When Dean Jones was removed in a rather underhand way by a few people at Islamabad United, he approached Lahore Qalandars to see if they were interested in him taking over as their Head Coach, they declined the offer.

Soon afterwards Karachi Kings approached him and the rest is history.

I'm guessing things may have been a bit different if Jones was in charge at Qalandars at the moment.

Have zero sympathy for the Qalandars for sticking with Aqib, they deserve every drubbing they get

Aqib is the worst coach.. I feel bad for Shaheen Shah though.. I wished Lahore would have taken few extra TTFs like shoaib Malik ,sohail khan, Kamran Akmal.

They need to get rid of Aqib. Anyone can do a better job than him. Five years of PSL and he hasn't been able to build a team for Lahore. Every year the squad is off-balance.

Another in a long list of stupid decisions. Qalanders have so many resources. I would rather have Dean Jones than Aqib Javed in charge of the development camp they are running. He would do a better job. I bet he has a much better eye for talent than Aqib. Plus he probably won’t try and change everyone’s action

Dean Jones isn't good enough himself, but definitely an upgrade over Aqib.

Aqib definately has solid connections. Absolutely mind boggling how he has managed to annually retain his spot

I doubt Dean Jones could have solved Lahore's problems. At this point someone just needs to hit a reset button and do a compete reboot of the Lahore franchise.

When IU released Dean Jones the first thing I wrote was that LQ should try to get him into their setup as they seem to be struggling the most and Deano is pretty methodical and would have added some method to the madness of Qalandars.

Guy recached out to them himself and LQ retained Aqib Javed after seasons of poor performances. Its just mind boggling.

They deserve to lose then.

It’s fairly on brand for Lahore in general.

God why us Why us always getting some big players and than being at the bottom of the ranking and now the best coach of the PSL was rejected in favor of the worst performing coach of the PSL because I guess they were Yaars

I am 100% honest if they hire you as a coach you will perform better than Aqib cause you are a normal human being with a brain but Aqib seems like a boxing trainer lost on a cricket field

Also says a lot about Misbah and the Islamabad set up.

So first he ousted Mickey to get the national role and then Deano to get the Islamabad role.

Not surprising to see Islamabad performing below expectations this year despite a strong squad on paper.

The biggest problem at LQ is recruitment of players. I don't think Dean Jones would have been able to do much with their current squad.

He would have gone in there and shaken things up. Moved players on, brought in better players and changed the rest of the coaching staff.

Islamabad are second on the table. Don't think that's too bad. Besides the owners were justified in changing the coach after Islamabad unsuccessfully defended their title last season.

So far coaching hasn't made a difference for the Karachi Kings, they make the playoffs every year but don't go on to win. Let's see if Dean Jones can get them the title.

Yes it does say alot. It says Islamabad wanted him over Deano. That's his worth, people respect his cricketing knowledge and Islamabad realized that once they were without him for a season.

Don't count out Islamabad just yet. In the early stages of PSL, Misbah had been experimenting to give both Faheem and Amad a chance, probably to see if they merit a place for WT20. We are obsessed in finding a fast bowling hard hitting all rounder but Misbah is realizing that these guys are not the answer. It's now business time for Islamabad, they'll be playing a much more balanced side. I expect them to make the playoffs and possibly the final

And Lahore wanted Aqib over Deano too. You could use the same argument to say that is Aqib's worth.

Islamabad had one of the strongest squads on paper and proven PSL performers. It's a given they should have qualified for the playoffs given its essentially a 5 team tournament. However their performance so far has been poor.
