struck three sixes in an eight-ball 22 not out to help Qalandars post 199 for four.

Kamran Akmal, playing his first match of the event, played some blistering shots in a 24-ball 41 and Haider Ali struck a 34-ball 49 with three fours and three sixes but Zalmi, despite Qalandars’ sloppy fielding, ran out of gas to finish at 170 for nine.

This was Lahore Qalandars’ second win in three matches that has lifted them to second place behind Multan Sultans (four wins in four matches) with four points. Peshawar Zalmi has remained in fifth position on two points from three matches. Islamabad United and Quetta Gladiators have one win apiece, while Karachi Kings are winless from three matches.

Other performers:

Fakhar followed up his 35-ball 76 and 60-ball 106 to score a 38-ball 66 that included six fours and three sixes. He added 94 runs for the first wicket with Abdullah Shafique (41 off 31 with three fours and two sixes).

The middle-order batters capitalised on a strong start with Kamran Ghulam contributing a 23-ball 30 and Mohammad Hafeez scoring a 19-ball 37 with three fours and six, before Rashid finished the innings with a flourish – slapping three sixes in an eight-ball 22 not out.

In turn, Zalmi’s required run-rate reached 11 after three overs, 15.8 after 15 overs and 21.5 after 18 overs, before they finished at 170 for nine.

Zaman Khan was the star of Qalandars’ bowling when he dismissed Hussain Talat (15), Kamran (41) and Sherfane Rutherford (21) to finish with figures of 4-0-32-3.

In the last over, David Wiese picked up Wahab Riaz and Arish Ali Khan off successive balls and almost had a hat-trick but last-man Salman Irshad reviewed successfully a LBW decision as the Namibian player finished with two for 11.

Shaheen Shah Afridi bagged two wickets for 19 runs.

Quotes:

Player of the match Zaman Khan: “I am happy with my performance that has earned me my first player of the match award. We had a three-week training camp prior to the tournament in which I practiced hard on my bowling. I am glad my hard work is paying off.”

Scores in brief:

Lahore Qalandars 199-4, 20 overs (Fakhar Zaman 66, Abdullah Shafique 41, Mohammad Hafeez 37 not out, Kamran Ghulam 30, Rashid Khan 22 not out; Salman Irshad 2-47)

Peshawar Zalmi 170-9, 20 overs (Haider Ali 49, Kamran Akmal 41, Sherfane Rutherford 21; Zaman Khan 3-32, David Wiese 2-11, Shaheen Shah Afridi 2-19)
